After a years-long hiatus (“Euphoria” has been off the air since Season 2 concluded in February 2022), “Challengers” star and “Euphoria” executive producer Zendaya was frustrated by Levinson opting instead to focus on his controversial series “The Idol” rather than the long-awaited third season of “Euphoria.”
In a new exposé published in The Hollywood Reporter, a source claimed that the allegations of a toxic workplace during “The Idol” production reshoots affected Zendaya, who was urged by fans to distance herself from Levinson. “Her image is pristine,” an unnamed executive said. “And fans were turning against Sam.”
Additionally, Zendaya was reportedly frustrated by the delay in “Euphoria” Season 3 scripts from Levinson as he was in production on “The Idol.” Zendaya allegedly had a meeting with HBO executives Casey Bloys and Francesca Orsi to ask why the network was allowing Levinson...

This April sees Zendaya cross a milestone it honestly feels like she should have reached ages ago: a legitimate leading role in a theatrical film. The actor has been one of the biggest stars of Generation Z and a much hyped starlet for years now, and yet a quick glance at her Wikipedia page reveals a shockingly short resume.
The Oakland born star’s adult film career, after a childhood in the Disney Channel machine leading sitcoms like “Shake It Up” and “Kc Undercover,” really only started in 2017, with a brief supporting turn in Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” Opposite her eventual real-life boyfriend Tom Holland, she only had a scant 10 minutes or so of screentime as the sarcastic teen Mj — hardly a star is born moment, despite what the advertising for the film would have you expect.
Zendaya would reprise her role in future Spider-Man films, and her screentime increased with each installment.

The John Wick: Chapter 4 soundtrack is a mix of Edm, classical music, and rock n' roll covers that perfectly compliment the action. The soundtrack to John Wick 4 is available on all reputable streaming platforms, such as Spotify and Apple Music. John Wick 4 star Rina Sawayama created an exclusive track for the film.
The John Wick: Chapter 4 soundtrack is full of great songs, scoring the visceral, trigger-happy action with thumping Edm tracks and instantly recognizable rock ‘n’ roll covers. With a blood-drenched, globetrotting adventure involving exploding bullets, dueling pistols, and lots and lots of stairs, John Wick: Chapter 4 is even bigger, bolder, and more brutal than any of its predecessors. Putting together the John Wick 4 soundtrack is a unique musical challenge, because the music has to match the intensity of the action on-screen.

In Hollywood, actors often find themselves trapped in a loop of similar characters. But Kirsten Dunst isn’t one to be confined by expectations. She’s not afraid to break away from what people expect of her, and that’s what makes her stand out in the film industry.

After years of battling typecasting, particularly following a critically acclaimed performance, Dunst took control of her career. The actress, who started her career at just the mere age of six, stepped away from the “depressed girl” roles and jumped into all sorts of different projects.

Plot: Behind the scenes of the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special.
Review: Young people today have no idea how hard it was to see the Star Wars Holiday Special in the days before the internet. I remember only being aware of the Holiday Special in the mid-nineties thanks to the occasional mention in Starlog or Sci-Fi Universe. In about 1996, some friends and I attended a Star Wars Convention in Montreal, and the big attraction was that they would be screening the Holiday Special in full on someone’s bootleg tape. My pals and I were so excited, but after all the years of reading about it and dreaming of what it could be like, we walked out after ten minutes. Nine minutes of unsubtitled Wookie was enough to turn us off, and to this day, I don’t think I’ve ever actually sat through the whole thing.

Following the bombshell twists in the Gen V season 1 finale, a new theory for The Boys season 4 would make Billy Butcher’s anti-supe vigilante squad more powerful than he ever imagined. The Gen V finale – season 1, episode 8, “Guardians of Godolkin” – saw Homelander arrive on the campus to put a stop to the anti-Vought protests. He chastised Marie Moreau for “attacking her own kind” before hitting her with an eye-laser blast. Later, Marie woke up to find herself in an isolated hospital room with Jordan, Emma, and Andre, who had all been publicly blamed for Sam and Cate’s crimes while Sam and Cate were celebrated as heroes.
In a mid-credits scene, Billy Butcher discovered the ruins of “The Woods” and dropped one of his iconic C-bombs. This seems to be setting up a crossover with Gen V in The Boys season 4. The series’ creators have already confirmed that the events...

With her latest film Priscilla earning Sofia Coppola some of the best reviews of her career, the Oscar winner is undoubtedly proud. But one person who might want Sofia to reevaluate it in the future is her father, Francis Ford Coppola, who knows a thing or two (or more…) about revisiting his works.
Speaking with Rolling Stone ahead of the release of Priscilla – which sits at a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, behind only 2003’s Lost in Translation – Sofia Coppola said she is continuously nagged by Francis Ford about tweaking her movies long after their release. “My dad loves to recut his movies, and he’s always saying, ‘You can do that!’…I don’t have any desire to. I feel like they are what they are, even with their baby fat and awkwardness, that’s what I was thinking about at that time.”

Francis Ford Coppola has always viewed his films as living pieces of art, and continues to tinker with many of his masterpieces decades after their theatrical bows. He famously altered “Apocalypse Now” twice, revising the original theatrical cut with 2001’s “Apocalypse Now Redux” and 2019’s “Apocalypse Now: The Final Cut.” He also reworked his polarizing “The Godfather Part III” to reframe it as an epilogue. And he spent $500,000 to re-cut “The Cotton Club” for a restoration that premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in 2017.
Sofia Coppola followed in her father’s footsteps as a celebrated auteur, but don’t expect “Lost in Translation Redux” any time soon.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Sofia Coppola was asked about her father’s passion for continuously revising his work. She revealed that he has encouraged her to feel empowered to do the same with her own films, but she isn’t interested in changing them.

Priscilla Presley was trying on clothes in the fitting room of a Beverly Hills boutique when she overheard two women whispering about her. It was the mid-1960s, and Priscilla — who had met Elvis in 1959 when she was 14 and he was 24 — in some people’s eyes was living out the fantasy of every teenage girl in America. She was staying at Graceland while finishing high school, wearing sophisticated clothes and dramatic makeup, and traveling on the arm of one of the most charismatic men in history. Her life was thrilling — and often lonely. “I heard the girl saying, ‘You know who that is? She explained, “I was really, really done with this business right before I read the script for ‘Ray.’ I was really, really done with this business right before I read the script for ‘The Last King of Scotland.’ I was entirely done with this business before reading the script for ‘Scandal.’ This is what happens again and again.”

Modern period pieces use anachronism and modern touches to engage a contemporary audience and make historical figures more relatable. Creative liberties taken with historical accuracy in film and TV shows can make history fascinating and more inclusive. Recent shows like "Bridgerton" have revived the genre of anachronistic historical epics, incorporating modern elements while staying true to their playful tone.
The best modern period piece movies and TV shows may stretch the truth a bit, but in the process, they often find the real heart of the story. Unlike their other historical counterparts that usually strive for the most accurate representation of the facts, modern period pieces use anachronism and playful modern touches to keep the story moving and engage a contemporary audience. Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is running as a Republican candidate in the 2024 presidential race and appeared Wednesday on Fox News, taking aim at the likely Democratic incumbent and current president, Joe Biden.
Christie targeted Biden even after “America’s Newsroom” ran graphics and discussed the fact Donald Trump is not only handily polling ahead of Ron DeSantis but leading a pack of also-rans that include Christie, who was shown as polling at a meager 2% in the Republican race.
“Record inflation, botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, sending the country into an educational tailspin because we’re excluding parents from their children’s education,” Christie reeled off, taking a page out of the DeSantis playbook before show host Bill Hemmer interrupted.
“The border,” Hemmer said, blankly.

A battle took place at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday evening between a movie and a lot of stuff that didn’t have much to do with the movie.
And the movie, “Jeanne du Barry,” just wasn’t strong enough to put up much of a fight.
So the 2023 Cannes opening night won’t be remembered as the night when writer-director-actress Maïwenn put a fresh spin on French royalty with her story of King Louis Xv’s most celebrated and scandalous courtesan. Instead, it’ll be the night when various protesters managed to turn the opening of Cannes into a referendum on whether Johnny Depp should be cast in movies in the aftermath of his bitter court case with Amber Heard (where the jury mostly sided with him) and why Maïwenn spit on a French journalist in a restaurant recently.

“The impertinence!” scream the courtiers of Louis Xv when his newly recruited mistress, Countess Jeanne du Barry, has the audacity to look him in the eye. It is just the latest in a long line of taboo-breaking outrages that surround the affair between the king and the commoner: She doesn’t have a title! She turns her back on him! She dresses like a man! For this reason alone, it’s easy to see why Maïwenn, one of France’s more controversial directors, saw fit to topline herself with Johnny Depp in a film that’s entirely about class and status and whose leading characters are bent on committing reputational suicide.
Jeanne du Barry also flexes the specifically French cultural views surrounding the topic of sexual impropriety. While the Cannes Film Festival continues to appear to be wilfully deaf to the topic of cancel culture, Maïwenn’s latest feature — which...

Director Stephen Williams’ new film, Chevalier, starts with a concert that shatters any preconceived notions audiences might have about classical music. Staid and unexciting, it is not, when Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Joseph Prowen) is introduced at the height of his fame, on tour and performing in Paris. The audience loves the ebbs and the flows of the sound from the orchestra, and at the end of the concert, Mozart asks the audience for requests. It is then that a Black man who we later find out is Joseph Bologne (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) stands up and asks to play onstage with Mozart. Suddenly, via Bologne’s rendition, one of Mozart’s own compositions is filled with a new energy and flair. There’s dueling violins and sensational solos as Mozart tries to keep up with Bologne. But he cannot. Bologne’s confidence is more than youthful egotism; he is clearly a...

“It’s so overwhelming,” she told the magazine of the fan response to her Netflix hit, Stranger Things. “I don’t know what it’s like for really famous people… I keep hearing that people are dressing up like me [as her character Joyce]. I’m like, ‘What?’”

The Ninth Annual Robert Classic French Film Festival — co-presented by Cinema St. Louis and the Webster University Film Series started last Friday and continues the next two weekends — The Classic French Film Festival celebrates St. Louis’ Gallic heritage and France’s cinematic legacy. The featured films span the decades from the 1920s through the mid-1990s, offering a revealing overview of French cinema.
All films are screened at Webster University’s Moore Auditorium (470 East Lockwood).
The fest is annually highlighted by significant restorations, which this year includes films by two New Wave masters: Jacques Rivette’s first feature, “Paris Belongs to Us,” and François Truffaut’s cinephilic love letter, “Day for Night.” The fest also provides one of the few opportunities available in St. Louis to see films projected the old-school, time-honored way, with both Alain Resnais’ “Last Year at Marienbad” and Robert Bresson’s “Au hasard Balthazar” screening from 35mm prints.

Even more traditional, we also offer a silent film with live music, and audiences are sure to delight in the Poor People of Paris...

IndieWire’s Liz Shannon Miller, Hanh Nguyen and Ben Travers trade notes on how recent abortion storylines have been depicted on TV, how that reflects the current political climate and how it may change under a Trump presidency.
Hanh: A trio of comedies recently tackled abortion in an understated, matter-of-fact way that almost flew under the radar. On “Jane the Virgin’s” second episode of the season, we learn after-the-fact that Xiomara (Andrea Navedo) had an abortion off-screen, between episodes. Her mother Alba (Ivonne Coll) gets angry when she finds out, but eventually decides to respect her daughter’s decision.
Over on Fxx’s “You’re the Worst,” Lindsay (Kether Donohue) had impregnated herself with a “turkey baster” baby intending to try and rebuild her life with her on-again/off-again husband, but once she realized that a family with Paul wasn’t what she wanted, she had an abortion. The procedure is treated very casually,...
