Did Kevin Kart almost die while Lift’s filming? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
On The Graham Norton Show, Kevin Hart opened up about a terrifying moment when the plane’s front wheel broke during landing, sending flames shooting out. “I almost died,” Hart said, recalling how he calmly accepted the situation. “It was one of those moments when I thought, ‘This is it.’” And just like that, he was cool with it—no panic, just pure calm.
While Hart’s near-death experience sounds like something out of a movie, it’s Lift that’s all about high stakes in the air. In the film, a group of criminals tries to steal $500 million in gold from a vault on a plane at 40,000 feet. Hart plays Cyrus, a mob boss who leads the heist. But here’s the twist—this movie marks Hart’s first serious role. “In this film, I’m an action star.

If nothing else, you can at least make the case that Netflix viewers have a certain kind of diverse taste. While the current situation is pretty dire, with Cameron Diaz's first movie in 11 years dominating the Netflix charts despite terrible reviews, last year we saw the director of "Green Room" top the same charts with the excellent action thriller "Rebel Ridge." Likewise, movies such as Kevin Hart's "Lift" enjoy baffling success on the streamer but so too do stellar sci-fi epics directed by Christopher Nolan, such as when "Interstellar" topped the Netflix charts to start 2025.
In all, then, Netflix is an infinitely fascinating yet confounding landscape -- one that's populated by the kind of streaming slop responsible for watering down the entire concept of moviemaking, yet also capable of exposing global audiences to Academy Award nominated films such as the Spanish drama "Society of the Snow." Now, the...

Brandon Sanderson's latest book in the Stormlight Archive series has prepared one of the main heroes for the next sequence. Not much is known about the contents of The Stormlight Archive sequence 2, aside from a few major facts. Like the first arc, sequence 2 will have five volumes, concluding events on Roshar in book 10. The next five books will pick up after a ten-year in-world time jump, meaning characters will be aged up when readers see them next, following the events of Wind and Truth's climactic ending.
According to Brandon Sanderson's annual State of Sanderson blog post, readers shouldn't expect the next Stormlight Archive book until late 2031, meaning quite a long wait for volume 6. That being said, there's plenty of time to speculate and discuss the possibilities going forward, especially given how The Stormlight Archive's character arcs so far have set up much of the foundation for the next five volumes.

In 2022, Nicolas Cage played Nicolas Cage in "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent," a delightful comedy outing that saw the veteran star come across as what /Film's Jacob Hall described as "often nuanced, generally restrained, and painfully, awkwardly human." That's quite an accomplishment for Cage, who has been known for anything but his restraint in the last couple of decades. Even when he starred in the most terrifying horror movie of 2024, "Longlegs," he played the mysterious and creepy serial killer with an over-the-top relish. I went into that theater wondering if we'd see some kind of uncharacteristic restraint on Cage's behalf, but after he started scream-singing five minutes into the movie I thought, "Nope!" Not to say his performance was bad, but if you saw him in David Gordon Green's 2013 effort "Joe," you might too be hoping for more of the quietly brooding older Nic Cage and less of...

Netflix’s best movies in January 2025 mark the beginning of an exciting new year for the streaming service. Netflix remains the biggest name in the streaming game, and while it has a lot of competition these days, it still delivers big titles with both its acquired movies and the original movies it continues to churn out. January 2025 shows a nice mix of both, with something for fans of all tastes and across all genres.
There has been a lot of big news on the television side of Netflix in recent weeks, with Stranger Things officially wrapping its filming of the final season, reminding fans that 2025 will see the streamers’ biggest series come to an end, along with the end of its oldest series, Cobra Kai. However, January shows the movie side of Netflix is still strong with some buzzworthy and hit original titles that subscribers can enjoy in the first...

As beloved of a figure as he is in Hollywood’s entertainment industry, Kevin Hart hardly has any feud with his fellow industry goers thanks to his amicable personality. But his fellow stand-up comedian cum actor Katt Williams seems to have tested just his patience, as the pair have reportedly had a long-ongoing ugly feud for around more than a decade now.

Hollywood has seen plenty of relationships with big age gaps, but when it comes to older women dating younger men, people suddenly tend to have different and negative reactions. At least that is what Sienna Miller herself felt when she initially got together with her boyfriend Oli Green, who is 15 years her junior.

Every Baldur's Gate 3 class can be great when given the chance, and this is especially true of the least-played option. While options like the monk and ranger have been famously divisive, they aren't actually the ones at the very bottom of the popularity contest. Instead, the least love has been shown to clerics, typically thought of as the primary healers in Baldur's Gate 3 and its tabletop source, Dungeons & Dragons.
It's sad to see one of the classes with the most potential for combat and world immersion go so unloved. Though there is a cleric companion, the paladin, fighter, rogue, and barbarian were also popular choices despite there already being companions of those classes in the game. Ultimately, however, there's a great reason to play a cleric in Baldur's Gate 3.

The Force is strong with Simon Kinberg.
Lucasfilm has hired the prolific writer and producer to write and produce a new trilogy of “Star Wars” films. An early report insinuated are that this will actually be chapters 10 – 12 of the Skywalker Saga, continuing the path that most recently concluded with “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019. But there are others that insist this is a standalone series, something akin to the trilogies that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and, separately, Rian Johnson, were working on for the company. It is being referred to as a “new saga.”
Kinberg is no stranger to “Star Wars.” Following the acquisition of Lucasfilm by Disney, Kinberg was part of a small brain trust that was working on new projects for the studio. He consulted on J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and co-created the animated series “Star Wars: Rebels” with Dave Filoni.

For years, Kevin Hart has long been one of Hollywood’s most beloved comedians, known for his stand-up, acting roles, and massive social media presence. With the star even teaming up with Chris Rock for his latest documentary, Kevin Hart & Chris Rock: Headliners Only, the 45-year-old once again made waves. However, in recent months, another celebrity has let loose a strange theory online, claiming that the comedian is actually an “industry plant.” The term is typically reserved for musicians who are allegedly groomed by major labels for success.

NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock had a big July and a massive August thanks almost exclusively to the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. Netflix had an equally massive January-to-June, in part because of all NBCUniversal’s animated movies available on the streamer.

It lists every show or movie watched on Netflix around the globe, how many views each had, and for how many hours they were watched. Light reading material for us.
Twice a year, there are endless takeaways from Netflix’s data dump. One of the big ones from this set was just how dominant NBCUniversal’s animated films are — only not on NBCUniversal’s own streaming platform, Peacock.

We hear that reps for WME, CAA, UTA, Paradigm, Verve, Gersh and other agencies as well as a number of the large management companies are heading to a breakfast event – titled Netflix Explained – at the Tudum Theater tomorrow morning.
Billed as an event aimed at providing talent representatives with better understanding how Netflix operates, agents and managers are expecting information about more transparency on how the streamer pays their talent.

Are there millions of people hate-watching movies on Netflix?
Two of the streaming giant’s original films, sci-fi feature “Atlas,” starring Jennifer Lopez, and romantic comedy “Mother of the Bride,” starring Brooke Shields and Miranda Cosgrove, garnered notably poor reviews and audience-rating scores. But both were among the most popular films on Netflix in the first half of 2024, according to the company’s latest massive data report: “Atlas” registered 77.1 million views worldwide and “Mother of the Bride” had 77.7 million.
Those metrics put both in the top 10 of Netflix’s most-watched movies for the first six months of the year — all the more remarkable because the report measured less than two months of viewing for those two titles: “Mother of the Bride” debuted May 9 and “Atlas” dropped on May 24.
“Atlas” has a meager 19% critics score (based on 110 reviews) on Rotten Tomatoes, and “Mother of the Bride” is even lower at 13% (48 reviews...

Some of the data points were unsurprising – we knew Brown’s “Damsel” was a huge hit, and indeed it was the most-watched film for the first half of the year. But others were interesting, like just how heavily Netflix’s streaming partnership with Universal factors into what’s being watched and the relative success of Zack Snyder’s “Rebel Moon” films.
Below, we thumb through the biggest winners on the film side of the data dump.

After notching another successful Netflix original movie in 2024 with Atlas, Jennifer Lopez is setting her Netflix return and getting back to her rom-com roots. The global superstar has been a romantic comedy staple and has shared the screen with many talented and handsome leading men, and this time around, she's working alongside a very funny Ted Lasso star.
Deadline reports that Lopez is set to star in the Netflix romantic comedy Office Romance with Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein, who's also co-writing the new movie. While there's no official synopsis for the upcoming rom-com yet, Deadline refers to Office Romance as "irreverent." Maybe Lopez and Goldstein's characters will be like Jim and Pam in another wacky office environment!
As with most of her movies, Lopez will executive produce Office Romance under her Nuyorican Films banner, which has a first-look deal with Netflix. Goldstein wrote the script with Joe Kelly,...

When Kevin Hart started out, he made himself the butt of most of the jokes in his self-deprecating standup routines. Now, he fancies himself as a Hip Hop mogul type, launching businesses left and right and producing a steady stream of TV shows and films. Unfortunately, this flurry of output in recent years hasn't all been that great. Earlier this year, Hart starred in "Lift," which topped the Netflix charts despite being yet another generic streaming flick quickly buried by the tide of "content" spewing forth in the streaming age. Prior to that, Hart tried to bring an air of prestige to his streaming exploits by convincing Wesley Snipes to play his brother in Netflix limited series "True Story." Sadly for the comedian, Snipes proved to be the best thing about the show.
But none of this has deterred Hart. He's hosting Peacock chat shows, playing vault hunters in the...

The Mission: Impossible franchise is the pinnacle of action cinema in Hollywood. There’s nobody in the North American film industry who’s doing it like Christopher McQuarrie, Tom Cruise, and everyone that’s ready to put their lives on the line for these two maniacs. That said, there are many who want to copy them without really putting in the effort that’s necessary to create memorable action sequences that feel tangible and realistic as hell. Recently, we got Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which lifted scenes from the M:i franchise via the cheapest-looking visual effects available to mankind. Prime Video products such as Jack Ryan, Role Play, and Citadel have tried to do the same and failed every time. Netflix has been throwing millions of dollars at anyone and everyone so that they can have their very own spy franchise. As a result, we have some of the...

As "Deadpool & Wolverine" continues to obliterate the box office, there's been plenty of time to reminisce about Hugh Jackman's esteemed career. Even "Deadpool & Wolverine" itself included a tribute to one of Jackman's best movies by including a subtle nod to his Oscar-nominated performance as Jean Valjean in 2012's "Les Misérables." The 55-year-old has certainly had a historic Hollywood run, not only delivering critically acclaimed performances, but becoming a true comic book movie legend by defining the role of Logan/Wolverine in his many appearances as the character.
But that doesn't mean everything Jackman has done has been a success. Take 2021's "Reminiscence," for example. This sci-fi thriller was directed by Lisa Joy, who, alongside her husband Jonathan Nolan, co-created "Westworld" and more recently executive produced the massive Prime Video hit "Fallout." Unfortunately, "Reminiscence," which starred Jackman as a veteran and private investigator who offers clients the ability to relive their memories,...

If you're not up for contributing to "Deadpool & Wolverine" absolutely obliterating the box office, you can always turn to streaming for your entertainment fix. Netflix isn't just reheated Michael Fassbender thriller flops, y'know. Sometimes it's also terrible, nightmarish dating shows. I kid ... sort of. The platform that currently dominates the streaming sphere seemingly got the memo about churning out "content" to combat audience churn early, and has been serving up a bewildering array of media on a regular basis for some time, often looking to international sources for some of its most popular offerings.
For example, Italian thriller "Vanished into the Night" recently proved popular on Netflix, while British superhero series "Supacell" similarly made its mark on the streamer's top charts. These are just two recent examples, but Netflix has, to its credit, been introducing audiences to an impressive amount of international media for some time. 2023 saw Mexican drama series "Thursday's Widows" climb the most-watched charts and now the country has once again contributed to Netflix's mission to entertain us all to death with comedy thriller "Non Negotiable.

After literally years of waiting, the "Borderlands" movie is finally upon us. Directed by Eli Roth (with an assist from "Deadpool" director Tim Miller), the feature film based on the wildly popular series of video games arrives on the big screen next weekend. Not only have fans of the games long been waiting to see these characters brought to life, but Lionsgate has been actively working on this adaptation for several years. It's been plagued with delays, but it's now, at long last, going to get its day in court. Unfortunately, based on the early indicators, from a business perspective, it's not going to be a bumpy ride.
"Borderlands" is currently eyeing an opening weekend domestically in the $13 to $18 million range, per Box Office Theory. The big question mark right now is the film's budget, which has yet to be reported. It is estimated to be in the $100 million range.

In the age of streaming abundance, let there be no confusion — Netflix is still the undisputed king of the streaming game. The service has almost 280 million global subscribers, comfortably outpacing its closest competition, Prime Video, which has around 200 million subscribers, and remaining vastly ahead of its other competitors. This means that, for better or worse, Netflix has become the de facto winner of the streaming wars, and somewhat of a tastemaker in its own right. At the very least, it's the closest we'll get to the kind of monoculture we had back in the 90s when everyone was watching the same stuff. If a show or movie hits Netflix and manages to gain any traction, you can bet most people will be talking about it.
This has made things incredibly difficult for other companies trying to get a piece of the streaming action. So far, pretty much everyone else who's...
