A decade ago, Legendary Pictures secured the rights to Godzilla and other characters owned and created by the Japanese company Toho so they could launch a cinematic universe they call the MonsterVerse – and they also secured the rights to the King Kong character so he could be part of their MonsterVerse as well. Things got started with Godzilla in 2014, and since then the universe has expanded with Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong, the animated series Skull Island, the live-action series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Miles Teller and his wife Keleigh Teller have lost their Pacific Palisades home in the Los Angeles wildfires.

Keleigh took to her Instagram account Thursday night to share the last photo she quickly took of their house as they were evacuating before it was engulfed in flames.

“To everyone reaching out I can’t thank you enough, your kind hearts have meant the world, I’ll never forget them,” she wrote in the post’s caption. “Community has come out stronger than I could imagine, Pacific Palisades I love you beyond measure; you are a little slice of heaven, we will come back stronger than ever.”

Keleigh also shared an image of their home, completely brought down to ash and rubble, in addition to a photo of their neighborhood, before and after the Palisades Fire swept through their community.

Glen Powell, the actor who had a breakout Hollywood year in 2024, is continuing his hot streak into the new year.

The actor and his production banner Barnstorm have signed a first-look film deal with Universal Pictures, for whom the actor starred in last year’s surprise hit Twisters.

The deal comes on the heels of Powell finding the executive tasked with running his banner. Dan Cohen, who was a principal at Shawn Levy’s prolific production company 21 Laps, will help run Barnstorm as Powell’s partner. The new position, one of the most-coveted jobs in town, was filled over the holiday break.

Univision is making a notable shift to its primetime programming in 2025, cutting a telenovela timeslot to premiere the true crime show Código de Investigación.

Borja Voces is set to host Código de Investigación, which will broadcast live on weeknights starting on January 14, 2025, at 10 p.m. Et/Pt.

On Código de Investigación, Voces, the host of Univision’s Edición Digital newcast, will explore the most captivating and shocking crime stories that have captured the public’s attention. Each episode will feature in-depth investigations, expert analysis, testimonials, and cutting-edge technology to bring viewers closer to the truth.

A team of renowned experts in different fields, such as criminologists, mental health professionals, police officers, and forensic specialists, will guide viewers through complex cases, offering unique insights and uncovering hidden truths.

Código de Investigación will not only examine past crimes that have shaken communities but also follow current cases, providing live updates and exclusive interviews with key players.

Back in late September 2024, 20th Century Studios announced that it would be remaking the 1992 thriller classic The Hand That Rocks the Cradle with Longlegs actress Maika Monroe leading the cast. Now, we've just learned of a potential new cast addition. Scream queen Mary Elizabeth Winstead is reportedly in talks to join the remake, starring opposite Monroe.

Conversations are currently being had about Winstead joining the movie, but she has not officially signed on yet. Fingers crossed, an official agreement is reached because we would love to see her and fellow scream queen Maika Monroe act together, especially after knowing who they will be playing in the movie.

HBO announced today that Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler have officially joined the cast of the upcoming DC series Lanterns. Aaron Pierre will play John Stewart and Kyle Chandler has been cast as Hal Jordan.

The anticipated series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.

Lanterns is an HBO series in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King will co-write the series based on the DC comic Green Lantern.

James Hawes directs the first two episodes. The series is executive produced by Mundy, Lindelof, King, and Hawes.

Aaron Pierre currently stars as the lead in Jeremy Saulnier’s Rebel Ridge, which debuted on Netflix on September 6th and was the #1 title worldwide on the streaming service for three weeks in a row.

Paramount is updating “An Officer and a Gentleman” with Miles Teller set to star.

Teller will take on the lead role in the modern take on the 1982 classic starring Richard Gere, which was nominated for six Academy Awards, winning the best original song prize for “Up Where We Belong” and marking Louis Gossett Jr.’s historic achievement of becoming the first Black best supporting actor Oscar winner.

“An Officer and a Gentleman” centered on Gere’s Zack Mayo, an aspiring Navy aviator who clashes with his hard-nosed drill instructor, Gunnery Sgt. Emil Foley (Gossett) while navigating a budding romance with Paula (Debra Winger), a factory worker with dreams of getting out of her small town. The Taylor Hackford-directed romantic drama was also a box office smash, earning $190 million globally.

Dana Fox wrote the latest draft of the script for the new movie, following a draft written by Matt Johnson.

The Divergent series cast includes rising stars such as Shailene Woodley and Theo James, who gained fame from the movies. The Divergent series was canceled due to lack of success, leading the original cast to move on to other projects. Characters like Tris and Four faced themes of loyalty and sacrifice, evolving into formidable leaders in the faction-divided world.

The Divergent series main cast includes 12 prominent actors, many of whom rose to fame during the 2010s. Some of them may not have been big names when these movies came out in 2014-2016, but all of them are now bonafide stars on film and TV. The Divergent series refers to the trilogy of movies based on books by Veronica Roth, titled Divergent, Insurgent, and Allegiant. The three Divergent movies starred Shailene Woodley and Theo James in the lead roles, with a massive ensemble cast, including veterans, rising stars, and several award-winning actors.

The Fantastic Four is gearing up to begin shooting later this summer and Marvel Studios has now enlisted a cinematographer in Jess Hall. 

He's no stranger to period pieces and previously worked with director Matt Shakman on WandaVision and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Other credits include Chevalier, Ghost in the Shell, Hot Fuzz, and The Spectacular Now. 

The news that he'll serve as The Fantastic Four's Director of Photography comes our way from Hall's website. Shakman and Hall reteaming isn't a surprise, and based on her work in WandaVision, he won't struggle to make this movie look visually distinct.

Rosenberg joined Hulu in 2016. Throughout his time at the streamer, he helped to shape the comedy brand and oversaw the development and production of Hulu Originals series such as Pen15, Ramy, Only Murders In The Building, Pam & Tommy, This Fool and Solar Opposites.

Previously, Rosenberg ran The Lonely Island’s company Party Over Here. In his two years there, Rosenberg produced a number of pilot presentations under the company’s deal when it was with Fbc, including I’m Sorry that was ordered to series at TruTV, and the Freeform pilot Alone Together starring Esther Povitsky and Benji Aflalo.

Hulu comedy head Billy Rosenberg is exiting the streamer after more than seven years. Rosenberg, who most recently served as senior VP of comedy for Hulu Originals, has not yet been replaced.

Rosenberg’s tenure at Hulu came with the elevation of the streamer’s comedy brand, as he developed hits including “Pen15,” “Ramy,” “Only Murders In The Building,” “Pam & Tommy,” “This Fool” and “Solar Opposites.”

He initially joined as director of comedy at Hulu Originals. Prior to being tapped by Hulu, Rosenberg ran The Lonely Island’s comedy Party Over Here, as head of development and production. Working closely with Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone for two years, the television and film producer executive produced a number of pilot presentations under their Fox deal. He also produced the feature film “Brigsby Bear” with then-“Saturday Night Live” cast member Kyle Mooney, and collaborated with Joe Swanberg on his Netflix series “Easy.

Shailene Woodley, Ben Foster and Pablo Schreiber will join the previously announced Alan Ritchson in the action thriller “Motor City.”

CinemaCon Managing Director Mitch Neuhauser confirmed that Levy will be honored at the NATO convention on Aprill 11, as part of the Big Screen Achievement Awards ceremony at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

After directing three “Night at the Museum” movies, Shawn Levy didn’t want to be confined to directing family comedies for the rest of his career. If you’re doing something successfully, he told IndieWire, it’s easy to be “pigeonholed” by Hollywood into that one thing.

But he’s been far from limited under the banner of his own production company, 21 Laps. Levy and his company have been prolific hit-makers since it launched in 2006, and he has produced and directed everything from indie darlings (“The Spectacular Now”), ambitious Best Picture nominees (“Arrival”), studio blockbuster satires (“Free Guy“), prestige limited series (“All the Light We Cannot See”), Stephen King horror movies (“The Boogeyman”), and the biggest Netflix show ever (“Stranger Things”), all of which depart from the family-friendly event movies on which he cut his teeth.

“You need to refuse to be limited by everyone else’s assumptions,” Levy told IndieWire during a recent interview.

Based on the best-selling novel by Bonnie Garmus, “Lessons in Chemistry” combines science and cooking in a great experiment. Brie Larson stars as intensely intelligent Elizabeth Zott, a woman bound to make waves wherever she goes because of her high Iq as well as her beauty. Larson also executive produced the Apple TV+ drama series, whose showrunner is Lee Eisenberg. Eight episodes unfold to tell the emotional and unexpected story of Elizabeth Zott, a Hastings lab technician (and really PhD-level chemist) who transforms into a television celebrity cook.

Woodley, who was previously at Hyperion Talent Agency, made her film debut in Alexander Payne’s The Descendants, alongside George Clooney, in 2011. For her breakout performance in the film, she won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female and was nominated for a Golden Globe, SAG Award, and a Critics’ Choice Award.

She gained widespread recognition for her starring role in the 2014 romantic drama The Fault in Our Stars in the role of Hazel Grace Lancaster. TV’s Spanish-language Univision network will broadcast Super Bowl Lvii next year, adding a new entrant to the usual coterie of English-language outlets that show the game.

The deal was struck in partnership with the NFL and CBS Sports, which has the rights to show the game in English.

The details were released as part of TelevisaUnivision’s annual “upfront” presentation, when U.S. networks try to sell the bulk of their commercial programming ahead of their next programming cycle.
