Disney+ has ordered to pilot a series based on the acclaimed book from Louis Sachar, “Holes,” an individual with knowledge of the project told IndieWire. The project will be a new take on the story, this time gender-swapping the characters to make it about a teen girl sent to the desert to toil away in the dirt.

The Disney+ series will be a project of 20th Century Television’s and will be executive produced by Drew Goddard via his Goddard Textiles banner, with Alina Mankin serving as writer and EP and Liz Phang serving as showrunner and EP.

No cast was announced.

Sachar’s “Holes” from 1998 was previously adapted into a 2003 Disney film starring Shia Labeouf, which made $71 million worldwide against a $20 million budget. The potential show would be based on the book of the same name by Louis Sachar, which was previously adapted into a 2003 feature film by Walt Disney Pictures.

Alina Mankin serves as writer and executive producer, while Liz Phang will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Drew Goddard will executive produce via Goddard Textiles along with Sarah Esberg. Walden Media, which produced the film, is also producing the pilot and has been attempting to get a series version of the book off the ground for some time, according to sources. Mike Medavoy will executive produce with rights holder Shamrock executive producing. Andrea Massaro of Goddard Textiles is a co-executive producer. 20th Television, where Goddard is based, is the studio.

Adam Pally is among those in Hollywood remembering late director Jeff Baena, who died Friday by suicide at the age of 47.

Baena was a writer-director who helmed such indie films as Life After Beth, The Little Hours, Horse Girl and Spin Me Round, often working with wife Aubrey Plaza. The pair married in 2020 after being together for 10 years.

Pally and others who knew Baena have taken to social media over the weekend to share their memories of him, after the news of his death broke early Saturday morning.

On Instagram Sunday, Pally wrote, “Jeff Baena was a sweet, Jewish boy from Miami. He was a collaborator, a mentor, the scrappiest basketball player with the ugliest jump shot you ever saw.”

The actor, who starred alongside Plaza in Baena’s films Joshy, The Little Hours and Life After Beth, called Baena a “talented director with impeccable taste and vision.”

CBS has handed a pilot order to Zarna, a multi-camera comedy starring stand-up comedian Zarna Garg. The project, written by Garg and The Big C creator Darlene Hunt, comes from Mindy Kaling‘s Kaling International, Kevin Hart‘s Hartbeat and Warner Bros. Television, where Kaling International is under an overall deal.

Zarna has been on a priority track since landing at CBS for development in September in a competitive situation. The actress explained that she relates to The Office character, played by Steve Carell, after welcoming three children during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show on Friday. Kaling is a mother to daughters Katherine and Anne and son Spencer.

Kaling recalled working on the episode in which Scott “was on a child TV show, and they asked him, ‘What do you wanna do when you grow up?’ And he says, ‘I wanna have 100 kids, so I can have 100 friends, and no one can say no to being my friend.’”

Kaling, who was a writer and actor on the NBC sitcom, added that she wrote the episode when she was 25 and “so far from thinking of having kids.

“I thought, ‘Oh, that’s like, so funny and sad that like a grown-up would want to have kids to have friends,’” she explained.

“Ghosts” star Rose McIver will sit behind the camera to direct an episode of the hit CBS comedy, it was revealed Saturday during the show’s panel at New York Comic-Con. The episode, which starts filming soon and will air in 2025, reps the first time McIver will helm a TV series.

On “Ghosts,” McIver plays Sam, who inherits an old, haunted mansion that she and husband Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) turn into a bed and breakfast — much to the chagrin of the ghosts that Sam can communicate with. This year, on the show’s one-hour Christmas special, viewers will get to meet Jay’s parents for the first time.

Ghosts premiered its fourth season on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 8:30 Pm on CBS. The series stars McIver as Sam and Ambudkar as Jay, a couple who inherit a rundown mansion in upstate New York that they decide to convert into a bed and breakfast. After a near-death experience, Sam suddenly can see the ghosts that inhabit the house.

Emmy nominee Meghann Fahy, breakout star of White Lotus and The Perfect Couple, plays Violet, a widowed mother on her first date in years, who arrives at an upscale restaurant where she is relieved that her date, Henry (It Ends with Us’ Brandon Sklenar) is more charming and handsome than she expected. But their chemistry begins to curdle as Violet begins being irritated and then terrorized by a series of anonymous drops to her phone.

Over the past two seasons, Mindy [Kaling] and Charlie [Grandy] have created an incredibly fun and fresh world within the iconic whodunit franchise. While we won’t be moving forward with another season of the series, we thank them for their compelling coming-of-age storytelling, unrivaled clues, and hilarious hijinks.

Charlie Grandy developed and created Velma. The show was based on the character Velma Dinkley from the Scooby-Doo franchise, and it told Velma's origin story, focusing on her life before she became part of the Mystery Inc. gang. The other human members that would eventually make up Mystery Inc. were also in the show, such as Fred, Shaggy (Norville), and Daphne.

TV producer Kalen Gorman died Tuesday after a battle with breast cancer at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, her publicist confirmed to Variety. She was 59.

Born in Toronto and raised in Los Angeles, Gorman’s career began assisting Pat Kingsley at Pmk Public Relations before she transitioned into television, taking on segment producer roles at E! Entertainment Television and Access Hollywood.

She was known for creating the behind-the-scenes content for Ryan Murphy’s hit series “Glee” while working at Fox Broadcasting. Her videos received millions of views on YouTube becoming fan-favorite interviews with the stars. An integral part of the “Glee” marketing campaign, Gorman’s warm, inviting energy helped the actors feel comfortable and safe to share candidly during these interviews. While at Fox she also collaborated in popular shows like “Bones,” “The Mindy Project” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” She also produced and directed more behind-the-scenes content for many other shows,...

Kalen Gorman, who produced interviews and other behind-the-scenes content for Ryan Murphy’s Glee, entertainment that generated hundreds of millions of views on YouTube and other platforms, has died. She was 59.

Gorman died Tuesday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after a battle with breast cancer, a publicist announced.

Gorman collaborated with actors, hosts, show creators, production crew and others on scripted and improvised marketing shoots that made for more than 300 pieces of content for every episode of Glee during its first five seasons (2009-14).

“I always thought, God, for the fans who love this show, this is what they want to see,” she said in an interview in April. “They want to feel like they’re part of it.”

Gorman later produced behind-the-scenes content for the 2017 first season of Murphy’s anthology series Feud, starring Susan Sarandon as Bette Davis and Jessica Lange as Joan Crawford, and for Showtime’s Homeland.

Most audiences would recognize Max Minghella from his stellar turn in Hulu’s “Handmaid’s Tale” or “The Mindy Project” or any number of acting gigs in film and TV. But he’s also a writer/producer/director, and with “Shell,” he not only makes his sophomore directorial feature effort, he also reunites with “Tale” topliner Elisabeth Moss.

She’s vulnerable and her agents tell her to try the Shell clinic, which promises eternal youth and beauty. The treatment works and she is befriended by Shell founder Zoe (Kate Hudson). But weird, gross stuff starts to happen with Sam’s skin, people start disappearing and the authorities and thugs both start chasing Sam.

Kaling wrote 24 episodes of the 117 episodes created for the six-season series. In 2020, Kaling released the critically acclaimed series, Never Have I Ever for Netflix.

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? fans are buzzing after the latest episode featuring the season’s first official winners of the top prize.

The season premiered weeks ago on ABC and introduced a change to the format. Instead of one contestant playing the game, there are two.

In addition, it’s a pair of celebrity contestants who are typically good friends, colleagues, or family members, such as Jack and Kelly Osbourne.

While previous Millionaire formats had everyday contestants playing the game to leave with some significant money, the celebrity pairs are playing for money that goes to charities of their choice.

During the Wednesday, August 14 episode, viewers saw another pair of celebs attempt to climb up the board and win the $1 million.

One of the two teams did just that, which was the first time it had happened on the game show under the new team format.

In their new roles at 20th TV, which is part of Disney Television Studios, Longnecker will report to Carol Turner, head of Production for Disney Entertainment Television, while Countee will report to Carolyn Cassidy, executive vice president of development at 20th TV.

“I’ve admired the undeniable slate of television and the deep bench of talent at 20th Television for a long time, and I could not be more grateful for the opportunity to join Carol and her top-notch team,” Longnecker said. “I’m incredibly proud of my former team and all that we accomplished together, and look forward to my next chapter in television with the excellent group of executives at the studio.”
