Following in the footsteps of Winnie The Pooh: Blood & Honey, The Mouse Trap will turn Mickey Mouse into a bloodthirsty killer.

What strange times we live in. Not only have we had two Winnie The Pooh themed horror films and a Cinderella one in the works, we’re also getting a Mickey Mouse slasher this September.

The Mouse Trap, formerly known as Mickey’s Mouse Trap, is skipping cinemas altogethe and heading to digital retailers on 30th September.

Jamie Bailey is on directing duties while Simon Phillips, who also plays the mouse-turned-killer, has penned the script. The film’s first teaser trailer was posted online immediately after the character of Steamboat Willie became available in the public domain on 1st January.

Last year, producer/director Louisa Warren announced that she was working on two fractured fairy tale horror movies, Cinderella’s Curse and Sleeping Beauty’s Massacre. Now our friends at Bloody Disgusting have revealed that Sleeping Beauty’s Massacre has been given a VOD release – but it’s not called Sleeping Beauty’s Massacre anymore. Horror movies based on public domain properties are pretty hot right now, but it seems a lot of filmmakers are messing around and finding out when wading into these waters. Much the same way Mickey’s Mouse Trap was retitled The Mouse Trap for its VOD release this week, the film formerly titled Sleeping Beauty’s Massacre has a new title for its own release.

With the short film Steamboat Willie (1928) in the public domain, horror filmmakers are now free to play around with that early incarnation of Mickey Mouse, and that’s exactly what director Jamie Bailey is doing in the upcoming indie slasher movie The Mouse Trap.

Bloody Disgusting has learned that Gravitas Ventures will release The Mouse Trap on VOD outlets beginning August 6, 2024, followed by the film’s Blu-ray release on August 13.

Pigeon Shrine FrightFest 2024, the UK’s premier horror and fantasy film festival, has announced its thrilling lineup for this year’s event. Marking its 25th edition, the festival will run from Thursday, 22 August to Monday, 26 August, taking over the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London. For the first time, the festival will utilise all seven screens, including two Odeon Luxe West End screens, to showcase a diverse selection of horror films from around the globe.

The festival opens with the world premiere of Broken Bird, the highly anticipated directorial debut from actress-filmmaker Joanne Mitchell. Based on an original story by Tracey Sheals and Mitchell’s award-winning short Sybil, the film tells the disturbing tale of a mortician, played by Rebecca Calder, whose dark desires spiral out of control.

Closing the festival is the English premiere of The Substance, the latest film from French writer-director Coralie Fargeat, known for her previous hit Revenge.

As one of the most well-known, evergreen classic stories, the tale of Cinderella has gone through numerous retellings, which has added to its universal appeal. However, Director Louisa Warren’s brutal, dark, straight-up body horror-themed reimagining of the story Cinderella’s Curse is something we could never have come up with in our wildest dreams. While the core essence of the story remains largely unchanged throughout the majority of the movie, the few alterations establish it as more of an adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie in the medieval fantasy setting of Cinderella.

If you are among the extreme minority of viewers who actually liked the twisted vision behind Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, then Cinderella’s Curse is right up your alley; only this one has much better treatment in terms of the narrative than that of Winnie the abomination. Now we can add a third project to the list of movies that put a horror twist on the classic fairy tale: director Emilie Blichfeldt’s feature debut The Ugly Stepsister.

Variety reports that Memento International will be presenting this horror comedy to potential distributors at the upcoming Cannes Film Market. The film is said to be a gory, daring, and unexpected take on the world-famous tale, seen through the eyes of the Cinderella’s stepsister, Elvira. The story follows Elvira as she battles to compete with her insanely beautiful stepsister in a kingdom where beauty is a brutal business. She will go to any lengths to catch the prince’s eye.

The classic tale of Cinderella gets a rated “R” horror makeover in the upcoming Cinderella’s Curse, and we’re exclusively debuting the trailer and poster art today.

ITN Studios will be releasing Cinderella’s Curse in theaters in 2024.

As much grief as we give Disney Adults, one of the most shamed groups of people on the internet, we must now all come together to defeat a much greater evil: the directors creating horror films using beloved childhood Disney characters as they begin to enter public domain. The copyright on the version of Mickey Mouse from the debut short, Steamboat Willie (1928), expired as we entered the new year. Already, details — and even a trailer — have been shared about two upcoming movies starring the darling rodent in a murderous capacity.

Winnie the Pooh got his own (unofficial) horror movie last year with Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, and this year it’s Mickey Mouse’s turn to (unofficially) do a little slicing and dicing.

The Mickey Mouse character entered the public domain just yesterday and already the first teaser trailer has been unleashed for Mickey’s Mouse Trap, an upcoming low-budget horror movie that was obviously shot before the character fell into the public domain but is only being announced and previewed now that Disney can’t actually come after the filmmaking team.

How is Mickey Mouse in the public domain, you ask? Well, it’s actually the short film Steamboat Willie (1928) that entered the public domain this year, bringing Mickey along with it. A Killer Mickey video game was also announced already, which is titled Infestation 88.

ITN Studios, the distributor behind cult micro budget horror “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey,” has released a first look at its upcoming project “Cinderella’s Curse.”

Produced and directed by Louisa Warren, the film stars Kelly Rian Sanson, Chrissie Wunna and Danielle Scott.

Harry Boxley (“Mary Had A Little Lamb”) wrote the screenplay.

“Cinderella’s Curse” is a spine-chilling twist on the familiar fairytale.

It’s already started shooting in the U.K. and the first images show Sanson with classic blonde ringlets covered in sweat, cuts and grime. In another image, a blonde woman clad in a white mask is covered in blood and appears to be holding a knife.

Natasha Henstridge of the first two Species movies and John Carpenter’s Ghosts of Mars, among other credits, has signed on to star in Cinderella’s Revenge, which gives the classic fairy tale a horror twist. Filming is already underway in the UK, with Andy Edwards (Zombie Spring Breakers) directing for Sobini Films.

Starring Lauren Staerck (Curse of Jack Frost) as Cinderella, this take on the fairy tale will show us what happens when Cinderella’s wicked stepsisters and stepmother push her too far, leading her to swap her glass slippers in pursuit of blood-soaked vengeance with the help of her Fairy Godmother.

Two new horror movies inspired by the folk tale Cinderella are currently in the works. In late May, the project Cinderella's Curse, which stars Curse of Humpty Dumpty 2's Kelly Rian Sanson, was announced with a planned release set for October. That movie is produced and directed by Louisa Warren, who previously collaborated with Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey producer Scott Jeffrey on a horror movie about the Tooth Fairy.

Per Deadline, Cinderella's Curse will have some competition coming soon with the newly announced movie Cinderella's Revenge. Andy Edwards is directing the project, which is currently in production in the UK. It will follow Cinderella (Lauren Staerck) teaming up with her Fairy Godmother (Species' Natasha Henstridge) to enact bloody revenge on her wicked stepmother and stepsisters. A horror retelling of Sleeping Beauty is officially in the works. Charles Perrault's 1697 fairy tale has been adapted into countless films and television shows over the years, including the classic 1959 animated Disney movie and the two live-action Maleficent films which retell the story from the perspective of the eponymous antagonist played by Angelina Jolie. We broke the news last week that Cinderella is getting her own horror movie with the upcoming Cinderella’s Curse, and Bloody Disgusting has learned this week that the same production company is developing another horror spin on a classic children’s tale.

A horror retelling of Sleeping Beauty, the film Sleeping Beauty’s Massacre is on the way from ChampDog Films, with shooting set to kick off this August in the UK.
