Prime Video has been tossing up a healthy mix of streaming "content" of late, and has been seeing success with its diverse slate. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley's murder mystery "Killer Heat" dominated Prime Video in October of 2024, which followed the success of the Awkwafina and John Cena comedy "Jackpot!" in August. Now, it's time for the new action thriller "Canary Black" to have a turn.

After his latest film Jackpot! premiered on Prime Video in August, the director recently called streaming platforms “a blessing for filmmakers who simply want to get their movies made” amid an ongoing decline in production following last year’s strikes.

“We’d all love to be making theatrical films with big releases but with the studios cutting back on their output, the streamers have really stepped up to let us tell our stories with real budgets,” Feig told Empire.

The film is based on a screenplay by Rebecca Sonnenshine that adapted Freida McFadden’s novel, which sold over 3.6 million copies.

The Stifmeister is coming to ABC for the upcoming comedy series Shifting Gears. The Milf hunter, Seann William Scott, joins Tim Allen and Kat Dennings for the multi-camera project, which goes into production in November. Scott boards the series for a lead role that replaces the character Nick from the pilot episode.

According to the show’s description, Tim Allen plays Matt, the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter, Riley (Dennings), and her teenage kids move into his house, the actual restoration begins. Scott plays Gabriel for the series, a family friend of Matt and Riley who works at the shop with Matt. Scott’s Gabriel replaces Nick from the pilot. Initially, Froy Gutierrez played Nick. Nick was Matt’s son and Riley’s younger brother, who spent his days coding video games. Nick is no longer a part of the show as it moves into production.

Seann William Scott has been tapped as a lead opposite Tim Allen and Kat Dennings in the upcoming ABC multi-camera comedy series Shifting Gears.

The sitcom, which will go into production in November, stars Allen as Matt, the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter, Riley (Dennings), and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 2 suffered a major viewership drop in its second week on Luminate’s weekly streaming originals chart.

Last week, the Amazon Prime Video series managed to nab second place with 764.7 million minutes watched in the first full week of availability of its first three episodes combined with the first day of availability of its fourth episode. But during the Sept. 6-12 viewing window — which included the first full week of Episode 4 and the first day of Episode 5 — it only hit 372.7 million minutes watched, landing in fourth place. While there was less new content to watch compared to the week before, when the first three episodes has just debuted, it still doesn’t bode well for a large IP title to drop by more than 50% after one week, when word-of-mouth appeal should still be high. It should be noted that Luminate only measures U.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings premiered in 2021, garnering mostly positive reviews and earning $432.2 million against a budget of $150-200 million, marking it as a success. Still, when it was first announced that Paul Feig was to direct the film, it was going under a different name: it was initially reported that the movie was called Grand Theft Lotto. In fact, the film went into production under that title, and it was only as it headed towards release did it become apparent that an alteration had been made. John Cena was one of the many actors involved in Warner Bros.’ now-shelved “Coyote vs. Acme,” and he remains sad about its fate. That said, he is keeping his faith in the process that led to said fate.

The film was officially scrapped back in November, despite being fully finished and screened for some audiences. The decision sparked heavy criticism, both from fans and those involved with the film. In response, the studio walked back the decision in part, allowing the film to be shopped around. In the end, though, as TheWrap exclusively reported in February, Warner Bros. turned down several offers, and “Coyote vs. Acme” remains unreleased.

Speaking to TheWrap ahead of his new film “Jackpot!” — now streaming on Prime Video — Cena opened up about the Hollywood process and how he’s feeling about the decision all these months later.

“There’s a lot there. And everyone’s perspective is different.
