Why "The Cage" Tos Talosian storyline needs continuity in Snw
With the upcoming S3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, headed by Captain Pike (portrayed by Anson Mount), I was intrigued by the potential continuation of Pike’s Klingon Time Stone-induced visions of his future injuries—life-threatening injuries that will eventually render him paralyzed and speechless from a radiation accident that occurred on the U.S.S. Constitution.
To connect all the Starfleet dots in and around the Kelvin versus the Prime Timeline, I recently rewatched S1 E1 “The Cage” of Tos with Captain Pike (portrayed by Jeffrey Hunger) - where the iconic Talosian storyline began. Pike's first adventure on the U.S.S. Enterprise and his life-altering bout with the Talosians of Talos IV, the fourth planet in the Talosian star system. We witness, for the first time, a hostile first contact with an alien species that essentially has...

"Star Trek" hasn't always been on the smoothest of journeys. "The Original Series," the best of "Trek," only lasted three seasons on NBC before the network axed it due to low ratings. Fans were bereft, but they kept the flame burning for a decade (and made do with two seasons of "The Animated Series"), and celebrated when director Robert Wise brought the crew of the Starship Enterprise back for "Star Trek: The Motion Picture." But when the movie failed to perform up to Paramount Pictures' box office expectations (grossing $83 million in the United States on a budget of $44 million), the franchise appeared to be on the ropes again.
Fortunately, director Nicholas Meyer came along and righted the starship with the more sensibly budgeted "Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan," which grossed $79 million in the U.S. and set the franchise on a profitable course that made "The Next Generation" viable; from there,...

Of all the iconic characters to come out of "Star Trek," one of the most notable of them all is Spock. Primarily the chief science officer on the starship Enterprise, Spock is a fixture on the bridge and the best friend of Captain James T. Kirk. Despite his often emotionless demeanor as a Vulcan, Spock finds himself at odds with his mixed heritage as he represses his human sentiments. Even though Spock's initial tenure on the Enterprise came to an end with the cancellation of "Star Trek: The Original Series" in 1969, the character is a recurring staple in the franchise.
The role of Spock was originated by Leonard Nimoy, with Zachary Quinto and Ethan Peck each offering their own interpretations of the character in subsequent projects. Simply put, Spock has become the face of "Star Trek," appearing in numerous series throughout the franchise's history. This prominence has led to Spock...

Star Trek is at a crossroads. The franchise has seen three series underperform to some degree to kick off the Nu Trek era of the franchise, all while burning through money that Paramount+ will likely no longer be giving to any one show or film ever again. What little success the franchise has had was due to going back to basics, like with Star Trek: Prodigy and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Both shows fully embrace the classic Star Trek approach to storytelling and to great effect. Even then, however, shows like Prodigy weren't safe as Paramount+ canceled the show after the toy line attached to the series failed to turn enough money. Since then, everything has been lean.
Ever since reports came out that investors and banks wanted returns on investment for streaming services, Paramount+ has been cutting costs across the board, as has Paramount Global. When the money facets turned off,...

It's hard to deny that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' musical episode, "Subspace Rhapsody" was a good idea. The episode is one of the worst-reviewed episodes of not only the series history but of the franchise's. It's seen as a down point for the otherwise pretty successful Strange New Worlds series and only one other episode is more poorly reviewed for the show; "The Elysian Kingdom".
Musical episodes are usually a dying gasp from a series, a cheap ploy to get viewers back into the show. The only problem is, unless the show already is heavily incorporated with music (see Glee), all you end up doing is pushing the fandom away. Save for a small sect of fans, most Star Trek fans never wanted a musical episode. Whether you like it is entirely your own personal preference, but the score the episode has on Idmb is indicative of how many fans didn't want it.

Paramount+ didn’t exactly shine in terms of its ad experience during my test of the streamer.
Paramount+ isn’t exactly in the bargain basement of streaming any longer. At $8 per month for ad-supported streaming, it’s firmly in the neighborhood of larger streamers like Netflix and Disney+ as far as monthly price goes. It already seems like a long time since you could get an ad-supported Paramount+ account for closer to $5 monthly.
The price of Paramount+ has gone up, but how is the ad experience for those trying to save money by streaming with commercials? I signed up for an ad-supported Paramount+ account to try it out and I was not all that thrilled with my experience.
What’s the ad experience like on Paramount+?

Most in Star Trek fandom can agree that Leonard Nimoy’s Tos portrayal of a half Vulcan/half Human is and will remain the singularly quintessential Spock across all mediums and timelines - Kelvin or otherwise. Given Nimoy's Spock in Tos and various Star Trek feature films, the canon continues with other actors performing the daunting task of portraying Spock in feature film reboots and TV series. Actors Zachary Quinto and Ethan Peck have both recreated the iconic Spock role in their respective Star Trek projections and each has a unique take on this enigmatic, logic-driven first officer, with mommy issues.
Zachary Quinto’s Spock takes place in the Kelvin timeline based on the rebooted Star Trek feature films, beginning with “Star Trek” (2009), to “Star Trek Into Darkness” (2013), and “Star Trek Beyond” (2016). Within Star Trek canon, Spock is a half-human Vulcan struggling with suppressing his human emotions over logic, reason,...

Star Trek: The Original Series had a formula that worked for it at the time. The main focus of the show was on Captain James T. Kirk [William Shatner] leading the Enterprise into space battles with Mr. Spock [Leonard Nimoy] being the voice of reason and the font of scientific knowledge. Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy [DeForest Kelley] was usually part of the three, playing wonderfully off Spock's irritating logic. But in the three years the series was on the air, we never really got to know the characters.
Their pasts came out in bits and pieces, with the exception of Bones, who we never really got to know at all. DeForest Kelley said essentially the same thing in an interview with Dan Madsen in the July/August 1995 edition of Star Trek Communicator, the magazine of Star Trek: The Official Fan Club. "I never felt that he [Bones] was utilized to his fullest,...

For years, Star Trek canon has underutilized its female heroines. Strong females have always been part of Starfleet missions and their success; however, it’s rare when only females are shown leading the charge to save the day. Starfleet female officers are just as capable as their male counterparts, and creators should feature them in storylines to their fullest potential.
Until series such as “Star Trek: Voyager” and “Star Trek: Discovery” with lead female captains in Janeway and Burnham, Star Trek lore has mostly been a boy's club where the men get all the action to save the crew, lead the mission, or protect an endangered planet. Recently, we have seen female leads like Phillipa Georgiou (Emperor of the Terran Empire), heading a crew of unsanctioned Starfleet Section 31 missions in “Star Trek: Section 31.”

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds committed a mishap in season two by trying to throw an ill-conceived musical into their series. For some reason, the folks running the franchise forgot what show they were on and decided to play into the wholly unfounded and perpetually disproven myth that "Star Trek can be any genre". The musical episode amused some but annoyed everyone else. Whether due to its poor songs, bad story, or just flat-out forgetting what and who this franchise is for.
The episode, entitled "Subspace Rhapsody" has just a 6.8 on IMDb. The second-lowest of the series. A sure sign that the fandom did not enjoy this episode. Some fans enjoyed it, and it does have its defenders. It's not terrible, especially with the franchise finding new and bold ways to disappoint the fanbase.
Yet, like wondering how hot a ghost pepper would actually be to eat, finding out what...

Jonathan Frakes directed Star Trek: First Contact (he was nominated for a Saturn Award for this one) as well as Star Trek: Insurrection. He's since gone on to direct almost thirty episodes of Star Trek, including Discovery and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and there's more coming with Starfleet Academy. Prolific as a director, Frakes has stayed more behind the camera than he has in front of it, and it's paid off. He knows good Star Trek (you can't really count the bad episodes like Sub Rosa from Star Trek: the Next Generation against him), and one can't help but wonder what Section 31 would have been like had Frakes been behind the camera.
Prior to writing Section 31, Craig Sweeney had written one episode of Star Trek for Discovery, which was the series third episode in its first season. That doesn't seem like enough experience to be handed the reins of a Star Trek movie.

After a big finale to the first Star Trek film in nearly a decade, there are a lot of questions left for the franchise to explore. While Star Trek: Section 31 returns Michelle Yeoh to the popular franchise, it also opens an important door for Alex Kurtzman’s expanding universe. The various shows have never had trouble recruiting top-tier talent. You can see it most clearly in the deep cast around Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. However, this might be one of the more significant finales of Kurtzman’s tenure.

Starfleet Academy is the newest Star Trek series coming to Paramount+. It will center around the first class of cadets in over 100 years as they work their way toward a career in Starfleet. Set in the 32nd century, the series will also bring back the emergency medical hologram [Robert Picardo] from Star Trek: Voyager as well as Tig Notaro from Star Trek: Discovery on a regular basis. Mary Wiseman [Sylvia Tilly] and Oded Fehr [Admiral Vance] will be recurring characters as well.
Now here's the exciting news. Starfleet Academy season one is two weeks away from completing production, according to Alex Kurtzman in an interview he gave Trekmovie. That means it could possibly release on Paramount before the end of 2025 as most series don't need nearly eleven months to complete post-production.
While we could see the first season this year, production for the second season is underway as the scripts are being written in the writers' room.

Does it ever feel like Star Trek fans don't actually like Star Trek? The franchise is nearly 60 years old and has a tried and true formula. It works for the fandom, and when it's done, the fandom receives it warmly. When it's ignored, the series fails to hold the same support by most of the fans.
We know this is the case because we've seen how the fandom has reacted for nearly seven years of the Nu Trek Era. When a show seems like a wild departure of Star Trek, the support isn't there. When it feels more in line with expectations, the support is there. Despite the Trek Method being tried and true, fans are constantly writing about the franchise being different than what it is.
That's like going to Pizza Hut and demanding fried fish. If you want fried fish, go to a fried fish joint. Simple logic.

There are a lot of people who want Star Trek to be Ricky and Morty, True Detective, or Stranger Things. They want this marvelous franchise to "expirament" in ways that don't help it grow. Time and time and time again we find out that the best Star Trek are the shows that stick to being Star Trek.
When Star Trek: Enterprise dropped the 'Star Trek' to just be Enterprise, fans weren't happy with it. When Star Trek's Discovery and Picard went super dark, fans were unhappy about it. When the franchise launched Lower Decks, fans weren't happy with it. Save for Discovery's later seasons and Picard's last season, none of those shows really trended well with the fandom or the casuals.
Yet, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is a ratings hit. Why? Because it adhered to the old formula of Star Trek shows. Which is what Star Trek fans want.

Exclusive: Paul Wesley, an actor who played a vampire on The Vampire Diaries, is executive producing a series project about a vampire who wants to be an actor. The untitled comedy, which landed at Fox for development in a competitive situation, centers on a determined 25-year-old vampire who struggles with running the family business for his murderous and suffocating vampire parents while trying to chase his dream to become an actor.
It is written by Unstable co-creator Victor Fresco and will be directed by Liz Friedlander (The Rookie). The duo and Wesley executive produce with Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment and Tracy Katsky of KatCo. Fox Entertainment is the studio.
The team of the project are all interconnected via past collaborations. Fresco created the Netflix horror comedy series Santa Clarita Diet, which he executive produced with Kaplan and Katsky. Friedlander and Wesley have been friends since she directed episodes of The Vampire Diaries.

Michelle Yeoh’s influence shaped the visual design of Star Trek: Section 31, as explained by the film's director and executive producer, Olatunde Osunsanmi. Set to premiere on Paramount+ on January 24, the film focuses on Captain Philippa Georgiou (portrayed by Yeoh), a key figure who previously appeared on Star Trek: Discovery, as she is tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets. Following Yeoh’s Oscar win in 2023 for Everything Everywhere All at Once and involvement in the 2024 hit Wicked, her return to Star Trek brings renewed attention to the covert operations of Starfleet's Section 31.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Osunsanmi shared that Yeoh’s performance directly influenced Star Trek: Section 31's visuals. Philippa Georgiou's fiery, relentless nature inspired an unpredictable and cinematic style, marking a departure from typical Star Trek aesthetics. This design approach reflects Georgiou’s duality and her journey of redemption, setting Star Trek: Section 31...

Chief of Engineering Montgomery Scott is one of the Star Trek characters with the most staying power; after his introduction in Star Trek: The Original Series, he has now reappeared in both Star Trek (2009) and most recently in the finale of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. From the very beginning, the Scotty of The Original Series (James Doohan) was something of a miracle worker: He solves seemingly unsolvable engineering problems impossibly quickly. It is hardly surprising, then, that Scotty keeps coming back to Star Trek.
Like many characters in Tos, Scotty's backstory is left unspecified. It wasn't even confirmed that he was born in Scotland until the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Relics." For Tos, it was less important to specify how Scotty came to be than it was to show what adventures he faced with the crew of the Enterprise. This meant that when Scotty was re-introduced in...

Star Trek: Lower Decks will likely be the last show of its kind. An animated, comedy, science fiction series, that caters almost exclusively to a niche audience? Yeah, we're not seeing that again anytime soon. The circumstances for its existence will never be replicated.
Paramount+ needed dynamic content that catered to multiple types of people and only had a fininte amount of franchises to pull from. Seeing this was at a time when the money was flowing freely from banks and investors, Paramount took the money in order to build up Paramount+.
So they greenlit shows, regardless of how much interest or money they drew. They needed original content to compete with other services, and with the influx of money coming in to do just that, Paramount got bold and took risks.
Now, those same investors want their money back. This isn't exclusively a Paramount issue, as most streaming services...

Star Trek has two TV series guaranteed for the next two years, and yet it feels like the franchise is on the wane. Star Trek television was resurrected by Star Trek: Discovery in 2017, which was the first new Star Trek TV series in 12 years after Star Trek: Enterprise was canceled in 2005. Discovery's success ushered in an expansive Star Trek on Paramount+ streaming franchise, which came to boast Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Lower Decks, Star Trek: Prodigy, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Although there have been 13 Star Trek theatrical movies - and the first Star Trek made-for-streaming movie, Star Trek: Section 31, premieres January 24 on Paramount+ - Star Trek has always been fundamentally a TV franchise. Star Trek is at its best on television, which allows for the long-form storytelling needed to explore complex moral quandaries and Star Trek's massive pantheon of beloved characters.

Ever since Mr. Spock's (Leonard Nimoy) first appearance in Star Trek: The Original Series, Vulcans have been a staple of Star Trek cannon. In shows like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds or Star Trek: Voyager among others, Vulcans stand front and center. In other shows, like Star Trek: The Next Generation or Star Trek: Discovery, Vulcans may not be on the bridge, but Vulcan characters nevertheless have a lot of influence. Even in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, where Vulcan characters are few and far between, the influence of Vulcans on the Federation as a whole remains palpable.
The reason for their influence is obvious: Vulcans are iconic. From their green blood to the elegant Vulcan nerve pinch that few non-Vulcans can replicate, the various Vulcans of Star Trek never fail to impress both audiences and crewmembers alike. But what really sets Vulcans apart are not their physical abilities,...

Every so often a site will decide to rank the Star Trek series in worst to best order. With more series having been added to the franchise, we have more to take into consideration now, and Entertainment Weekly's Chris Snellgrove took on the task of a new ranking order recently, calling it "our definitive take on every show in the sci-fi franchise." And the choices are bound to cause some disagreements, some of them vehement. In fact, the opposition has even started in the comments section.
Entertainment Weekly chose Star Trek: Picard as the worst of the series, and that set many fans off. Though the series wasn't everyone's cup of tea, the third season of Picard was an epic success and gave the Star Trek: The Next Generation cast a much better send-off than they'd gotten in their final movie together, Star Trek: Nemesis.

The 2000s saw the surprising rise of the vampire-romance genre with actors like Paul Wesley and Robert Pattinson becoming overnight heartthrobs. The former appeared in the wildly popular teen-drama series The Vampire Diaries, which premiered in 2009, a year after the first installment in Pattinson’s Twilight film series took the world by storm.

A few decades later, Pattinson and Wesley seem to have moved on from their most popular vampire roles. However, when it comes to returning to their bloodsucking habits, the two actors have polar opposite opinions. While Pattinson is more open to the idea, Wesley has completely shut the door. Here is what Wesley had to say about the possibility of reprising his The Vampire Diaries role.

Let's disregard quality. When it comes to the quality of Star Trek programming, it's entirely subjective. You can make your arguments for or against but in the end there is no viable way to determine if something is definitively good or bad. Let's ignore quality for that reason. When we talk about 2024 as far as the Star Trek brand is concerned, it's undoubtedly a bad year for the brand.
We saw Playmates end their toy line with Star Trek at the end of 2023/start of 2024, taking Star Trek off of toy shelves after only being back on them for a short while. We saw the delay of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the revival of Star Trek: Prodigy on Netflix, the end of Discovery, the cancellation and end of Lower Decks, and nearly 10 years later, still no movement on Star

Anticipation is high for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 following season 2's nail-biting cliffhanger. Strange New Worlds season 2's finale, "Hegemony," saw Captain Pike (Anson Mount) and the crew of the USS Enterprise defy Starfleet orders to rescue Captain Marie Batel (Melanie Scrofano) and the colonists of the planet Parnassus Beta. By the end of Strange New Worlds' thrilling season 2 finale, Lt. Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong), Lt. Sam Kirk (Dan Jeannotte), Dr. M'Benga (Babs Olusanmokun), and Lt. Ortegas (Melissa Navia) are captured by the Gorn and Batel has become a host to the terrifying alien species' parasitic eggs.

Colm Meaney became known to the Star Trek community as Chief Miles O'Brien, first serving aboard the Enterprise on Star Trek: The Next Generation before his character moved to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Meaney played the character from 1987-1999, appearing in 225 episodes. Since then, the Irish-born actor has gone on to appear in popular series like Hell on Wheels alongside another Star Trek actor, Anson Mount, who is now playing Captain Christopher Pike on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
The prolific actor has maintained a busy schedule since his time on Star Trek came to an end, and now, he's being honored for his fifty-year career by being awarded the Irish Academy's Lifetime Achievement Award. Dame Judi Dench and Gabriel Byrne have been two of the other recipients of the award, and Meaney was quite surprised when he was announced as 2025's recipient.

Dream Productions further expands the world of the hit Disney Pixar Inside Out universe by filling some of the gap between the first movie and its hit sequel, Inside Out 2. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 is set to span many different genres, and include a few surprises, according to composer Nami Melumad. Strange New Worlds is the 11th show in the Star Trek franchise and debuted on Paramount+ in May 2022. So far, it has run for two seasons and 20 episodes. Starring Anson Mount, Ethan Peck, and Rebecca Romijn, the series follows the crew of the Starship Enterprise in the 23rd century, as they explore new worlds. The show received high viewership and critical acclaim, and Strange New Worlds season 3 is due for release in 2025.

In the early seasons of Star Trek: Discovery, ships in Starfleet use an interesting technology that rarely appears elsewhere in Star Trek. In the twenty-third century, when ships in Starfleet need to communicate with each other or with the Federation, they do so using holographic communicators. Throughout seasons 1 and 2 of Discovery, transparent semi-colored holograms flash into existence on the bridges of various starships - even Klingon vessels communicate with colorless holograms in Discovery. Nevertheless, after the USS Discovery jumps forward to the thirty-second century, the holographic communicators never appear again on Discovery.
Holographic communicators have a long history in Star Trek. In the timeline of every Star Trek series, Starfleet first encounters holograms in Star Trek: Enterprise. Holodecks, however, don't appear until Star Trek: The Next Generation, and in our world, the first appearance of holographic communicators came in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, where they are framed as new technology.

A harsh reality about Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) was exposed in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, but this trait also makes the Captain of the USS Enterprise admirable. Directed by Valerie Weiss and written by Dana Horgan, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 2, "Ad Astra Per Aspera" dealt with the court-martial of Lt. Commander Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn) Aka Number One. Una was nearly drummed out of Starfleet and imprisoned for lying about being a genetically engineered Illyrian.
One of the best Star Trek courtroom episodes ever, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' "Ad Astra Per Aspera" began with Captain Pike taking it upon himself to save Number One. Pike recruited Neera Ketoul (Yetude Badaki) as Una's defense counsel. Despite her reluctance after her childhood falling out with Una, Neera took on the United Federation of Planets' tribunal on Number One's behalf. While we're waiting for a premiere date for season three of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which will hopefully be in the first quarter of 2025, Trek Central reports that Production Weekly has confirmed that pre-production on the fourth season has already begun. Series star, Jess Bush, who plays Nurse Chapel, said back in November that the fourth season would begin filming in March 2025. It's entirely possible that filming will be underway while new season three episodes are airing.
Production Weekly has listed the first quarter of 2025 to July 2025 as the dates for work on season four of Strange New Worlds. While pre-production usually includes scheduling, sets, costumes, and the like, the second stage of the production involves the actual filming. The final stage of production is post-production which includes any edits, sound mixing, and special effects which can take a while. Filming for season three of the series wrapped on May 24, 2024, and,...

Star Trek has only hinted at the events of Admiral James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and the crew of the USS Enterprise's "lost years". In Star Trek's timeline, the 5-year mission of Captain Kirk and the Starship Enterprise seen in Star Trek: The Original Series took place from 2265-2269. Star Trek: The Motion Picture picked up in the 2270s, and the rest of the Star Trek: The Original Series movies follow a relatively tight chronology from 2285-2293, when Kirk and his Enterprise crew permanently go their separate ways.
Star Trek's 23rd century is well-documented overall. Although the events of the first four and a half decades of the 23rd century are largely unrecorded, between Star Trek: Discovery seasons 1 and 2, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Star Trek: The Original Series, and the first six Star Trek movies, there is a clear picture from the mid-2250s to 2293. However, in...

Star Trek's newest series, Starfleet Academy, is in production for the first season of the series, but in October 2024, the series was renewed for a second season. Paramount executives don't know how the new series will be accepted by fans, and it's a risky manuever to take a chance on the first season, let alone a second.
Though there has been some speculation that this is a cost-effective measure because there are fans looking forward to the series due to its setting and going behind the scenes of the Academy where every Starfleet officer got their start...well, most of them. There were one or two, like Jeri Ryan's Seven of Nine that got a field commission. So once the sets are built, it's easier to renew the series than to invest in an even newer series.
However, there are plenty of fans still wondering why Starfleet Academy...

Star Trek III: The Search for Spock makes an incorrect statement about how old Admiral James T. Kirk's (William Shatner) USS Enterprise was. Star Trek III picked up directly after the events of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, which culminated in the death of Captain Spock (Leonard Nimoy). Star Trek III would feature the death of another beloved and iconic Star Trek: The Original Series 'character': the Starship Enterprise itself.
At the beginning of the underrated Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, the USS Enterprise returned to Spacedock. Admiral Kirk assumed his starship would undergo repairs and be placed back on active duty. However, Fleet Admiral Morrow (Robert Hooks), the Commander of Starfleet, informed Kirk the Enterprise was at the end of its run and would be decommissioned. Morrow's rationale: "Jim, the Enterprise is 20 years old. We feel her day is over." Morrow's reasoning may have been sound,...

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has the opportunity to become the very definition of Star Trek on Paramount+ in 2025. After a 2 year delay caused by the combined SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 will finally premiere on Paramount+ in 2025. Strange New Worlds returns to a drastically different landscape since season 2 bowed out in 2023, as the prequel series about Captain Christopher Pike's (Anson Mount) USS Enterprise is now the only Star Trek on Paramount+ series scheduled for 2025.
The changing nature of the streaming business and the sale of Paramount Global to Skydance led to Paramount+ ending four of the five Star Trek series that began with Star Trek: Discovery in 2017. Along with Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Prodigy, and Star Trek: Lower Decks have all wrapped on Paramount+. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has introduced a classic legacy character in both of its season finales thus far, so who should appear in season 3? Set years before the events of Star Trek: The Original Series, Strange New Worlds follows the adventures of Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and his crew aboard the USS Enterprise. Eventually, Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) will take over command of this iconic starship from Captain Pike. Strange New Worlds' season 1 finale introduced Paul Wesley as an alternate future version of Captain Kirk and as Lt. James T. Kirk in a photo.
With a more substantial role in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, Paul Wesley has made the character of James Kirk his own, while still honoring the actors who played the role before him. Ethan Peck's Lieutenant Spock was introduced in Star Trek: Discovery season 2 and remains central to Strange New Worlds.

As Star Trek enters 2025, there remain 4 big things fans want. 2025 marks the 59th year since Star Trek: The Original Series premiered on NBC, and the franchise on Paramount+ is transitioning into a limited number of Star Trek currently scheduled for the year. Only one series, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3, and the first Star Trek streaming movie, Star Trek: Section 31, are known to premiere on Paramount+ in 2025.
While Strange New Worlds remains popular, and takes Star Trek: Discovery's place as Paramount+'s new flagship Star Trek series, the franchise has ended four of the five shows that sparked a new Star Trek renaissance from 2017-2024. Star Trek: Picard ended its 3-season run in 2023, and both Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Lower Decks wrapped their respective 5-season cycles on Paramount+ in 2024. In 2023, Paramount+ also abruptly canceled Star Trek: Prodigy, which was then ported over to Netflix after a passionate fan campaign.

Warning: contains spoilers for Star Trek: Defiant #21!
Spock knew his time in the Star Trek universe was coming to a close, and one heartbreaking moment proves he predicted it. After a distinguished career in Starfleet and as an ambassador, Spock found himself hurled into an alternate universe, where his story eventually came to an end. In Star Trek: Defiant #21, Spock is seemingly aware of how he will die, making a prediction that will sadly come true.
Star Trek: Defiant #21 is written by Christopher Cantwell and drawn by Angel Unzueta. Spock has just helped Worf and the crew of the Defiant turn back a Romulan invasion of an agrarian world. As the dust settles, Spock reflects on the incident, and his life as a whole. Spock muses that we “burn on,” in a constant state of flux, even if we perceive it as static. Spock’s philosophical train ultimately arrives at...

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is easily one of the most fun shows in recent years, and fortunately, it will be back for a third season. After a season that included a crossover with the animated Lower Decks and a musical episode, the Paramount+ series left off on quite the cliffhanger. The good news is the streaming service had previously announced it would be back for a third season. But when will that third season premiere? Below, we’re keeping track of everything we know so far about it, from that date to the cast and more. When does Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 premiere? So far, all we know is it will premiere in 2025. Where did Strange New Worlds Season 2 leave off? In August 2023, Pike (Anson Mount) and the Enterprise crew helped Batel’s (Melanie Scrofano) crew — which included Chapel (Jess Bush), on her way ...

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is often seen as the new flagship entity within the larger Star Trek franchise. It's the show that will set the pace for what's to come. It is the template, the blueprint, and the proof of concept for how Star Trek could and should work in the new era.
It's done a great job of reaching past the established fanbase and appealing to new fans, while also respecting the desires of those who have been here for years. The reason for that is pretty simple, they've found a good balance of the old and the new within one show.
On the one hand, characters like LA'an Noonien Singh, Erica Ortegas, Hemmerr, and Pelia have added a new flavor to classic Star Trek that has really made fans happy. Yet, the show also balances the new with the old, bringing in characters from the original pilot and series,...

The premiere of Section 31, Paramount +'s first Star Trek streaming movie, is only a few weeks away, and many fans still haven't decided whether they will tune in. The trailers and first looks have been much different than anything we've ever seen before so, naturally, we're uncertain as to whether it's something we're going to like. As it turns out, one of the actors in the movie, Robert Kazinsky, who plays Zeph, told SFX Magazine [via Gamesradar] that he was "I'm terrified of how it's going to be received, because it's not the Trek people want."
As an actor that has to be a scary proposition, especially considering there's a lot riding on this movie. Many even think that Star Trek: Legacy, the series that most every fan wants, is riding on whether or not Section 31 does well. Certainly, future movies could be at risk if Section 31 doesn't fare well with viewers.

Star Trek: Section 31 certainly looks like a departure for the long-running franchise, and one star is “terrified” of how the fans will react.
Robert Kazinsky, who plays Zeph in the streaming movie, expressed his concerns while speaking with SFX Magazine. “I’m terrified of how it’s going to be received, because it’s not the Trek people want,” he said. “The Trek that people want, the Trek that we all want, is just 1,000 more episodes of [The Next Generation]. Kazinsky continued, “So this is going to come along and it’s not going to feel like any Trek that they’ve ever seen. My fear was that it might not feel like Trek at all. So for you to tell me that it still...

Most Star Trek fans adore Star Trek: The Original Series, and we're happy to spend time in that time period as well as the 24th and 25th centuries. We all have fond memories of great Star Trek episodes from the foundational shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek; Deep Space Nine. The Star Trek: Enterprise took us back to the 22nd century before Star Trek: Discovery returned to the 23rd century before jumping ahead to the 32nd century. Both Lower Decks and Prodigy are in the 24th century while Star Trek: Picard dipped a toe into the 25th century while Star Trek: Strange New Worlds redirected us to the 23rd century. And now, Starfleet Academy is on the way, and it's set in the 32nd century. So what is going on with the other 600 years that have yet to be explored by Star Trek?...
