Both Zoolander films feature villainous fashion designers named after minor characters from Star Trek: La serie original (1966). Jacobim Mugatu was named after a gorilla-like creature that appeared in season two, episode nineteen, "A Private Little War", while Alexanya Atoz was named after the librarian from season three, episode twenty-three, "All Our Yesterdays".
