The producers of a new movie probably thought they couldn't go wrong casting Corbin Bleu fresh off his stint on High School Musical. But they didn't factor in how horrible their movie would actually turn out to be. Corbin Bleu starred in the 2009 movie Free Style (which I'm sure none of you have seen). It turns out, we aren't the only ones who didn't see it. The movie only grossed $463 on its opening weekend.

Bleu Sued Over Box Office Flop
Actor Corbin Bleu has been hit with a lawsuit after allegedly failing to fully promote his flop 2009 movie Free Style.
The High School Musical star played the lead in the coming-of-age film, which raked in just $1.3 million (£825,000) worldwide despite its $10 million (£6.25 million) budget.
Chiefs at two of the movie's financiers, Third Eye Capital and Strative Capital, have now filed suit against Bleu, as well as distributors Samuel Goldwyn Films, alleging the movie was not promoted as promised.
In the papers, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday and obtained by TMZ.com, they claim the 22 year old "refused and failed to perform those services".
The financiers reportedly put up more than $8.5 million (£5.3 million) for the film and are seeking $12 million (£7.5 million) in damages.

If you are talented and good looking like Corbin Bleu, you take on other film roles that showcase your abilities. Free Style is sure to be a favorite of Bleu.s fans as he portrays a character reaching for his dreams and finding romance along the way. Corbin Bleu is making a transition from screen to stage with him being set to make his Broadway debut in 2010. Having lost his Issac part in "The Beautiful Life: Tbl" when The CW canned the show, the Chad Danforth of the "High School Musical" series was recently revealed to have been tapped to star in the Tony-winning "In the Heights".
The 20-year-old actor will be seen stepping into the lead role of Usnavi, a young bodega owner in Washington Heights. His stint will last for 13 weeks from January 25, 2010 to April 25, 2010. Nailing the part in the theatrical production means he is the first of the "HSM" alum who is making his break on Broadway.

The Twitter-Wood feed assembled after the jump is the fine work of Mr. Brian Warmoth, but he seems to have disappeared before finishing the evening's intro bump. So you're stuck with me, @geminibros, your friendly neighborhood MTV Movies Blog editor.
I may not have Brian's panache, but I can still fill you in on what's shaking in the Twitter-Wood today. Rob Zombie just wrapped up the audio commentary for the director's cut of "Halloween II," "Harry Potter" star Tom Felton decided on his Halloween costume -- I wholeheartedly approve -- and "Shaun of the Dead" writer/director Edgar Wright saw the Coen brothers' new one, "A Serious Man." I wholeheartedly approve of that as well. Meanwhile, Brian Lynch has the real scoop on the next "Spider-Man" villain and Sarah Silverman shares a downright baffling twitpic. There are many films that all of us see throughout our lives, but only a few leave an imprint. “Free Style” leaves that imprint on me, but a bad one that could be used as an example of what not to do when making a movie. The film tries to cloak itself on the surface as a motorcross sports film while underneath holding layers of other problems including racial prejudice. Everything about this movie is completely executed wrong. From the editing, directing, acting and the script, you wonder who even let this get the greenlight.

A hardworking actor dedicated not only to his hordes of screaming fans but also to the quality of his work. In his new movie Free Style, Corbin throws himself into the role of Cale Bryant, a young man struggling to find his way in the world. The film is honest, not glamorized, and gets right down to the issues that many face. Cale returns to a broken home and where he quickly needs to step into the father role while trying to pursue his passion for motorcross. Through a series of incidents, Cale learns the value of family and the significance of hard work in this adventurous, fast-paced, exiting film. Like his character Cale, Corbin understands and values hard work. This project is very close to the High School Musical actor who along with his father and production company got the film up and running. When the star wasn't learning...

The opening sequence of Free Style promises some hot—albeit indifferently filmed—motocross action, as riders kick up mud with their treads and fly over hills in obligatory slo-mo glory. And at the center is Corbin Bleu, the dreamy Sideshow Bob of High School Musical fame, playing an underclass, mixed-race, small-town scrapper who dreams of racing his way onto the professional circuit. Then he loses his sponsorship for nobly abandoning a race to tend to an injured competitor. Then he loses his bike and lacks the means to get a new one. Then the movie wait about 70 or 80 ...

He's grown up from High School Musical, and just as The Beautiful Life had his career steady, the show was canceled. Fortunately for Corbin Bleu, there's another role he's fit for. The 20-year-old actor will be portraying the lead role of Cale Bryant in the 2009 film Free Style, which doesn't refer to dancing at all. It's actually a motocross movie.

While I'm sure no film could compete with the drama that would plague the Earth if Fox succeeds in delaying Watchmen, there are still a horde of serious, troubling, tear-wrenching, and romantic dramas coming our way in 2009. The ante was increased tenfold in 2008 with films like the gut-wrenching Dear Zachary, but what of our new year?
2009 boasts:
January:
Not Easily Broken -- Struggling romance, re-evaluation, life-changing accidents -- the usual romantic and dramatic fare.
Yonkers Joe -- This is what happens when I Am Sam meets The Sopranos.
Notorious -- A "notorious" one of the B.I.G. variety.
Killshot -- A husband and wife (Thomas Jane and Diane Lane) get entangled with a con artist (Joseph Gordon Levitt) and over-the-hill hitman (Mickey Rourke).
February:

Miller revs up for motocross
Penelope Ann Miller has joined High School Musical star Corbin Bleu in Rigel Entertainment's motocross action-drama movie Free Style.
Previously titled Metal Birding, the film, which began lensing in November in Vancouver, also has a new director in William Dear, who replaced Jeff Woolnough (Taken, Battlestar Galactica). No reason was cited by Rigel for the change.
Additionally, real-life motocross star Grant Langston and Sandra Echeverria have joined the cast, which includes Matt Bellefleur and Madison Pettis.
The coming-of-age story centers on a young motocross racer (Bleu) who aspires to win the Amateur National Championships while struggling to support his family.
Miller will play Jeannette, a single working mom to one of the teenage racers who strives to provide for her family while studying full-time to become a nurse.
Langston guest stars as the racing champion that Bleu's character and his rival (Bellefleur) looks up to. Echeverria will play Bleu's girlfriend.
Rigel is producing in association with Up North Entertainment. Executive producing is Rigel's John F.S. Laing and David Doerksen, Jim O'Grady of Waterfront Pictures and Michael Emanuel of Canal Street Films.
