One of HBO’s former hot properties returns in a big way this January, as True Detective season four finally arrives on the service. Will this be a return to form for the gritty show? Well, that remains unclear, but this time around the anthology series will follow detectives Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) as the long winter darkness in Alaska. When eight people at the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace, these detectives need to get on the case quickly.
Also hitting Max this month is the final season of Sort Of. Season three finds Sabi (Bilal Baig) dealing with the unexpected death of their father, and making some big life choices as a result.

This month, free streaming service Pluto TV will premiere the new kids’ animated series “Shaq’s Garage.” The show focuses on the secret adventures of basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal’s extraordinary collection of cars, trucks, and other unique vehicles, known as the Shaq Pack. The show will debut on June 5.
The 1994 Australian road comedy “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” was eye-opening at its debut. The movie centers on two drag queens and a transgender woman crossing the Outback en route to a nightclub performance. Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce, and Terence Stamp star in the comedy that helped introduce LGBTQ themes to a mainstream audience. The film arrives on the service on June 1.

Alan Yang’s directorial debut is shaping up to be a somber, albeit entirely heartfelt, story of love and family.
Netflix has released the trailer for Yang’s “Tigertail,” which will premiere on the streaming service April 10. The film initially centers on a young Pin-Jui (Hong-Chi Lee), who relocates to the United States from Taiwan in search of a better life, though the move forces him to get an arranged marriage in lieu of staying with the woman he loves.

“Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover” is a proverb whose simple existence proves the fact impressionable souls will do so without fail. This monthly column focuses on the film industry’s willingness to capitalize on this truth, releasing one-sheets to serve as not representations of what audiences are to expect, but as propaganda to fill seats. Oftentimes they fail miserably.
What’s up with so few movies opening in theaters this February? I’m not complaining since it means a lot less posters to go through as well as perhaps a sign that less crap is being made. Remember when there was an event type atmosphere surrounding every new release because so much money and creativity went into it? Oh the days when there was more good cinema popping up on the marquee than clunkers.
This month sadly doesn’t look to go back to that trend. Along...

When best friends Michael and Matty make a pact to lose their virginity before prom, a spanner is thrown in the works when Matty comes out as gay. Trying to work out their new situation, Michael makes it his life ambition to continue the pact no matter what. Together, they start on an adventure of calamity and hi-jinx as they try to find their place in the world, how their lives have changed because of it and who can they persuade to have sex with them before prom night is through.
Date and Switch definitely suffers from that classic ‘teenager romantic comedy’ syndrome where it is all about sex and, namely, having it before a certain time limit is up.

Next February, actress Dakota Johnson will likely be launched to Twilight-era Kristen Stewart-esque levels of mega-stardom when she appears as Anastasia Steele in the hotly anticipated Bdsm romance Fifty Shades of Grey, based on the runaway bestseller by E.L. James. With legions of fans to please and her career to think of, Johnson has every reason to be thinking about her future as an actress past Fifty Shades – and now, she’s locked down another book-to-film adaptation sure to endear her to a very different crowd, with word that she’ll star in Forever, Interrupted.
Based on the acclaimed debut novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid, Forever, Interrupted centers on a young woman who is swept off her feet by the man of her dreams. It’s love at first sight, and they fall deeply in love, eloping with five months of first laying eyes on one another. Then, just as quickly,...

New Indie There’s a whole subcategory of the Teen Movie genre that we could call the prom-com, in which everything leads up to the big dance that’s the defining moment of so many students’ senior year. One of my new favorites of this ilk would be the wonderfully off-kilter Date and Switch (Lionsgate), a comedy that takes the adolescent bromance into gay territory without missing a comic beat. Best pals Michael (Nicholas Braun) and Matty (Hunter Cope — skinny on the DVD cover, adorably schlubby enough in the movie to be playing the Seth Rogen/Jonah Hill role) decide they’ve just got to lose their respective virginities before prom; so far, so typical. But when Matty comes out as “a gay dude” to Michael, complications ensue, not the least of...

Dakota Johnson needn't worry about getting typecast as her submissive Fifty Shades of Grey character Anastasia Steele, because, as she proves in this deleted Date and Switch clip, she can masterfully dominate a scene, too! The 24-year-old actress plays Em, the supportive ex-girlfriend Matty (Hunter Cope), a high school guy outed as gay before he's ready. Dakota's character blames Michael (Nicholas Braun) for spilling Matty's secret, and when he naïvely shows up at her house and asks her to prom, she properly eviscerates him. "You've done an awful, horrible thing," she spits. "If I were Matty, I don't know if I've ever forgive you." Michael tries (and...

“Date and Switch” star Hunter Cope grew up around the entertainment industry thanks to his voice-over manager mother and film editor father, but when he told his extended family that he booked his first lead role in a low-budget studio comedy titled “Gay Dude,” some scoffed and suggested a title change. “I know I grew up in the San Fernando Valley, but it’s not a porn film! It was a Black List script written by Alan Yang,” Cope told TheWrap with a laugh Thursday, just hours before Lionsgate released “Date and Switch” day-and-date in 11 theatrical markets as well as.

When Matty reveals that he is a "gay dude", Michael insists on accompanying him on an exploration of his sexuality.
Johnson plays Matty's ex, who threatens to come between the pair.
Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, Sarah Hyland, Zach Cregger, Gary Cole, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Brian Geraghty also feature in the film, which was originally titled Gay Dude.
Date and Switch will be released on February 14 in the Us. A UK release date is yet to be announced.

After directing the big, goofy Sundance comedy Ass Backwards with Casey Wilson and June Diane Raphael (which I enjoyed quite a bit), Chris Nelson is back in the director's chair with future 50 Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson for the teen sexy comedy Date and Switch. The film follows best friends Michael (Nicholas Braun) and Matty (Hunter Cope) who take the familiar oath to help each other lose their virginity before senior prom. However, when Matty reveals that he's gay, that changes their approach. At least it's an original take on this subgenre, and the supporting cast has Nick Offerman and more. Watch! Here's the first trailer for Chris Nelson's Date and Switch, originally from Yahoo: Date and Switch is directed by Chris Nelson (Ass Backwards) and written by Alan Yang ("Parks & Recreation") High school seniors Michael (Nicholas Braun) and Matty (Hunter Cope) have been best friends since the 3rd grade.

It seems like we haven’t heard about Nicholas Braun in a while, but we will definitely be hearing a lot about Dakota Johnson in 2014 thanks to a little “Twilight” fanfiction taken way too far. But here they are together in the first trailer released today for “Date and Switch” (previously “Gay Dude”). Newcomer Hunter [...]

Charlie Hunnam: ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ gets its Christian Grey (photo: shirtless Charlie Hunnam in ‘Pacific Rim’) In the last couple of weeks, the world has been rocked by several revelations that have left earthlings — depending on their particular expectations, prejudices, and mental health — infuriated, terrified, shocked, thrilled. Am I referring to the reported chemical attacks in Syria and the Obama administration’s determination that the U.S. should get involved in that country’s bloody civil war? Syrius Chemical Civil War? Is Obama endorsing a new video game? Is it in 3D? Nope, that’s not what I’m talking about. Nor am I referring to the ivory trade and the relentless poaching of African elephants, which will quite possibly lead to their extinction in the very, very near future. Or to the nearly 1,000 manatees and dolphins that have met with slow and agonizing deaths in Florida’s grossly polluted waterways.

Exclusive: Guys With Kids‘ Zach Cregger is set to co-star opposite Krysten Ritter in NBC‘s single-camera comedy pilot Assistance, from Gary Sanchez Prods. and Universal TV. Written by Leslye Headland, Assistance centers on Nora (Ritter), an idealistic “working girl” assistant who is pulled between her colleague (Cregger) and her real-life fiance (Peter Cambor) while trying to manage a demanding boss. Cregger’s casting is in second position to Guys With Kids. Both projects are with NBC/Universal TV. I hear that was important to Cregger who wanted to remain loyal to his current series and didn’t entertain interest from pilots on other nets. Cregger, repped by Wme and Principato-Young, is starring in the Lionsgate film Gay Dude as well as the indie The Bounceback, which premiers at the SXSW film festival. He is a founding member and creator of the sketch group The Whitest Kidsu’know. Frances Fisher...

Although he made a big splash playing Specialist Owen Eldridge in The Hurt Locker, I haven’t really heard much about Brian Geraghty in the time since. Sure, he’s had numerous bit parts in various films over the years, but nothing that tops his performance in the 6-time Oscar winning film. Maybe this news will change things, as THR says the actor has been cast to lead the indie picture Kilimanjaro.
Written and directed by Walter Strafford, the film, as you may have guessed, centers “on a man who is determined to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro after a recent breakup.” Geraghty will most obviously be playing said man, with a shoot starting sometime next month. This marks Strafford‘s feature length debut — he has directed various shorts including, Tilting at Windmills and, most recently, Weekend Plans.
I actually re-watched The Hurt Locker just last week, so this is pretty intriguing news for me.

After a break-out turn in Kathryn Bigelow's "The Hurt Locker," where he went toe-to-toe with Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackie, Brian Geraghty hasn't exactly risen at the same trajectory as his two former co-stars; his most high-profile roles to date are in the yet-be-released ensemble rom-com "Ten Year" and the universally-panned horror flick "Atm."
We certainly had high hopes for the young actor, even championing him for the lead in 'Captain America' when that role was up for grabs. On the horizon, he has a supporting turn in Robert Zemeckis' "Flight," which should prove another opportunity for him to shine, and the actor remains prominent in the indie scene with a handful of films, including two from helmer Chris Nelson (the classily titled double of "Gay Dude" & "Ass Backwards") and a starring role opposite Krysten Ritter in "Refuge."
Geraghty will now add another interesting string to his bow...

“Only Fools and Horses”, the British sitcom which has been named the greatest comedy of all time on numerous occasions on these shores is being remade for American audiences by ABC.
A Brit hit translation for Us screens is not uncommon of course, with Ricky Gervais’ The Office being the most recent big success to be transferred stateside and to huge success at NBC.
When a U.S. Only Fools was first announced many British fans instantly expected this to fail, with even Del Boy himself David Jason being skeptical of the possibility of it being anything other than a failure. Early judgement was to be expected, but as news snippets and details of casting come out, are there signs that this ‘horse’ may have legs?
First up was the announcement that John Leguizamo would be playing Del Boy…

Aaron Paul's current gig has him cooking up crystal meth, but it looks like he'll be making a little detour for alcoholism.
Variety reports that the "Breaking Bad" star is in talks to join the indie dramedy, "Smashed," a film about a couple who bond over their shared addiction to booze. Things go awry, however, when the wife decides to sober up and go to AA meetings.
"Parks and Recreation" star Nick Offerman is also in talks to join the film; he would, quite hilariously, play an assistant principal at the school where Paul's character teaches.
There's just something about Paul and dark roles; he just wrapped up filming "Right Angle," a drama about a fast-living salesman who becomes a paraplegic. As for Offerman, he'll next appear in the Spanish language Will Ferrell comedy, "Casa de Mi Padre," and then the comedy, "Gay Dude," with wife Megan Mullally.

[1] Stanley Tucci and Chris Cooper have become the latest additions to Robert Redford's The Company You Keep, a thriller based on the novel by Neil Gordon. The film boasts quite a strong cast already -- Julie Christie, Susan Sarandon, Nick Nolte, Brit Marling, Shia Labeouf, and Redford himself are all set to star as well. The script, by Lem Dobbs, centers around a former Weather Underground member (Redford) who's forced to go on the run when a determined reporter (Labeouf) exposes his identity. Tucci will take the part of Labeouf's editor. Cooper plays the brother of Redford's character, who cares for his niece (Marling, perhaps) when her father disappears. As suggested by the title, the comedy follows a man who becomes the target of identity theft. Bateman will play the victim, and McCarthy the thief. They never can quite get together on screen, can they?
Real life couple and hilarious TV exes, Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally have together signed on to play parents of two best friends in an upcoming comedy. Titled "Gay Dude," Variety relays that it's about two best friends, played by Nicholas Braun and Hunter Cope, who vow to get laid before their senior prom -- shades of "American Pie" -- before one of the kids comes out as gay to the other.
Offerman will play supportive father to the gay friend, while Mullally will be mother to the other friend. The pair are, of course, the hilariously combustible divorcees Ron Swanson and Tammy (two), who manipulate each other into sex and political favors. This season will see the addition of Swanson's first ex wife named Tammy, to be played by Patricia Clarkson, who terrifies Mullally's Tammy character.

When it comes to celebrity couples you typically couldn't pay me to give half a shit, but I make an exception for Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally. Dakota Johnson has signed on to bring a woman's (and probably heterosexual) touch to the new romantic comedy, "Gay Dude," according to Variety.
"Gay Dude" follows the misadventures of two high school seniors who vow to lose their virginity before prom, a quest that becomes more surprising and convoluted when one of them comes out of the closet.
Oh, these wacky high-concept rom coms --finding love (and getting laid) is just never easy, is it?
Johnson's role is currently unknown but it might be safe to assume that her character is targeted for possibly assisting one of the boys in fulfilling his goal. She joins a cast that includes Nicholas Braun ("Red State," "Prom"), newcomer Hunter Cope and Dreama Walker ("Gossip Girl").
Chris Nelson of "HBO Voyeur Project" is set to direct with a script by Alan Yang ("Parks and Recreation").
