The movie from the beginning to the end was such a treat to watch. From the get go, the movie draws you in such a way that the Malayalam film industry hasn't seen before. Some audiences have had trouble with the non linear storyline and the time jumps but personally I feel like it keeps the viewers engaged and the fun of it is putting it together. Like the name suggests Thallumala is indeed a 'chain of brawls' and each brawl stayed unique and charismatic that it felt so fresh to just see and experience it. Honestly, the theatre fight scene is was one of the most chaotic but also well choreographed fight over seen. What stays on par with the brilliant action choreography is the immaculate cinematography to make the movie one of the best visual treats among recent malayalam movies. The songs and the outfits and the characters and the comedy all compliment the movie to make it so unique and makes it stand out, in a good way, from all the movies in the industry at the moment.
In a time where all we get are psychological thrillers and slow burn movies, this is a movie which has its own character and identity and doesn't shy away to own up to it in any ways. It lived up to all the expectations and hype I had kept for it and it's uniqueness and offbeat approach makes it a movie worth watching. Definitely a trendsetter for a while to come.

Chain of Fights . Kindly don't expect any story from this movie , just watch it for it crazy action sequence , unique making style , stunning visuals and non linear screenplay . Assume that there wasn't any story , if you try to recollect it whole story doesn't makes sense at all , ( so just skip to the good part ) but they did decent job in non linear screenplay . Khalid Rahman's making was topnotch , it felt like watching an action Japanese anime in live-action . First half was average , movie picked up right from the theater fight sequence . Second half was good , clash between Tovino gang and Shine Tom Chacko gang literally made it intresting . Tovino Thomas , Shine Tom Chacko , Kalyani and other supporting casts performance were good . Editing was great support to this movie . Stunning Visuals !! Cinematography , colors and lightings were great . Songs were average , but BGMs were mind blowing . Overall good entertaining action movie , it just gave a different experience . Give a try I hope you like it .

ONE OF ITS KIND IN
MOLLYWOOD. EVEN THOUGH
IT'S NOT EVERYONE'S CUP
OF TEA, THOSE WHO ARE
LOOKING FOR SOMETHING
UNIQUE AND FRESH DO
GIVE THIS A SHOT. THE
MOVIE IS FILLED WITH A
TON OF ACTION SEQUENCES
EVERY 10-15 MINUTES, THE
BGM AND
CINEMATOGRAPHY STAND
OUT. STORY WISE THE FILM
GOT NOTHING MUCH TO
OFFER BUT DOESN'T FAIL
TO ENTERTAIN WITH LOTS
OF INTERESTING ASPECTS GOING ON.

As the title suggests, Khalid Rahman's foray into the action genre is based around a string of fights that happen for reasons you wouldn't want to go deep into. Written by Ashraf Hamza and Muhsin Parari, the film is tailor-made for the Instagram/YouTube generation, with a non-linear narrative structure. Oft-times, you watch a slickly shot set-piece first and then learn the story behind it. The entire film and its characters ooze swagger, set against vibrant frames (by Jimshi Khalid), and mind-blowing transitions. Yes, the editing work (by Nishadh Yusuf) is the soul of this particular movie.
The entire ensemble deliver solid performances too, with Tovino Thomas, Lukman Avaran, Swathi Das Prabhu, and Shine Tom Chacko standing out. The first half, with its knotty plot connections, peppy songs (barring a 'rap' which felt completely out-of-place), and fight sequences popping by the minute, is enjoyable but we initially sense a lack of coherence. Things get mighty better in the latter half however, and when the knots slowly begin to untangle, the fights offer a greater adrenaline rush. And this is a film where the stunts need to be talked about in detail. The scale of each set-piece varies - the one taking place inside a car and an all-out brawl at a cinema hall are truly outstanding.
Like one long darned Instagram reel, you'll remember the film for all its punches and kicks, pulsating background score, swanky costumes and trendy haircuts, and not for its plot (if there ever was one). The film definitely needed more humor though; I'm sure North Keralites will lap it up just the way it is (owing to regional context and dialect) and everyone else will relish the factors mentioned above. Does the film glorify coming to blows at the slightest discomfort? Yes, but like Ajagajantharam, think of this film playing out in a little universe of its own, distinct from the real world, and you'll want to appreciate the work that has gone into creating and detailing it. The romance in the film rides on a very thin (and questionable) line, though Kalyani Priyadarshan does light up the screen every time.

Superb in the sense of entertainment. The movie does the job in entertaining you with colourful scenes. Awesome fight which covers most of the screen time, great cinematography. Disappointed with the songs though. That's all, don't expect more😄

I really liked this movie in short what I can say about thallumaala is.
One can go to theatres and celebrate this movie along with the Audience, and it's true content wise this movie nothing in it but that doesn't even matter this movie is a total entertainer and that what we need
ADI ADI PINEEM NALLA KINNAM ADI .................
and a great applause to the technical side of the team each and every aspect were just boom.
And the negative that if felt over this movie was the love track of Wazim and fathima didn't work for me.

An over glorified teens movie. The film is particularly targeting the under 25 age group obviously cause of the adrenaline rush you get at that age apart from that this one lacks a captivating story and story telling is pretty much like an excited teen on sugar rush or something. The songs seem to be well mediocre and trash af. Good casting but didn't pay off on screen as everyone has nothing entertaining to enact. Fans who keep saying this has got awesome fight sequences and the movie has pays respect to its name are simpletons who has got no exposure on world cinema. I would only recommend this film to a teenager.

Hardly a second passed disengaged. Stylish costumes, stylish photography, fun graphics. Whole lot of fun fight sequences.
While the movie is unabashedly nonsensical in it's story lines, there is a tightness to the writing that holds the movie together.
Tovino has done great work and has carried the various get ups and styles very well. All the other character actors have also done very good work.
Background scores complement the humor very well.
The director has good control over the pace, rhythm and vibe of the movie.
Fun songs. Loads of energy, loads of fun. A good weekend break.

Watched Thallumala in DCC Dubai .
Status 100% A festive vibe movie entertainer . Tovino and shine Tom Lukman did very well, stunts . The only flaw I felt was the nonlinear story telling . Which really affected my understanding.. and lack of a proper story .. Love to see my hometown Thalassery shot in a colorful way . Color grading , costume were good .but still couldn't find out how the movie made of this budget.

Barely a story, told in 10 Chapters that too in non-linear narrative. The making shows superior craft and two action scenes stand out. Sadly, that is all there is to this film to take home with respect to the story or the characters. You laugh at them, laugh with them while they punch & kick their way to the climax. It is indeed a ballad of brawls and there are several shots that stand out in terms of technical aspect. Even when those shots push you dig a deeper meaning, it is of no use in this particular film.
The tone is vibrant, cartoonish as well and there were moments which were truly fun to watch. But the first half tested my patience as it hardly moved the story forward, till that theater fight. It was the second half where the film had some brownie points beyond the action scenes where one can relate to the hero and his gang's ego being bruised big time. Tovino Thomas and Shine Tom Chacko deliver big time whereas Kalyani Priyadarshan has nothing much to do as she remains a mere spectator to the chaos.
For all the talk on how beef is the only real meat and a superior one compared to other meats, one cannot help but wish the script had some meat to it. Given the brilliant filmmaking & non-linear narrative trick, it could have been a far better entertainer.

Loved the whole aspect of this movie. Very different and entertaining also.. Not everyone's cup of tea though..
Tovino was on fire! Charming to the max, he exuded so much energy. He even took the effort to train hard to deliver very good dance performances. Weight reduction, body training are all evident when you see a youthful Wazim and then later on a mature one. He exceled in his performance as well as in action and dance.
This is another winner for Shine Tom Chacko as Reji (S. I of Police). With a wry smile yet menacing, Shine has to just show himself on screen and you are hooked, convinced and in for a ride with his character. This man has immense screen presence. Always a pleasure to see him perform. A natural!
Kalyani Priyadarshan as Fathima Beevi/Beepathu was pleasant and charming. Though there wasn't much meat in her character arc, she did her part well and I felt both Tovi and Kalyani looked good together.

Lukman Avaran was superb as Jamshi. I have never seen him in such an avatar. He really rocked in the action scenes as well. A terrific actor.
I really enjoyed Swathi Das Prabhu as Sathaar. I'm not sure if I have seen him before. As a sort of a wingman to Wazim, he was very entertaining to watch. He is a freind who is always by Wazim's side. We all have that friend.
Chemban Vinod was in a sort of cameo as Omega Babu. Johny Antony was excellent as Wazim's father. He brought the much needed grounded feel amidst the mayhem. Binu Pappu did his part well. Interesting to know that he was also the Chief Associate Director of the movie.
Director Khalid Rahman's range is incredible. From his debut feel good Romantic comedy movie "Anuraga Karikkin Vellam" to a politically charged black comedy "Unda" to a Black comedy psychological thriller "Love" to Musical Action Comedy "Thallumaala". Each movie is vastly different!
From beginning to end, this was a treat to watch. I have never watched such a movie from the Malayalam film industry, except Maybe LJP's 2015 movie "Double Barrel", which was another stylish over the top movie full of mayhem and confusion! It was a gangster parody movie.
Thallumaala is an offbeat, whacky, zany, chaotic, eccentric and extremely colourful movie! A wafer thin story line (no complaints as I don't always expect epic & intense stories) about Vloggers, Friendship, Romance, songs and very well choreographed fights. Look out for the "Movie Theatre Fight" (the best), "Wedding Fight" and the very creative and hilarious "Car Fight"! There are some sequences shot in Dubai and they look fab! And the use and reference to social media in this movie is spot on, which itself will be an attraction to today's youth and regular social media users. Costuming also needs a loud shout-out. Costume Design was by Mashar Hamsa. The Costume department must have been on a roll while deciding the costumes for this movie. Stylish is underrated here. Colours splashed everywhere, everyone looked uber cool and in sync with the environment that the movie created.
. If u are looking for something unique and different do give a shot..

Never seen before colorful, energetic , high impact movie making.
Tovino excels in the role as manavalan vazim. Don't know if there is anyone else in Malayalam to do this role convincingly.
Hard to track timelines of some of the events , there is no real story , start or climax . But all that do not matter to watch this movie. Great BGM. Must watch in theater.

Different kind of narration with a usual Malayalam story. Editing was at its peak couldn't even believe the editing and cinematography. Loosely built first half but wrapped and tied audience in second half.

From the storyline, to the sound designing, to the editing, to the cinematography - every making sense of this movie is absolutely amazing. A must-watch, extra points if you're a tovino fan. This movie does not dissapoint, Shine and Chemban also shine bright. Lukman made the most significant impact for me however. Good movie, overall. 10/10. Theatre experience is vere level!!!

Review : 7/10
Positives :
1. The fights and the staging of the fights were superb. Theater fight , wedding fight and car fight were staged impeccably well and the stunts were not over the top which was excellent.
2. The cuts and transitions used in the movie are on par to that of a Hollywood movie. I don't know if that was there in the script or it was improvised in the edit table but kudos 3. The camera movement was also good; kudos to the cinematographer. Personally liked the way the camera turns when someone wakes up or does a turn 4. Acting from the cast was ok.
Negatives :
1. Even though most of the scenes have a group of friends , I felt the chemistry was missing. The chemistry between Tovino and Shine Tom felt far better than Tovino's friends group or with Kalyani 2. Background score was better , Songs were good but the placement of songs was bad. Most of them did not land well.
3. The non linear pattern felt as both positive and a negative. The transitions were good but it was not effective. All the transitions leads to a fight again.
4. Writing was good but could've been better
Overall Thallumaala is Mollywood's ode to Scott Pilgrim vs the World that works in terms of technical aspects but misses a better screenplay. Would be liked by people less than 30 years of age.

** Thalumala ( Chain of Fights ) Movie Review**
Directed by Khalid Rahman starring Tovino Thomas, Shine Tom Chacko , Kalyani Priyadarshan in lead role....
One Word : Full on Fights....
A below average story but executed very well...
Khalid Rahman brilliance in film making made the movie watchable...
At every 15 - 20 min we could expect a fight & hence the movie title suits very well....
Tovino Thomas , Kalyani Priyadarshan, Shine Tom Chacko excelled in their performance but more of it its only the flights, the entertaining ingredients which scored well...
Khalid Rahman from Anurag Karkin Vellam, Unda when he is on Thallumala, a different film making approach being adopted 👍👍👍
Jimshu Khaild cinematography was excellent 👍👍👍
Music was poor 👎👎👎
BGM was good 👍👍👍
Last 15 minutes climax waa awesome 👍👍👍
Overall a entertaining one time watchable keeping the logics aside...

In my opinion the making was good, acting is average. Some songs were pretty cringy and couldn't wait for the interval. Not much of a story. Some fight scenes were pretty outstanding. That's all. The movie is targeted towards young audiences mostly.

No story , No screenplay - Just random fight scenes. The performance of whole cast was below par ( except Shine Tom who was okayish ).
Overall disappointed !

Salute to the people who worked behind the camera. Outstanding performance by the entire cast. Thallumaala breaks every bones and succeeds. Colour grading and pov angle makes it delight to watch.

The best part of Thallumala is that it is an uninhibited celebration of hyper masculinity. None of that pensive fake reflective sermons about toxic masculinity or attempt to be "darkly comic" in this film. It is a straightforward action film. Director Khalid Rehman, like most clever directors realized the audiences love to see men beating the hell out of each other and gives us what we want :)
Tovino is in the best shape of his life here. His body language and performances in the fight and dance scenes were on another level. I cannot think of another Malayalam actor like him with the wiry muscular look. I suspect he will become a pan Indian superstar after this film. Lukman Avaran has taken a giant leap with this film. I always suspected his histrionic ability but he delivers with this one and holds his own despite Tovino having the best fight scenes. Shine Tom Chacko with his wolf-like visage reminded me of Lee Van Cliff and he is a worthy adversary to Manavalan Waseem.
A weak link in the film could be Kalyani Priyadarshan. Beepathu's role was that of a feisty blogger, and while Kalayani looked cute, her performance was a bit low energy. The film needed a hotter sexier heroine to match Tovino/Manavalan Waseem's testosterone.
The film's editing reminded me of Trainspotting. Crisp, short scenes with the occasional surreal frame thrown in for better effect. Vishnu Vijay's score while not brilliant, is catchy enough.
I am sure there will be a sequel with Manavalan Waseem and Reji's gang taking on Omega Babu. I had a great time watching the movie and writing this review.

Whole movie = Adi adi and more adi! The threadbare storyline is almost impossible to follow with constant jumps between timelines and subplots. Almost zero character development or emotional depth to this movie. If you just want to turn off your brain and just see fight after fight after fight, then go for it! Otherwise if you are looking for even some bare minimum substance and depth, I strongly suggest you skip this one! They can have my money, but I wish I could get my 2 hours and 20 minutes back.
