Exclusive: Navigation Media Group, the management and production company founded in 2022 by James Engle & Ben C. There are a few documentarians who dabble in feature filmmaking: R.J. Cutler (“If I Stay”), Matt Heineman (“A Private War”), even Werner Herzog (there are many). To their ranks we can now add Oscar-winner Roger Ross Williams (“Music By Prudence”), and he’s all in on making it work.

At Telluride, Williams screened his well-reviewed Sundance feature “Cassandro”; saw the world premiere of “Stamped from the Beginning” at the Toronto International Film Festival; and Apple TV+ will air his four-part docuseries “The Super Models” September 20.

It’s an eclectic and vibrant collection of work and none of it was straightforward or easy. “Cassandro” is based on the true story of Luchador Saúl Armendáriz (Gael García Bernal in a career-best performance) who finds his true identity as the cross-dressing El Exotico on the Mexico wrestling circuit. Williams met his subject on the Amazon documentary short “The Man Without a Mask” (2016).

The cast of the 2023 Netflix animated movie Nimona is full of talented and famous names, including the actress who plays the titular character. The film is based on the 2015 graphic novel of the same name by Nd Stevenson and reimagines the Middle Ages. A futuristic medieval setting serves as the backdrop of the animated feature, which revolves around a rambunctious shapeshifter named Nimona who becomes the sidekick of a fugitive named Ballister Boldheart as they try to clear his name in the kingdom.

Following multiple production delays, Nimona premiered on June 30, 2023, and was met with widespread acclaim. Many critics and fans praised the adaption for its unique animation style, cast performances, dynamic storytelling, and more. But since Nimona is an animated movie, it's always interesting to see the faces behind the characters' voices, and the Netflix film contains a lot of recognizable faces.

Fans of the Tumblr comic series “Nimona” can finally take a peek at Netflix’s upcoming animated feature film adaptation.

“Nimona,” set in a techno-medieval landscape where magic and technology combine, follows shape-shifting teenager Nimona (Moretz) as she tries to prove the innocence of wrongly convicted Knight Ballister Boldheart (Ahmed).

Joining Moretz and Ahmed in the film are Frances Conroy, Lorraine Toussaint, Beck Bennett, RuPaul Charles, Indya Moore, Julio Torres, Sarah Sherman and Eugene Lee Yang.

In 2015, the internet comic was published by HarperCollins, becoming a New York Times bestselling graphic novel. Twentieth Century Fox Animation initially acquired the rights to the film, based on cartoonist Nd Stevenson’s webcomics, and planned to release the film in 2020 with “Big Hero 6” animator Patrick Osborne to direct. Horror delights, rom-coms and a new sci-fi series starring Christoph Waltz are just a few of the highlights arriving on Amazon Prime Video in February. This month sees the debut of the second and final season of “Carnival Row” on Feb. 17, while Feb. 24 is when “The Consultant” – a “Severance”-like thriller series starring Waltz and directed by “WandaVision’s” Matt Shakman – drops.

In terms of new original Prime Video movies, on Feb. 10 there’s “Somebody I Used to Know,” a romantic comedy starring Alison Brie who co-wrote the script with her husband Dave Franco (who serves as director).

And you’ll find last year’s buzzy horror hit “Smile” on the streaming service on Feb. 21, while “Mad Max: Fury Road” filmmaker George Miller’s “Three Thousand Years of Longing” arrives on Feb. 17.

That’s not to mention noteworthy library additions like “A.I.,” “The Talented Mr. Ripley” and “Almost Famous.

Exclusive: CAA has signed actress Chloë Grace Moretz for representation.

Moretz most recently starred opposite Euphoria‘s Algee Smith in the Mattson Tomlin-directed sci-fi thriller Mother/Android from Miramax and 6th & Idaho Productions, which was released on Hulu in the U.S. and on Netflix internationally.

She previously starred opposite Isabelle Huppert in Neil Jordan’s thriller Greta for Focus Features, as well as Roseanne Liang’s WWII horror Shadow in the Cloud, which claimed the Midnight Madness People’s Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival in 2020.

Moretz, prior to those projects, led the gay conversion therapy drama The Miseducation of Cameron Post, which won both critical acclaim and the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance 2018. She also starred that year in Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria, based on the same-name giallo by Dario Argento, which went on to claim the Independent Spirit Awards’ Robert Altman Award after world premiering in Venice.

February is the shortest month of the year but Prime Video is paying that no mind with its jam-packed list of new releases for February 2023.

This really is an uncommonly stuffed month on the Amazon streamer and it all starts with a handful of Amazon Originals. Amazon’s original offerings kick off with the release of Dave Franco-directed romcom Somebody I Used to Know on Feb. 10. That is followed by Carnival Row season 2 – a gritty fantasy crime drama is set in a world of steampunky fairies. The show stars Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevigne and this batch of episodes will be its swan song. Meanwhile The Consultant on Feb. 24 is a dark comedy workplace thriller starring Christoph Waltz.

The biggest hits this month, however, might just be some recent cinema faves. If February is for lovers, Amazon didn’t get the memo as there are quite a few horror movies of note here.

In a new interview with Hunger magazine, Chloë Grace Moretz opened up about some of the more challenging aspects of growing up famous.

The 25-year-old rose to prominence as a child after starring in "Kick-Ass" in 2010 and continued to make waves as a teen with movies like "Carrie" and "If I Stay." The first time she realized how famous she was, it hit her "like a ton of bricks." "I was 18 and doing a red carpet," she said. "I walked off of it and I felt so much self-loathing and was really confused about the experience that just went down. I was really unwell after that. There was this complete jarring shift in my consciousness, I questioned who I was. What am I doing? Who am I? Why am I doing this? Like, what does this mean?"

She also recalled her first intense experience with paparazzi, which occurred a few years earlier.

The film will tell the true story of Trish Weir (Breslin), who in 1963 was kidnapped and brutally raped by Ernesto Miranda. Committed to putting her assailant in prison, Trish’s life is destroyed by America’s legal system as she triggers a law that transforms the nation. Her case notably results in the establishment of the Miranda rights afforded to criminal suspects taken in police custody, to ensure the admissibility of statements made during interrogation, as part of subsequent criminal proceedings.

The Critics Choice Association has selected “Summer of Soul” as the best documentary feature of the year. The film had a veritable sweep at the sixth annual Critics Choice Documentary Awards, winning in each of its six nominated categories.

Along with best documentary feature, “Summer of Soul” also took home the prize for best first documentary feature, best editing, best archival documentary and best music documentary. Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson tied with the duo Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin (“The Rescue”) as the winner in best director.

In addition to its tie in best director, “The Rescue” also landed wins in the categories of best cinematography and best score.

Exclusive: Liana Liberato has signed on to star in Todd Bogin’s first feature, Left with Only Rain, with Jordan Rodrigues (Ladybird), Rumer Willis (Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood), and Richard Kind (A Serious Man) also joining the cast.

The thriller centers on Sabina Geshem, a young woman reeling from a breakup, who is struggling to rebuild her once-promising dance career. After a dalliance with her ex threatens her big comeback, Sabina goes to a small town to track him down. There, she discovers his new and pregnant girlfriend, inserting herself into the unsuspecting woman’s life, and seeking something other than closure.

Bogin penned the script for the film, which 2×4 Productions’ Dustin Williams will produce alongside Gabriel Francisco and Rafael Francisco of Francisco Productions.

Alison Greenspan, a film and TV producer known for her work on the ABC drama “For Life” and 2011 feature “Monte Carlo,” died June 27 after a long battle with cancer. She was 48.

Greenspan’s death was confirmed by her husband, Jason Michaels, who said she was surrounded by her family at the time of her death.

Greenspan was a partner at Doug Robinson Productions over the past several years. She recently developed and served as an executive producer on the first two seasons of ABC’s legal drama series “For Life,” and kept working on the show until shortly before her death.

“Alison was a tenacious producer, who loved nurturing and protecting the artists she worked with,” Robinson said. “The only thing she loved more than her work was her family, her husband Jason and her beautiful son Stevie. I consider myself lucky to have had her as my friend and partner…...

Her death was confirmed by her husband, Jason Michaels, who added she was surrounded by her family when she passed away last Sunday, June 27.

Most recently, Greenspan was a partner at Doug Robinson’s Sony Pictures Television-based Doug Robinson Productions. While there, she developed and executive produced ABC’s “For Life.”

Prior to Drp, Greenspan produced films including “If I Stay,” “Ramona and Beezus”, “Monte Carlo” and “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.” Early in her career, she was an executive at Denise Di Novi’s production company.

Exclusive: Netflix has ordered a documentary series based on Big Vape: The Incendiary Rise of Juul, the new Henry Holt book by Time Magazine correspondent Jamie Ducharme. Series will be directed and executive produced by R.J. Cutler, who’s coming off the Showtime docu Belushi and Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry for Apple TV+ and Neon.

Exclusive: Emile Hirsch (Into The Wild) and Liana Liberato (If I Stay) have joined Thomas Jane (The Expanse) and his daughter Harlow (Texas Rising) in thriller Dig, which is now in post-production.

Film Mode and Screen Media are handling international sales on the film going into the Cannes virtual market, which is slated for later this month. We can reveal a first look at the movie below.

The film follows a widowed father (Jane) and his daughter who suffers from major hearing loss (Harlow Jane) whose house is up for demolition. After arriving at the construction site they are soon taken hostage by a dangerous couple (Hirsch and Liberato), who will stop at nothing to retrieve what lies beneath the property. The father and daughter must work together to outsmart their captors and survive the grueling night.

Pic is directed by K. Asher Levin. The script was penned by brothers Banipal Ablakhad and Benhur Ablakhad.

Exclusive: As his superb Showtime documentary Belushi premieres next month and with Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry upcoming from Apple TV+, R.J. Cutler has launched the production company This Machine, with an investment from Industrial Media. Cutler sealed the deal with Industrial Media’s CEO Eli Holzman and President Aaron Saidman.

In the new company, Industrial Media will have an ownership stake. Producer Elise Pearlstein will join Cutler’s This Machine as EVP of Documentaries, and Devon Hammonds — who had been Industrial Media SVP of Development & Current Programming – East Coast — will now serve in a dual role as EVP of Non-Fiction TV for This Machine. Hammonds’ focus will be returning series development for the new company. Trevor Smith, Cutler’s longtime producing partner, will serve as producer for the company’s original content.

The life story of comedy legend John Belushi will be told in an upcoming Showtime documentary aptly named Belushi. Directed by R.J. Cutler, the trailer was recently unveiled and features clips of some of the icon’s most unforgettable works including National Lampoon’s Animal House and The Blues Brothers.

Cutler, who previously directed films such as The September Issue and If I Stay, promises to go deep behind the self-described “anarchist” who is widely considered to be one of the greatest comedic talents in history. Belushi will feature never before heard audio tapes from the man himself as well as interviews and words from some of Belushi’s former colleagues and friends, including Lorne Michaels, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Dan Ackroyd, Penny Marshall, Carrie Fisher, and Chevy Chase.

Exclusive: Imagine Documentaries and Emmy-winning director-producer R.J. Cutler have teamed up on a new four-part true-crime docuseries that pulls back the curtain on New York’s most infamous jewel thief, Jack Roland Murphy, aka “Murf the Surf.”

Cutler is writing it and will direct. His docus include The War Room, A Perfect Candidate, The September Issue, The World According to Dick Cheney, Thin and Listen to Me Marlon. His nonfiction TV credits include American High, Freshman Diaries and 30 Days, and he conceived and directed the series Nashville and the film If I Stay and generated The Oval Office Tapes. His docuseries Dear… is streaming on Apple TV+, and he’s got a November Showtime airdate for Belushi, with the musical drama Bronzeville right behind it. Landing on Netflix on Sunday the 26th of April are 10 new episodes of The Last Kingdom, the bloodthirsty historical drama based on Bernard Cornwell’s ‘The Saxon Stories’ novel saga. The crushing inequality in global economics is both the righteous roil of British filmmaker Michael Winterbottom’s inequality satire “Greed” and its Achilles heel in effectively dramatizing the wreckage wrought by billionaires.

It’s always tricky to find humor in ostentatious wealth while stoking our concern for the plight of sweatshop workers and refugees, and Winterbottom, teaming again with his go-to comic frontman Steve Coogan, is not one to finesse such tonal details when he’s got a message to get out about mega-loaded wankers, and a killer clown whom he’s confident will wring laughs out of audacious self-centeredness.

But in the case of “Greed,” at least, the jokey jerkiness mostly works as we enter the orbit of crassly aggressive fast-fashion magnate Richard McCreadie (a fake-tanned Coogan sporting blinding white teeth) while he readies a 60th birthday toga bash in Mykonos to save his reputation after a parliamentary inquiry...

Chloë Grace Moretz will star in director Roseanne Liang’s action horror film “Shadow in the Cloud,” Endeavor Content announced on Wednesday.

“Shadow in the Cloud” follows Captain Maude Gardner, who boards a B-17 Flying Fortress with a black radio bag containing top-secret contents. Strange things begin to occur and she must save the all-male crew to protect her cargo. Max Landis wrote the screenplay.

Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger from Automatik, Kelly McCormick (“Atomic Blonde”) and Tom Hern (“The Meg”) of Four Knights Film are producing. Sandra Yee Ling is executive producing.

Exclusive: Amazon Studios has stepped up for Deadtown, an Entertainment One and Grey Matter Entertainment script that will be developed for a pilot by Shauna Cross. Deadtown is an adaptation of the Catherynne M. Valente novella The Refrigerator Monologues and the hourlong premise is a blueprint to create an original superhero universe set in the modern era with an underlying theme of female empowerment.

Five recently-dead women meet in Deadtown, a purgatory where they discover that their entire lives were merely in service to the superhero men they happened to cross paths with, resulting in each of their deaths. Or in comic book terms, they were “refrigerated”–frozen out of the story once they provided emotional backstory for the men. Until now. They start to discover their own powers, tell their sides of the narrative, and decide to write their own damn stories. And a group of seemingly ordinary women discover their own true power.

After tackling film and TV, Blumhouse has its sights set on a new medium. And while this new venture is based on a true story, it won’t be quite the kind of horror some fans might be used to. On Wednesday, the company announced a new podcast, “The Oval Office Tapes,” which will put words to the inner workings of the current White House.

Filmmaker Rj Cutler created the series, which is slated to begin in September for a weekly, 10-episode run. In addition to producing the seminal 1993 campaign doc “The War Room,” Cutler won an Emmy for the Fox/PBS docuseries “American High” and directed the 2014 film “If I Stay” with Chloe Grace Moretz. Writer and political reporter Scott Conroy will serve as showrunner.

Dirk Gently star Hannah Marks has co-written the script and will star in new indie comedy, Banana Split...

Hannah Marks is one of the many standouts in Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency where she stars as punk rock wizard Amanda Brotzman. Now, the young actress is expanding her portfolio, co-writing the script for Banana Split, an upcoming indie comedy currently filming in Syracuse.

According to Deadline, Marks will star alongside The Suite Life Of Zack And Cody star Dylan Sprouse (aka the Sprouse twin not on Riverdale) and If I Stay's Liana Liberato. The film will be the feature debut for Ben Kasulke, who has an extensive resume as a cinematographer on such projects as Safety Not Guaranteed and the TV show Review. The film will be fully financed by American High, a new company from Mickey Liddell and Jeremy Garelick.

Chloe Grace Moretz and Brooklyn Beckham are adorable!

The couple spent their Friday after Thanksgiving camping together near Santa Barbara, California.

Moretz, 20, shared a handful of videos and pictures of their day together on her Instagram Stories, including one of Beckham, 18, with the caption, "little camper boy."

The If I Stay star also posted images of her campsite, Beckham playing Cornhole, her s'mores and a view from her bed.

Meanwhile, David and Victoria's eldest son shared pics from their lunch date, which included iced tea, a sandwich and curly fries.

Earlier this month, Beckham visited the actress on the set of her new movie in New York City. The on-again off-again couple rekindled their romance in late August and has since been inseparable.

Holy Monsters! With production officially underway in Atlanta, Georgia on Godzilla King of the Monsters, a full cast list and synopsis has been revealed for the follow-up to the 2014 outing in which Gareth Edwards took the helm.

Although Edwards was lined up to direct the sequel, which now falls into the Kong, Godzilla monster universe after last year’s arrival of Kong: Skull Island, he gave up his throne to Michael Dougherty to pursue other projects.

Within the newly revealed synopsis, we are given an insight to the monsters we can expect to see this time around. Currently, the confirmed list of Monsters to be featured are Rodan, Mothra and Ghidorah! Three of Toho’s most iconic Kaiju have been secured by Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures to star in the follow-up and will do battle with their revised Hollywood Godzilla which debuted in Gareth Edwards’ 2014 blockbuster.

Chicago – I’ll be the first to admit that I am not the target audience for these stock young adult romance novels. Aside from the odd fascination and romanticization of teenage death and terminal illness, these stories feel trite and much closer to fantasy than anything real or plausible. This is what the film “Everything, Everything” brings to the table, which essentially translates to Nothing, Nothing.

Parts of the next Nicolas Cage film are to be shot for virtual reality, it's been revealed...

Things are heating up for Nicolas Cage, who has three new movies incoming imminently. What's more, Cage is also now set to star in the upcoming science fiction global warming film The Humanity Bureau.

The Humanity Bureau will be directed by Rob King (Something More). The screenplay was written by Dave Schultz. The cast also includes Sarah Lind (Wolfcop), Jakob Davies (If I Stay) and Hugh Dillon (Assault On Precinct 13).
