The nominations have been revealed for the 2025 GLAAD Media Awards, and one critically acclaimed LGBTQ+ film is notably absent from the pack of nominees.

The annual awards ceremony will return for a 36th year in 2025. According to GLAAD, it’s goal is to “recognize and honor fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the LGBTQ community in an ever-expanding and media landscape.”

On Wednesday (January 22), the organization revealed the crop of nominees that would be honored at the ceremony. While projects such as Wicked and Queer were notably featured, Netflix’s Emilia Perez was left off the list.

The snub comes after GLAAD declared that the movie, which stars Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez and trans actress Karla Sofia Gascon, was “not good trans representation” in a November 2024 essay. The story included reviews from transgender film critics and noted that “inauthentic portrayals of trans people are offensive and even dangerous.”

Other nominees include “Wicked,” “Queer,” “Love Lies Bleeding,” “My Old Ass,” “Abbott Elementary,” “Hacks,” “What We Do in the Shadows,” “Fancy Dance,” “Mother of the Bride,” “Baby Reindeer,” “Selling Sunset,” “Queer Eye” and “Real Housewives of New York City.” There are a total of 318 nominees across 33 categories at this year’s Awards.

The GLAAD Media Awards is a yearly event that honors outstanding, accurate and inclusive representations of LGBTQ+ people and issues in film, television, gaming, publishing, stage productions, music, journalism and more.

“The GLAAD Media Awards were created nearly four decades ago to champion LGBTQ stories amid a deeply hostile and unsafe time for our community,” said GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis.

Animal Crossing has become one of Nintendo's most beloved franchises thanks, in large part, to its cozy atmosphere, adorable villagers, and compelling gameplay loop. However, not every game in the series is as fondly remembered nor as commercially successful, with particular entries ending up being flops comparatively. The majority of these unsuccessful Animal Crossing games failed because of poor gameplay or for being uninteresting spin-offs.

However, one of them was a genuinely good Animal Crossing experience, one that has a small following but is largely left an underrated classic deserving of more love. Fans of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete have found a small but sweet way to show their Camp Caretakers how much they appreciate their hard work. The title has replaced the previously free-to-play Pocket Camp, allowing people to continue enjoying the legacy of the seven-year-old game. Part of the Pocket Camp experience entails appointing one villager to be the camp's official caretaker, and fans are sharing how they show their appreciation for the characters.

Caretakers help out with the camp when the players aren't logged in, fulfilling requests and collecting materials even when the app is closed. The next time players log in, caretakers share a report of everything they've accomplished while the player was gone and give them any items they'd collected. Every time the caretaker helps out, players can choose between two options in response.

Sundance Film Festival has announced the 16 jurors heading into the festival launch on January 23, with Critics’ Week artistic director Ava Cahen,Celine Song, and Daniel Kaluuya among those taking part.

Song, whose Oscar-nominated Past Lives premiered in Park City in 2023, joins Bob Marley: One Love director Reinaldo Marcus Green, and Iranian-born Succession actor Arian Moayed as U.S. Dramatic Competition jurors.

Levan Akin’s Crossing and Frida Kempff’s The Swedish Torpedo headed the winners at Sweden’s Guldbagge national film awards, presented in Stockholm on Monday, January 13.

Crossing won the best film award, presented to producer Mathilde Dedye – the second time Akin and Dedye have taken the top Guldbagge award, after And Then We Danced in 2020.

One Animal Crossing: New Horizons player thought outside the box when creating a gyroid fight club on their island. After the 2.0 update brought back gyroids to the game, players have been able to plant and dig up their silly little gyroid friends for some time now. With over 36 differing gyroids in the game, each creating a musical sound of their own, these little fellas are totally adorable but often just used as decorational figures around player's islands.

Wanting to have a bit more of a purpose for their varying gyroids, Reddit user Prior_Ad_7429 decided that they'd create an "underground gyroid fight club" on their island's beach. Besides my annual trip to the Toronto International Film Festival—at which I mostly saw films that have not yet been released stateside—I went to the movie theater twice this year. As someone who used to go at least once a week, coming to grips with that number is tough.

It happened for many reasons. Covid. Time constraints. The ease of truncated theatrical windows. And the worsening theatrical experience itself since one of those two visits (both press screenings) demanded three restarts before finally figuring out the correct aspect ratio. Don’t get me wrong: I’m glad they kept working to get it right because that film appears on this list, but you can’t tell me it would have been fixed had it been a regular public screening.

Achieving the maximum possible island evaluation rating is, of course, a long-term goal; it's not the kind of thing you can achieve in your first day, week, or even month of playing Acnh. Sorry, Hollywood. Indie studios have officially taken over the poster game. Of the 25 films listed below, I can count the number of legacy studios on one hand (even that’s putting Focus Features under the Universal umbrella). Yes, some of that has to do with a strike-enforced lack of releases beyond true tentpoles and their glossy, Photoshopped marketing campaigns, but it’s also a continued reluctance to take risks in all facets of production. I get that they don’t need to––those types of films sell themselves––but a bit of ingenuity still increases public perception.

Some of it probably has to do with the strain of contractual obligations as far as billing and credits go with blockbuster fare (why most of the best posters are teasers rather than finals), but there are ways around such stipulations if you’re willing to push the envelope. An Animal Crossing: New Horizons player has faithfully created a viral real-life image with clever use of a few in-game items. In a game as open-ended and customizable as Animal Crossing, it's no surprise that every player takes it upon themselves to play it in an entirely different way. Some simply enjoy the relaxing gameplay flow, getting to know their neighbors and expressing their creativity through island, home, and clothing designs. Others are Animal Crossing min-maxers, trying to get to a five-star island as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Still others use it as a means to express their sense of humor, as seen in a recent post by Reddit user liftupsuns. The post perfectly recreates a widely circulated Reddit post from a few days earlier, in which an unsuspecting user purchased a humidifier as a Christmas gift for their girlfriend, only to wake up the next morning to a room shrouded in fog.

One Animal Crossing: New Horizons fan discovered the hard way that the donation box is not worth the effort, despite earning 101k bells back from selling it when it was a hot item. Some players might've missed this item before, hidden away in the Nook Stop Atm as a DIY recipe that can be crafted. When others interact with the finished item, they're able to leave a donation of 1,000 bells to whoever owns it, allowing others to thank those they have visited in a fun and cute way.

There's a little more to the donation box though, as the player Afraid_Tiger_4798 learned when selling a donation box as a "hot item of the day" at Nook's Cranny. Allowing players to double their money when selling an item selected on these days, players that get lucky with it as one of the options will look to fill the donation...

A strange letter delivered by an Animal Crossing villager had one player stumped until the community offered an explanation. Animal Crossing: Wild World has many ways to interact with villagers, and one of them is through letters. Players can send and receive letters to and from their favorite villagers. Sometimes, like in the case of one particular player, these letters can leave fans scratching their heads in confusion.

"Any explanation for this one?" asks Reddit user and Animal Crossing fan, CryptographerOk1267. The letter had been given to them by Patty, a peppy cow villager, and depicts a series of seemingly nonsensical letters. The note looks almost like players are supposed to fill in the blanks. It contains the following letters, oddly spaced out and scattered across all four lines of the paper: "I c n n u O O a t L m e C." The bottom text reads simply "Reply by tomorrow!

Fans are hoping for Infinity Nikki collaboration events in the future, and they have plenty of ideas for which franchises and titles would work best in the cozy game. The title is a cozy and beautiful exploration free-to-play game with a strong emphasis on finding and creating outfits. Infinity Nikki is the fifth game in the Nikki franchise, so developers InFold aren't new to the narrative dress-up genre. The team behind the game also has plenty of experience working with other companies to bring crossovers to players.

Now that Infinity Nikki is out and reaching an even broader audience than the games before it— the title passed 10 million downloads within its first week—fans are hoping that the title will also have some collaboration events.

The news comes just ahead of the Season 2 finale hitting The CW (tonight at 8/7c), and six months after the series was renewed for Season 3 by Canadian producer CTV.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete custom design imports don't all work, so some fans have gotten together to create a list of ones that do. Fans got a nice surprise last week when the title launched with the ability to import custom designs from Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Unfortunately, it seems that the import functionality is somewhat limited and many of the designs cannot be brought into the mobile game.

Many players were left confused when trying to import designs since many of them seemed not to be available. Certain designs, especially paths, floors, and other non-clothing styles show an error message: "This design is not supported." The issue seems to be with the design types, and the pattern needs to be correctly labeled by the creator as a ground or floor pattern for Pocket Camp to be able to recognize and import it.

Bradford English had a screen acting career that spanned from 1971 to 2010, and over those 39 years he racked up more than 70 credits – but for many of us, he’s best remembered for playing the drunk, abusive blowhard John Strode in the 1995 horror sequel Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers. Sadly, we lost English right before Halloween this year, as it has been reported that he passed away on October 25th in Pasadena, California at the age of 82.

Lithuanian drama Toxic, the debut feature of Saule Bliuvaite, has picked up the Golden Peacock award for best film at the 55th International Film Festival of India.

Toxic follows two teenage girls from a bleak industrial town who join an extreme local modelling school. Featuring a cast of non-actors, it premiered at Locarno in August where it won the Golden Leopard for best film as well as the best first feature award.

Lithuanian filmmaker Saulė Bliuvaitė’s “Toxic” took home the best film award at the 55th International Film Festival of India (Iffi) in Goa. The jury, headed by Indian director Ashutosh Gowariker, recognized the film for its portrayal of adolescence and economic hardship.

Previously, at Locarno, “Toxic” won not only the Golden Leopard for Best Film in the fest’s premier International Competition — from a jury chaired by Austrian auteur Jessica Hausner — but also, in an unusual double, the top prize in the separately juried First Feature Competition.

Variety‘s positive review of “Toxic” described the film as “sobering but not without glimmers of tenderness and humor as female friendship takes root in a hopeless place,” adding that its “alternation between chilly composure and kinetic movement roughly corresponds with [the protagonist’s] wavering sense of self.”

Romanian director Bogdan Muresanu nabbed the best director prize for “The New Year That Never Came,” a multi-narrative feature set during a revolution.
