I love Vanilla DeVille's Adult work, especially as piloted here by Nica Noelle in a decidedly old-fashioned romance aimed at Couples audiences. This is a rare title from the defunct Hard Candy label and worth seeking if you (like me) are a card-carrying fan of the departed erotic romance wing of Adult Entertainment.
Nica tells her story simply but with great attention to the naturalism of the sex scenes (her trademark over the past decade). Dane Cross, who has made more appearances in MILF sagas than other actors of his generation, surmounts the typecasting this time with a sensitive, tentative performance as the old family friend invited over for Winter Break from college by Vanilla's son Xander Corvus.
They haven't seen him for two years, and the now grown-up Dane is enamored of both mom Deville and her daughter Zoe Voss. What continues to amaze me after having watched over 130 of Nica's features, is how she takes the most basic of material and brings it to life through deft writing and nearly always winning performances. (Her recent stress on boy/boy cinema is still lacking that last element, working with players not used to acting or delivering dialog.)
So the standard rundown of "scenes" in XXX parlance is nothing special, as Xander humps his lovely girlfriend Chastity Lynn, Vanilla has torrid sex with her current man Evan Stone, and then Dane in not-so-quick succession has sex with first Zoe and then her mother. Xander is extremely unhappy with this turn of events and by closing it seems his friendship with Dane is at an end, but not before the friendly homewrecker has reaped his whirlwind in the household. I guess the fans are fortunate in that Nica did not direct this one in 2016, as Dane would have likely humped Xander as well, to complete his family trifecta.
The nuance with which Vanilla plays her difficult role is most impressive, and I wish she had been given more opportunities, perhaps a la Raylene who she so closely physically resembles, to act rather than merely have sex on screen over the years.
