Prime Video's subversive superhero series The Boys might be highly exaggerated, but it does have something to say about our current political moment. The fourth season was the most politically charged yet, featuring themes of authoritarianism and fascism. I mean, the season featured the tagline "Make America Super Again." Sound familiar?
Speaking to Forbes, showrunner Eric Kripke spoke about the political aspect of the show, which comes more to the forefront with every season. "Look, I thinkThe Boys probably, for better or worse, is a political show at this point," he said. "I think season four was political. I think the world has sort of grown to resemble the show more and more in a way that's not great. And so, we just sort of lean into it. I mean, the show is about why and how you should question your leaders. You should question anyone who stands in front of you.

Stop me if you've heard this one before, but the latest season of "The Boys" was a total bloodbath and left us on its darkest note yet. Viewers have come to expect the worst with Prime Video's superhero satire series, which always seems to take the path of most cynicism. In season 4, that meant the United States ushering in a puppet as a President to do the bidding of Homelander (Antony Starr) and enact martial law, all while our heroes were either scattered to the winds or captured. Oh, and if all that wasn't bad enough, a mid-credits scene even teased the return of everybody's favorite freak Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles).
Well, if you thought things couldn't possibly get any worse, you clearly haven't been paying enough attention. Season 5 has been confirmed to be the show's final season and is currently in the process of filming. Of course, since this...

The fourth season of The Boys aired on Amazon Prime Video earlier this year. The season was dinged by some fans for feeling a little slow, but it ended with a huge crash as sociopathic superhero Homelander essentially took over the country, becoming its de facto leader. According to showrunner Eric Kripke, this latest season was designed to set things up for a fifth and final season, which is in production now. As Kripke told Entertainment Weekly, Hughie (Jack Quaid) "solidly learn[ed] what it means to be human," Butcher (Karl Urban) "completely committ[ed] to being a monster," and Homelander "successfully t[ook] over every single thing and chang[ed] the country into basically a Homelander-led kingdom."
Now that all that is in place, Kripke and company are ready to blow our minds in the final season. "It's just such a gift to know, as a filmmaker anyway, when your story's ending because...

Casting announcements for the upcoming horror film Scream 7 are coming in quickly! The latest to join the cast is Hysteria! star Anna Camp, and we're curious about who she will be playing in the new movie. Unfortunately, character details are being kept secret, but this isn't surprising, as most of the previous casting announcements didn't include character details either.
Camp's casting comes just a day after the announcement that Mason Gooding would be reprising his role as Chad Meeks-Martin from Scream (2022) and Scream VI in the seventh installment. Also joining the cast in new roles are Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire), Celeste O’Connor (Madame Web), and Sam Rechner (The Fabelmans).
Neve Campbell, who portrayed Sidney Prescott in the first five Scream movies, returns in this iconic role for Scream 7. In addition, Isabel May (1923) will play Sidney's daughter in the film. Plot details are being kept confidential,...

If there’s one thing Eric Kripke knows, it’s how to hook an audience and keep them binging way past bedtime and eagerly waiting for more. Seriously, this guy is like a wizard of the TV land who crafts shows that grab you by the feels, and literally, the throat.
You might know him as the mastermind behind Supernatural, the cult favorite that made us terrified of flickering lights and deeply invested in a ’67 Chevy Impala. And well, who can forget the fan-favorite The Boys, which showcases the twisted take on superheroes that feels like a chaotic therapy session for everyone sick of caped crusaders?

Sean Patrick Thomas, who plays Polarity in Gen V, confirms his return in season 2, which will also pay tribute to Chance Perdomo, who played his on-screen son Andre. Perdomo died in a motorcycle accident in March just before season 2's principal photography, which caused a temporary halt in the production of The Boys spinoff. With filming wrapping in November, Gen V season 2 is officially coming back in 2025.
In response to a reader's question, Thomas shared a few details with TVLine about Polarity's future in season 2. While the star didn't want to "give too much away," he confirmed that "Polarity will be in season 2." The exact details are tightly under wraps, but with the series not recasting Andre, Thomas revealed that the upcoming season would be a tribute to Perdomo "in a lot of ways." [This story contains spoilers from the first season of Prime Video’s Cruel Intentions.]
If you were a young adult in the late ‘90s, you almost certainly knew Sean Patrick Thomas.
Before he was Jimmy James in the Barbershop franchise, spent four seasons as Detective Temple Page in CBS police drama The District or, more recently, portrayed Gene Mobley, partner of Mamie Till and father-figure to Emmett in Till, the sharp-jawed, warm-eyed actor had carved out his own corner of YA drama success.
During that time, he would star in films like Save the Last Dance and Halloween: Resurrection, roles that would follow his memorable turn as Ronald Clifford in Roger Kumble’s Cruel Intentions. Thomas took on the role of the music tutor to the rich, naive and virginal Cecile Caldwell (Selma Blair), with whom he falls in love with before their relationship is sabotaged by the ruthless, scheming step-sibling duo of Kathryn Merteuil (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe...

“Cruel Intentions” is getting a new life in Prime Video’s TV series adaptation, which takes the twisted tale to collegiate Greek life.
Sarah Catherine Hook and Zac Burgess star as Caroline Merteuil and Lucien Belmont, respectively, step siblings who strike up a malicious deal for Lucien to seduce the VP’s daughter, Annie Grover (Savannah Lee Smith), who Caroline sees as her ticket to make her sorority untouchable amid backlash for a controversial hazing incident.
The main characters follow closely in the footsteps of the 1999 movie, Selma Blair’s Cecile Caldwell transforming into Sara Silva’s CeCe Carroway. Sean Patrick Thomas also reprises his role from the movie as CeCe’s love interest, but with more of an age difference this time.

The cast of Gen V comes together to celebrate the end of season 2's production in new behind-the-scenes photos. Prime Video today released the official trailer and key art for The Sticky, a fast-paced, dark comedy series from Blumhouse Television, inspired by a real-life heist that made global headlines in 2012, which saw more than $18 million worth of maple syrup stolen from Quebec’s national reserves.
From showrunners Brian Donovan and Ed Herro, The Sticky combines moments of culture-clash hilarity, edge-of-the-seat excitement, and heartbreaking drama. All six episodes premiere on Good December 6 exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories around the world.
The Sticky follows Ruth Landry (three-time Emmy Award winner Margo Martindale), a tough, middle-aged maple syrup farmer who turns to crime when the bureaucratic authorities threaten to take away everything she loves.
She teams up with the hot-tempered Bostonian mobster (Chris Diamantopoulos) and a mild-mannered French-Canadian security guard (Guillaume Cyr) to carry out a multi-million-dollar heist on Quebec’s maple syrup surplus.

We're currently between seasons of The Boys, Prime Video's subversive superhero show about a world where superheroes are both real and completely awful. The fifth and final season of The Boys will likely air in 2026, wrapping up the story of the conflict between sociopathic superman Homelander and nigh-sociopathic superhero-hater Billy Butcher.
But Amazon has no intention of letting that be the end of things. It's already aired a first season of one spinoff show called Gen V, set at a college where young superheroes are trained to use their powers and avoid moral accountability for their actions. There's also a Spanish-language spinoff planned called The Boys: Mexico.
Finally, there's Vought Rising, a prequel series that will explore the foundations of Vought, the massive corporation behind a lot of the superheroes we come to meet and loathe on The Boys. Vought Rising will revolve around two characters we met on the original series: Soldier Boy,...

Sometimes, looking back can help with what’s coming next.
That was the message from Sony Pictures Television Studios president Katherine Pope on Wednesday during a keynote interview in Rome at the Italian confab Mia, in which she addressed everything from Season 5 of The Boys to calling for gaps between seasons to shrink.
Asked to apply her experience — which includes a decade at NBCUniversal, long before joining Sony more than two years ago — she said certain principles from the broadcast system could help inform a better way to produce in the future.
“There was a sense of time and money in the U.S. broadcast system,” she said. “You really had to get shows done. You did not have a choice. We’re now seeing the hangover of the boom times, and people will say they don’t know if they can do it for this amount of money or make the schedule.

It makes sense, of course. Season 4 was a mean, bleak season of TV mired in misery. From the political satire that got too real to Homelander getting away with everything he could possibly imagine, and even a literal coup that all but disbands the titular "lads," there is only so much that "The Boys" can throw at its audience before it bears too strong a resemblance to the real world. Still, the show is doing a brilliant job of adapting its source material and making the story feel fresh and new while also following the comics.

Snowpiercer, the show where Daveed Diggs plays a freedom fighter aboard a train rocketing through a dystopian wasteland, literally just wrapped up a few days ago, which means Diggs is newly unemployed. Hooray for good timing: it's been announced on the official page for The Boys that Diggs will be joining the show for its fifth and final season, although we don't have any details on who he'll be playing:

Gen V's first season made a huge impression, leading to a second installment being greenlit, and one tease hints at the spinoff setting up a feud that could rival Butcher vs. Homelander. While creating another The Boys spinoff sounded like a massive risk on paper, Gen V's university setting helped the show stand out and excel, making the project a big hit. Not only did the series introduce its own memorable characters and interesting story, but it tied into the main show perfectly, resulting in Gen V being renewed for season 2, which will be released in 2025.
With The Boys season 4's ending having big implications for Gen V's second season, the stakes look to be higher than ever, with more conflict on the horizon. As a result, things are set to get more personal between the spinoff's main protagonists and antagonists, with season 2 already teasing a big feud.

Women are falling out of focus on the small screen. According to a new report on gender and hiring in TV presented by IMDbPro and ReFrame — an initiative of Sundance Institute and Wif — women lost gains made over the past several years in nearly every position analyzed.
Last year’s data found that women (or gender-diverse performers) accounted for 54 percent of lead roles, while the new report details a decrease of 13 percent to 41 percent. Also released as part of the study, ReFrame and IMDbPro award a Stamp to recognize gender-balanced hiring on television shows, and this year 77 of the 200 most popular TV and streaming series of 2023-24 earned the distinction (or 38.5 percent). The total represents a dip of 8.5 percent from last year, or 20 percent from a peak in 2020-21.

The Boys offers a unique take on superheroes, exploring consequences of super-powered beings in society. Characters like Hughie and Kimiko showcase a diverse range of powers and abilities within the show. The series features a variety of memorable supes, with unique strengths and weaknesses depicted throughout the seasons.
The Boys is based on a long-running comic series, but Prime Video's adaptation is an intriguing idea that takes a slightly more measured approach to the deconstruction of the superhero genre, and this shows in The Boys powers. The show wrestles with questions like "What are the consequences of having super-powered superheroes in society with the everyday person?" and "What happens when superheroes aren't all decent people and become more concerned about their celebrity status than the people they are supposed to protect?"

The Boys season 5 must focus solely on its own story, avoiding setup for future shows to ensure a focused, satisfying conclusion. The final episodes should stand on their own without relying on connections to upcoming spinoffs for impact, or making the story feel like it didn't get fully resolved, as other franchises have done. The storytelling needs to be tight to give characters fitting endings and not cheapen the series with unresolved plot threads.
The Boys season 5 is going to be the final batch of episodes in the main show, but it needs to avoid a common franchise mistake to ensure a good ending. The Boys season 4 ended with the titular group in the worst position they've ever been in. With Butcher killing Victoria Neuman now painting a target on their backs, everyone except their former leader and Starlight were captured by Vought in the last minutes of the finale.

To quote Billy Butcher, season 4 of The Boys was diabolical. It was nothing like the comic books, and that’s more than okay. Most of the story wouldn’t work in TV show form. Thankfully, showrunner Eric Kripke and the creative team recognized this and made the appropriate changes.
If you’re a fan of the show, the upcoming final season is bittersweet. Unlike Supernatural, it’s doubtful The Boys goes on past season 5. Except for Butcher and Homelander’s fight, all the stories have been told. Plus, there are spinoffs like Gen V, The Boys: Mexico, and possibly more. Deadline reports that Kripke, “hopes to be involved in the expansion of the world, but not as a showrunner.”
The spinoffs aren’t the only things to look forward to. Let's look at what else we know about season 5 of The Boys.

With “Gen V” becoming an instant fan-favorite and season four of “The Boys” garnering some of the best viewership numbers the series has ever received, showrunner Eric Kripke and Amazon are doubling-down on superhero satire. At San Diego Comic-Con this past Friday, Prime Video announced they will be extending “The Boys” universe with a prequel series entitled “Vought Rising” starring Aya Cash, who played Stormfront in season two of the original series, and Jensen Ackles, who played Soldier Boy in season three.
The series will be set in 1950s New York City and in a recent interview with Variety, Kripke described it as a long-gestating project that is finally just coming to fruition now.
“We’ve actually had this idea in our pocket for a really long time,” Kripke said. “And in fact, when I went to Amazon, to pitch spinoffs, I came with two spinoffs, ‘Gen V’ and ‘Vought Rising.

Gen V introduces a whole host of new Supes with powers that range from the extraordinary to the purely erotic, making it difficult to pinpoint the most powerful Supe in the series. The ranking system at God U is corrupt, influenced by politics and money, and determines a Supes' powers, combat ability, and their ability to attract donations. Harper, with purely aesthetic powers, is at the bottom of the ranking, while Golden Boy, with thermonuclear powers and super strength, is near the top.

“The Boys” showrunner Eric Kripke says that newly announced spinoff series “Vought Rising” will be “‘L.A. Confidential’ with superheroes” — and that he’s been planning the prequel show, led by Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy and Aya Cash’s Stormfront, for quite a while.
“We’ve actually had this idea in our pocket for a really long time,” Kripke told Variety during an interview after the show’s Comic-Con panel Friday. “And in fact, when I went to Amazon, to pitch spinoffs, I came with two spinoffs, ‘Gen V’ and ‘Vought Rising.’ And at the time, they said, ‘Let’s start with “Gen V,”‘ and we’ll see how it goes and then maybe we’ll do ‘Rising.’ It turns out it went Ok. I’m just fascinated with the history of how we became who we became. ‘The Boys’ itself is basically a film noir. It’s like cops and robbers.
