Originally titled Lake Alice, this unassuming horror film is actually the latest in a long line of seasonal slashers set at that most festive of times… Christmas.

Lake Tomahawk – from former actor turned director Ben Milliken (Newcastle, Blue Crush 2) – follows Ryan Emerson (Schmidt) who, while meeting his girlfriend Sarah’s (Tudor) family for the first time, must prove his intentions and win the approval of her father, Greg (O’Brien), while he masks his jealousy for Sarah’s ex-fling, Tyler (Eaton). As the Thomas family settles in, things start to happen around the cabin; strange footprints by the windows, noises from outside, and a bitter animosity from the locals, including the law enforcement. As a blizzard descends on Lake Alice so does the evil…...

It's been a long time coming but at least as every day passes it gets us one day nearer to the release of Adam Wingard's new home invasion horror (with a twist) 'You're Next'. Lionsgate have revealed a couple of new stills from the feature which is expected on 23 August 2013. Australian Singapore co-production Bait 3D, a sharksploitation disaster film continues its strong run at the Chinese box office, taking nearly $20m with over 2.77m tickets purchased. The film is ranked number one and its success has meant the producers have already announced a second.

The announcement:

Bait 3D, which first screened publicly to enthusiastic audiences who gave the film standing ovations at sold out screenings at the Venice Film Festival is now taking a bite out of international box offices since its recent releases in Italy, the Us, Australia, The Netherlands, Kuwait, Malaysia, Russia and especially China.

The film is currently ranked #1 (for the week of October 15-21) in China and has taken in nearly $20M since its premiere in the region 10 days ago and made over $10M last week alone. There have been over 2,770,000 tickets purchased.

There's a good chance Sharni Vinson could kick your ass.  No, I'm serious.  Although this Australian actress also starred in Step Up 3D, Shock Till You Drop was first introduced to her in You're Next, the festival darling that is not due to hit theaters until August 2012.  In that film, her character has a few surprises up her sleeve.  It turns out, she can hold her own against a handful of bad guys quite well.  The same could be said for her turn in Bait 3D, just swap out "bad guys" and toss in a great white shark or two and you'll find Vinson back in survivalist mode once again.  

But back to that ass kicking.  Her early days found her dancing and swimming - a real pro athelete growing up.  Then the acting bug hit and she began to use her physicality in films like the aforementioned Step Up...

Last year when Lionsgate had acquired the rights to Adam Wingard's horror/thriller 'You're Next' we were all expecting an Autumn 2012 release. Of course with Halloween only a few weeks ago those original plans have obviously been shelved. However, today we see the reveal of an official release date and can finally put an entry in our diaries as to when we can catch sexy Aussie star Sharni Vinson -below ('Blue Crush 2', 'Bait 3D') in action once more. So drum roll please...the release date is 23 August 2013. Yes I know it's nearly still a year away but at least its locked in. Anchor Bay Films are set to unleash Kimble Rendall's Australian shark flick 'Bait' into homes this coming September. Coming your way in all sorts of forms such as DVD, Blu-ray, DVD and Blu-ray Combo pack and of course on Blu-ray 3D the thriller with bite sadly has a notably lacklustre list of bonus features which don't appear to stretch much further than a gallery of storyboards. Hopefully more is planned for the release when it hits all of these modern day digitial discs on 18 September across the Us. No word just yet on a UK release but I would envisage this going straight to DVD as well probably around October time. The Anchor Bay Entertainment Blu-ray release of director David Mueller's 2011 surfing drama "Beautiful Wave" is now available, starring Aimee Teegarden ("Friday Night Lights").

The 'coming of age story' follows "...one teen’s journey in search of her future, herself and the healing power of a beautiful wave :

"...'Nicole', a shy New York City high school student still mourning the drowning death of her beloved dad, is sent to California to spend the summer with the free-spirited grandmother she barely knows. Anchor Bay have picked up Us distribution rights for Kimble Rendall's ('Cut') new Aussie-set tiger shark thriller 'Bait'. The 3D feature has been kicking around for a while now and is set for a domestic theatrical release in Australia on 6 September. Universal Home Entertainment is gearing up for an all-new wolf man movie called (simply) Werewolf, which will be apart of their great new line of quality Dtv films like Death Race 2, Blue Crush 2, Scorpion King 3, and Death Race 3.

MovieHole has learned that Scarface‘s Steven Bauer will play a werewolf hunter in the film, which is going to film in Romania for five weeks soon. Also, Bauer confirmed that Stephen Rae and Ed Quinn are also in the film.

Even with the poor reception at the box office for Joe Johnston’s Wolf Man reboot, Uni is still keen on keeping their rusty old monsters alive, and that’s kind of cool. Hopefully, this will have that spark that the Wolf Man redo did not.

Universal has an exciting new Dtv line, which has featured Death Race 2, Blue Crush 2, and the upcoming Death Race 3 and Scorpion King 3, that deliver theatrical quality to the Dtv movies. After a critical and financial failure that was 2010′s Wolfman from director Joe Johnston, which however won an Oscar for Best Make-up, Universal is aiming to give the hairy one another shot.

The new film called Werewolf will start shooting this September in Romania, and Bloody-Disgusting has the film’s first plot details.

“The film will take place in a 1901 Romania with the lead character, “Daniel,” caring for his sick mother and attending medical school. Daniel is then recruited to join a group of nomad bounty-hunters tracking down “a disturbing presence” terrorizing the town. Daniel and “Charles” quickly bond and must work together to uncover who this new breed of werewolf is.”

The Film:

Gone are the days of Gidget or the awesome drive-in features from American International Pictures of summer fun, the ocean, and beautiful girls in bikinis, yet nearly a decade ago Blue Crush tried to fill this little void. It had the girls in bikinis (Kate Bosworth, Michelle Rodriguez). It had the ocean, which they used the sub-culture of surfing as a backdrop. Yet it wasn’t really summer fun, since that film was unfocused and needlessly over-dramatic. Would an in-name only sequel overcome those issues and bring in some summer fun to the party? Surprisingly, yes, and Blue Crush 2 is a great little film waiting to be seen.

Blue Crush 2 isn’t the most original film out there, or within the Beach Party genre, but it hits all of the right notes, for a breezy, perhaps predictable fun time. Whatever demons the Kate Bosworth character was chasing in the original film,...

In 2002, a film based on a magazine article was released in Blue Crush, starring Kate Bosworth and Michelle Rodriguez. Bikinis, surfing, exotic locations, what’s not to like? Nearly 9 years later, Universal is stepping back into the surf culture with Blue Crush 2, which stars equally as hot starlets, in Elizabeth Mathis (Unstoppable), Sharnie Vinson (Step Up 3D and the upcoming Bait 3D), and Sasha Jackson (TV’s One Tree Hill).

The film’s plot: Haunted by the memory of her deceased mother, Dana (Jackson) leaves Malibu behind and heads to South Africa to fulfill her mother’s dream of surfing Jeffery’s Bay.

Killer Film caught up with the film’s star Sasha Jackson to talk about her co-stars, the South African locations, and everything else on Blue Crush 2.

Jon: How did Blue Crush 2 come to you and what got you excited to sign on to play Dana?...

Last time we did this you chose The Other Woman -- curse you!!! -- but we'll do this bi-weekly because I aim to please. The following films debuted on DVD yesterday or last week. Which are you planning to watch? Which would you have me watch/write up?

Biutiful -in which Javier Bardem gives Job a run for his money in the personal misery department. Sounds like a laugh riot. Blue Crush 2 -in which... well, surfer girls! Three of them. The Company Men - in which rich famous-looking guys lose their jobs and must rebuild their lives. It's hard being super rich and then not quite as rich, okay !?! Drive Angry - in which Nicolas Cage and Amber Heard put medal to the pedal and chase after a cult leader in some sort of exploitation movie. 3D only obviously not now that it's for home viewing. Just Go With It...

After the lackluster success, both in box office returns and reviews, Universal was planning still another Wolfman film (here), but was it going to be a sequel (like we heard here) or a reboot?

The Moviehole is claiming Universal is going ahead with another reboot of the character, as Michael Tabb’s script is being rewritten and reworked to be an original film, although look for tying connections to the 1941 classic.

No title or star yet, but Universal is looking at directors soon. This will most likely be apart of their new Dtv line, like Death Race 2, Blue Crush 2, and The Scorpion King 3.

Despite James Cameron’s name being plastered all over this film’s marketing, it lacks his quality. Based on a true story, the film is rather interesting in concept than execution.

Monkey Business (1931) Quick Thoughts: Last week I mentioned how Universal was releasing five Marx brothers movies on DVD this coming Tuesday. I had just watched Duck Soup and this week I followed that up with Monkey Business, which I believe is "laugh out loud" funnier than Duck Soup, but on a whole I'd say Duck Soup is a better and funnier film, but then again, there really is no reason to compare the two.

Hollywood heartthrob Josh Hartnett has sparked rumors of a new romance with model-turned-actress Katharina Damm. Damm, who has a featured role in upcoming movie "Blue Crush 2", reportedly met the actor earlier this year at a party he hosted, and a source tells the New York Post the couple's relationship has heated up in recent months.

Hartnett's love life previously hit headlines when he was linked to actress Abbie Cornish back in April, and he was linked romantically to model Helena Christensen and Kirsten Dunst back in 2009.

The anticipated sequel to the 2002 surfer film "Blue Crush" is coming to Blu-ray and DVD. The follow-up film, currently filming on location in South Africa, will feature bone crushing waves and adrenaline pumping adventure in spring 2011.

Directed by produced by Mike Elliott, "Blue Crush 2" stars Sasha Jackson as an award-winning teen surfer who flees her Beverly Hills home for the beaches of South Africa, her late mother's home country, when her father pressures her to go to college.

Sharni Vinson, Elizabeth Mathis, Ben Milliken, and newcomer Chris Fisher also star, while some of the world-class female surfers from the Roxy team - Sally Fitzgibbons, Laura Enever, Bianca Buitendag, Rosy Hodge, Tanika Hoffman, and Danielle Le Roux - are also featured.
