The anime industry is no stranger to unexpected crossovers and creative reinterpretations. But among them, the adult-themed animations; often crafted by independent artists, have grown into a thriving niche, sparking both curiosity and controversy. While such parodies are commonplace, a recent development involving Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has made the anime community speechless. Gone are the days when R18 parodies revolved around low-budget!

MapleStar, a prominent creator of R18 anime, recently unveiled an ambitious parody titled Fern and Stark Need to Warm Up. While the animation’s high quality and widespread attention are noteworthy, what truly set it apart is the involvement of Yuuta Suzuhana; a professional animator who worked on the original Frieren anime.

The creator of the series revealed a few months ago that the story is reaching its conclusion and will soon end. While he did not provide a specific timeline, it is safe to assume that the Vinland Saga might come to an end in a few chapters. It certainly is sad news for fans, but the part that is even sadder is that Vinland Saga might not get a happy ending.

If you think classics like One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach are all the anime genre has to offer, then simply think again! While these Shonen epics do hold their ground for plenty of solid reasons, it’s always the Seinen genre that finally takes the crown.
The more grounded storytelling approach in the Seinen genre easily leaves Shonen in the dust, offering complex characters, with ambiguous themes, and a depth that’s hard to find anywhere else.

What's the best superhero TV show? Satirical gorefest "The Boys" has been a smash hit, and in 2024, Marvel Studios released one of its best projects ever with "X-Men '97." But for a lot of other geeks, the answer to this question is still one of the classics.
For as much stock as you can put in IMDb, the site's list of highest user-rated TV shows puts "Batman: The Animated Series" in 24th place. With a rating of 9/10, it's the highest ranking superhero program on the list. "Batman" is also the sixth-highest ranking animated series after "Avatar: The Last Airbender" (which also featured Mark Hamill voicing a super-villain), "Bluey," "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood," "Rick and Morty," and "Attack on Titan."

There’s one thing that’s common between Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen — both series are brilliantly animated by the same studio, Mappa. As one of the leading giants in the animation industry, the studio is top-tier in its game, being a steady competitor to the likes of Ufotable and Toei Animation.
And while Akutami’s series was lauded, Fujimoto’s anime was heavily criticized for various reasons. Though tides are turning in the latter’s favor, especially with the studio’s latest trailer.

Vagabond is the creation of the genius mind that is Takehiko Inoue, of Slam Dunk fame. The manga has depth and an inspired touch that makes it unique compared to the average Edo-period style samurai manga.

Anime fans are known to compare their favorite anime series and their characters to find out the superior among them. A similar competition was recently held on Instagram where male characters from many prominent anime series were nominated to figure out who was the most handsome anime face of 2024. The winner was selected by the fans’ vote, and the results were startling.

In a shocking turn of events, this competition was won by none other than Sasuke Uchiha from Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto. Sasuke is one of the most important characters in the series, and even though he was an anti-hero, he had a cult following that is ever-growing to this day. Not only that, some fans even consider that he would have been a better protagonist than Naruto.

The Straw Hat Pirates’ journey, which started almost 30 years ago, has ultimately reached its final phase. With Egghead marking the beginning of the final saga, it won’t be long before Luffy enters the last war against his enemies and not only liberates the One Piece world but also earns the title of Pirate King by finding the treasure.

However, in order to do that, the One Piece protagonist needs another power-up, as his current strength level will not be enough to face the upcoming dangers. This was quite evident when Luffy fought the Five Elders in the Egghead Island arc. Likely, Luffy’s next power-up will also come in the form of another Devil Fruit transformation, which will be deemed Gear 6.
Gear 6 will be the next step for Luffy, which will probably take his Nika transformation to the next level. But now the...

Makoto Yukimura’s Vinland Saga is one of the greatest modern manga series out there and its anime adaptation is no slouch either. Initially, it appears to be the Viking story of a young man who sets out for revenge. Over the course of Vinland Saga's story, it evolves into a weighty thesis on the nature of war, how violence can change us, and what it means to actually devote one's life to peace. Though Vinland Saga has become Yukimura’s most famous series, it’s not the first one in which he was able to filter themes through a genre story. Planetes , the anime adaptation of Yukimura’s manga, is also full of surprises for anyone who takes the time to watch it. Websites like the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) are innately fickle. IMDb scores of movies and TV shows rely on ratings from their user base, but not all opinions are created equal. Putting educated, thought-through ones being counted alongside simplistic and trolling ones elevates the legitimacy of the latter and degrades that of the former. To quote director Sidney Lumet — "You're not a critic just for your opinion. My elevator man has got an opinion."
Granted, there is something to be said for creating a gauge of broad public opinion — and IMDb's collection of the highest-rated TV episodes is largely aligned with it. Number one is "Ozymandias" from the final season of "Breaking Bad," which has maintained a perfect 10/10 score since it premiered in 2013. The runner-up is "Everyone's Waiting," the final episode of "Six Feet Under" — some (including /Film's Caroline Madden) maintain that it's the greatest series finale of all time.

Vinland Saga tells one of the most compelling stories ever known in the history of any entertainment medium, and not just anime. It has arguably recreated the Vikings theme far more comprehensively than any other Western adaptations ever could.
Thorkell the Tall from Vinland Saga | Credits: Wit Studio
The 1st season of its anime adaptation had some of the most insanely gruesome and gory action sequences, thanks to one particular character, which is surprisingly not Thorfinn in this case, it is that of Thorkell the Tall! Only if Yukimura-sensei, the author of Vinland Saga could make him follow Thors’ footsteps from the get-go, then the series would’ve turned out to be wildly different.

While a character in anime might be forced to sacrifice themself, usually to save someone or a group of people, it doesn't make it any easier. Sacrifices in anime are almost always heart-breaking, as they involve a noble character laying down their life for the greater good. Characters like Neji from Naruto and Vegeta from Dragon Ball also prove that, just because they started the series on the wrong foot with the protagonist, doesn't mean they can't come around and redeem themselves in the end.
Other characters, like Thors from Vinland Saga or Erwin Smith from Attack on Titan, were good people their entire lives and chose to sacrifice themselves so that the next generation might live on. No matter what a character's reason for making the ultimate sacrifice,...

Almost a decade back, Hajime Isayama made his breakthrough as a mangaka with his series Attack on Titan. The manga remains relevant because of its poignant portrayal of war and strife. But most importantly, it serves as a purpose to highlight the dystopian society.
It is anything but a bog-standard shōnen manga, especially in its portrayal of human bonds. The dystopian series enmeshes themes of survival with love and friendship. In a war-torn society, there is no respite, and this applies especially to Mikasa.

Thorfinn is a rare character that puts his weapons down in Vinland Saga. In season one, he's a vicious, brutal teen with nothing more than revenge on his mind. As the series progresses, so does Thorfinn's character, and he becomes a wise, patient young man who decides that his days of violence are behind him. He's a soft-spoken character who doesn't talk too often, making every quote memorable. His quotes are a great way to see his character change.
In the first season, Thorfinn only talks about revenge. He's constantly reminding Askeladd that he's only with his band so that he can get revenge one day. In the second season, however, Thorfinn finds hope once again. He decides that war only leads to more war, and that if he really wants peace, he'll need to be a proponent of it himself.
