Greenhouse has its two leads in place as Adam McKay looks to tackle global warming in his follow-up to 2021’s Don’t Look Up.

Adam McKay’s last film was the star-studded Netflix comedy drama Don’t Look Up. The film was widely viewed on the streaming platform and lots of folks enjoyed its satirical take on the way the human race might reasonably be expected to respond if an Extinction Level Event chanced to head in our general direction.

For one reason or another, however, Adam McKay’s plans for a further collaboration with Netflix were dropped. The Vice filmmaker had announced the serial killer comedy drama Average Height, Average Build as his next project. The cast had been named too, with Robert Pattinson, Amy Adams, Robert Downey Jr, Forest Whitaker and Danielle Deadwyler set to form the kind of starry ensemble that McKay was able to bring together for Don’t Look Up.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Adam McKay is set to produce Stormbound, an upcoming Imax feature doc about storm chasers.

Imax will finance the pic now in production from McKay’s Hyperobject Industries. Miko Lim will direct the film using proprietary Imax film and digital cameras ahead of a planned 2025 release.

News of Stormbound, which follows the life of storm chaser Jeff Gammons during peak storm season in the U.S., comes after McKay shelved his Netflix political satire Average Height, Average Build that was set to star Robert Pattinson and Amy Adams to instead focus on a project revolving around climate change.

The collaboration between the two actors would have been exciting and marked their first on-screen appearance together. The cancellation of the comedy film is disappointing, as it would have showcased the comedic talents of both Downey and Pattinson.

Despite putting together a great cast, the serial killer comedy Average Height, Average Build from Oscar-winning filmmaker Adam McKay (Vice, Don’t Look Up) is no longer in the works.

Per Deadline, the filmmaker is opting to direct a climate-related project next and will no longer be helming the serial killer comedy. McKay had penned Average Height, Average Build and brought the project to Netflix, and there is currently no plans to move forward with the film without him.

Average Height, Average Build was announced earlier this year, with Robert Pattinson, Amy Adams, Robert Downey Jr., Forest Whitaker and Danielle Deadwyler set to lead the cast of the upcoming genre comedy. What a tremendous cast assembled, too.

Adam McKay won’t move forward with “Average Height, Average Build,” a comedy about a serial killer that was set to star Robert Pattinson, Amy Adams and Robert Downey Jr. Netflix was supposed to produce the star-studded film, but the streamer won’t make the project without McKay’s involvement behind the camera, sources confirmed to Variety.

Instead, the writer and director will reportedly focus on a movie about climate change, a topic that seems about as ripe for laughs as murderers. However, McKay has found the humor in dark topics before — tackling the financial crash of 2008 in “The Big Short,” the Iraq War in “Vice,” and natural disasters with “Don’t Look Up.” It’s unclear how he’ll take on the mounting threat to the planet or if Netflix will be involved.

Exclusive: Adam McKay, who has been outspoken about the threat of global warming, is deciding to make his next directorial project a climate-related one. Insiders add that with that project now getting all of McKay’s attention, he will no longer be directing the Netflix movie Average Height, Average Build, and the film will no longer be moving forward.

McKay had penned Average Height, Average Build and brought the project to Netflix. With him no longer involved, there is no plan to find a replacement and move forward with the film.

Netflix could not be reached for comment. No other plot details are known and no other talent attachments are involved with the climate project at this time.

“Don’t Look Up” writer/director/producer Adam McKay has inked a deal to bring his upcoming film “Average Height, Average Build” to Netflix.

The comedy will star Robert Pattinson, Amy Adams and Robert Downey Jr. McKay will also write and produce the film, Netflix confirmed to TheWrap Sunday.

As expected with any McKay film, the cast of “Average Height, Average Build” is star-stacked. Pattinson plays a serial killer, who enlists a lobbyist (Adams) to change the law so that he can more readily commit his murders. Downey plays a retired cop, who is trailing Pattinson. Forest Whitaker and Danielle Deadwyler also star, with more to be announced at a later date, according to Netflix.

After a search that started back in March, Adam McKay will be reuniting with Netflix for his next feature, Average Height, Average Build. This would be McKay’s second consecutive feature with the streaming giant, following 2021’s Don’t Look Up.

As per Deadline, the plot of black comedy Average Height, Average Build goes something like: “[Robert[ Pattinson will play a serial killer who enlists a lobbyist ([Amy] Adams) to change laws that will allow him to get away with murder more easily. [Robert] Downey’s role is a retired cop who won’t give up on the murders, and the killer tries to prevent him from dogging his trail now that he’s hung up his gun. The serial killer turns himself into a cause celebre, a Mr. Smith Goes to Washington figure shielding his true motives.” In addition to those stars, Forest Whitaker and Danielle Deadwyler have joined the cast. Adams previously worked with McKay on Vice, playing wife to Christian Bale’s Dick Cheney.

Adam McKay is partnering with Netflix again for his follow-up to “Don’t Look Up.” The streamer has acquired the director’s next feature comedy, titled “Average Height, Average Build.”

The film will star Robert Pattinson as a serial killer that looks to leverage American politicians to make murder easier, as well as Amy Adams as the state lobbyist that forms a unique connection with the murderer. Adams reunites with McKay after earning an Oscar nomination in best supporting actress for her turn as Lynne Cheney in their 2018 comedy “Vice.” The ensemble also includes Robert Downey Jr., Forest Whitaker and Danielle Deadwyler.

Along with writing and directing, McKay will produce under his Hyperobject Industries banner with Kevin Messick. The film does not yet have an official release date.

McKay had reportedly been searching for a home for the package in recent months, eventually electing to return to the studio that released his most recent feature.
