The “Big Bang Theory” spinoff series in the works at Max has found its first three cast members.

Variety has learned from sources that Brian Posehn, Lauren Lapkus, and Kevin Sussman will all star in the potential show, which was originally announced as being in development at Max back in April 2023. Exact plot details remain under wraps but all three actors would reprise their roles from the original series.

The show remains in development and has not been greenlit to series at this time, with Posehn, Sussman, and Lapkus currently under talent holding deals. “Big Bang Theory” co-creator Chuck Lorre is executive producing the new project via Chuck Lorre Productions, with Lorre currently under an overall deal with series studio Warner Bros. Television.

Whitney Cummings has signed with Brillstein Entertainment Partners for representation, Variety has learned exclusively. She continues to be repped by UTA and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Cummings is a highly-accomplished stand up comedian in addition to writing, acting, producing, directing, and podcasting. Her first stand up special, “Money Shot,” premiered on Comedy Central back in 2010. Her second one-hour special, “I Love You,” followed in 2014, also on Comedy Central. Her first HBO special dropped in 2016, titled “I’m Your Girlfriend,” with Cummings releasing the Netflix specials “Can I Touch It? and “Jokes” in 2019 and 2022 respectively. She released her most recent special, “Mouthy,” via OnlyFans in 2023. She is currently on the road on her “Big Baby” comedy tour.

Sony Pictures Television is widening the creative circle — by a lot — in its comedy division.

The studio has signed first-look deals with nine writers and comics — Scott Aukerman, Karen Chee, Shaun Diston, Chris Garcia, Chris Gethard, Lisa Gilroy, Lacey Jeka, Julie Klausner and Alok Vaid-Menon. They’ll all work on developing new comedy series projects and potentially collaborate with other writers and producers who have deals at Sony.

Lauren Stein, head of creative at Sony Pictures TV, and Colin Davis, executive vp comedy development, said the deals are part of an effort at the studio to bring in what Davis calls a “spectrum of sensibilities” to comedy development.

SiriusXM today announced a multi-year extension with one of its most beloved and longest-running podcasts: “Comedy Bang Bang: The Podcast,” the improvisational interview show hosted by writer and comedian Scott Aukerman.

The two-year agreement keeps “Comedy Bang! Bang!” at Earwolf, SiriusXM’s comedy podcast studio, where it will continue to be produced and distributed. Additionally, the show will begin to release weekly Bonus Bang episodes, consisting of classic “Comedy Bang! Bang!” episodes previously behind the CBB World paywall. SiriusXM Media, the combined advertising sales group of Sirius Xm Holdings Inc., will maintain exclusive global ad sales rights to the podcast.

Actor and comedian Zach Woods has signed with the Gersh Agency for representation in all areas.

Woods is best known for his work on critically acclaimed series “Silicon Valley” and “The Office.” He played Donald “Jared” Dunn for six seasons on “Silicon Valley” and joined “The Office” as Gabe Lewis starting in Season 6.

When it comes to guest appearances on the new "Frasier" revival, all the talk has been about returning stars from the original series. Mel Brooks is one of the few remaining living legends in pop culture to have survived so many generational shifts. He started as a comedy writer in the earliest days of television, helped shape and transform modern movie humor, and eventually ended up creating a sea change on Broadway as well with an adaptation of "The Producers," one of his first movies. And now, more than seven full decades after he started in TV, Brooks is back on the small screen, as glimpsed in the opening of the Hulu limited series "History of the World, Part II." But true to form, the Brooks we get a glimpse of is a joke in and of itself: it's a very "swole" Brooks (Aka a bodybuilder with a de-aged version of Brooks' face slapped in front of his own visage). Coming out as a bold filmmaker with a fearless voice, prolific alt comedy editor Vera Drew’s mixed media dystopia is a Fiercely original and deeply personal, it’s too damn good not to be seen.

While TikTok has long been a conduit for comedy, its live platform is getting set to debut its first fully produced sketch comedy series, the Sam Grey-backed Stapleview.

Beginning Thursday, the show will stream along with a dedicated channel on TikTok Live, with subsequent distribution across social media. The official announcement of the venture describes Stapleview as “a modern take on sketch comedy and variety show formats featuring a collection of popular individual content creators.”

Grey, who is Stapleview’s creator and executive producer, is a former manager and producer at Management 360 and Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video. Fourteen more stars have been added to the cast of Season 2 of Jordan Peele’s “Twilight Zone” reboot at CBS All Access, including Kylie Bunbury, Sky Ferreira, Topher Grace, David Krumholtz, Greta Lee, Thomas Lennon, Natalie Martinez, Brandon Jay McLaren, Gretchen Mol, Paula Newsome, Tawny Newsome, Jurnee Smollett, Paul F. Tompkins and Damon Wayans Jr.

These new additions to the upcoming 10-episode season, which is set to premiere this summer on the streaming service, join a lineup that includes Billy Porter, Joel McHale, Tony Hale, Morena Baccarin, Colman Domingo, Ethan Embry, Jenna Elfman, Tavi Gevinson, Abbie Hern, Gillian Jacobs, Sophia Macy, Chris Meloni, Jimmi Simpson and Daniel Sunjata.

Peele, who narrates the series, will also write the episode, “Downtime,” which features Baccarin, Domingo and Hale.

Pluto TV has signed a deal with AMC Networks that’ll bring dozens of classic “Walking Dead” episodes to the free streaming service, as well as four new channels dedicated to other AMC content, the two companies shared on Thursday.

The first five seasons of the “The Walking Dead” will hit Pluto TV, along with the first three seasons of “Fear the Walking Dead,” as part of the deal. Other popular shows from IFC, including “Comedy Bang! Bang!” and “Documentary Now!” will also hit the service. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Pluto TV, the ad-supported streaming service owned by ViacomCBS, has added four new channels derived from AMC Networks programming, including The Walking Dead en Español.

Effective Friday, the 22-million-plus active viewers of Pluto will get access to the Spanish-language Twd offering, which features early seasons of the original series as well as spinoff Fear the Walking Dead. Also on tap are Stories By AMC (including past seasons of Twd), Slightly Off By IFC and All Reality We TV. Select programming from the four will also be made available on demand via Pluto.

Pluto’s approach to streaming has been to present viewers with an experience resembling the traditional television one, with live feeds, a programming grid and a large menu of channels. With an editorial team, it creates curated versions of programming available elsewhere, enabling it to largely steer clear of friction with pay-tv operators paying companies like ViacomCBS to carry linear networks.

“Comedy Bang! Bang!” is ending after five seasons on IFC. The series started as a podcast hosted by Scott Aukerman and Reggie Watts. After it proved to be incredibly popular, IFC turned it into a series, featuring talk show-like segments and bizarre, surreal comedy. Aukerman broke the news on Twitter. “We’ve had a great run, and I couldn’t be more proud of the show. We have 10 final episodes premiering in October, and a great 2-part finale,” he wrote. Watts was the co-host and bandleader for most of the series, but departed in the middle of Season 4 to become the bandleader.
