Netflix can’t get enough of Harlan Coben. With eight projects already released and plenty more in development, production, or post-production, what harm could one more do? Today, Netflix confirmed it has greenlit its first US adaptation of the 2023 novel I Will Find You, with Avatar star Sam Worthington set to headline.

Entering production early next year, the new limited series will have eight episodes and largely follow the novel’s events. Robert Hull has joined the project, saying in a press release, “I’ve been a fan of Harlan’s novels for as long as I can remember, and the chance to bring this story to life with him, Jinny, Peter, and the incredible team at Netflix has been a dream come true.”

The London TV Screenings are a whirlwind of meetings, screenings, lunches and cocktail bashes for buyers. With so many vying for their attention, one savvy distributor found a novel way to get some quality time with the in-demand execs; provide a taxi service to and from the smorgasbord of events and shop them your wares during the ride.

Belgium-based Be Entertainment is the distrib in question. It got its own cab up and running to ferry buyers to and forth events this week.

Managing Director Gepke Nederlof told Deadline that the “Be-Entertaxi” was its alternative to fixing dozens of coffee meetings or hosting a screening amid the myriad happenings in TV Screenings week.

In March 2024, Netflix confirmed The Life List, a new romantic comedy starring Sofia Carson. The movie is due out on Netflix soon, so we’re here with everything known about it, including the full cast, production updates, plot details, and more on its release date, which is now set for March 28th.

Adam Brooks is on board to both write and direct the project. The Canadian screenwriter and director is no stranger to the romantic comedy space, having written or directed (or both) titles like Definitely, Maybe, and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, plus the Netflix Original movie Nappily Ever After, released in 2018.

Did you hear? Amy Schumer is about to be "Kinda Pregnant." That's how Netflix's Tudum chose to introduce the comedian's new film, and while such a headline might seem so confusing that nobody ever watched the movie, quite the opposite has transpired over on the king of the streaming platforms.

According to the site, the film is "about a woman who fakes a pregnancy — and maybe falls in love," which I can't help but think is all that was said in the pitch meeting before this one got the greenlight. Why? Because "Kinda Pregnant" has a 22% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and perhaps even more damning, a 23% audience score. Which is another way of saying that we have yet another middling streaming film on our hands.

Perhaps it's unfair to be so dismissive. After all, the great Will Forte is in "Kinda Pregnant," and it's produced by Adam Sandler's Happy Madison company.

The drama, produced by AMC Studios, is set inside the bubble of Silicon Valley, amid misguided corporate cultures, moony innovation labs and cutthroat private high schools. It is centered around a rift between a self-appointed “inventor of the future” tech CEO (Billy Magnussen) and his self-serving “performance psychologist” (Goldberg), who are engulfed in a scandal sparked by the exploitation of personal data.

Magnussen’s Duncan is the co-founder of a Silicon Valley data-mining company.

Glatzer and Gina Mingacci executive produce the series, one of several high-profile Silicon Valley-set dramas that were put into development over the last year or so and the first to get a green light.

Magnussen most recently starred in HBO’s superhero movie satire series The Franchise from Sam Mendes and Armando Iannucci.

Netflix is facing competition from Prime Video and I don't just mean in terms of subscriber numbers. The former remains the undisputed winner of the streaming wars, with more than 300 million subscribers, despite the company's insistence on endless price hikes. Seriously, Netflix has become way too expensive for a service that still hasn't apologized for Kevin Hart's "Lift." Prime Video is the closest to challenging Netflix's reign, with 200 million subscribers of its own, but even then it's got a long way to go before it catches its competitor.

Now, it seems Jeff Bezos' streaming platform is challenging Netflix in another way: with instantly forgettable streaming movies. If you're still in doubt as to what such a thing is, 2025 should have already clarified things for you with films like Cameron Diaz's "Back in Action," which dominated the Netflix charts in January despite being horribly reviewed. It's not that all these films are bad.

The writer, director, and stars of "Forrest Gump" regroup after 30 years for a new high-concept drama. You can imagine this premise being easily sold to salivating studio execs. And yet, Robert Zemeckis' "Here" was an abject critical and commercial dud when it debuted in November 2024. What happened? Well, according to critics, the movie is just bad. More specifically it is, according to The Times' Kevin Maher, "like watching the Sims get dementia." What does that mean? You'll have to watch the movie to find out, which you can now readily do over on Netflix.

If, out of pure curiosity, you do decide to stream Zemeckis' misfire, you won't be the only one. Likewise, movies such as Kevin Hart's "Lift" enjoy baffling success on the streamer but so too do stellar sci-fi epics directed by Christopher Nolan, such as when "Interstellar" topped the Netflix charts to start 2025.

In all, then, Netflix is an infinitely fascinating yet confounding landscape -- one that's populated by the kind of streaming slop responsible for watering down the entire concept of moviemaking, yet also capable of exposing global audiences to Academy Award nominated films such as the Spanish drama "Society of the Snow." An early report insinuated are that this will actually be chapters 10 – 12 of the Skywalker Saga, continuing the path that most recently concluded with “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019. But there are others that insist this is a standalone series, something akin to the trilogies that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and, separately, Rian Johnson, were working on for the company. Spanish Oscar nominee Society Of The Snow was among the most watched films on Netflix in the first half of 2024, according to the streamer’s latest viewership data.

Ja Bayona’s real-life disaster drama was at number three in the chart, behind action titles Damsel and Lift, with 103.8 million views. Other notable titles in the top 100 included Sam Esmail’s Leave The World Behind, in 35th place with 40.5 million views, and Richard Linklater’s 2024 Venice premiere Hit Man – 47th with 30.9 million views.

Maestro, which scored seven Oscar nominations, was viewed 5.8 million times in the time period, while double nominee Nyad was on 11.2 million.

Are there millions of people hate-watching movies on Netflix?

Two of the streaming giant’s original films, sci-fi feature “Atlas,” starring Jennifer Lopez, and romantic comedy “Mother of the Bride,” starring Brooke Shields and Miranda Cosgrove, garnered notably poor reviews and audience-rating scores. But both were among the most popular films on Netflix in the first half of 2024, according to the company’s latest massive data report: “Atlas” registered 77.1 million views worldwide and “Mother of the Bride” had 77.7 million.

Those metrics put both in the top 10 of Netflix’s most-watched movies for the first six months of the year — all the more remarkable because the report measured less than two months of viewing for those two titles: “Mother of the Bride” debuted May 9 and “Atlas” dropped on May 24.

Netflix unveiled the first big data dump of 2024 on Thursday, and the engagement report for everything watched in the first half of the year proved that subscribers really love three things: Millie Bobby Brown, sharks and animated movies.

Some of the data points were unsurprising – we knew Brown’s “Damsel” was a huge hit, and indeed it was the most-watched film for the first half of the year. But others were interesting, like just how heavily Netflix’s streaming partnership with Universal factors into what’s being watched and the relative success of Zack Snyder’s “Rebel Moon” films.

Four U.K.-produced series are at the top of the streamer’s internal rankings for January to June, led by Fool Me Once with 107.5 million views worldwide over the course of those six months. Season three of Bridgerton (91.9 million views), Baby Reindeer (87.6 million) and The Gentlemen (75.9 million) round out the top four.

All told, Netflix’s 280 million subscribers watched 94 billion hours’ worth of programming on the service in the first half of the year, up from about 90 billion hours for the second half of 2023. Netflix saw a British invasion in the first six months of the year — with four of its 10 biggest shows globally in the first half of 2024 coming from the U.K.: “Fool Me Once,” the Emmy-winning “Baby Reindeer,” “The Gentlemen” and “One Day.”

In addition, Shonda Rhimes’ U.K.-set “Bridgerton” Season 3 was the No. 2 most-watched show worldwide from January-June 2024. The season notched a whopping 91.9 million views in less than two months following its May 14 premiere. All told, shows in the “Bridgerton” universe garnered 189 million views in the first half of 2024; views in the six-month period for “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” hit 24 million (doubling versus the second half of last year) while views of of “Bridgerton” seasons 1 and 2 jumped fivefold compared with the prior six months.

Netflix released another round of viewership data Thursday afternoon revealing its most-watched films and shows across the first half of 2024.

On the film side, the pack is led by the Millie Bobby Brown-starring Damsel, which clocked more than 143 million views globally, according to the data. The film, also starring Robin Wright and Angela Bassett, was released on the streamer in April and opened strong clocking 35.3M views in just three days of availability.

In second place is F. Gary Gray’s Lift, starring Kevin Hart and Sam Worthington, which clocked 129 million views. The third title on the expansive list is J. A. Bayona’s Society Of Snow with 103 million views. The Spanish-language flick debuted at last year’s Venice Film Festival and was Oscar-nominated. After Society Of Snow, the contemporary shark flick Under Paris clocked 84 million views while Brooke Shields’s romcom Mother of the Bride was watched by 77 million.

Specifically, the Millie Bobby Brown movie was viewed 143.8 million times for a total of 263.7 million hours. As for “Fool Me Once,” it was viewed 107.5 million times for a total of 689.5 million hours.

Netflix dropped its first engagement report of the year on Friday, revealing that people watched over 94 billion hours on Netflix during this six-month time period.

On the movies side, the Kevin Hart and Billy Magnussen heist comedy “Lift” was more widely viewed than “Fool Me Once,” securing 129.4 million views. That was followed by the third most-watched titled “Society of the Snow” at 103.8 million views as well as “Under Paris” at 84.7 million views and the Universal Pictures movie “The Super Mario Bros. The Off Broadway world premiere of the new Robert O’Hara play Shit. Meet. Fan. will feature a cast headed by Garret Dillahunt, Billy Magnussen and Debra Messing, McC Theater announced today.

The play, which will also star Tramell Tillman and Constance Wu, begins previews Thursday October 10, at McC Theater’s Newman Mills Theater, with an opening night on Monday October 28. The limited engagement runs through Sunday November 17.

O’Hara will direct his play, which is based on Paolo Genovese’s 2016 Italian comedy-drama Perfect Strangers. The movie holds the Guinness record for most remade film in cinema history, with more than 24 remakes in different languages.

Also in the cast will be Genevieve Hannelius, most recently seen in the Netflix original film Along for the Ride and the Netflix original series American Vandal. She is perhaps best known for starring on the three-time Emmy-nominated Disney Channel series Dog with a Blog.

When Kevin Hart started out, he made himself the butt of most of the jokes in his self-deprecating standup routines.
