Halloween seems to be coming a bit late to the streaming service AMC+ (or early if you are one of those who counts down the days), with two very enchanting series entering their second seasons, Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale and Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches. For those subscribed to only AMC+, the second season of the Alexandra Daddario-led dark drama is the only series making its debut or returning in January 2025. Sundance Now is seeing the best addition of new TV content for the month, with titles like White Lies and The Newsreader continuing their season through the month and joining the previously mentioned Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale.
Other series under the AMC+ banner that people can look forward to in the new year are Allblk's Conspirators, a follow-up to the hit series Double Cross; the BBC continuing its heralded series with Planet Earth: Asia, and the second season...

In the shadowy tunnels of White Lies, we meet Edie Hansen, an investigative journalist entangled in a web of familial betrayal and societal facades.
The murder of her estranged brother and sister-in-law becomes more than just a mystery; it is a mirror reflecting the fragmented psyche of a family entrenched in privilege and secrets. Detective Forty Bell, a figure troubled by personal problems, emerges as both opponent and reluctant ally, their relationship a tense dance highlighting the fragility of trust amid grief and suspicion.
The narrative begins with a visceral jolt—a peaceful evening is disrupted by violence, plunging the opulent McKenzie estate into a crucible of doubt. Each character is depicted in shades of grey rather than black and white, expressing tremendous existential anxiety as motivations interweave and alliances shift.
As the story progresses through a series of distressing disclosures, we are forced to confront hard truths: What lies...

The winter edition of London Comic Con went down over the past weekend, with guests like Doctor Who's Ncuti Gatwa and Good Omens' Michael Sheen in attendance. Also present were several actors from HBO's Game of Thrones spinoff series House of the Dragon: Clinton Liberty (Addam of Hull), Tom Bennett (Ulf White), Kieran Bew (Hugh Hammer) and Theo Nate.
Liberty, Bennet and Bew play the dragonseeds, peasants who have become dragon-riders after Rhaenyra Targaryen arranged for them to try their luck at mounting the riderless dragons on Dragonstone. (Would that the dozens of other people who took a swing at it had their kind of luck.) Clinton Liberty uploaded a picture of the whole House of the Dragon crew together at the con on his Instagram:

1497, the nonprofit dedicated to advancing artists and filmmakers of South Asian descent, has selected the three mentees for its 2024 Features Lab, providing mentorship, script development, and industry access. IndieWire announces them exclusively below.
The Features Lab returned in person in 2023 after two years of a virtual and hybrid format in the pandemic, taking place at an immersive Malibu retreat and Los Angeles pitch day. For the fourth year, 1497 will again host the Features Lab in Malibu, where mentees will be paired with a pod of four mentors — an established filmmaker, producer, industry rep, and 1497 Features Lab alum — to receive script feedback and career guidance. Mentees will also work with filmmaker, Columbia professor, and veteran script consultant Adrienne Weiss to further develop their scripts, with a particular emphasis on the emotional journey of their stories.

Game of Thrones was famous for its death scenes. Whether it's Ned Stark getting his head chopped off, his wife and son getting betrayed at the Red Wedding, or Margaery and Loras Tyrell blown to bits at the Sept of Baelor, death was always just around the corner for these characters.
The Sept of Baelor explosion is probably my favorite scene from the show. Cersei Lannister didn't just off her rival Margaery and her tormenter the High Sparrow; she also killed her uncle Kevan Lannister and a ton of randos who hadn't hurt her in any way. I didn't like how she suffered basically no consequences for those collateral deaths, but the scene itself was tremendous:
Absolute insanity to this day. I love this scene, but star Natalie Dormer, who played poor doomed blown up Margaery, actually has some misgvings about it, or at least, about the way Margaery went out.

The ending of the series White Lies is totally unexpected. You know how it’s all about solving the murder of Andrew McKenzie, the wealthy construction guy, and his wife Olivia, and how the reporter, Andrew’s sister Edie, and the detective Forty Bell are on the case to solve it? Well, we already know that Andrew’s killer was Morgan Witbooi, the security guard from Bishopscourt. Andrew was in deep financial trouble and asked Morgan to end his life for money to avoid the embarrassment of going bankrupt. Another reason was that the black community, where their future construction work was happening, had become homeless. Even though he was opposed to the construction work, they were turning against him. So he thought that dying was a better option than living with this humiliation. But on the other hand, Olivia was in a coma and ultimately ended up dead the...
