Rom-coms have been no small piece of director Mark Waters’s career. He’s the man behind films including “Just Like Heaven” and “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past,” he produced “500 Days of Summer,” and more.
But, even with a new rom-com out on Netflix this week, if you ask Waters himself, he wouldn’t necessarily tout himself as a king in the genre.
“I think I’m the person who’s responsible for killing people’s rom-com career,” Waters joked with TheWrap. “Because I know that Mark Ruffalo, after [‘Just Like Heaven’], I don’t think he did another rom-com. And after ‘Ghosts of Girlfriends Past,’ I think Matthew McConaughey never did another one.”
In fairness, that’s because both actors went on to star in much heavier fare, intentionally so. And Waters knows that, saying that “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” was a “bridging” role for McConaughey, as the character...

La Dolce Villa is the latest in a long line of low to mid-budget romantic comedies sold to Netflix by no-name studios that have become a shockingly massive part of the streamer’s overall output. But this does happen to be a case where the romantic film in question arrives just in time for the holiday of romance: Valentine’s Day.
This is purely a coincidence though, as the film’s plot has literally nothing to do with February 14, instead focusing on an unlikely romance in picturesque Italy. But does this story have more than beautiful scenery and the current air of romance to make it worth seeking out amidst an ocean of competition? Let’s see if we can figure that out.

Heard of those homes in the Italian countryside that only cost a euro? Sounds like a great deal, right? Scott Foley isn’t so sure.
In the new romantic comedy La Dolce Villa, now streaming, the Scandal star heads to Italy to stop his daughter from frittering away her entire bank account on restoring one of those villas. Of course, that’s only the beginning of his trip. By the end of it, he may have a few different ideas — about life, love, and even a decaying old villa.
“His initial determination — to save his daughter from making what he believes would be a huge mistake in purchasing property in Italy — turns out to be a sort of second chance at happiness for Eric, in so many ways,” Foley tells Tudum.

Brooke Shields’ childhood success story rings as a cautionary tale because, throughout that time, the former child star was heavily se*ualized. Although she had started modeling at just 11 months old, her life took a drastic turn when she was made to pose naked for Playboy at just 10 years old.

Things went even more haywire when the actress starred in Pretty Baby as a child pr*stitute. A recent TikTok trend dragged those dark days back into the light after Brooke Shields herself pointed it out effectively starting a public discourse on the matter.
To make matters worse, the ones making these decisions for the former child star were none but her mother. She also controlled Shields’ career well into her adulthood, until the actress broke free from her in a swift but powerful move.

Brooke Shields has been charming the audience since the 70s with her shining movie career. Although she had been modeling since childhood, her first taste of fame came when she was just 12 years old with Pretty Baby.

Admittedly, being a teenager in such a testing industry had been hard, but she managed to persevere through it all with great success. However, her penchant to charm others continued throughout her career.
According to her, this was the very reason behind her injury on the set of Friends in the 90s when she tried to pull a prank on none other than the Og prankster Matthew Perry.
Brooke Shields wanted the Friends cast to like her
Brooke Shields appeared in the blockbuster hit sitcom Friends in 1996. The series started airing just a couple of years prior, but its success was soaring by then.

Tom Cruise is no stranger to controversies and is in fact one of the most controversial people in the film industry today. Although he is a prolific actor and an even better action hero, his life outside the film industry and public opinions have left fans feeling alienated and shocked, to say the least.
A member and follower of the Church of Scientology, over the years there have been more than a few instances where Cruise’s eccentric behavior and opinions caused a huge uproar among fans and critics.

While one example is his infamous interview in 1999 on Late Show with David Letterman, his most controversial moment was when he publicly criticized actress Brooke Shields for her use of antidepressants to treat postpartum depression.

The nominations have been revealed for the 2025 GLAAD Media Awards, and one critically acclaimed LGBTQ+ film is notably absent from the pack of nominees.
The annual awards ceremony will return for a 36th year in 2025. According to GLAAD, it’s goal is to “recognize and honor fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the LGBTQ community in an ever-expanding and media landscape.”
On Wednesday (January 22), the organization revealed the crop of nominees that would be honored at the ceremony. While projects such as Wicked and Queer were notably featured, Netflix’s Emilia Perez was left off the list.
The snub comes after GLAAD declared that the movie, which stars Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez and trans actress Karla Sofia Gascon, was “not good trans representation” in a November 2024 essay. The story included reviews from transgender film critics and noted that “inauthentic portrayals of trans people are offensive and even dangerous.”

Scott Foley (“Scandal”) has traded Washington, D.C. for Italy.
Foley leads Netflix rom-com “La Dolce Villa” as Eric, a successful businessman who travels to Italy to stop his daydreaming daughter from restoring a crumbling villa. Per the logline, “Italy, however, has different plans for him as it delivers on its legendary promise of beauty, magic, and romance.”
Violante Placido and Giuseppe Futia also star.
Mark Waters directs. Robyn Snyder and Deborah Evans produce the film, with writers Elizabeth Hackett and Hilary Galanoy executive producing. Hackett and Galanoy previously penned “A Perfect Pairing” and “Falling Inn Love.”
The feature filmed in Rome, eastern Lazio, and Tuscany, with the interiors of the villa built at Cinecittá Studios in Rome. The exteriors were shot in eastern Lazio at Torrino del Gelsi.
Foley told Tudum that his character arc leads to his own discovery.

Netflix's The Merry Gentlemen and Mother of the Bride have three things in common they premiered in 2024, feature Chad Michael Murray, and weren't well received among critics and audiences alike. While the reception of both films is quite disappointing, the good news is that Murray's next movie (a long-awaited Disney sequel starring Lindsay Lohan) will likely be a hit given its hype and precedent. T’is the season — for male strippers? Yes, actually. Yes indeed.
Netflix’s new Christmas movie “The Merry Gentlemen” is now streaming, telling story of a young dancer who comes home to find that her parents’ business — and thus, her whole childhood, essentially — may be going under. So, to help save it, she organizes a Christmas-themed male revue to pull in ticket sales.
The movie features a lot of familiar faces, but perhaps some new ones for you too. So, we’ve got you covered.
Here are all the major players in “The Merry Gentlemen.”
Netflix Ashley (Britt Robertson)
Ashley is a professional dancer, who is unceremoniously fired for being too old (in her 30s). She’s played by “Tomorrowland” and “The Longest Ride” star Britt Robertson. She also starred in “The Space Between Us” and more recently, “The Rookie: Feds,” as well as a few episodes of “The Rookie.

Miranda Cosgrove is teasing a new iCarly project that is currently in the works.
The actress, who originated the role of Carly Shay on the hit Nickelodeon show which initially ran from 2007 to 2012, later reprised her character for the revival, which aired from 2021 to 2023. However, the reboot was canceled after three seasons.
During a recent appearance on The Talk, Cosgrove shared, “I’m not allowed to 100 percent confirm anything yet but I think the fans of the show are going to be super excited because we have something in the works.”
While the Mother of the Bride star wouldn’t confirm what type of project, the idea of a movie was tossed around among hosts Akbar Gbajabiamila, Sheryl Underwood and Natalie Morales. The latter also asked Cosgrove if the upcoming project meant “bringing back old favorites” from the cast.

Chad Michael Murray is getting his freak on for a “Magic Mike”-tinged Netflix holiday rom-com.
The “One Tree Hill,” “A Cinderella Story,” and “Freaky Friday” alum strips down for “The Merry Gentlemen” in a cabaret-style show to save one small town’s beloved theater. Sounds a little like “Magic Mike’s Last Dance” meets Hallmark? Yeah, we thought so too.
Britt Robertson leads the film as a “former big-city dancer” who “decides to stage an all-male, Christmas-themed revue.” Cue Murray’s character, who also realizes that sparks fly with Robertson’s lead even off-stage.
Marla Sokoloff, Beth Broderick, Michael Gross, Maxwell Caulfield, Hector David Jr., Colt Prattes, and Marc Anthony Samuel co-star. Peter Sullivan directs from a script by actress Sokoloff, who also has starred in and directed Lifetime films like “Christmas Hotel” and “Blending Christmas.”
“The Merry Gentlemen” is produced by Jeffrey Schenck, Barry Barnholtz, Brian Nolan, and Peter Sullivan.

NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock had a big July and a massive August thanks almost exclusively to the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. Netflix had an equally massive January-to-June, in part because of all NBCUniversal’s animated movies available on the streamer.
In case you’ve been living under a mountain of other Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, on Thursday, September 19, Netflix shared more than 16,000 lines of its viewership data from the first half of 2024. It lists every show or movie watched on Netflix around the globe, how many views each had, and for how many hours they were watched. Light reading material for us.
Twice a year, there are endless takeaways from Netflix’s data dump. One of the big ones from this set was just how dominant NBCUniversal’s animated films are — only not on NBCUniversal’s own streaming platform, Peacock.

It's become something of a Ryan Murphy fall on the small screen. The prolific producer who's brought us such generation-defining hits as Popular, Nip/Tuck, Glee, and American Horror Story has debuted quite a bit of new content this fall on Netflix and beyond.
First up, American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez made its premiere on FX and Hulu on Sept. 17, which led right into the Sept. 19 premiere of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story on Netflix. Since they arrived, both shows have been generating headlines, with Monsters rising to the peak of Netflix's most popular shows ranking and creating a lot of conversation online.
Next on Murphy's continued domination of television this season, two high-profile shows arrive on the same exact week. The brand-new horror series Grotesquerie will send a chill down your spine the day before the new procedural drama Doctor Odyssey sets sail. But where can...

The best Rachael Harris movies and TV shows tell a story of a solid actor who's been consistently delivering strong performances since her career began in the late 1980s. Born in Ohio, Rachael Harris began performing at an early age, acting in plays while attending Otterbein College. It was here that, thanks to some advice from one of her professors, she learned that her style of performance was much more suited to comedy than drama, and this shaped her approach to many of her roles over the following years.
Rachael Harris first appeared on-screen in 1992's Treehouse Trolls, though it was appearing in an episode of Star Trek: Voyager and landing a recurring role in Sister, Sister in 1997 that truly saw her career take off. Since then, she's appeared in the likes of Lucifer, Suits, The Hangover, and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies. However, these are only some...

Are there millions of people hate-watching movies on Netflix?
Two of the streaming giant’s original films, sci-fi feature “Atlas,” starring Jennifer Lopez, and romantic comedy “Mother of the Bride,” starring Brooke Shields and Miranda Cosgrove, garnered notably poor reviews and audience-rating scores. But both were among the most popular films on Netflix in the first half of 2024, according to the company’s latest massive data report: “Atlas” registered 77.1 million views worldwide and “Mother of the Bride” had 77.7 million.
Those metrics put both in the top 10 of Netflix’s most-watched movies for the first six months of the year — all the more remarkable because the report measured less than two months of viewing for those two titles: “Mother of the Bride” debuted May 9 and “Atlas” dropped on May 24.

It's been over 20 years since One Tree Hill made its television premiere on The WB and over 10 years since the beloved series came to an end on The CW. Time has only made fans adore the show more and more, and there's finally some good news on the potential future of the series: Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton Morgan are working on a sequel series at Netflix!
Before we get too excited about the prospect of returning to Tree Hill two decades later, it's the perfect time to look back at original cast members and celebrate their generation-defining series. One Tree Hill helped launch the careers of Chad Michael Murray, Hilarie Burton Morgan, Sophia Bush, James Lafferty, and Bethany Joy Lenz, and they're all still beloved today.
If you're diving back into your millionth rewatch of One Tree Hill (no judgment!), you're probably wondering how old the actors were compared to their teen characters.

Wilson Cruz starred as Dr. Hugh Culber for all 5 seasons of Star Trek: Discovery, and he made Star Trek history as part of the franchise's first gay couple with Anthony Rapp's Commander Paul Stamets. Star Trek: Discovery - The Final Season and Star Trek: Discovery - The Complete Series are available on DVD and Blu-ray.
Dr. Hugh Culber's Star Trek: Discovery story is epic. Culber actually died in Star Trek: Discovery season 1 but, after his resurrection in season 2, Culber grappled with the meaning of life. In later seasons of Star Trek: Discovery, Culber embraced a new role as counselor to the USS Discovery's crew, developing even deeper relationships with the show's characters. Star Trek: Discovery season 5 challenged Wilson Cruz's acting chops even more, as Dr. Culber underwent a profound spiritual awakening.

With 1 billion minutes watched, “Bridgerton” Season 3 was the most-watched streaming original of the week of June 21-27, which marked the final four episodes’ second full week of availability. The achievement was unsurprising, as the Shonda Rhimes-produced Netflix drama has been dominating Luminate’s charts (as well as Nielsen’s and Netflix’s own) since the first four episodes of Season 3 were released in May. Once again, both previous seasons continued to chart, with Season 2 in eighth place and Season 1 at the bottom.
Making a strong debut on the chart was “America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders,” a Netflix docuseries that was watched for 687 million minutes in its first full week of availability. It was followed by another docuseries, “Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini,” which his 509 million minutes watched in the same amount of time.

“Bridgerton” had a predictably massive week on Luminate’s weekly viewership rankings, landing as the No. 1 streaming original for June 14-20. In the first full week of availability of Season 3’s last four episodes, the season was watched for 3.1 billion minutes. The earlier seasons of “Bridgerton” continued to see solid viewership, with Season 1 landing at No. 4 with 297.8 million minutes watched and Season 2 taking No. 9 with 255.6 million minutes watched.
“The Boys” was the second-most-watched title of the week following its Season 4 debut. The June 14-20 window marked the first full week of availability of the season’s first three episodes plus the first day of availability for Episode 4; during that time, the season was watched for a strong 744.4 million minutes. Episodes will continue to release weekly on Thursdays, so it’s likely that the Amazon superhero series will remain on the chart for weeks to come.
Season 2 of Netflix’s “Perfect Match” rose from No.

Season three of Bridgerton ruled the streaming charts for a second straight week, holding onto most of its premiere week audience and racking up more than 2 billion minutes of viewing.
A pair of sci-fi films, Jennifer Lopez’s Atlas and Dune: Part Two, also had pretty strong showings in the week of May 20-26, and Max’s Hacks and Hulu’s Under the Bridge entered the rankings as they neared the end of their seasons.
Bridgerton had 2.19 billion minutes of viewing for the week, down just 21 percent from 2.76 billion for the previous seven days. The period drama had almost double the viewing time of the second-place show, Grey’s Anatomy (1.1 billion) — which, like Bridgerton, comes from mega-producer Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland.
Kids’ favorite Bluey (1.07 billion minutes) crossed the billion-minute threshold for the 20th time in 21 measured weeks so far this year.

The webs of romance in Bridgerton easily captured the top spot among all streaming titles for the show’s return. Theatrical flop Madame Web, meanwhile, found a promising start to its streaming life.
Bridgerton drew 2.76 billion minutes of viewing time in the United States for the week of May 13-19. The first half of season three premiered on May 16, and Nielsen says those four episodes accounted for 70 percent of the total, or about 1.93 billion minutes — which would still have ranked No. 1 by a wide margin. The remaining 827 million minutes came from the first two seasons.
Madame Web — whose mom was in the Amazon researching spiders right before she died — premiered May 14 on Netflix and racked up 1.16 billion minutes of viewing for the week. That’s equivalent to about 10 million complete showings of the movie, which is part of Sony’s Spider-Man universe and was derided by both critics and audiences...

Real Steel, an underrated sci-fi film, is now a global hit on Netflix with millions of views and hours watched. Despite initial perceptions, the movie delivers gripping action, character development, and emotional depth. The film, based on a short story by Richard Matheson, exceeded expectations and may lead to a potential TV show or sequel.

We’re not making this true story up: “Baby Reindeer” has officially booted “The Witcher” from Netflix’s Most Popular TV (English) list.
The Richard Gadd limited series has amassed 84.5 million views globally since its release on April 11. Season 1 of “The Witcher” snagged 83 million views over its first 91 days of availability, which is Netflix’s cutoff for the all-time Top 10 list. “Baby Reindeer” has about a month left, so expect it to climb higher in the ranks. “Bridgerton: Season 2,” “Stranger Things 3,” “Fool Me Once,” and “The Night Agent”: Donny and Martha are coming for you.
Yet “Baby Reindeer” is no longer making Netflix’s weekly Top 10. Just last week it spent its eighth week on the Top 10 weekly list, clocking in at No. 10, while “Bridgerton: Season 2” has spent a whopping 19 weeks in the Top 10 as the third season of “Bridgerton” has inspired a lot of rewatches.
