Mena Suvari (American Beauty), Skeet Ulrich (Scream), and Elizabeth Marvel (“House of Cards”) will star in the upcoming horror film Devoted, Variety reports.

Lin Shaye (Insidious), Alicia Sanz (“From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series”), and Nick Stahl (Sin City) round out the cast.

The plot follows a woman (Suvari) who takes guardianship of her estranged sister (Marvel), the only survivor of a recent mass cult suicide. Yet her happiness at their reunion soon turns to terror as her sister’s influence turns her and her husband’s (Ulrich) life into a savage nightmare.

Fruitvale Station, Black Bear, and The Manor producer Richard J. Bosner writes and directs in his feature debut.

Prime Video's new apocalyptic zombie movie has become a streaming success. Amazon's streaming service has been consistently producing original movies since 2019, although they take on a variety of genres, they started making horror movies about a year in, including Black Box, The Lie, Nocturne, and Evil Eye. Since then, that roster has expanded significantly to include more movies, such as Bingo Hell, Black as Night, Madres, The Manor, Master, Goodnight Mommy, Nanny, and perhaps Prime Video's most popular horror movie, Totally Killer.

On the series side, one of Prime Video's most popular efforts is the post-apocalyptic drama Fallout, based on the Bethesda video game series of the same name, which has been renewed for a second season. Amazon Prime Video has unveiled the first trailer for the dark comedy series “The Sticky.”

According to the official logline, the show “follows Ruth Landry (Margo Martindale), a tough, middle-aged maple syrup farmer who turns to crime when the bureaucratic authorities threaten to take away everything she loves. She teams up with the hot-tempered Bostonian mobster (Chris Diamantopoulos), and a mild-mannered French-Canadian security guard (Guillaume Cyr) to carry out a multi-million-dollar heist on Quebec’s maple syrup surplus.”

As Variety exclusively reported, all six episodes of the half-hour show will debut on Dec. 6. It is based on the real Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist, but makes it clear in the trailer that “this is absolutely not the true story.”

Alarmed is the latest original film from the streaming service Tubi. Regular readers may have noticed it’s been a while since I’ve reviewed one of those, and there’s a simple reason for that. Apart from Terror Train, which went to a different service here, they haven’t done anything that caught my attention lately. This sounded like it could be a decent home invasion thriller so I gave it a look.

Janet and Sean are having marital issues. The fact their son Billy got busted for hacking some government networks and is back living with them 24/7 while he serves a sentence under house arrest isn’t helping matters.

They decide they need some time to themselves and plan a weekend getaway.

Two Witches, the first feature from Pierre Tsigaridis features a pair of somewhat connected tales of modern day witchcraft. Exclusive: Production starts today in Vancouver on the new Prime Video and Blumhouse Television horror-comedy slasher feature Totally Killer, starring Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Olivia Holt (Cruel Summer), Julie Bowen (Modern Family), and Randall Park (Fresh Off the Boat).

The film follows Jamie (Shipka) whose mom, Pam (Bowen), is terrorized by the resurgence of the Sweet Sixteen Killer — a masked maniac that slaughtered a group of teenage girls in the ‘80s. With the help of her friend Amelia (Kelcey Mawema), Jamie travels back in time to 1987 and teams up with the teen version of her mom (Holt) to try and stop the killer.

Nahnatchka Khan is directing, and Jen D’Angelo penned the screenplay based on an original script by David Matalon and Sasha Perl-Raver.

The pic is a continuation of the deal forged by Prime Video and Blumhouse Television in 2019.

As I watched 9 Bullets the plot seemed overly familiar, it wasn’t billed as a remake of anything but it seemed very familiar. Then it hit me, Gloria, a film John Cassavetes made in 1980, and remade by Sidney Lumet in 1999. Both involve a tough woman who has to go on the run with a young boy wanted by the mobsters who killed his parents. In Gloria he has a book with incriminating information, in this film, it’s a laptop. In both films, the mob boss is her ex and as a name, Gypsy isn’t that far from Gloria either.

I wasn’t surprised to see that it was one of a slew of films writer/director Gigi Gaston cited as an influence on 9 Bullets.

There’s a terrifying amount of scare-centric programming this October, whether it’s being broadcast or streamed.

Paramount+ has announced its “Peak Screaming” package, which will encompass scary movies, kids shows and originals. Amazon, of course, is releasing four original Blumhouse films this month: Bingo Hell, Black as Night, The Manor and Madres. Peacock may have the largest cache of Halloween goodies, none more tasty than the latest installment of that most seasonally-appropriate of franchises, Halloween Kills. “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” the mystery thriller series about a group of teens haunted by a deadly secret, is now streaming on Amazon Prime.

There have been plenty of suspense and horror flicks set in the sequestered confines of nursing homes and mental hospitals for a very good reason. When any of the residents start sensing something amiss, they’re least likely to be believed by those who might help them. When the menace comes from those in charge, the diminished capacity of their victim pools provides excellent cover for their nefarious deeds. Vincent Price comes to mind as one who thrived in the genre. Many others did so before and after his turns at chilling our bones.

From heroes to villains, there is no doubt that the characters in Amazon Prime's The Manor showcased essential wit throughout their situation. In such a hauntingly terrifying scenario such as the supernatural killings of The Manor, those involved had to be extremely smart to make it out alive.

Even the characters who fell victim to the ritualistic sacrifices were intelligent in their own ways, even if they couldn't quite figure out a way to avoid their tragic deaths. While some characters were smart for suspecting that things in The Manor were not as they seemed, many other characters in the film were smart for their consistent deception against those suspecting victims.

When main character Judith starts to settle into the titular nursing home in Amazon Prime’s new horror The Manor, it's hard to tell who can be trusted. Both Judith and viewers alike receive conflicting and terrifying information about what seems to be a paranormal force lurking within the Manor.

Some characters in The Manor seem to be trustworthy at first, only to later be exposed as villains in the story. Others remain consistently likable - for the most part, that is - in terms of moving the film’s protagonist to her resolution. In a film full of deception, some characters definitely stood out as easier to like than others.

The Manor, one of the four films of the Amazon Studio and Blumhouse Television series Welcome to the Blumhouse, features a strong backbone of producers, including horror veteran producer Sandy King and horror newcomer Richard J. Bosner.

King established herself in film as a script supervisor on a wide variety of films, including Sixteen Candles. She’s best known for her collaboration with horror icon John Carpenter, in multiple roles as an executive producer, producer, and script supervisor for many of his beloved films, ranging from They Live, to Big Trouble in Little China, and In the Mouth of Madness.

Bosner has produced several independent, including Other People and Black Bear, which both premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. He was a co-producer for The Wannabe, which also featured as an executive producer, film titian Martin Scorsese.

There’s a certain charm to modest genre offerings that most viewers wouldn’t seek out beyond October, when so many of us spend the entire month immersed in all things horror. Though “Madres” probably wasn’t planning to fall under that umbrella, at least it’s in good company. Arriving as part of Welcome to the Blumhouse, an annual series of four Amazon Originals produced by, well, Blumhouse, director Ryan Zaragoza’s socially conscious chiller evokes everything from “Rosemary’s Baby” to the folklore tale of La Llorona while trying — but only occasionally succeeding — to carve a space for itself in that crowded milieu. It’s the kind of distraction you might pad a midnight-movie marathon with, likely sandwiched between more accomplished films with similar thematic underpinnings.

This weekend marks the much-noted 50th anniversary of “The French Connection’s” release. “The Manor” perhaps inadvertently stirs memories of another William Friedkin joint, 1990 horror “The Guardian,” which was so disliked by the director that he omitted mentioning it in his otherwise fairly comprehensive memoirs. This addition to the second “Welcome to the Blumhouse” quartet of genre features likewise offers an evil tree-entity, to perhaps less campily absurd results — which is both a good and a bad thing.

Knoxville Horror Film Fest 2021: "The Knoxville Horror Film Fest will present its lucky 13th annual weekend of cinematic scares Thursday, October 21 through Sunday, October 24, with events split between Maryville, Tennessee’s Parkway Drive-In and the festival’s home base at Central Cinema in Knoxville.

It was Covid-era necessity that drove last year’s premier programming to the Parkway, but it’s pure pleasure that brings it back for a second year. Thursday night’s lineup will kick off the festival with a triple feature of John Carpenter’s ghostly 1980 classic The Fog, Rialto Pictures’ new 40th anniversary 4K restoration of Joe Dante’s The Howling (1981), and heavy metal horror cult item Trick Or Treat (1986). Friday night will continue the fun with the trailers of the 2021 Khff Grindhouse Grind-out, followed by another triple feature of Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984), An American Werewolf In London (1981) and SFX genius Phil Tippett’s years-in-the-making Mad God.

Amazon Prime Video is ramping up the promotion for the upcoming ‘Welcome to the Blumhouse’ event which drops from October 1st, with a brand new trailer consisting of all four movies.

The event is a series of unique, unsettling thrillers developed and produced with an eye towards original, diverse storytelling. The ‘Welcome to the Blumhouse’ slate once again showcases both well-established and breakout actors collaborating with emerging, predominantly female, directors.

Details on the next batch of films lined up to terrify audiences are below;

Bingo Hell

When a sinister figure threatens the residents of a low-income community, a feisty senior citizen tries to stop him in Bingo Hell, a wickedly original horror movie with a fiendishly funny twist. After 60-something neighbourhood activist Lupita (Adriana Barraza) discovers that her beloved local bingo hall has been taken over by a mysterious businessman named Mr. Big (Richard Brake), she rallies her elderly friends...

Blumhouse and Amazon Prime Video are at it again with another round of "Welcome to the Blumhouse" films. Last year, four Blumhouse movies premiered directly on Prime Video, and the results were...not great. Perhaps this new round of movies will be an improvement. Once again, we'll be getting four new movies, with two dropping on one weekend, and two more dropping the following weekend. The titles include "Bingo Hell" directed by Gigi Saul Guerrero; "Black as Night" directed by Maritte Lee Go; "Madres" directed by Ryan Zaragoza; and "The Manor" directed by Axelle Carolyn.

L. Scott Caldwell will star in Blumhouse and Amazon’s “Bingo,” the latest thriller on the “Welcome to the Blumhouse” slate.

The Tony Award-winning actor, known for her roles as Rose in “Lost” and in “The Fugitive” will star as Delores, the “witty, loyal and tough grandmother” at the center of “Bingo’s” story.

Caldwell joins previously announced stars Adriana Barraza (Oscar nominee for “Babel”), who plays Delores’ best friend Lupita, and “The Good Lord Bird” breakout Joshua Caleb Johnson, as her grandson Caleb.

Set in the barrio of Oak Springs, the film follows a strong and stubborn group of elderly friends who refuse to be gentrified. Lupita is the leader of the group, keeping them together as a community, a family, but little do they know, their beloved Bingo hall is about to be sold to a much more powerful force than money itself.

Exclusive: Oscar-nominated actress Adriana Barraza is set to serve up some scares in the next slate of films in the horror anthology Welcome To The Blumhouse at Amazon studios. The influential Mexican actress will star in Bingo directed and co-written by rising genre filmmaker Gigi Saul Guerrero. The film is currently in production.

The collaboration is a Latinx-driven narrative that includes two generations of Mexican artists. In this case, it is legendary veteran actress Barraza and the up and comer Guerrero. This is a major win as we have seen a severe lack of Latinx representation in film and TV.

Set in the barrio of Oak Springs, Bingo follows a strong and stubborn group of elderly friends who refuse to be gentrified. Barraza plays the leader of the pack, Lupita, a “chingona” (aka bad ass) who grew up in the neighborhood formerly filled with crime and dangerous characters.

True renaissance creators whose amazing works span multiple mediums, John Carpenter and Storm King Productions President Sandy King Carpenter have teamed up with Serial Box for a new line of audio horror stories.

The Serial Box and Storm King partnership is expected to produce a minimum of five audio series each year over at least a two-year span, with each story being released under a "John Carpenter Presents" banner.

John and Sandy, along with the Head of Content at Serial Box, Hayley Wagreich, will collaborate with other creators in the horror genre for these new audio series, which will be released on Serial Box's immersive platform.

Amazon Prime Video has unveiled The Manor, Black as Night, Madres and Bingo as the final four films in the eight-film genre anthology. The quartet will debut on the streaming platform in 2021.

Amazon on Thursday revealed the next four films to be released next year as part of its “Welcome to the Blumhouse” series. The first four genre movies in the collection launched on Prime Video this month.

Just like the first four films of the program, the next group represents four unique stories that are connected by common themes, including institutional horrors and personal phobias. The “social thrillers,” as Amazon terms them, are helmed by up-and-coming directors.
