Another Carl Hiaasen novel is being developed as a TV series with Bill Lawrence onboard.

Variety has learned exclusively that a series version of Hiaasen’s novel “Skinny Dip” is currently in development at Max with Adam Horowitz & Edward Kitsis set to write and Lawrence attached as an executive producer.

The logline for the one-hour dramedy series describes it as “a screwball-romantic-comedy-triangle about murder, revenge, and greed in the Everglades.”

Lawrence, a longtime fan of Hiaasen, is currently the creator and showrunner on the series adaptation of “Bad Monkey” at Apple TV+. That show debuted at Apple in August 2024 and was renewed for a second season in December.

Horowitz and Kitsis will write and executive produce “Skinny Dip.” Lawrence, Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer will executive produce via Doozer. Warner Bros. Television, where Doozer is under an overall deal, is the studio.

An untitled UFO conspiracy thriller from Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski has ignited an out-of-this-world bidding war, THR reports.

Written by Zach Baylin, the package also includes legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

Little is known about the plot, but it’s described as “All the President’s Men with UFOs.” No stars are attached and the budget range is unclear, but it is seeking a greenlight.

Part of the appeal is the veneer of authenticity to the pitch. Former United States Air Force officer David Grusch, who made headlines in 2023 when he testified before Congress that the government has been studying “non-human”spacecrafts and pilots, is said to be consulting on the project.

Directed by Joachim Rnning, the upcoming third installment in the Tron franchise takes place after Tron: Legacy (2010), which was itself a sequel to the 1982 original. Tron: Ares' story features Ares (Leto), a program, leaving the Grid and embarking on a dangerous mission in the real world, with Jeff Bridges reprising his role as Kevin Flynn.

Empire now releases a new image from Tron: Ares, showing Leto's Ares standing in front of an evolved take on the lightcycle. The 2022 action drama sequel Top Gun: Maverick is one of the highest-grossing and most universally-acclaimed action movies of all time, and it could have looked very different if the original plan for the movie's direction had actually come to pass. After many years in development, the director's chair for Maverick was eventually filled by Joseph Kosinski, who previously was most widely recognized for his work with CGI-heavy movies like Tron: Legacy, Oblivion, and Only the Brave. Kosinski obviously did an incredible job blending CGI and real-world stunt direction, resulting in the outstanding action sequences of Maverick.

While Kosinski was chosen to direct in 2017, five years before the film's release, a Top Gun sequel was in development as far back as 2010. Prior to Kosinski's selection, however, the movie was originally offered to producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott, the duo responsible for the oft-quoted Top Gun. Scott unfortunately died in 2012, which forced Bruckheimer and co.

The upcoming Zoe Saldaña-starring and Martin Scorsese-exec produced thriller “The Absence of Eden” has been snapped up by Signature Entertainment in a multi-territory deal.

Signature bought U.K. and Irish, Australian and New Zealand and African rights to the feature, being sold by The Exchange.

“The Absence of Eden” — also starring Garrett Hedlund (“Tron,” “Mudbound”) and Adria Arjona (“Hitman,” “Father of the Bride”) —.is directed by first-time feature director Marco Perego from a script he co-wrote with Rick Rapoza (“Cactuses”). After a successful theatrical run, ultimately grossing $371 million worldwide, Twisters will finally make its streaming debut. The film is slated to be released on Peacock this November. The exact release date is Friday, Nov. 15, 2024.
