Tyler Perry’s drama Beauty in Black captured the top overall spot on Nielsen’s streaming charts for the week of Sept. 15-21 with 1.35 billion minutes of viewing time. The show came in just slightly ahead of the prior weeks 1.34 billion minutes and dethroned Wednesday as the overall leader.
Right behind Beauty in Black was Black Rabbit, starring Jason Bateman and Jude Law, with 1.23 billion viewing minutes. The drama premiered Sept. 18 and was easily the week’s top debut. Wednesday didn’t fall far, finishing third with 1.02 billion minutes of viewing.
The Summer I Turned Pretty hit a new high — its fifth during the run of season three — with 776 million viewing minutes for the week of its finale. Another Prime Video series, Gen V (424 million minutes), rejoined the original series top 10 with the premiere of its second season.

It was a record-breaking week for the Top 10 with a whole lot of whoa and a whole lot of woe (in the best way)! First, Canelo vs. Crawford broke records to become the most-viewed men’s championship boxing match this century. It also broke Allegiant Stadium’s attendance records with 70,482 visitors at the Las Vegas event. Then, Wednesday Season 2 made its official debut on the Most Popular English Shows list with 95.4 million views, joining the ranks of Wednesday Season 1, which currently holds the No. 1 spot.
In an unforgettable night at Allegiant Stadium this past weekend, boxing fans showed up for this history-making fight. Canelo vs. Crawford knocked out the competition to obtain the No.

“Wednesday” came back to life in September with the debut of Season 2 Part 2. The final four episodes of the new season opened to 28.2 million views in their first five days on Netflix, marking a 43.6% decrease in viewership from Part 1, which scored 50 million views in the same time period.
Still, the black comedy series, starring Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, ranked No. 1 on the English TV top 10 chart, where Season 2 Part 1 remains in the No. 6 slot. Since the first half of Season 2 premiered in August, some viewers may wait to binge the whole series at once. Following a huge marketing push for Part 1, it might take others a few more days to realize more episodes of the series are available on the platform. The first season of “Wednesday” remains the most popular season of television on Netflix of all time, raking in 252 million views globally in the first 91 days of release.

CBS and the Television Academy have set the lineup of presenters for the 77th Emmy Awards this Sunday, Sept. 14. The list includes a slew of 2025 nominees, notably Stephen Colbert whose Late Show was recently canceled by CBS, a few winners from 2024 and last weekend’s 2025 Creative Arts Emmys as well as actors promoting new and returning shows.
There are also intriguing names, such as Lauren Graham and 2017 Emmy winner Alexis Bledel who are clearly reuniting to mark the 25th anniversary of their beloved mother-daughter drama Gilmore Girls.
Then there are Jenna Ortega and Catherine Zeta-Jones of Netflix’s hit Wednesday, coming off the release of its second season.
Other potential groupings include 2006 Emmy winner Mariska Hargitay, who could reunite with her former Law & Order co-lead (and close friend) Christopher Meloni. The two could be joined by Tony Goldwyn, representing all three current NBC/Peacock Law & Order series on...

The Samba TV Wrap report has spent all summer highlighting Netflix’s successes. This week, the streaming giant found a way to top itself.
“Wednesday,” one of Netflix’s all-time biggest hits, returned on Aug. 6. Following nearly three years between seasons, audiences were excited to see Jenna Ortega come back as the titular creepy, kooky, mysterious and spooky Addams family character. With 2.7 million U.S. households watching the first episode in the first five days it was available, it was more than enough to put the show at the top of the streaming chart this week.
It was the 10th consecutive week a Netflix title has held the top spot. It’s also one of seven Netflix entries this week, making it the second-straight week where the streamer has held seven of our Top 10 spots. With the second half of “Wednesday’s” second season coming on Sept. 3, all signs are...

A pair of highly anticipated series returns — Wednesday and King of the Hill — pulled in big opening viewing numbers for their respective streamers. Kpop Demon Hunters also continued its strong summer run.
The first half of Wednesday season two delivered 50 million views worldwide (201.6 million hours of viewing divided by a four-hour, two-minute running time) for its premiere week, according to Netflix’s internal stats. That’s the most views for an English-language show’s opening week on the streamer since … season one of Wednesday in November 2022, which logged 50.1 million views (albeit for the full season rather than half of it).
Season one’s second week climbed to 60.3 million views, which is the high mark for a Netflix English-language series in recent years. Season two of Squid Game holds the premiere-week high for all languages with 68 million views.

Is this enough to get a smile out of Wednesday Addams? The return of the Addams Family spinoff series “Wednesday” starring Jenna Ortega is still a hit, notching 50 million views on Netflix in its first week on the service and easily hitting No. 1 on the Top 10 charts globally.
The show’s 50 million views is right in line with what Season 1 did when it debuted way back in November 2022 with 50.1 million views. At the time though, Netflix tracked hours watched rather than “views,” so “Wednesday” Season 1 topped the list with 341.2 million hours viewed, and that was with Netflix dropping all eight episodes of Season 1 at once. For Season 2, it’s been split into two parts, with Part 2 debuting September 3, so expect another huge viewership boost for Season 2 a month from now.
So though it’s a few thousand shy of the first season, “Wednesday” Season 2 is effectively the biggest debut for an English-language Netflix series ever.

Quietly, Wednesday replies, “Enid dies and it’s all my fault.” The scene cuts to Wednesday’s vision: She’s in a graveyard next to a headstone that reads “In memory of Enid Sinclair,” and Enid appears, putting her hands around Wednesday’s throat and shouting, “I died because of you!” In voiceover as the trailer continues, Wednesday says, “Secrets are the bedrock of the Addams family. The sooner I get answers, the sooner I can save Enid — or die trying.”

Netflix's third live marketing "fan event" — the onomatopoeic Tudum — is back for the third year, this time taking over The Forum in Los Angeles, California, after two huge convention-level events in Brazil in 2020 and 2023. And guess what? We're live-blogging it! Isn't that fun? Who doesn't love a live blog? It's like working in digital media in the 2010s all over again!
Expected to last anywhere between 90 and 120 minutes, Tudum 2025 is said to feature several reunions and reveals from the casts of Squid Game,Stranger Things, and Wednesday— three series returning this year (with the former two mentioned ending their game-changing runs for the streamer). It is also expected that Lady Gaga will perform several songs — including her tune "Bloody Mary," which went viral as the backing track for fans doing Wednesday Addams' iconic dance from Season 1. Does anyone else think we'll get a sneak peek at the singer's Season 2 cameo?...

“Death of a Unicorn” star Jenna Ortega has just announced the birth of a career pivot: directing. The actress/producer told V magazine that she plans on directing her own original film that has been in the works for 10 years.
“I have a script that I’ve known that I was going to make for almost 10 years,” she said. “It’s weird because it’s something that I thought of when I was younger and when I first started out in this field, and it’s only now that I’m actually starting to take the steps to get it made.”
Ortega will make her producing debut on Season 2 of Netflix series “Wednesday.” Ortega also has made her passion for screenwriting publicly known: she infamously said in 2023 that she pushed to rewrite the initial scripts for the hit Netflix series. Netflix has debuted a teaser trailer for the highly anticipated season 2 of the Addams family spin-off ‘Wednesday.’
Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega), returns to prowl the Gothic halls of Nevermore Academy, where fresh foes and woes await. “Wednesday” Season 2 has set a two-part premiere date for this fall.
“Wednesday” Season 2, Part 1 will premiere Aug. 6 on Netflix while Part 2 debuts less than a month later on Sept. 3, the streamer announced Wednesday. The two-part strategy marks a switch-up from last season, when “Wednesday” dropped all eight episodes of its first season on Nov. 23, 2022.
Netflix also unveiled the teaser for Season 2, which sees Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams returning to Nevermore, beginning with a particularly painful Tsa screening, which sees Wednesday unloading a handful of weapons on her person into a bin. The weapons are not what creates a problem for the Tsa agents, however, as Thing slid in some sunscreen that poses an obstacle for the airline.
“Suncream, seriously?” Wednesday scolds Hand in the teaser.
“This is the first time you’ve ever willingly returned to a school,” Catherine Zeta-Jones’ Morticia Addams says in the trailer. “Like returning to the scene of a crime,...

Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, Wednesday follows the titular Addams to Nevermore Academy, where she learns to master her emerging psychic abilities. In the teaser trailer above, Wednesday (Ortega) is at an airport walking through security when she sets off the alarm, prompting a Tsa agent to alert the teen that she must empty her pockets. Veterans of the prominent entertainment marketing firm Trailer Park are striking out on their own, launching a new company called Requiem.
Formed by partners Kelly Adelman, Adam Finkelstein and Dan Herbatschek, Requiem has already secured many of the top entertainment companies as clients, including Universal, Netflix, Warner Bros., Disney, Sony, Lionsgate and others.
Adelman was most recently co-president of Trailer Park, which is among the largest entertainment marketing firms in the world, overseeing campaigns for projects like Wicked, Deadpool & Wolverine, Oppenheimer, Wednesday and other film and TV projects. Finkelstein is also a veteran of the marketing firm.
Herbatschek, meanwhile, is an applied mathematician who operates the Ramsey Theory Group and will bring artificial intelligence and digital development expertise to the company.
“Our approach is singular in this space,” said Adelman. “In just a short period of time, Requiem has curated a haven that will challenge conventional agency archetypes, giving credence to unbridled creative freedom.

“Wednesday” super fans have something extra to be thankful for this morning — even if Wednesday herself is none-too-pleased.
Netflix is putting Wednesday Addams in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which actually streams live on Peacock, not on Netflix.
The new “Wednesday” float will be “accompanied by an army of lookalike Wednesdays” and “a special performance” of “Paint It Black” by indie-pop star Bishop Briggs. We guess the Rolling Stones, who wrote and recorded “Paint It Black” in 1966 were unavailable… for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Wednesday, played by Jenna Ortega in Netflix’s smash-hit series, famously hates the Thanksgiving holiday — especially since she started working at the fictitious Pilgrim World tourist attraction.
“Netflix has tapped into Wednesday’s apathy and bold nature to create a float and a moment within the historic parade to delight fans as they await Season 2,” per the press release.

You can trust ‘Wednesday’ star Jenna Ortega to say what’s on her mind, whether it’s “politically correct” or not. The actress first came under fire with fans for sharing her thoughts on the first season of Wednesday and openly discussing the changes she’d love to see happen in the second one, which by the way, she’s producing alongside Tim Burton.
At the time, fans did not find her revelation that she requested for certain things to be changed in the Netflix show in good taste. But that’s not stopping her from speaking her mind or discussing what she brings to the table in her work as an actress and producer.

Jenna Ortega is revealing the name of the Denzel Washington film that inspired her to start her acting career.
The Emmy-nominated actress, who has gone on to star in hit projects including the Scream franchise, You, Wednesday and the upcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice sequel, recently told Vanity Fair in a wide-ranging interview that it was 2004’s Man on Fire that “changed the entire course of my existence.”
“I’m so appreciative of my six-year-old self who wanted to be a president and an astronaut… ecause I realize now that I was always looking for a way out,” Ortega added.
The Tony Scott-directed thriller, starring Washington and Dakota Fanning, follows former CIA operative John Creasy who sets out on a revenge-fueled rescue mission after 9-year-old Lupita Ramos, a girl he was hired as a bodyguard to protect, gets kidnapped.

Steve Buscemi has joined the cast of “Wednesday” Season 2 at Netflix, Variety has learned exclusively from sources.
Exact character details are being kept under wraps, but sources say Buscemi will play the new principal of Nevermore Academy.
Reps for Netflix and Buscemi declined to comment.
Few details are available about the new season of “Wednesday,” aside from the fact Jenna Ortega will return as the titular Addams Family daughter going through her teenage years. The first season ended with Wednesday successfully solving a series of grisly murders while also thwarting an attempt to destroy Nevermore and its students.
Buscemi is a highly-celebrated actor, known for his ability to take on drama and comedy roles in equal measure. He has starred in films like “Reservoir Dogs,” “Fargo,” “The Death of Stalin,” and numerous Adam Sandler productions. He has also starred in shows like “Boardwalk Empire,” “Miracle Workers,” Season 5 of “The Sopranos,...

Yesterday, news hit that Netflix is developing a spin-off of "Wednesday," the streamer's mega-successful series starring Jenna Ortega. Makes sense, right? "Wednesday" is an undeniable hit -- one of the few original shows where Netflix doesn't need to obfuscate its data because it became a genuine cultural phenomenon. According to Bloomberg, Netflix is "eager to establish a pipeline of 'Addams Family' programs to build off the success of 'Wednesday.'" The spin-off is going to center on the Uncle Fester character, as played by Fred Armisen.
To be clear, Armisen is hilarious. For my money, he's one of the funniest actors working today. He's a master of making weird little faces (see: his memorable appearance in HBO's "Barry"), and there's an inherent goofiness to him that makes him lovable and easy to watch. But is Netflix sure the reason a vast amount of audiences tuned into "Wednesday...

Netflix seems to be making the same mistake every big studio does — jumping the gun to launching big franchises and cinematic universes out of untested hits.
According to Bloomberg, the streamer is already developing a spin-off of "Wednesday," this time focused on Fred Armisen's Uncle Fester. This news comes before production even begins on "Wednesday" season 2. Granted, as Guillermo del Toro has sadly taught us all, just because something is said to be in development doesn't mean it will get to see the light of day. Still, the Bloomberg report says Netflix is "eager to establish a pipeline of 'Addams Family' programs to build off the success of 'Wednesday.'" This means that if this one doesn't work, they still have other ones to try out, as the streamer apparently wants to Dark Universe "The Addams Family."

Jenna Ortega has dropped out of “Scream 7” due to her “Wednesday” Season 2 shooting schedule, Variety has confirmed. The news of her exit comes after her co-star Melissa Barrera was fired from the horror movie due to Barrera’s social media posts about Israel and Palestine. Ortega’s departure was not caused by Barrera’s firing and was in the works months ago before the SAG-AFTRA strike began.
Ortega and Barrera co-starred in the 2022 revival of “Scream” and this year’s sequel “Scream 6.” They brought life back to the dormant horror franchise along with new and returning stars, and “Scream 7” was announced with director Christopher Landon.
Deadline Hollywood broke the news.

Netflix has made some big changes to the way it reports streaming viewership.
The streamer will now report in average viewership for its programming as “views,” which is hours viewed divided by total runtime. While hours viewed will still be available, Netflix will now use this new metric for its Top 10 rankings, including the all-time Most Popular lists.
Additionally, Netflix has expanded the measurement window from 28 days to 91 days, in an effort to give films and shows time to grow.
This means some major shakeups, including Wednesday overtaking Stranger Things 4 as the most popular English-language series of all time. This is quite significant, considering that Stranger Things 4 benefitted from its whopping 13-hour runtime. It would have been difficult for any series to beat that, let alone one that was half that length like Wednesday (which speaks even more to the impressive viewership for the Addams Family series).

Producer Steven DeKnight is walking back his critique from last week of “Wednesday” star Jenna Ortega in which he called her “toxic” and “unprofessional.”
On Wednesday, he tweeted, “She’s an amazing talent. It was just an unfortunate situation to expose creative differences publicly, and also I’ll admit that writers are on edge because of the impending strike, myself included. A perfect storm.”
The brouhaha began with her appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast, in which she told host Dax Shepard of the steps she took on behalf of her character on the Netflix series: “I don’t think I’ve ever had to put my foot down more on a set in a way that I had to on ‘Wednesday.'”
Absolutely! Again, I can't stress this enough: She's an amazing talent. It was just an unfortunate situation to expose creative differences publicly, and also I'll admit that...

Although Netflix's Wednesday came out in late November, the show and its star, Jenna Ortega, are still receiving plenty of hype and rumors are even swirling that Ortega may have a new role lined up for her as executive producer in Wednesday season 2. Jenna Ortega is a 20-year-old actor who has already had a decade-long career spanning from Disney Channel to the Scream franchise. Ortega's latest role as Wednesday Addams astounded audiences because of her commitment to character and unique acting choices a la the iconic Wednesday dance from Wednesday season 1, episode 4.
Jenna Ortega has definitely become a familiar face in the media landscape because of Wednesday season 1, but she certainly won't get stuck in that box for long. In March 2023, Ortega appeared in Scream 6 and the actor has several other projects lined up including a romantic comedy entitled Winter, Summer, Spring, or Fall. Netflix’s Harry & Meghan had a strong second week on the streaming TV charts, and Wednesday held onto its top overall ranking. Kindred, meanwhile, cracked the top 10 original series for the week of its premiere on Hulu.
Harry & Meghan amassed 1.69 billion minutes of viewing time in the United States for the week of Dec. 12-18, according to Nielsen. That’s up from 1.27 billion minutes, a gain of 34 percent, from its premiere week (Netflix released three episodes each week).
Wednesday ranked No. 1 overall for the fourth straight week, grabbing 2.16 billion minutes of viewing. That was down 35 percent week to week, but the series has racked up 16.81 billion minutes over its first four weeks, the second highest total of any streaming series since Nielsen began tracking them (behind the 19.5 billion for Stranger Things 4 in May and June).
Netflix’s spy thriller The Recruit finished third among original series, debuting with 925 million minutes of viewing time.

Well it’s about time: Wednesday has been renewed for season 2 by Netflix.
After speculation about the hit show’s fate, the streamer has confirmed the goth mystery series will return for another round.
“It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world,” said showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar in a statement. “Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two. We can’t wait to dive head first into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”
Since its release Nov. 23, the debut season starring Jenna Ortega has become Netflix’s third most-popular series of all time, behind only Stranger Things season 4 and Squid Game. The show also twice broke the record for most hours viewed in a single week by an English-language TV series.

When Netflix renewed Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman” last month, the streamer was careful not to call the next chapter of the comic book adaptation a second season — but did not explain why. The reason: Netflix is considering releasing the next installment in batches a la “Stranger Things” Season 4, rather than its traditional binge model.
“Everything is on the table when it comes to ‘Sandman,’” Netflix’s head of U.S. and Canada scripted series Peter Friedlander tells Variety. “It’s an innovative show.”
That “everything is on the table” approach seems to be one Netflix, which launched its ad-supported tier last month, is embracing with open arms across the board in 2023.
Of all the “how it started, how it’s going” stories coming out as the year ends, Netflix might have one of the best ones, boasting a steady stream of mega hits including Tim Burton’s “Wednesday” (which...

It’s no surprise that Wednesday Addams is a popular Halloween costume each year. The elements are simple: a black dress, a white collar, and two braided pigtails.
If anyone’s up to the daunting task of updating such an iconic character’s fashion, it’s Colleen Atwood. The Oscar-winning costume designer, whose credits include “Chicago,” “Memoirs of a Geisha” and “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” pulled together a medley of creepy, kooky, mysterious, spooky and all-together ooky ensembles for Netflix’s “Wednesday.”
“With Wednesday, we can nail the iconic look right away with a nod to the original pointed collar, little print dress and modernized platform shoes, and then put her in an environment that she totally contrasts with: an American happy-time public school,” Atwood tells Variety of her reverence for the macabre teen’s original outfit. “Then you’ve given the nod to all that’s come before.

Following Christina Ricci’s Wednesday Addams is no easy feat. So when Jenna Ortega had to embody the iconic role in front of Ricci herself, it was daunting to say the least.
“I’ve never been so awkward. I felt like I didn’t know what to say to her,” Ortega told Variety at the red carpet premiere of the Netflix series “Wednesday” at the Hollywood Legion Theater. “I think she’s a fantastic character actress. I know her as Wednesday in my head, so it was intimidating. But she’s so wonderful and talented — she made it really easy.”
Asked how she felt wearing the Wednesday ensemble while filming scenes with Ricci, Ortega said, “It felt wrong. I wanted to give it to her.”
