Believe it or not, 12-year-old Emma Stone, with big dreams and hilarious ideas, was almost ready to make her mark in the world of sketch comedy. She had even auditioned for Nickelodeon’s All That, the beloved sketch show that was basically SNL for kids. But unfortunately, her breakout moment was derailed by… well, her possessed babysitter character.

That’s right, Emma Stone, the actress popularly known for her iconic role in Amazing Spider-Man films and winning the Oscar for La La Land and Poor Things, had apparently come up with the character of a possessed babysitter for All That. Well, while the idea wasn’t bad for a 12-year-old, it was indeed a little too exorcist for Nickelodeon’s kid-friendly vibe.

Emma Stone was once hoping to be a part of the sketch comedy show All That, which helped launch the careers of Amanda Bynes and many others. But Stone didn’t get the chance to work with the iconic 90s cast, which actually paid off for her in the end.
The last-minute change that doomed Emma Stone’s ‘All That’ audition Emma Stone | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Stone would’ve fit right in with the other young child actors in the Nickelodeon hit show All That. She’d even worked with a few of the cast’s alums, like Bynes in Easy A. Additionally, she’s also worked alongside Keenan Thompson on Saturday Night Live. Her background in theater and her own comedic instincts would’ve served the show well.
“Well, I always loved acting and improv and sketch comedy and theater, which I did at a local youth theater,” Stone once told Cinemablend.

Emma Stone might be in a whole bunch of your favorite movies — but what are her favorites?
In January 2024, Stone spoke to Letterboxd — the social media site centered around movies — about her "four favorites," a regular interview the outlet does with major Hollywood celebrities. After appearing visibly stressed by the prospect of only picking four movies, Stone responds that Charlie Chaplin's 1931 comedy "City Lights" is her all-time favorite movie. "I love 'Network,'" Stone continued, name-checking the 1976 dark comedy that won Best Picture at the 49th Academy Awards in 1977. "'Mikey and Nicky,' I just saw it for the first time a couple of weeks ago," Stone raved, citing Elaine May's movie (also from 1976) about a mobster and his best friend (played by John Cassavetes and Peter Falk). "I love almost every Cassavetes movie — that one wasn't Cassavetes, he's just in it. It's obviously Elaine May, who's a genius,...

Within the context of film discourse, the quote ‘every frame a painting’ is a figurative saying that refers to the fact that a movie is stunningly photographed to the point that each still image in isolation could stand as an artwork in and of itself. However, in the breathtaking work of Polish directors, Dk and Hugh Welchman, this takes a more literal meaning, as every frame of their films is indeed an oil painting handcrafted by a crew of around a hundred artists.
The Welchmans first used this arduous but incredibly rewarding animation technique in their previous film, the Oscar-nominated “Loving Vincent” (2017), which paid tribute to van Gogh by emulating his own brushwork, with the added difference of movement. Moreover, the color palette used for the film also resembled that found in the work of the late artist—different tonalities of blues, yellows, and greens. This time around, the filmmakers...

Stanley Tucci is opening up about the time after starring in The Devil Wears Prada, the 2006 David Frankel film in which he co-starred with Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Anne Hathaway.
In a new interview, Tucci revealed he had difficulty booking another job after the film despite the box office success it had.
“After The Devil Wears Prada, I couldn’t get a job, and I didn’t quite understand that, but that’s just the way it was,” Tucci told Vanity Fair. “So I went and did stuff that I didn’t necessarily want to do, but I did it.”
Tucci noted that in his career he has “always gone through these fluctuations, and sometimes it’s just the business. Sometimes it was personal reasons why you can’t work.”

It turns out that “The Devil Wears Prada” just might have put Stanley Tucci’s career in purgatory.
The “Conclave” actor told Vanity Fair that it was difficult for him to find work following the iconic 2006 film. Tucci played a creative director who works for Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly and also helps new hire Andy (Anne Hathaway) assimilate into the corporate fashion world. While Tucci’s character Nigel is technically a supporting role, it’s certainly a standout one. Not that casting directors noticed.

Several child actors get launched in Hollywood every year, but only a few manage to leave an indelible mark. One such actress was Amanda Bynes, who started acting at the young age of seven. Soon she began to appear in several advertisements and shows, skyrocketing her career in Tinsel Town. However given the difficult demands and stress of the business, she declared an indefinite hiatus from acting in 2010.

"The Mick" creators and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" writers Dave and John Chernin made their feature directorial debut with "Incoming," a coming-of-age sex comedy for Netflix about a group of incoming freshmen attending their first high school party. It's a raucous, raunchy, ridiculous night of debauchery featuring a 14-year-old running a control room of spy cams, plenty of upperclassmen making the beast with two backs in random open bedrooms, a science teacher desperately trying to appear cool by taking shots of Fireball and ripping bongs with students, fist fights leading to broken noses, accidentally falling into a K-hole, running from the cops, and drunkenly sharting out a night's worth of Taco Bell binge-eating.
"Incoming" is an attempt to merge the tradition of beloved high school stories with the over-the-top screwball sex comedies of the 1970s and '80s, and when it works, it really works. Similar to recent high...

According to director Will Gluck, studios wanted anything but “Anyone but You” in theaters. Gluck told The Hollywood Reporter that while he received numerous streaming offers for the original rom-com starring Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney, he had to “convince” studios to even entertain a theatrical release. Thankfully, Gluck’s longtime partnership with Columbia led to the film opening in theaters. The rest is history — and profit.
“It was a little bit of a battle to convince everybody,” Gluck said. “I just had to explain how good the people in the movie are and how impactful a theatrical experience could be.”
Gluck previously directed adaptations of “Annie” and “Peter Rabbit” for Columbia. He also helmed several projects for Columbia’s sister label Screen Gems, including the beloved “Easy A.”
“Anyone but You” went on to gross $88 million domestically against a $25 million budget. The film earned $220.2 million at the worldwide box office.

In the space of a little over 15 years, Emma Stone has gone from being Jonah Hill‘s main squeeze in “Superbad” to becoming a two-time Academy Award-winning actress. Certainly, Stone is someone who has paid her dues, regularly guesting on a myriad of television shows as a teen. She transitioned into film work with “Superbad” and soon landed her first major leading role in “Easy A,” which brought Stone her first Golden Globe nomination.
Stone quickly began working on major projects with A-list casts and top directors, films that include the 2014 Best Picture winner “Birdman,” for which Stone received her first Oscar nomination and the musical “La La Land,” for which she won the Academy Award. 2018 marked Stone’s first collaboration with Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos, whose period black comedy “The Favourite” brought Stone her third Oscar nomination, and for their second, the darkly comic fantasy “Poor Things,” she won...

Axel Foley returning to Beverly Hills, an animated feature from former Studio Ghibli talent, a jaw-dropping doc about love-struck “rooftoppers” and final seasons from three big shows — a Spanish teen drama, a viking saga and Daniel Larusso’s last hurrah — are some of the highlights on Netflix in July.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, Netflix’s high profile feature release for this month, arrives on July 3. The fourth installment in the Eddie Murphy-led action-comedy franchise, sees Detroit detective Axel Foley return to Beverly Hills, thirty years after his last visit. This time, Foley must team up with a new partner — played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt — when his daughter’s (Taylour Paige) life is threatened. Franchise fans will be happy to see regulars Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold), John Taggart (John Ashton), Jeffrey Friedman (Paul Reiser) and Serge (Bronson Pinchot) make appearances and series newcomer Kevin Bacon is also part of the action as Captain Grant.

Kinds of Kindness stars Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons are at it again! The duo is teaming up with Poor Things filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos for the filmmaker’s next feature-length film project, Bugonia. The Will Tracy-written film arrives in theaters on November 7, 2025.
According to the film’s description, Bugonia revolves around “two conspiracy-obsessed young men who kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth.” While the plot sounds slightly off-beat for a Yorgo Lanthimos joint, I’ll remind you that the Poor Things director is unafraid of getting weird for the camera, making Bugonia one of 2025’s most intriguing releases.
If the plot for Bugonia sounds familiar, it’s because the project is based on the South Korean sci-fi comedy Save the Green Planet, written and directed by Jang Joon-Hwan. I saw Save the Green Planet! years ago...

Eric Newman was the showrunner for the Netflix series “Narcos” in 2015 when Sofia Vergara – then in the middle of her run starring as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on the multiple Emmy-winning comedy “Modern Family” – invited him to her home to pitch him on the idea of her fronting a project where she portrayed the Colombian drug “queenpin” Griselda Blanco. “Obviously I knew her work and was a fan of hers,” Newman recalls. “I also knew she (Vergara) was Colombian, which is an important distinction. And I knew a lot about Griselda Blanco and was fascinated with her as a character. I felt that if Sofia was willing to take the risk…just the thought that she was interested in doing this was appealing. So I went into the meeting very excited and hopeful that I would be met with a level of passion and conviction that would help make my decision very easy – and I was.

Emma Stone is one of the best actresses in Hollywood, and any doubts regarding this stood clear when she won the Academy Award for Best Actress at the 96th Academy Awards. Her stunning performance as Bella Baxter in the 2023 movie Poor Things won her the second Academy Award of her career; she won her first Academy Award for the 2016 movie La La Land.
Stone has assimilated a huge net worth over the last two decades of her acting career. While the bulk of her net worth is all thanks to her career as an actress, she also owes some of it to the properties she has flipped.

Actress Emma Stone has made waves this year with her Oscar-nominated performance in the dark comedy Poor Things. The actress was universally lauded for her performance as Bella Baxter in the period comedy which also starred Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, and Ramy Youssef. The film was directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, who collaborated with Stone again after The Favorite.
Emma Stone has been nominated thrice before, winning Best Actress once for La La Land. This time, Stone shares the nominations with actresses such as Lily Gladstone, Sandra Huller, Carey Mulligan, and Annette Bening. Despite her worldwide stardom, the Easy A star is reportedly not the richest actress in the nominations. That post reportedly goes to veteran actress Annette Bening, who is nominated for her role in Nyad.

Emma Stone had the opportunity to play Spider-Man’s main love interest Gwen Stacey in The Amazing Spider-Man series. But how close was she to the character’s actual age?

Stone was already used to playing high school characters before snagging her role in The Amazing Spider-Man. Her breakthrough feature, Superbad, saw her portraying a high school crush. Then she went on to revisit high school in the movie Easy A, where she played the lead. The Amazing Spider-Man would continue this tradition for Stone, as it saw her playing high school student Gwen Stacey.
Although Stone wasn’t technically a teenager during the film, she was close enough. It was announced in October 2010 that she was cast in the film, with production beginning for the feature in December of that same year. This would...

Romantic comedies are alive and well, it seems, and we have a couple of emerging, A-list movie stars to thank for it. "Anyone But You" has officially crossed the $200 million mark at the box office in one of the most unlikely turnarounds for a movie in years, financially speaking. But the star power of Glen Powell ("Top Gun: Maverick") and Sydney Sweeney ("Euphoria") got the attention of the moviegoing masses and they turned this lower-mid-budget rom-com into the biggest hit the genre has seen in nearly a decade.
The Sony Pictures release has amassed $87 million domestically to go with a stellar $113 million internationally, per Variety. That puts it past the total of other recent hits in the genre, including "Ticket to Paradise" ($168 million), which starred both Julia Roberts and George Clooney, as well as "The Lost City" ($192 million), which was led by Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum. In the early 2000s, Amanda Bynes was the darling of teen comedies, starring alongside heartthrob Channing Tatum in the 2006 romantic comedy, She’s the Man. Yet, she has been out of the acting business for over a decade, which is difficult to believe. The Emma Stone-starring comedy flick Easy A, which came out in September 2010, was the She’s the Man star’s last acting role.
But in recent years, Bynes, 37, has been in the news more for her erratic behavior than her acting chops. Recently, fans have begun to express concern about her mental health after she announced a major career change.

It does not take much time in the era of social media for a photo or a moment to get attention online. It is also bound to cause a stir worldwide when it features an alluring photo of such stunning stars. Recently, the renowned filmmaker Will Gluck blew everyone away when he shared a not-safe-for-work (Nsfw) picture of Anyone But You’s leading face, Glen Powell. Did we also mention that this snap was pretty sure to become an internet sensation?
Sydney Sweeney and Powell made significant contributions to the rom-com genre towards the end of last year. Audiences were eager to see how they heated up the screen after their 103-minute flick became one of the most talked-about movies of the year. Sony’s Anyone But You, which was co-written and directed by Gluck, is billed as a contemporary—and a very loose— adaptation of William Shakespeare’s comedy Much Ado About Nothing.

Do movie stars exist anymore? The consensus seems to be no. Or, at the very least, new ones aren’t being created past the generation of roughly Leonardo DiCaprio. Which is a shame, because if movie stars were still allowed to thrive in Hollywood now, Emma Stone would certainly be one of them.
After several supporting roles in films like “Superbad” and “Zombieland,” Stone practically burst onto the scene in “Easy A,” her first leading role. As the sharp-tongued but likable teen protagonist in Will Gluck’s comedy, Stone defined her star image immediately: an everywoman appeal mixed with pure charisma, a playfully snarky disposition, and a genuine talent at comedy that makes her pop off the screen. From that film and her Golden Globes nomination, the then 22-year old Stone quickly moved from the teen comedy world into broader pastures, though the projects she chose didn’t always match her potential.

Anyone But You filmmaker Will Gluck has returned to the genre in which he first made his name.
The New York native has spent much of the past decade making family films such as Annie (2014) and two Peter Rabbit movies, mainly because he wanted to entertain his own young family. Now that his children are older, Gluck has made his way back to the star-driven (and star-making) romantic comedy after beginning his romcom career with Emma Stone and Penn Badgley in 2010’s Easy A and then Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake in 2011’s Friends with Benefits. He’s currently taking the same approach with Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell in Anyone But You, which is loosely based on William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing.
With the major studios all deprioritizing the comedy genre the last handful of years, Gluck admits that he felt a pressure to recapture the theatrical...

When Glen Powell signed on to star in Anyone But You alongside Sydney Sweeney, he was more than ready to fulfill the classic romantic-comedy tropes: a few steamy love scenes, some silly and borderline cheesy dialogue, and, of course, plenty of shirtless beach shots. So imagine his surprise when he also found himself dangling from a broken-down helicopter flying above shark-infested waters while filming in Australia’s Sydney Harbour. “The helicopter had serious mechanical issues, and we had to emergency land in a field nearby. If we crashed, we would’ve been history.

A convincing romantic and erotic attraction, we can all agree, is one of the keys to a good rom-com. Do you believe these two people love each other? Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell definitely have that in “Anyone but You.” It begins with the simple fact that both are such splendid camera objects. She, with her goldfish eyes and pout of self-possession, looks like a more wised-up, no-nonsense Brigitte Bardot, while he, with his squinty eyes and killer grin, resembles Tom Cruise with a weird touch of the young Dustin Hoffman’s geek glamour. These two have “mega movie stars of tomorrow” written all over them, though not merely because they look so good. Both are lightning-fast actors, delivering the spiked screwball banter and — important for this movie — the toxic insults with airy aplomb.
For, of course, the history of romantic comedy is also powered by another dynamic, one nearly as important as love.

America has been starved for pure, unapologetic, multiplex-grade romantic comedies, and Will Gluck’s “Anyone but You” doesn’t waste any time announcing itself as one of those. The first five minutes alone serve up a classic meet-cute in a coffee shop, a funny but wholly illogical bit of physical comedy involving a splash of water that might be mistaken for a pee stain, and a magical — but chaste — night together in a personality-less bachelor pad that looks just like an Ikea showroom.
If not for the hint of self-awareness that allows Bea (Sydney Sweeney) to put Ben (Glen Powell) on blast for his dude-bro decor, nothing about this prologue would seem the least bit out of place at the start of a mid-tier Julia Roberts movie from 1997. Not the leading man whose chiseled smile makes your own features seem like the parody of a face by comparison, nor the...

Anyone who’s seen Glen Powell in Richard Linklater’s terrifically enjoyable Hit Man will know he’s a bona fide movie star with charisma to burn. If you were paying attention, that was evident even in Top Gun: Maverick. And Sydney Sweeney has shown impressive range, serving delicious mean-girl snark in season one of The White Lotus, tracing a self-destructive spiral on Euphoria and demonstrating serious dramatic chops in Reality. But neither screen chemistry nor laughs can be manufactured, especially not with the kind of pedestrian writing in Will Gluck’s Anyone But You, which does nothing to reanimate the moribund studio rom-com.
Before he got busy with two Peter Rabbit movies that apparently do exist, or the unfortunate 2014 Annie remake, Gluck turned heads with the 2010 teen comedy Easy A, a contemporary take on The Scarlet Letter elevated by a star-making turn from Emma Stone. The director riffs on...
