When Kelsea Ballerini first emerged a decade ago, she got compared to Taylor Swift, but her pop-wise country has been defined less by big artistic swings than low-key relatability. On career highlights like the 2016 infantilized bad-boy takedown “Peter Pan,” the playful 2022 Thelma and Louise/”Goodbye Earl” riff “If You Go Down (I’m Going Down Too”), or the Kenny Chesney-abetted study in ambivalent small-town allegiance, “Half of My Hometown,” she’s always been able to maintain an evenhanded optimistic presence, even when crafting songs out of life’s less-than-upbeat moments.

School’s out for summer in season three of Bel-Air when it finds its lead characters, Will Smith (Jabari Banks) and Carlton Banks (Olly Sholotan), begrudgingly working at a country club at Uncle Phil’s (Adrian Holmes) urging, rather than wreaking havoc in the classroom.
“We were all excited for summer in Bel-Air because we’ve never done that before,” showrunner Carla Banks Waddles tells The Hollywood Reporter. “We’ve always been in the school hallways and in school uniforms. As congress continues to search for a replacement House Speaker, two frontrunners emerged last week, in the form of Rep. Jim Jordan and Rep. Steve Scalise. Both options were pretty bleak for John Oliver, especially considering the latter candidate has previously likened himself to the former leader of the Ku Klux Klan.
To kick off his second episode of “Last Week Tonight,” Oliver immediately got into Kevin McCarthy’s ouster, first poking fun at Patrick McHenry, who is filling the role in the interim.
Oliver joked that he looks like “Patton Oswalt as a ventriloquist dummy” and, like most of the late night hosts did this week, had a laugh at how hard McHenry slammed the gavel to adjourn the House after McCarthy was booted. The late night host then turned his attention to Jordan and Scalise, pointing out that Scalise was once equated to “David Duke without the baggage.

After winning The Masked Singer season 9, multi-platinum artist Bishop Briggs, who performed as the mystical Medusa, explained how she wanted to use her platform on the show to empower women. Bishop made history as the first contestant ever to be saved by the Masked Singer panelists with the Ding Dong Keep It On Bell. As an underdog, she then fought her way back into the competition, eventually earning the Golden Mask trophy. As Medusa, Bishop hypnotized the audience with her incredible performances of "Happier Than Ever," "Dancing Queen," "New York, New York," "Mercy," "Someone Like You," "Take Me to Church," "Elastic Heart," and "Welcome to the Black Parade."
In an interview with HollywoodLife, Bishop admitted that she joined The Masked Singer as Medusa six months after giving birth to her son, which inspired her to empower women. The "River" singer said, "I filmed the show when I was six months postpartum,...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the Season 9, episode 14 season finale of “The Masked Singer,” which aired May 17 on Fox.
Like a river, Bishop Briggs kept a steady flow throughout Season 9 of Fox’s “The Masked Singer” — and her perseverance was rewarded with the championship. Briggs, as Medusa, won this season’s top prize and was finally unmasked on Wednesday night’s finale, along with runner-up David Archuleta, revealed as the Macaw.
Briggs, who performed the most of any contestant this season, sealed her victory with performances of “Elastic Heart,” by Sia, and “Welcome to the Black Parade,” by My Chemical Romance. Although Briggs said singing under the Medusa costume was a challenge, she pointed out that it was nothing compared to what she did last year.

Jerry Springer, the former Cincinnati news anchor and mayor who became best known for his controversial daytime talk show, has died at the age of 79.
Springer died peacefully Thursday at his home in suburban Chicago after a “brief illness,” a spokesperson confirmed to TheWrap. A source told TheWrap that Springer was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
“Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word,” Jene Galvin, a lifelong friend and spokesperson for the family said. “He’s irreplaceable and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart and humor will live on.”

Winner of the Balanghai Trophy for Best Screenplay at the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, “Baggage” is a film that moves in two axes: motherhood and Philippino social institutions.

Mercy Abbunag has just returned home in the Philippines after spending years working abroad and her family is throwing her a party. However, members of the National Bureau of Investigation suddenly appear and ask Mercy to join them on an investigation about a newborn that was dumped into the dustbin of the plane she was boarding. The case has already made the news and has shocked public opinion. As Mercy interacts with various institutions that include the police, a hospital in Manila, social workers who eventually bring her to an asylum where (psychologically) traumatized women live, politicians, the press and her own family, a terrible secret comes to the fore and her...

The award for Best Drama Guest Actress was first presented at the 41st Primetime Emmy Awards in 1989, after years of the category going through various changes including mixing genders and lengths of appearances. Samira Wiley (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) would at the age of 31 become the youngest actress to win in this category, or if changes are taken into consideration, the youngest actress to win since Kathryn Walker. Wiley is nominated alongside two co-stars, Kelly Jenrette and Cherry Jones, as well as Viola Davis (“Scandal”), Diana Rigg (“Game of Thrones”) and Cicely Tyson (“How to Get Away With Murder”).

In “Baggage,” June (Elisabeth Moss) reflects on her tumultuous relationship with her mother, Holly (Jones), as she tries to escape from Gilead. A doctor at an abortion clinic, Holly is a rabble-rousing feminist fighting the horrific change she sees coming. She urges her daughter to get more involved rather than “settle” for a job as an assistant editor and marriage to Luke (O-t Fagbenle). Later, when it’s too late and June has been made a handmaid, she’s shown an orientation slideshow by Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) detailing how pollution has ruined the earth, and is horrified to see her mother laboring in one of the colonies.

Because this week, The Handmaid’s Tale stuffs the former ‘maid into a plane’s cargo hold and promises her freedom… until a hail of bullets brings her voyage on Get Me the Hell Outta Here Airlines ends abruptly — and far short of its desired destination.

One of the themes of Season 2 of “The Handmaid’s Tale” is “Gilead is within you” and you can’t ever escape it. That seems to be the case for Samira Wiley’s Moira in Episode 3, who decides to go by Ruby again — the name she took on while being forced to work at a brothel in the dystopian society that was once the United States.
“I think that that, specifically that episode, is highlighting the other part of freedom that I was talking about, in terms of the loneliness and in that episode she definitely wants to connect with someone else,” Wiley told TheWrap in a recent interview. “But then she realizes that this connection is with a stranger and she doesn’t know if she feels comfortable enough to go there with her and be open with who she is, so that’s why she reverts to being Ruby.”
In Wednesday’s installment, titled “Baggage,” Wiley’s character is seen living in Canada with her best friend June’s (Elisabeth Moss) husband Luke (O-t Fagbenle). While the two are safe and trying to lead a normal life after escaping to the Great White North, it’s easier said than done. And when Moira goes out to a club one night and has a sexual encounter with a woman, when her potential new love interest asks for her name to stay in touch she respond with the moniker she used while forced to entertain the elite men of Gilead at Jezebels.

“The Handmaid’s Tale” has three strong contenders this year in the Emmy race for Best Drama Guest Actress, having won the category last year for Alexis Bledel’s role in the first season. Bledel was promoted to the main cast for the in-progress second season and is expected to reap a nomination for Best Drama Supporting Actress this summer. Bit players looking to assume her mantle are:
Cherry Jones as Holly Osborne
Jones has five minutes of screen time in the season’s third episode, titled “Baggage.” Holly is a brash feminist who is disapproving of her daughter June’s (Elisabeth Moss) career path and fiancé Luke Bankole (O-t Fagbenle) in flashbacks. Jones won the Emmy for Best Drama Supporting Actress in 2009 for “24.” For “Transparent,” Jones shared in a 2015 Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Best Comedy Ensemble and was nominated for a 2015 Critics’ Choice Award for Best Comedy Guest Actress.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read until you’ve watched “Baggage,” the third episode of season two of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
After three episodes of being on the run, June/Offred (Elisabeth Moss) has been captured — and will be sent back to her commander’s house in Gilead.
“This is a police state that really wants to hold onto these handmaids. The chances are that they would catch her — the chances are that she wouldn’t even get away,” showrunner Bruce Miller tells Variety. “We felt like she got away for a long time — she was much more successful than they ever would have wanted her to be in a totalitarian state. So our decision [to have her captured now] was just based on what the reality would be.”

(Major spoiler alert: Please do not read ahead unless you’ve seen “Unwomen,” the second episode of Season 2 of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”)
The Colonies of Gilead — radioactive wastelands being cleaned up by condemned criminals — are not places women are meant to survive. And the fastest way to cut your life expectancy even shorter in these toxic prisons is to get on Ofglen/Emily’s (Alexis Bledel) bad side. Too bad no one told that to Marisa Tomei when she guest starred on “Unwomen,” the second episode of Season 2 of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
“Well, Emily has been traumatized again and again to such a degree that you know, I think part of her spirit has broken,” Bledel told TheWrap in an interview ahead of the Hulu series’ sophomore premiere Wednesday.
“She’s really decided to take justice into her own hands. So when Marisa Tomei’s character arrives, a wife — which is very unusual in the Colonies — it does sort of trigger something in her mind and she does sort of formulate this, not so much a plan, but she makes a decision to kind of take her down. You don’t know that until the end of the episode.”

The installment saw Emily (Bledel) — a former handmaid banished to the Colonies for several acts of rebellion — meet a Wife (Tomei) who has also been sent there for cheating on her husband. Emily was a cellular biologist before the creation of Gilead and now serves as an ad hoc medic to her fellow prisoners. That background comes in handy when she decides to get her revenge on the Wife for the part she’s played in promoting and supporting Gilead’s misogynist nightmare.
Emily tells the Wife that the water in their barracks is full of E. Coli, and gives her pills to take to stave off infection, saying it’s because “a mistress was kind” to her once.
Later that night, Emily finds the woman vomiting and reveals that she has actually given the Wife poison. “Every month you held a woman down while your husband raped her. Some things can’t be forgiven.”

Bledel said that the episode had her on her toes as Emily, “has this care-taking energy one moment, and little do you know she’s plotting this violent act at the next. She’s an extremely complex character.”
Watch Bledel’s interview above and check back at TheWrap next Wednesday at 10:10 am Pt for a new interview with “The Handmaid’s Tale” actress Samira Wiley about Episode 3, “Baggage.”

Shock talk show host Jerry Springer is no stranger to outrageous behavior - especially nudity. So, when he saw the photos of Prince Harry rubbing on ladies while naked in the privacy of his own VIP suite in Las Vegas, the veteran TV host was astounded people made it into such a big deal. "Honestly, what did he do?" Springer, 68, told People on Thursday. "He was in his own room. I don't know what the scandal is. He wasn't with anyone he shouldn't have been with. There wasn't any sexual activity that was inappropriate." Springer's talk show featured a 2010 episode titled "Stripper Spectacular.

Here we go, "Bachelorette" fans. Emily Maynard has to choose (or not choose) between the final two men, Arie Luyendyk and Jef Holm. And for the first time ever, "After the Final Rose" is live, brought to you by the not-yet-ready-for-primetime players.
It's most likely live because of some big surprise twist -- do you think it's 'cause Emily chooses one guy initially, then pulls a Jason Mesnick? Or Jefff and Arie found love and ran off together? Or perhaps Emily fell deeply in love with Chris Harrison and they get married on the spot? (That'd be rather amazing, actually.)
Pics: 'Bachelor Pad' Season 3 contestants
We kick things off with Harrison billing this as "the most dramatic television event of the summer." Until some girl goes crazypants on "Bachelor Pad" and stabs Kalon. Or, ya know, the Olympics.
Won't be addressing the Colorado shooting shout-out -- it's weird to mention it,...

It's time for "The Bachelorette: Men Tell All" reunion special, gang. Can you believe there are two hours of this nonsense? Strap in. And have a glass of wine for me.
Chris Harrison kicks things off by asking the audience who wants to finally see Emily Maynard find love? And then he says the American people do too. Well, yes -- does that mean she'll go away then? There is then a pre-taped chitchat where Emily recaps the season. I shall not be recapping the recap.
The Outtakes
They show Emily spilling wine on her gorgeous pink ballgown and then swearing about it, which -- those moments would go a long way to making her more human. They really should've included that. Turns out the egg thing with Travis was even creepier than we ever knew. Dude.Chris is a terrible dancer, but he does get huge credit for trying.
