How Ken Loach’s Sixteen Films Is Charting a New Course Without Its Iconic ‘I, Daniel Blake’ Director
If there was one puzzle from the 2023 Venice Film Festival, it concerned Caleb Landry Jones and the actor’s curious decision to conduct all his press arrangements for the Luc Besson thriller “Dogman” with a Scottish accent. As was later revealed, the Australian had taken a quick break from shooting U.K. drama “Harvest” on location in Scotland and was staying in character for the duration of his brief Italian detour.
Alongside honing Landry Jones’ vocal abilities, “Harvest,” being directed by Athina Rachel Tsangari (the Greek director’s first English-language film) and based on the book by Jim Crace, also marks the beginning of a new chapter for one of the U.K.’s best-known indie production companies.
Sixteen Films, co-founded by Ken Loach and producer Rebecca O’Brien in 2002, has been behind every film by the beloved and iconoclastic director over the last two decades, including “The Wind That Shakes the Barley,...

Warrior won’t be returning for a fourth season on Max.
However, the existing three seasons of the martial arts crime drama are set to find additional audiences as Netflix has picked up the series’ library in a co-exclusive deal with Max in Warner Bros. Discovery streamer’s markets.
Warrior is expected to debut on Netflix in February 2024. If it does well, Netflix could presumably order a new season of the drama based on an original concept and treatment by Bruce Lee, sources tell Deadline exclusively.
This latest move sets Warrior in its third home in as many years. The series premiered in 2019 on Cinemax where it ran for two seasons before it was announced in early 2020 that the network was moving out of the Originals business. Wbd sibling Max picked up the show for a third season in Spring of 2021 which premiered this summer with the season concluding on...

Studiocanal is collaborating with Sixteen Films’ Rebecca O’Brien and Morena Film’s Juan Gordon to develop a series created by longtime Ken Loach scribe Paul Laverty and to be directed by Spain’s Iciar Bollaín.
The drama series will be the first for both Laverty and Bollaín after writing and directing respectively 19 and nine feature films, including collaborations on Bollaín’s multi-prized “Yuli,” “The Olive Tree” and “Even the Rain,” movies that established her as one of Spain’s top film directors.
Over the last few years, Cannes’ MipTV trade fair, once a strict TV silo, is now ever more MipFilm. Signs of an ever-building crossover between the two sectors look indeed to make up one of the hallmarks of this year’s event.
In multiple different moves, iconic film talent is plunging ever more into series.

The tears were flowing on the Tuesday, November 9 episode of Teen Mom Og as Tyler Baltierra and Catelynn Lowell reunited with their 12-year-old daughter Carly, who they placed for adoption in 2009. Airing on World Adoption Day, the episode saw Baltierra and Lowell’s reactions after spending time with Carly and her adoptive parents — though the cameras weren’t allowed to film the visit itself. The family spent time together at an undisclosed park and later gathered for a group dinner. “When Ty and I chose a semi-open adoption at 16, I never realized how joyful and painful it would be,” Lowell said in the episode. “After Carly turned 4, the cameras weren’t allowed at our visits out of respect to her adoptive parents, but now I focus on the girls having a relationship as sisters.” Viewers saw Baltierra and Lowell make the heartwrenching decision to place Carly for adoption on a...

Apple TV+'s quirky and heart-warming musical comedy, Schmigadoon!, feels like it sprang fully formed off our screen and into our lives a few weeks ago.
In actuality, it filmed over forty-three days in the fall of 2020, a period when many film and television productions were either completely shut down or pivoting to digital remote formats where performers could isolate but still interact.
Meanwhile, Schmigadoon! presents us with huge, glorious musical numbers where the actors Touch each other and Sing to each other.
On Schmigadoon!'s virtual press day, TV Fanatic had the opportunity to discuss with stars Aaron Tveit (Danny Bailey) and Dove Cameron (Betsy McDonough) what that was like.
Tveit, a veteran of film and television but probably best known for his work in live theatre, winning a Tony award for his portrayal of Christian on Broadway's Moulin Rouge, was mindful of the unique circumstances of producing Schmigadoon!

Les McKeown, who sang lead for Scottish ’70s hitmakers Bay City Rollers during its heyday, died Tuesday at home, his family announced. He was 65. No cause of death was revealed.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of our beloved husband and father Leslie Richard McKeown, his family posted on the singer’s Twitter account. “We are currently making arrangements for his funeral and ask privacy after the shock of our profound loss.”

Considered a progenitor of the modern boy band, the Edinburgh quintet saw McKeown join in 1973. He replaced original singer Gordon “Nobby” Clark two years after the group had broken through with a top 10 single in the UK. In 1974, Bay City Rollers scored a second British hit with the McKeown-sung “Remember (Sha La La),” which began a streak of nine consecutive Top 10 hits for the Bell label in the UK.

Following the success of 2007's award-winning movie Juno, TV shows navigating teen pregnancy dominated the airwaves. MTV did it best with their groundbreaking show 16 and Pregnant. Its spinoff, Teen Mom, premiered in 2009, documenting the highs and lows of several young moms: Farrah Abraham, Maci Bookout, Catelynn Lowell, and Amber Portwood.

Despite its huge following and its undeniable impact on MTV's programming throughout the 2010s, Teen Mom has a surprisingly low score on IMDb of 3.6/10. Compared to MTV's other reality shows, that's very low. Perhaps the drama is too real for some viewers, or maybe some reviewers are just bitter that MTV is no longer focused on music videos like they once were. Although it carries a low rating on IMDb, Teen Mom has had an undeniable impact on pop culture. Here's a ranking of the seasons that make up that low IMDb score.

MTV is bringing back “16 and Pregnant,” which launched in 2009 but hasn’t aired since 2014.
What MTV is calling “a newly reimagined docuseries” will air a six-episode season beginning next month with all new moms and stories.
The 2020 iteration – part of MTV’s “16 and” franchise – will follow the unexpected pregnancy journey from multiple perspectives, not just from the young mother, according to MTV’s description. Video confessionals from members of each family aim to allow the series to more substantively explore the lives of those impacted by the experience.
Readers can watch a promo via the video above.
The original “16 and Pregnant” spawned three spinoffs, “Teen Mom Og” (a.k.a. the original “Teen Mom”), “Teen Mom 2” and “Teen Mom: Young + Pregnant.”
MTV recently launched a new “16 and” sister program “16 and Recovering,” a four-part documentary series that follows the triumphs and challenges of nine students...

MTV is bringing back its 16 And franchise with 16 and Recovering, a four-part docuseries about adolescent addiction to mark National Recovery Month. The docuseries hails from Emmy-nominated Steve Liss and Regina K. Scully of the Artemis Rising Foundation and premieres on September 1 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt.
16 and Recovering follows nine students at Northshore Recovery High School in Beverly, Ma, where teens work to recover from drug addictions while earning their diplomas. Principal and founder Michelle Lipinski founded the school in order to create a safe and supportive community, while placing a high value on education and accountability.

In the limited series, audiences will follow students and families’ paths to recovery as they are guided by faculty members who have gone through their own experiences with addiction.

Angus Macfadyen is on an island off Panama. About as far away as you can get from the highlands of Scotland, or the snowy hills of Montana — more on that in a moment. He has a movie coming out. One he’s waited 25 years to cowrite and star in. He’s Robert The Bruce in a film called, wait for it, he did: “Robert The Bruce.” It’s a kinda sorta sequel to the role he played in “Braveheart.” But Macfadyen says “it stands on it’s own.” He also corrects a little of Mel Gibson‘s history — no not the really bad stuff — about the 1995 Oscar winner.
