The second season of Apple TV+’s psychological thriller “Surface” has a new trailer for its eight-episode season, teasing Sophie’s (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) ambitious venture to London.

The new chapter of the show follows Sophie as she is forced to unravel the secrets of her past with an injury that has wiped her memories clean. She embeds herself in royal British society but everything changes when a journalist unexpectedly reaches out to her about a new scandal.

Indie genre director Mickey Keating, who broke out with films such as 2015’s “Darling” and 2016’s “Carnage Park,” has wrapped shooting on his latest movie, the crime drama “Crooks.”

The film stars Keith Kupferer (“Ghostlight”), Angela Trimbur (“Quiz Lady”), Chase Williamson (“John Dies At the End”) and Melora Walters (“Magnolia”).

Per the logline, “Two small-time crooks rob a mob-run poker game in Chicago. Things immediately go wrong, resulting in a high-stakes adventure through the Midwest.”

“’Crooks’ is an incredible opportunity for me to break into the crime movie genre, which I’ve been hoping to do since I started my career,” Keating said in a statement. “This film is a highly stylized celebration of aesthetics ranging from noir to heist to western. The young man who endeavored to assassinate former U.S. president Donald Trump researched Kate Middleton and plotted another assassination of an unknown target; the FBI has revealed.

Thomas Matthew Crooks reportedly downloaded images of Princess Catherine. Crooks was apparently fixated on the British royal. The FBI searched Crooks’ home after the attack on Saturday and found evidence of this on his electronic devices and mobile phone.

The FBI had previously refused to identify the royal Crooks had researched. The 20-year-old would-be assassin, Matthew Crooks also researched President Joe Biden, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, and FBI Director Christopher Wray.

Rising Florida rapper Julio Foolio, known for tracks like “Crooks” and “Reach The Top,” was killed in a shooting outside a Tampa hotel early Sunday morning. The artist, whose real name was Charles Jones, was 26.

The incident occurred during a weekend of birthday celebrations Jones promoted on social media. Three others were wounded in the attack, according to local authorities.

Tampa police responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 4:40 a.m. Sunday in the parking lot of a Holiday Inn located at 11606 McKinley Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered two vehicles that bullets had struck.

Lewis Fusco, Jones’ representative from the Jacksonville-based Fusco Law Group, provided additional details in a statement released Monday. According to Fusco, Jones initially stayed at an Airbnb rental but was asked to leave after his party exceeded the property’s occupancy limits. The rapper then relocated to the Holiday Inn, where the shooting took place.

Exclusive: Netflix’s urban fantasy drama The Grimm Reality will not see the light of day. We’ve learned that the series from Dark producer Wiedemann & Berg and The Gryphon co-producer Dog Haus Films has been quietly shelved.

The Grimm Reality first went into development at Netflix’s German base and then into production in late 2022. We understand filming had completed, but it will not move further forwards at Netflix.

Plot details on the show were not revealed, but it was assumed to be based on the Brothers Grimm folklore tales of the 18th and 19th centuries. The series was billed a “fairy tale urban fantasy thriller,” according to What’s on Netflix, which initially broke the news of the show.

Show creators were Till Kleinert (Der Samurai) and Dog Haus’ Erol Yesilkaya, who is a producer and scriptwriter. Actors including Hyuan Wanner, Patrick Isermeyer, Eidin Jalali and Dennis Schuermann were cast.

France’s Mediawan has acquired Germany’s Leonine Studios.

The deal, financial terms of which were not revealed, has been bubbling since November last year. Call My Agent maker Mediawan has owned a 25% stake in the business since 2020.

The all-stock deal will see the two companies move even closer together and forms a major European indie studio with 85 labels operating across 13 countries and revenues of more than €1B ($1.1B).

Leonine was founded in 2019 by Fred Kogel with financial support from Kkr — a Mediawan backer — and Atwater Capital through acquiring and merging Tmg, Universum Film, i&u TV and Wiedemann & Berg Film, and then W&b Television, Seo Entertainment, Hyperbole, BeetzBros Film Production and Toon2Tango.

European powerhouse Mediawan has acquired Leonine, a leading production and distribution group active in German-speaking markets.

With the acquisition of Leonine, Mediawan will boast a portfolio of 85 labels, a catalogue spanning 30,000 hours of premium content and revenues exceeding €1.3 billion ($1.4 billion). Mediawan’s worth is now believed to be in the $2-billion range. The deal is an all-stock transaction; both companies have the same shareholder, the U.S. private equity fund Kkr whose stake in Mediawan will still be below 50%, according to a source close to the company.

Mediawan now has a significant footprint in all major European markets, including German-speaking territories which represent the continent’s second largest TV market. The pact positions Mediawan as one of the world’s biggest super indies with a large proportion of scripted business across prestige series and movies. Mediawan now spans 13 countries including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Scandinavia, Benelux and the U.K.

After a slow start of 2.3 million views in its opening weekend on Netflix, viewership of Andrew Scott’s “Ripley” barely increased in its first full week of availability. The standing room-only session — which featured two DJs on stage spinning tracks to a Netflix sizzle — was a “roadshow”-style presentation that featured a number of clips from the streamer’s forthcoming European shows, followed by a short panel with commissioners Katja Hofem from Germany, Damien Couvreur from France and Jenny Stjernströmer Björk from the Nordics. Each briefly discussed their new shows but didn’t go into detail about their editorial strategies.

Due to the exclusive nature of the clips, security was extremely strict at the session, with French guards shouting at delegates — including journalists — to put away any laptops and phones, making any reporting of the session virtually impossible.
