With writer/director Declan O’Brien’s Joy Ride 3: Road Kill releasing to DVD and Blu-ray this Tuesday, June 17th, here’s additional coverage stemming from our set visit last summer to the same in Winnipeg, Canada.
Written and directed by O'Brien, whose previous horror entries include the Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment features Wrong Turn 3, Wrong Turn 4 and Wrong Turn 5 (as well as Syfy's Sharktopus), Joy Ride 3: Road Kill (review) originated with the 2001 Paul Walker-starring, J.J. Abrams-co-scripted film Joy Ride.
Produced by Kim Todd, this installment (which melds the worlds of tuner car racing and road-trip horror) stars Ken Kirzinger (Freddy vs. Jason) as the project's villainous truck driver 'Rusty Nail.’
Joining him are Kirsten Prout (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) as tuner-car girl ‘Jewel McCaul,’ Jesse Hutch (Freddy vs. Jason) as racer ‘Jordan Wells,’ Benjamin Hollingsworth (of the television series “Cult”) as mechanic ‘Mickey Cole,...

1971’s Duel revved the engines of cinematic road-ragers everywhere and put many a vicious vehicle on the old highway to hell. What horror fan doesn’t love The Car, Christine, and Death Proof?
Those are classics. But what sets the Joy Ride film franchise apart from the rest is that it’s more about the diabolical driver and less about the terrifying truck. Which is not to say the big rig isn’t badass in its own right, but let’s face it: The 18-wheeler isn’t nearly as fun to chat with as actor and stuntman Ken Kirzinger.
Dread Central: Were you familiar with the Rusty Nail character before stepping into the role?
Ken Kirzinger: I auditioned for Rusty in Joy Ride 2 but didn’t get the part. Instead it went to a good friend, Mark Gibbon, who I ended up stunt doubling for in the movie. So yes,...

Fox must be making a killing (no pun intended) on its line of direct-to-dvd/Blu-ray sequels for Wrong Turn and Joy Ride . It's the only reason we can see them pushing forward with both franchises. While we await for the inevitable word that Wrong Turn 6 is in the works, Fox reps inform us today that Joy Ride 3 begins shooting September 3rd. The last installment in the series - Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead - arrived in 2008. Before that, let's not forget, the decent 2001 film Joy Ride with Paul Walker and Steve Zahn. "Horror auteur" (the press release's words, not ours) Declan O.Brien ( Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings , Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines ) will direct from a script he penned. Rusty Nail is back on the road again looking to punish injustice at every...

Fox Home Entertainment has announced that their moving forward with Joy Ride 3, set to begin production early next month:
“Terror gets back behind the wheel when Joy Ride 3 begins production in Winnipeg, Manitoba beginning September 3. This gruesome third-installment of the franchise that follows 2001’s Joy Ride starring Paul Walker (The Fast and the Furious Franchise) and 2008’s Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead, is written and directed by horror auteur Declan O’Brien (Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings, Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines)
Rusty Nail is back on the road again looking to punish injustice at every turn — and this time it’s with a group of hotheaded street racers on their way to the Road Rally 1000. As they drive through a desolate shortcut on the way to the race, an encounter with Rusty turns sour and soon he is tracking, teasing and torturing them until the end of the road.

Through a reputable online shopping website, I managed to pick up the Halloween Collection for a ridiculously low price. Having only seen the first two all the way through, I wanted to view all of them as I do love a good bit of seasonal horror.
I had my corn popped, my fridge stalked full of caffeinated products and was ready to begin the horror marathon to end all horror marathons. I started with the original John Carpenter classic and went straight through them all, concluding with the absolutely diabolical and somewhat embarrassing Halloween Resurrection. The boxset didn’t include the recent Rob Zombie remake and it’s sequel, which is good because they don’t exist.
All I want from a Halloween film is Michael Myers to wear the infamous white mask and that iconic theme to play. Two simple things that even Rob Zombie couldn’t get right.

Before we begin with the review of Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines, let's begin, as usual, with a quick history lesson:
2003 -- Wrong Turn, a horror film about some unfortunate young people who run afoul of some vile backwoods hillbilly cannibals while traveling through the West Virginia woodlands, does pretty decent business for a "no-name" horror flick (it grossed about $28 million in North America) but went on to become a big renter at the video stores as well as a heavy-rotation cable TV favorite. The movie has a strong cast, some solid tension, a few nasty shocks, and a bunch of great practical effects from the late Stan Winston and his cohorts. 2007 -- Wrong Turn 2: Dead End premieres on DVD, and while it lacks the appreciable "seriousness" of its predecessor, this "Dtv" follow-up turned out to be a lot more amusing than any horror fan could reasonably expect. Debuting today on DVD and Blu-ray/DVD combo from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, (see details here), Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines stars Bradley as Maynard J. Odets, a new villain with an important part to play in the development of the films’ trio of deformed hillbilly cannibals. Speaking to Fango at the recent Horrorfind Weekend in Pennsylvania, Bradley explains, “Wrong Turn 4 was a prequel. The Three Stooges, as I took to calling them, were holed up in an abandoned hospital carrying out their nefarious deeds, so the idea is that Wrong Turn 5 is, as it were, Wrong Turn 2, and Wrong Turn 4 was Wrong Turn 1. It’s a bit like Star Wars [laughs], so the first Wrong Turn becomes Wrong Turn 3.

This past Saturday (10/20) this writer, along with actresses Natalie Victoria (DeadHeads) and Carlee Baker (The Woman)' made the drive from Hollywood to Temecula, CA, to participate in Run For Your Lives, a zombie-infested 5K obstacle course race and lived to tell about it.
Read on for photos and more!
A national phenomenon, this past weekend’s Run For Your Lives event was set up at Vail Lake, Temecula, and in addition to the well-organized race, it included live bands, food and alchohol vendors and a Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines booth (the film streets tomorrow, 10/23, on DVD and Blu-ray via Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment), where filmmaker Declan O’Brien spent some time signing materials after completing his heat (no lie, I had to talk him into the former, and as it turned out, he was happy I did).
So how does Run For Your Lives work? It’s pretty straightforward.

*there are spoilers here. Director/writer: Declan O'Brien. Cast: Doug Bradley, Roxanne McKee, Camilla Arfwedson, Borislav Iliev, Peter Brooke, Paul Luebke, Kyle Redmond-Jones, Radoslav Parvanov, Amy Lennox, Duncan Wisbey, Oliver Hoare, George Karlukovski, and Simon Ginty. The Wrong Turn series of films has become a little confusing to follow. Two mutant hillbillies were killed in the original Wrong Turn film: Saw Tooth and One Eye. This left Three Finger alone to fight in Wrong Turn 2: Dead End and Wrong Turn 3: Left For Dead. Three Finger's deformed son Three Toes would participate in the second sequel. And, in Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines, the action begins after Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings and before the original Wrong Turn and the next two sequels. Are you confused now too? Director Declan O'Brien has had to play around with the timeline of this horror franchise a bit as many of the...

I know what you’re thinking. There was a Wrong Turn 4? Your guess is as good as mine on that count, but what matters here is that Wrong Turn 5 will be released to Blu-ray and DVD next week. Even better for fans of movies about toothless, drooling n’ molestin’ mountain folk? Two lucky readers will each win a copy of the film on Blu-ray along with a 2Gb thumb drive (pictured below) originally created as a Comic-Con exclusive. How do you enter? Easy. It’s May 1, 2012, when I land in Sofia, Bulgaria, for a set visit to the then-shooting Declan O’Brien written and directed flick Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines, and the first thing I notice after the eleven-hour flight from Los Angeles to Munich, Germany, and the two-hour connecting flight to Sofia is the seemingly foreboding signage in the airport, which reads...
“Welcome to Bulgaria. Tell Your Friends and Family.”
I’m a bit delirious with jet-lag and interpret this as a warning (perhaps I’ve seen Hostel one too many times), and follow the production assistant who greets me to her van. It’s eleven at night, and a handful of arriving passengers about me clutch their leashed dogs in an attempt to keep them from tussling with the stray canines which meander about the terminal’s exterior (I would soon learn that Sofia’s population of homeless dogs hovers around...

I disliked Wrong Turn, really enjoyed Wrong Turn 2: Dead End, skipped Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead, gave Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings a look and was mildly amused and now comes Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines, which seems to have either abandoned the original Wrong Turn group of hillbilly, inbred, cannibal mountain men or is featuring their relatives. I'm not exactly sure, but here's the plot. The cutting-edge terror continues when a small mining town hosts the legendary Mountain Man Festival on Halloween, where crowds of costumed partygoers gather for a wild night of music and mischief. But a killer celebration soon gives way to a blood-soaked feeding frenzy when an inbred family of hillbilly cannibals trick and treat themselves to a group of visiting college students who are just dying for a good time... How seriously do you think I take Halloween? Well, I’m fairly frickin’ anal retentive anyway, so I need to book my viewing in advance. I mean I’ll deviate from my itinerary, but I at least need a plan. I can’t be the only one out there with a stick up his ass. So this October/Halloween Season I figured we needed a little guidance. There’s too many damn channels on the cable box, no horror hosts and shit for advertising. So let me be your TV Guide… Keeper.
We won’t touch on everything and I’m sure new programming will come up as October gets itself moving. I’ll throw an update out there from time to time if a special is airing or a new programming line up is discovered, uncovered, revealed or undead. Yes, this is for cable or dish. Network TV will...

Last week saw the release of Kevin Macdonald’s acclaimed documentary, Marley, alongside Peter Berg’s mammoth blockbuster, Battleship, and this week brings with it a handful of new films and, most importantly in my books, the long-anticipated release of The Walking Dead Season 2. Today is a good day.
It’s a fairly light week with new releases, so without further ado,
My pick of the week:
The Walking Dead – Season 2.
The Walking Dead – Season 2 Iframe Embed for Youtube
DVD and Blu-ray
(also available: The Walking Dead – Seasons 1 and 2 Box Set)
Ordinarily, I focus on television programmes after the week’s new film releases, but The Walking Dead deserves to be the exception to that rule.
The show is one of the finest currently on TV, and if you haven’t started, now is definitely the time to pick up the first two seasons. It’s not often we get...

It’s Monday, so we all know what that means! Yes, it’s time for another rundown of DVDs and Blu-ray’s hitting stores online and offline this week. It’s a jam-packed week, with plenty of movies waiting to take you money, so let us breakdown the new releases and highlight what you should – and shouldn’t – be buying from today, August 27th 2012.
Pick(S) Of The Week
Detention (DVD)
Josh Hutcherson, Dane Cook and Spencer Locke star in Detention, a hipster, teen horror-comedy where the local students of Grizzly Lake must survive their final year of high school. Standing in their way is Cinderhella, a slasher-movie killer who has seemingly come to life and is preying on the school’s student body. As the clock ticks and the bodies pile up, the likely suspects are embroiled in a race against time to stop Cinderhella and ultimately save the world…...

Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings
Stars: Sean Skene, Blane Cypurda, Dan Skene, Jenny Pudavick, Tenika Davis, Kaitlyn Wong, Terra Vnesa, Victor Zinck Jr. | Written and Directed by Declan O’Brien
It’s 1974 and deep in the West Virginia wilderness, a family of inbred hillbilly cannibals are being held in an isolated asylum for the violent and mentally ill. The asylum soon becomes deserted when the inbred family escape and take sadistic and gratuitous revenge on their captors…. Decades later, a group of college students take a wrong turn and seek refuge in the now-abandoned asylum after a blizzard derails their plans for a weekend winter break. But when the students encounter the medical ward’s most frightening former patients, now fiendishly famished residents, their only choice is to fight back…or die trying.
I loved 2003′s Wrong Turn, helped in part by the appearance of Buffy co-star Eliza Dushku in the lead role.

Any three-breasted news is good news. The name on every excited adolescent's lips is Kaitlyn Leeb ('Wrong Turn 4'), the actress who has gained a horde of new fans after her Comic-Con appearance earlier this month in character as the famous three-breasted hooker from the upcoming 'Total Recall' reboot. The much oggled Leeb (below) has taken time out to chat with the Ottawa Citizen about her new role in the Len Wiseman directed remake set for release next month. The hush-hush role sees Leeb sport her third breast made famous and iconic in Paul Verhoeven's 1990 sci-fi adaption where actress Lycia Naff played the role. Colin Farrell ('Fright Night'), Jessica Biel ('The Tall Man'), Kate Beckinsale ('Underworld: Awakening'), Bryan Cranston ('Drive'), Bill Nighy ('Shaun of the Dead') and Ethan Hawke ('Daybreakers') all star. The latest new clip from 'Total Recall' gives another nod to its Paul Verhoeven helmed predecessor with the brief appearance of a particularly familiar looking character hoping to stay for '2 weeks'...yeah you got it. The inclusion is merely a red herring though as our new Naughties Quaid played by Colin Farrell ('Fright Night') attempts to get through security unspotted. The Len Wiseman directed 'Total Recall' redo stars Mrs Wiseman Kate Beckinsale ('Underworld'), Jessica Biel ('The Tall Man'), Bryan Cranston ('Drive'), Bill Nighy ('Shaun of the Dead'), Ethan Hawke ('Daybreakers') and also features a sexy PG-13 rated triple breasted appearance by Kaitlyn Leeb ('Wrong Turn 4'). Until recently, Kaitlyn Leeb was just another unknown Canadian actress. Her IMDb resume indicates that she starred in Wrong Turn 4 and the Vinnie Jones/Kimbo Slice/Bai Ling 2010 actual movie Locked Down, along with a mandatory-in-Canada appearance on Degrassi: The Next Generation. But Leeb’s career is getting a lift thanks to her brief, uncredited, but utterly pivotal role in August’s Total Recall remake as the reincarnation of the Three-Breasted Mutant Prostitute. Leeb actually showed up to the San Diego Comic-Con and hung out with Recall stars Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale. Like many attractive women on the floor at Comic-Con,...

Whilst we're still reeling from the news that Kate Beckinsale was at one point being lined up for a 'Total Recall' cameo as the much beloved three breasted hooker in the Len Wiseman helmed redo we can now catch sight at the glorious Kaitlyn Leeb ('Wrong Turn 4') looking as sexy as ever in her thigh-high leather boots as well as sporting not 1, not 2 but 3 awesome breasts. Leeb was snapped at Comic-Con 2012 posing in her very revealing hooker character's garb. The actress pops up in a scene with the new Quaid, played by Colin Farrell ('Fright Night'), showing off that notorious triple hit of top bollocks in the new reimagining of the classic Philip K Dick sci-fi short. Along with Beeb, Beckinsale and Farrell we have Jessica Biel ('The Tall Man'), Bryan Cranston ('Drive'), Bill Nighy ('Shaun of the Dead...

In what is one of the longest running horror franchises in recent years, the Wrong Turn series of films continues with Wrong Turn 5: Bloodbath. This film is currently shooting in Bulgaria. Wrong Turn 5 will also be a prequel similar to Wrong Turn 4. This title takes place after Wrong Turn 4 and before the original film. Also of note, Hellraiser actor Doug Bradley will participate in this venture. For now, an early concept poster has become available. In the graphic, One-Eye, Saw Tooth and Three Finger can be seen in shadows. Elements of a musical festival, in which the film is set, can also be seen while a victim screams in terror. Wrong Turn 5: Bloodbath will release on DVD October 2012 with Declan O'Brien (Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead, Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings) again at the helm. Release Date: October 2012 (DVD). Opening Film - The Seasoning House (World Premiere)
Special make-up prosthetics and splatter genius Paul Hyett makes his directorial debut with a harrowing exploration into tense claustrophobia, hard-hitting action and rollercoaster suspense. In a Balkan brothel, where girls kidnapped by soldiers in war-torn zones are prostituted to the military and civilians alike, Angel (Robin Day) is the deaf mute orphan enslaved to care for the inmates. But unbeknownst to her captors, she moves between the walls and crawlspaces of the seasoning house planning her escape. Psychological horror in the nerve-shredding Alfred Hitchcock and Roman Polanski style but with an ultra-modern twist.

Wrong Turn 5: Bloodbath will be released on Blu-ray/DVD later this year and we have an early look at the cover artwork.
“Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has started production on the next installment of the horror genre hit, Wrong Turn. Director and writer Declan O’Brien (Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings, Sharktopus) returns to the helm of his third film in the franchise, with Doug Bradley, best known for his role of ‘Pinhead’ in the Hellraiser films, leading the cast. Filming is underway in and near Sophia, Bulgaria and is expected to end May 5.
In the next chilling chapter of Wrong Turn, a small West Virginia town is hosting the legendary Mountain Man Festival on Halloween, where throngs of costumed partygoers gather for a wild night of music and mischief. But an inbred family of hillbilly cannibals kill all the fun when they trick and treat themselves...
