The cast of Lanterns continues to expand as The InSneider brings word today that Jason Ritter (Matlock) has joined the upcoming DC Studios series.
He'll reportedly play the husband of Kelly Macdonald's character; she's been cast as Sheriff Kerry, a character described as "a no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town. Her resilience, shaped by a complex past that’s hardened her resolve, anchors her when the community’s secrets begin to surface."
There had been rumblings about Kerry being a love interest for Hal Jordan, though this news may go some way in debunking that.
Ritter is best known for his Emmy-nominated role in Parenthood. He also counts Gravity Falls, Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, and Frozen II among his film and television credits.

Some actors win Primetime Emmys like rolling out of bed (like Allison Janney or Julia Louis-Dreyfus). Others are frequently nominated but have shockingly never won (like Steve Carell or Hugh Laurie). Then there are those who devote much of their careers to TV without ever sniffing a nod. Courteney Cox, for instance, was the only member of the core sextet on Friends never to be nominated for the show. Lauren Graham went from Gilmore Girls to Parenthood, but the TV Academy never took notice. And Kristen Bell has been a TV star for more than 20 years on multiple shows that have garnered awards buzz — even major nominations. But the attention has never gone her way. For Bell, her fortunes should finally change with Nobody Wants This.
Bell had a breakthrough year in 2004, with a two-episode arc during the first season of Deadwood and then debuted as the title character on Veronica Mars.

Nepo babies have been around as long as there have been artists. The idea of a "legacy" is one we humans simply cannot get away from. As storytelling beings, we will have always constructed -- and will continue to construct -- broad, historical, intergenerational narratives for ourselves. We can't stop tracing our professional and personal origins among the ancients, and writing their stories directly into our own. We simply shed our fascination with the possibility that talents can be passed from one generation to the next.
That's certainly the case in Hollywood, a relatively recent art institution in human history, but still rife with its own multigenerational legacies. It's likely you read the headline above and instantly thought of the Coppola clan. The Coppola family has, as of this writing, accrued 12 Oscar wins and 40 nominations between them, and they currently hold the record for the family with the most members to be nominated for Oscars.

Hollywood has seen a lot of actors and actresses finding more than just onscreen chemistry as they fell in love offscreen too, with some of them even going to become some of the entertainment industry’s most beloved power couples of all time. One of these is none other than Jason Ritter and Melanie Lynskey’s pair, who are a bit too heartwarming to not talk about.

For one that met more than a decade ago, the wholesome couple is still going as strong as ever, and Ritter would, in fact, still fight for his wife if the situation calls for it, as he recently hilariously made clear. But perhaps the cutest part about their being together is when the two first got engaged, which is so winsome and amusing, that it deserves a rom-com treatment!

When German director Frédéric Hambalek first started writing What Marielle Knows, he had no children. By the time the film finally made it to screen, premiering in competition at the Berlin International Film Festival, he had two. As it turned out, Parenthood would shape the film unexpectedly.
In the high-concept dark dramedy, Hambalek carries out a social experiment. The titular teenage girl (played by Laeni Geiseler, a revelation) receives telepathic powers after she’s smacked in the face by her best friend. Suddenly, Marielle has the power to see and hear what her mother, Julia (Julia Jentsch), and father, Tobias (Felix Kramer), are doing, whether they’re off at work, sneaking a smoke and flirting with office colleagues, or engaging in pillow talk in the bedroom with the door closed. Suddenly, under 24/7 observation, Tobias and Julia are forced to confront their hypocrisies and contradictions.

Steve Martin is a ludicrously talented human being. He's a brilliant stand-up comedian, a fine actor, a skilled magician, a masterful humorist (that means he's funny when he writes), an art collector of tremendous discernment and, above all, an assassin with the banjo. He's gone from being an entertainment phenomenon best known for singing about King Tut to an entertainment phenomenon best known for making mirth with Martin Short. In between, he wrote and starred in classic comedy films like "The Jerk," "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid," "The Man with Two Brains," "Roxanne," "L.A. Story" and "Bowfinger," and just plain old acted in "Three Amigos," "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," and "Parenthood."

Family stories have been a television staple for as long as there’s been TV.
They tug at our heartstrings, make us laugh, and remind us that, no matter how chaotic things get, family — whether by blood or by choice — is at the core of the human experience.
But what exactly constitutes “family” has changed dramatically over the years, and television has kept pace, reflecting those shifts in compelling, sometimes groundbreaking ways.
Let’s dive in together and explore how these shows have mirrored our evolving views on what it means to be a family.

Back in the early days of TV, family dramas were practically an extension of a Hallmark card: wholesome, harmonious, and just a little too perfect.
Shows like Leave It to Beaver, Father Knows Best, and The Brady Bunch painted a picture of the ideal nuclear family.

“Nightbitch” is a very compelling dark comedy about the challenges that are inherent to child-rearing, but it is unfortunately saddled with a ridiculous metaphor at its center that drags the pacing to a halt. There may have been a way to spin “Nighbitch” into a more absurdist romp that embraced visceral horror, and it also may have succeeded had it leaned entirely into the drama with an approach that felt more authentic. Unfortunately, “Nighbitch” feels lost somewhere in the middle, leading to a rather unpleasant slog that lacks cohesiveness. While it would be hard to fault the ambition behind its concept, “Nighbitch” is not nearly as shocking, devastating, or funny as it is clearly aiming to be.
Based on the novel of the same name by Rachel Yoder, “Nighbitch” centers on an unnamed mother (Amy Adams) who finds it harder to raise her son (played by twin child actors Arleigh...

These legends of laughter continued to light up the entertainment world, each carving out a legacy that rivals their time on the show.MEGAPeter Boyle Mega
Before Everybody Loves Raymond, Peter Boyle appeared in Joe (1970), The Candidate (1972), Young Frankenstein (1974) and Taxi Driver (1976), as well as on and off-Broadway. Fans adored him in the role of Ray and Robbie's deadpan, slightly cranky dad, Frank.
However, off-screen, he was nothing like his coarse character. Instead, he was a friendly, warmhearted guy.
"He made me feel welcome," said Ray Romano. "He made me feel part of the club."

Ray Romano has come a long way since he played Raymond Barone on his hit sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond.”
Romano, who played a lawyer in Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman, told Vanity Fair he wrote a backstory for the character. It’s a device he’s actually used for each dramatic role he’s played since joining NBC dramedy “Parenthood” in 2012. The only difference was that his role in “The Irishman” was based on a real-life mob attorney. Going through that process for a real person with a thorny past was a much more difficult process than he was used to.
“I don’t want to give the impression that I’m this big actor-y guy. But I do remember Denzel Washington saying it in an interview,” Romano said of the practice. “It really helps me, even if I’m making up stuff that the creator and the writer maybe...

Rosa Salazar (Brand New Cherry Flavor) has been cast as the female lead opposite Matthew Gray Gubler in Einstein, CBS’ crime procedural pilot from the Monk team of creator/executive producer Andy Breckman and director/executive producer Randy Zisk.
In Einstein, a drama with comedic undertones based on the German series of the same name, brilliant but directionless, the great grandson of Albert Einstein (Gubler) spends his days as a comfortably tenured professor until his bad-boy antics land him in trouble with the law and he is pressed into service helping a local police detective (Salazar) solve her most puzzling cases.
Salazar’s Maddie Paris is a Detective Inspector for the New Jersey State Police, who went into law enforcement after the death of her husband. Prime Video has now debuted its TV show remake of the 1999 cult classic film Cruel Intentions, both of which share plot overlap with an Oscar-winning 1988 Keanu Reeves movie. With shows like I Know What You Did Last Summer, Mr & Mrs Smith, and Cross, Amazon Prime Videos original TV show slate is on a streak of reimagining hit 1990s and 2000s movies as modern series. Cruel Intentions is the latest title to join this trend, which adjusts the 1999 Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Reese Witherspoon drama to follow a pair of status-focused wealthy step-siblings at college.
The cast of Cruel Intentions show stars Sarah Catherine Hook as Caroline Merteuil and Zac Burgess as Lucien Belmont, the step-siblings who correspond to Gellars Kathryn and Phillippes Sebastian from the 1999 movie. Back in 1986, David Cronenberg directed a remake of Kurt Neumann’s 1958 sci-fi horror classic The Fly (which was based on George Langelaan’s short story) – and the result is considered to be one of the best remakes of all time. 20th Century Fox, now the Disney subsidiary 20th Century Studios, has been wanting to replicate that success with another remake for a couple of decades now… but the project has never managed to escape from development hell. Cronenberg wanted to come back and make another Fly movie, but it fell apart over budgetary issues. Screenwriter Todd Lincoln wrote a remake of The Fly that he described as a “dark, twisted, grounded re- imagining… Part Val-Lewton, part J.G. Ballard, part Neal Stephenson with some Horror Manga touches.” The studio wasn’t into it. J.D. Dillard was attached to direct a new version of The Fly for years, then stepped away from it.

To hear all about Keanu Reeves, and to celebrate a very cool dude, check out the video embedded above.
As mentioned in the video, Reeves’ acting skills have been criticized, but he has made some great movies and brought to life some iconic characters.

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Chicago Med season 10, episode 5.Chicago Med newcomer Caitlin Lenox (Sarah Ramos) had an emotional moment in season 10, episode 5, that paid homage to Ramos' best-known role. Ramos joined the Chicago Med season 10 cast as a new attending who is not popular with the staff because she wants to reform hospital procedures to make them more effective and save costs. She has often butted heads with other doctors, though she has a good working relationship with Hannah (Jessy Schram).
During Chicago Med season 10, episode 5, the staff was surprised by Lenox's softer side while she was working with a patient in distress. This moment demonstrated that there was more to the character that replaced Chicago Med's Crockett Marcel than her bureaucratic approach to hospital policies suggested. Although Lenox declined to discuss the incident after it was over, it changed the staff's opinion of her. This plot point also had...

If you’re a fan of broadcast TV dramas, then you’re probably aware that the major networks are all about first responders these days.
A quick scan of the year’s top dramas turns up more cops and firefighters than a charity softball game in Central Park.
Throw in doctors, lawyers, lifeguards, and folks with first responder-adjacent jobs (a la Tracker’s Colter Shaw or High Potential‘s Morgan Gillroy), and pretty much every drama on network television is covered.
(Disney/Christopher Willard )
Obviously, TV’s fascination with cops, firefighters, FBI agents, etc. is nothing new.
After all, those people have very interesting jobs, which makes it easy for writers to come up with weekly adventures to enthrall audiences.
And if you’re looking for a hero in 2024, you could do a lot worse than the people who come to the rescue during emergency situations.

A funny thing happened to a bunch of actors before they made it to the podium to accept their Academy Awards. Long before they received the industry’s highest recognition, they appeared in goofy sitcoms that didn’t exactly predict triumphant movie careers.
Here are five actors who eventually took home the Oscar — but not before generating a few canned laughs in front of a live studio audience…

Before Sandra Bullock became one of the highest-paid actresses and one of the most revered ones in Hollywood, she was a struggling performer who had featured in TV films and independent films. The actress got her big breakthrough when she starred in Speed along with Keanu Reeves, which went on to earn $350 million against a $37 million budget.
The action film is best known for its bus stunt sequences and edge-of-the-seat thrilling scenes. The film, along with Point Break, established him as an action hero. While Bullock became a huge star after the film, she joked that she was only chosen because if she died while filming, it would not be a huge headline because she was not a big actor.

TV’s production cycle just ain’t what it used to be, and creator Jason Katims is feeling nostalgic.
You can’t blame him: When Katims spoke with Variety recently, the topic was the 25th anniversary of his teen drama “Roswell,” which had been intended for Fox but ended up on The CW predecessor The WB.
Katims waxed poetic about the days when May’s TV upfronts actually mattered.
“Back in those days, it was this mad scramble where things could change drastically in a matter of hours,” Katims said. “At the time, I thought this was such an absurd system. Now I long for it, because you knew right then whether your show was going to go ahead, and you had to immediately get into production to get it on the air and put something in those time slots.”
Oh man, remember time slots?

February 2009. Legendary late-night talk show host David Letterman introduces his next guest: Oscar-nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix. He’s sporting an unkempt beard, dark sunglasses indoors, and behaving like it was his first talk show appearance rather than his hundredth. Even Letterman, who could improv with the best of them, struggles to keep up with Phoenix’s short answers, insisting that he was done with acting so he could focus on becoming a rapper. Turns out, it was an attempt at viral marketing for the upcoming mockumentary, I’m Still Here. Okay, so maybe the interview didn’t tell us much about the movie or drive anyone t to see it, but it did tell us a lot about Joaquin Phoenix, the person and the performer, his deep commitment to his art form, and his obsession with authenticity that brought him through a difficult upbringing and into a wildly successful acting career.

The feature adaptation of Emily Henry’s bestseller “People We Meet on Vacation” has added a few more of those “people,” with Miles Heizer, Tommy Do, Alice Lee, Alan Ruck (“Succession”) and Molly Shannon joining the starry cast.
Tom Blyth and Emily Bader star in the Netflix and 3000 Pictures movie, which follows routine-loving Alex and free-spirited Poppy. The pair “have been unlikely best friends for a decade, living in different cities but spending every summer vacation together,” the official logline explains. “The careful balance of their friendship is put to the test when they begin to question what has been obvious to everyone else — could they actually be the perfect romantic match?”
In addition to Blyth and Bader, the ensemble cast also boasts Sarah Catherine Hook, Jameela Jamil, Lucien Laviscount and Lukas Gage. Further character details have yet to be announced.
