Remaking 1994’s The Crow was always going to be a particularly tricky proposition, and given the recent wave of criticism that has accompanied the release of first-look images and the trailer for the upcoming film, that is certainly proving to be the case.

Not only is the film a beloved mid-90s classic, but it also marks the final appearance of Brandon Lee, whose life was cut tragically short when an on-set sequence with a prop gun during the film’s production killed him at the age of just 28.

As such, the film holds a special significance for many, including its director Alex Proyas, who has repeatedly called for The Crow not to be remade over the last few years.

Grant Page, the larger-than-life Australian stunt performer famous for his jaw-dropping work in films including Mad Max, The Man From Hong Kong and Mad Dog Morgan, has died. He was 85.

Page died Thursday when the car he was driving near his home in Kendall on the coast of New South Wales hit a tree, his son Leroy Page told Daily Mail Australia.

Page worked with director Brian Trenchard-Smith on more than a dozen projects, including The Stuntmen (1973), King Fu Killers (1974), The Man From Hong Kong (1973) — where Page fights martial arts expert Jimmy Wang Yu in scenes using knives, cleavers and meat hooks — Deathcheaters (1976), Stunt Rock (1978) and Hospitals Don’t Burn Down! (1978).

And for the documentary Dangerfreaks (1987), Trenchard-Smith filmed Page standing on a ledge outside the perimeter fence on the observation deck of the Empire State Building in New York.

If you want to see a wild midnight movie, there’s a little-known Australian movie called Stunt Rock, which might blow your mind. Nobody sets out to make a movie that will fail, be it a tiny independent production or the biggest of big blockbusters from a major studio. On the flip side, occasionally arrogance of a sort sets in and there is an element of presumed success with a film, and those projects -- more often than not -- feel doomed to fail. Such was the case with Lionsgate's 2016 big-budget fantasy play "Gods of Egypt," which bombed spectacularly upon its initial release. Yet, lofty ambitions existed as this was eyed as just the first entry in a brand new franchise. Before it all went to hell, that is.

The film, directed by Alex Proyas, cost a whopping $140 million to produce before marketing, putting it firmly in gigantic blockbuster territory. But it made a paltry $31 million in total at the domestic box office and topped out at $150 million worldwide. Per Variety, Lionsgate...

"Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" first hit the airwaves in 1993, and even though that original iteration of Rangers didn't last all that long, the series has remained remarkably enduring. 30 years later, the series has aired nearly 1,000 episodes through its various iterations, has inspired hundreds of issues of comics books, millions in toy sales, and is truly a globally recognized brand with huge staying power. Still, the franchise has never managed to fully crack the code in making the jump to movies.

Two films, the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" movie in 1995 and "Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie," did fine enough by '90s "kids movies based on a show" standards, which were ultimately more about selling toys and copies of the films on VHS.

Davis, Plane is the year’s first major action flick. Action star Gerald Butler plays a commercial pilot who, after his plane is damaged by a lightning strike, makes an emergency landing on the war-torn Island of Jolo in the Philippines. Soon after, most of his passengers are taken hostage by heavily armed rebels, forcing him and a fugitive on board, played by Luke Cage's Mike Colter, to attempt a daring rescue mission. The Plane trailer went semi-viral online when it was released late last year because of its hilariously generic title, coupled with the ironic fact that most of the movie takes place on the ground.

Alex Proyas has been Mia from the feature film scene since 2016's "Gods of Egypt," which fizzled at the box office despite its large scale and impressive cast, and that's not great. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has signed on to star opposite Jennifer Garner in the Apple limited series “The Last Thing He Told Me,” Variety has learned.

The series is based on the Laura Dave novel of the same name. It was previously announced that Angourie Rice will also star in the series.

The show follows Hannah (Garner), a woman who forms an unexpected relationship with her sixteen-year-old stepdaughter Bailey (Rice) while searching for the truth about why her husband has mysteriously disappeared. Coster-Waldau will star as Owen, Hannah’s husband.

Coster-Waldau is best known for playing Jaime Lannister in the megahit HBO series “Game of Thrones,” for which he earned an Emmy nominations in both 2018 and 2019. On the film side, he recently co-wrote and starred in the drama “Against the Ice,” while he has previously starred in features such as “Shot Caller,” “Gods of Egypt,” “A Thousand Times Good Night,” and “Oblivion.

It’s become something of a running gag on the internet that “Morbius” isn’t really a movie. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau will star in and executive produce a series adaptation of the Christina Clancy novel “The Second Home” currently in the works at Sony’s TriStar TV, Variety has learned.

The story follows the Gordon and Shaw families beyond a fateful summer on Cape Cod. Told through two generations, the story explores how a devastating secret can derail young love, tear apart families, and change the fate of countless individuals forever if they let it. “The Second Home” was Clancy’s debut novel. It was published by St. Martin’s Press in June 2020.

No network or writer is currently attached to the series, but Coster-Waldau will executive produce along with his producing partners Joe Derrick and Jeffrey Chassen under their Ill Kippers banner.

Should the series move forward, it would mark Coster-Waldau’s first television role since “Game of Thrones” ended in 2019. He famously played Jaime Lannister throughout the megahit HBO show’s eight-season run.

Hollywood star Gerard Butler admits being a control freak. Butler was serving as a producer for the film, Greenland, when he enjoyed the chance to have a more hands-on role in the project.

"I'm a control freak! As an actor, when you're coming up, you beg for roles, and you're lucky to get one and then you suddenly find yourself in a position where movies are being made, because you're involved," Butler told Total Film magazine, femalefirst.co.uk reported.

Sony are once again hedging their bets on an interconnected superhero franchise, despite the relative failure of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 already causing them to abandon the idea once before and strike the unprecedented licensing agreement with Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios, which led to Tom Holland’s Peter Parker becoming an integral part of the McU.

This time they’ll have to do it without their most marketable asset, because while details of the new deal signed last summer haven’t been made clear, most people are operating under the impression that Marvel will handle solo Spidey movies, but Holland will show up in the Spumc from time to time.

Venom was a monster hit that raked in over $850 million at the box office, and this summer’s sequel Let There Be Carnage is poised to do big business, but there are no guarantees that Morbius will experience a similar level of success.
