Aside from some leaked promo art, Tim Blake Nelson's returning Samuel Sterns, aka the Leader, has been kept mostly under wraps in the marketing for Captain America: Brave New World.
This latest TV spot for the movie also keeps the character in the shadows, but because he steps ever so slightly closer to the light, adjusting the brightness and contrast levels reveals our first official glimpse of the super-smart villain.
As you'll see from the image below, Sterns really doesn't look very much like the promo art at all. Aside from being clean-shaven, his signature elongated cranium is much smaller, and it looks like his brain is partially exposed (the character has had a similar look in the comics).
Check out the teaser and screenshot below, and let us know what you think.

Liv Tyler went through some rough days filming Lord of the Rings, like, real “what have I gotten myself into?” moments. But fate had a funny way of making it up to her. Years later, in a $35.4M Ben Affleck flick, she finally got something she desperately wished for back in Middle-earth.

Marvel had a rough year in 2023. Many of its properties underperformed, and they lost their big villain due to Jonathan Majors being fired. Looking forward to their upcoming slate, comic fans have been excited about some of the studio’s projects over the next few years. Will these films help Marvel regain control? The upcoming Thunderbolts film has been one that fanboys have been hoping to see since the MCU started. With some recent news about the property coming up, it seems like the right time to break down what we know about the production.
Who Are The Thunderbolts?
The team first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1997 in an issue of The Incredible Hulk. They seemed to be a new group of superheroes that had arrived on the scene and gained acclaim very quickly. The reader was informed that the group was actually a group of supervillains led by Baron Zemo.

Marvel’s Thunderbolts feels like a moment of deja vu. It began with a post-credit scene in Iron Man when Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) arrived at the Stark Tower to have a chat with Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) about the Avengers Initiative; at least he didn’t have to chase him like Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) on the streets of New York. Now Contessa Valentina “Val” Allegra de Fontaine (let me catch my breath for a minute) is seemingly walking down the same path.
We (almost) knew why Nick Fury was so interested in bringing the world’s mightiest heroes together, but the initiative was a success, though we lost a couple of our Avengers by the end of the Infinity Saga. But Valentina? It’s still not clear to me what she is up to, but it looks like she will be the one pulling strings for the new team.

Betty Ross is one of the more forgotten characters of The Hulk’s mythos, whether it be the films or comics. She appeared last in the MCU back in 2008, when Edward Norton was the Incredible Hulk. Essayed by the likes of Jennifer Connely (in Ang Lee’s Hulk film) and Liv Tyler (in the MCU), Betty Ross has always served as the ‘beauty’ part of the Beauty and the Beast dynamic she has going on with Bruce Banner and the Hulk, much to Thaddeus’ charging. However, that dynamic was lost in the MCU, especially after the franchise started shipping Bruce with Natasha.

Edward Norton’s Bruce Banner needs to make a comeback in the MCU. Not only was the actor very well suited for the roles of Bruce Banner and the Hulk, but he had a lot of experience playing characters with dissociative identity disorder.

With Secret Wars fast approaching, there is a lot of anticipation of seeing Marvel Legacy characters in the MCU. This could extend to actors who have played past characters in the MCU, such as Edward Norton, who could come back in the MCU as perhaps not The Hulk, or Bruce, but as a third character, truly showing how fractured Bruce Banner’s mind is.

2008 was one of the best years and one of the worst years for Marvel Studios since the MCU kickstarted with Iron Man, but it was also the year The Incredible Hulk received worldwide criticism and disappointment.

As is often the case when a big superhero movie's release date draws near, international marketing is beginning to kick up a few gears, and this latest poster for Marvel Studios' Captain America: Brave New World assembles most of the film's main heroes and villains for the first time.
In addition to new looks at Cap, Falcon, Sidewinder, President Ross (and his Red Hulk alter ego looming in the background), this artwork gives us a first glimpse of Sabra in her superhero costume.
The decision to introduce this particular character was met with some backlash when actress Shira Hass' casting was first announced, and the controversy was reignited after the release of the first trailer last July.
In the comics, Sabra, aka Ruth Bat-Seraph, is a mutant with superhuman strength, speed, agility, reflexes, endurance, and stamina. She first appeared in the pages of The Incredible Hulk back in 1980 as a...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has hit some speed bumps recently. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels under-performed at the box office and some of the Disney+ shows were poorly received… but the universe rebounded with the success of Deadpool & Wolverine last year, and the next addition to the MCU, Captain America: Brave New World, is set to reach theatres on February 14th. With that date just a few weeks away, a first look featurette has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above. In this featurette, star Anthony Mackie says Captain America: Brave New World is an “old school Marvel” film.
Captain America: Brave New World went into production in March of 2023, with filming lasting through June. In December of ’23, another screenwriter was brought onto the project to write new material for reshoots, and those reshoots seemed to be quite substantial, lasting from May 2024 through November.

During an interview with Fandango, director Julius Onah revealed that, when he got to see Red Hulk on the screen for the first time, it was surreal, incredible, and exciting.

The Red Hulk will show off his many differences to Bruce Banner's Hulk in the MCU when he makes his official debut in Captain America: Brave New World. Bruce Banner's Hulk has been at the core of the MCU since his first appearance in 2008's The Incredible Hulk, but Marvel Studios has also recently introduced many other Hulk-like characters to the MCU. This pattern, that has seen the debut of She-Hulk, Abomination, Freak, Skaar and more, will continue in 2025's Captain America: Brave New World with the debut of the Red Hulk.
Harrison Ford will be taking over from the late William Hurt in Captain America: Brave New World to play Thaddeus Ross, the former General who will now be depicted as the new President of the United States. By returning to the MCU in 2026's upcoming Vision series, one unexpected Iron Man actor will break a huge Marvel Studios record which is about to be set by two returning characters in 2025. As the second spinoff from 2021's WandaVision series, there is a lot of anticipation for the Vision series, which will catch up with Paul Bettany's White Vision following his reawakening by Sword and battle in Westview. Excitement has grown after the hiring of Star Trek: Picard's Terry Matalas as showrunner and confirmation that several MCU actors will be reprising their roles.
While the Vision series will put the titular synthezoid front-and-center, James Spader was also confirmed to be returning as Ultron in August 2024. Warning: Contains Spoilers for The Incredible Hulk #21! The Hulk is one of the deadliest heroes in the Marvel Universe, as his god-tier strength makes him powerful enough to challenge practically anyone - including the virtually-unkillable Wolverine. That has come in handy in his most recent comic series, since the Hulk is being hunted by primordial monsters the likes of which are more gruesome and horrifying than he’s ever faced before. However, the Hulk is more than prepared for these eldritch beasts, and even uses Wolverine’s goriest move of all time to defeat one.
In a preview for The Incredible Hulk #21 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Danny Earls, the Hulk is fighting a giant wolf-like monster called Vârcolac. This beast was awakened by the Eldest (the leader of all Earth’s monsters under the Mother of Horrors) to not only kill Hulk, but also take back the godskin of...

2025 has already happened in the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and included some of the most game-changing events in the franchise's history. While the early projects of the MCU were set primarily in the years in which they were released, this went through some significant changes following Avengers: Endgame's five-year time jump. 2019's Endgame was set primarily in 2023, and the MCU timeline is still running ahead, meaning while 2025 has only just started for us, it's already happened in the MCU.

Red Hulk’s thrilling MCU debut in Captain America: Brave New World has made my crazy Hulk dream even more possible. Throughout the MCU timeline, the Hulk has been both a formidable force and a character somewhat relegated to the sidelines. However, the introduction of the Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World hints at a future where the Hulk and his various incarnations could take center stage once more.
Despite Bruce Banner’s green alter ego being one of Marvel’s most iconic figures, issues surrounding film rights and character development have kept the Hulk from smashing his way to solo movie success since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Louis Leterrier has directed the action films The Transporter, Transporter 2, Unleashed, and Fast X, the action comedies The Brothers Grimsby and The Takedown, the mystery thriller Now You See Me, the fantasy adventure Clash of the Titans, and the comic book adaptation The Incredible Hulk (not to mention the TV shows The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and Lupin), and over the decades his films have racked up $2 billion at the box office. Last May, we learned that he’ll be directing and producing the film 11817, working from a screenplay by Matthew Robinson (The Invention of Lying), which will see him venturing into the sci-fi horror realm. That same month, it was announced that Kingsley Ben-Adir (Bob Marley: One Love) and Greta Lee (Past Lives) would be starring in the film… but now it looks like Ben-Adir has had to drop out, with Wagner Moura (Civil War) stepping in as his replacement.

We know that the story still involves the Serpent Society; in fact, the reshoots added Giancarlo Esposito into the mix as Sidewinder, the leader of the Serpent Society.

Daredevil: Born Again, a part of phase five of the MCU, premieres Tuesday, March 4, 2025 on Disney+. The season will be a total of nine episodes. Phase 1's The Incredible Hulk dropped a nod to a classic Hulk character that may finally get to make his first on-screen MCU appearance more than seventeen years later. Hulk hasn't had a movie of his own since Louis Leterrier's 2008 The Incredible Hulk. Nevertheless, the McU's Hulk has completed a full arc across several appearances as a supporting character. Hulk's status as a founding member of the Avengers, his time as an intergalactic gladiator, his role in saving the universe, and the reconciliation of his two personas have already been explored throughout the years.
One drawback of Hulk's lack of solo movies is that his friends and enemies haven't had the chance to appear in the MCU as often as other Marvel characters. For example, Doc Samson only had a small role in The Incredible Hulk, Absorbing Man and Glenn Talbot appeared in Agents of Shield outside the McU's main timeline,...

Hulk is one of the most complex heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), with some incredible moments featuring the angry green giant throughout his various appearances. Long before the MCU began, the Hulk became a pop culture phenomon. Like other popular heroes, including Spider-Man, Superman and Batman, Hulk was recognizable for fans of comics, and general pop culture. In part, this was due to the character starring in a TV show from 1977 that ran for five seasons.
Even after the series concluded, The Incredible Hulk continued to appear in reruns, and the character's popularity was cemented in peoples' minds. However, since then, the Hulk has evolved beyond being a man who is painted green, or an animated cartoon character. Today, the Hulk is recognizable in live-action films as a powerful giant who is capable of smashing entire armies and scaling the tallest skyscrapers in New York City.

Theatre listings have revealed that Captain America: Brave New World has a running time of 118 minutes, so it comes in at 6 minutes shorter than Captain America: The First Avenger (124 minutes), 18 minutes shorter than Captain America: The Winter Soldier (136 minutes), and 30 minutes shorter than Captain America: Civil War (148 minutes). While it ranks on the lower end of Marvel Cinematic Universe running times, there are several MCU movies that are shorter than 118 minutes: The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Thor: The Dark World, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, and The Marvels.

Edward Norton has always been known for his remarkable acting skills, with standout performances in films like American History X and Fight Club. These roles helped him make his reputation as one of the most talented actors of his generation. He is someone who gravitates toward complex and unconventional characters.

When Norton took on the role of Bruce Banner in Marvel’s The Incredible Hulk, fans were eager to see his take on the green superhero. However, despite playing such an iconic character, Norton’s earnings for the movie were surprisingly modest and it was the first and last time fans saw him turn green.

A new year means new entries for the Marvel Cinematic Universe are on the way. First up will be Anthony Mackie taking center stage as the new Captain America in Captain America: Brave New World. The movie went into production in March of 2023, with filming lasting through June. But in December of ’23, another screenwriter was brought onto the project to write new material for reshoots, and those reshoots seemed to be quite substantial, lasting from May 2024 through November. We know that the story still involves the Serpent Society; in fact, the reshoots added Giancarlo Esposito into the mix as Sidewinder, the leader of the Serpent Society.
Even with all the reported reshoots and reworking plaguing the production and delaying the release, the brand recognition of Captain America and an added element of Harrison Ford’s Red Hulk being promoted, the movie is still being projected to make some coin on its opening weekend.

Hollywood doesn’t serve up lineups like this every day — a Marvel star rocking a baby bump, two Star Wars icons getting the Oscar nod, and Julia Roberts smack dab in the middle of her prime. This movie had it all: excellent performances, major star power, and a sprinkle of behind-the-scenes chaos to make it legendary.

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is often a thriving vein that theorists mine for new ideas, one wild theory posits that the 2008 Iron Man movie that kicked everything off was never actually set in the Sacred Timeline, and it makes a lot of sense. While the topic of what timeline the MCU is following has been hotly debated, the official sources have only added to the confusion when trying to provide direct answers. While the core Marvel Comics have long been established as following the Earth-616 universe, the movies clearly follow their own timeline.
However, fans speculated that the MCU remains an alternative version of the Earth-616 timeline, as seen in the movies. Despite this, official Marvel handbooks declared that the timeline established since Iron Man in 2008 has been taking place on Earth-199999. While it appears that both of these things are in contradiction of each other, hardcore fans...

Marvel Studios has made many characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe significantly more important than they were in Marvel Comics. Over the last 17 years, Marvel Studios has adapted dozens of complex and interesting characters from Marvel Comics into the live-action MCU, but has also made some major alterations when translating from page to screen. This has changed the roles of some low-level Marvel Comics characters, and has made them some of the most important characters in the MCU.
Many characters in the MCU are very faithful to their Marvel Comics counterparts, and some important figures from the comics have had smaller roles or are yet to appear at all. However, the MCU has also seen many characters grow in importance. Captain America: The Winter Soldier's Alexander Pierce, Black Panther's Nakia, Guardians of the Galaxy's Yondu and Doctor Strange's Wong, among others, have reaped the benefits of these changes.

There are countless choices for who might join this radical new take on the Marvel Universe next. X-Men (2000) was somewhat criticized for casting the tall Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, but the movie almost made a far more divisive change to Marvel’s most famous mutant. Wolverine has always been a cornerstone of the X-Men franchise, and Fox’s X-Men timeline was no different. Debuting in The Incredible Hulk #180 in 1974, the character quickly became a fan favorite thanks to his gruff demeanor and compelling backstory. When Fox made X-Men (2000), they faced pressure to make some unfavorable changes to certain characters, and Wolverine became a focal point for such discussions.
When X-Men premiered in 2000, it redefined superhero cinema, laying the groundwork for the modern comic book movie era. Among the film's standout decisions was casting the relatively unknown Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Despite his 6'2" stature – nearly a foot taller than the character in the comics – Jackman embodied Logan so well that fans quickly forgave the physical disparity. However,...

The next addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America: Brave New World, is set to reach theatres on February 14, 2025 – and wrestler Seth Rollins has confirmed that his role has been cut out of the film.
Captain America: Brave New World went into production in March of 2023, with filming lasting through June. In May, Rollins was spotted on set and appeared to be playing a member of the villainous Serpent Society. But in December of ’23, another screenwriter was brought onto the project to write new material for reshoots, and those reshoots seemed to be quite substantial, lasting from May 2024 through November. We know that the story still involves the Serpent Society; in fact, the reshoots added Giancarlo Esposito into the mix as Sidewinder, the leader of the Serpent Society… but for some reason, Rollins’ character no longer fit into the reworked story.

Rumor: Hulk Vs. Wolverine Movie Being Saved For Mutant Saga; Will Likely Tie Into Avengers Vs. X-men
When the Marvel Cinematic Universe launched in 2008, it was with Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk. The latter was neither a hit nor a flop, but given the tepid response to the reboot and behind-the-scenes issues with actor Edward Norton, it quickly became the franchise's black sheep.
Rights issues with Universal Pictures also came into play and it wasn't until 2022's She-Hulk: Attorney at Law that The Incredible Hulk was referenced in a meaningful way (next up is The Leader's return in Captain America: Brave New World).
We first told you about rumoured plans for a Hulk vs. Wolverine movie in November. Now, reliable leaker @Cryptic4KQual has shared some additional insights into this long-awaited battle and what it could mean for both the Mutant Saga and the rumoured Avengers vs. X-Men movie.
"I'm told the next Hulk-oriented film most likely isn't going to be a [Hulk vs. Wolverine] film," the insider posits.

These days, Marvel is everywhere. It's been that way for most of the decade thanks to the success of the Avengers franchise, but ever since the series' Multiverse Saga commenced, we literally mean everywhere. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has continued its dominance on the big screen by reaching out to the small one too, producing multiple Disney Plus shows a year that almost all share continuity with the MCU movies.
Being in a world where there are Marvel TV shows may not seem that unlikely for viewers who grew up fans of the classic series such as The Amazing Spider-Man and The Incredible Hulk, but the older fans of the MCU likely never saw the day coming when the franchise would make its presence felt across film and TV. Harrison Ford's Red Hulk has enough potential to be a recurring character after his introduction in Captain America: Brave New World, unlike many other MCU villains. Thaddeus Ross' MCU story took a while to reach its climax. Ross' journey began in 2008's The Incredible Hulk, was put on hold until 2016's Captain America: Civil War, and briefly resumed in 2021's Black Widow before Red Hulk appears on the scene in 2025's Captain America: Brave New World. In retrospect, Thaddeus Ross' transformation into Red Hulk may have been inevitable despite Hulk's lack of a solo movie and Ross' required recasting following William Hurt's passing.
Ross sides with the Leader and the Intelligencia to transform into the Red Hulk in the comics, but that doesn't seem to be the case in Captain America: Brave New World. Instead, Harrison Ford's President Ross appears to be an involuntary guinea pig for the Leader's experiments.

Things are back on track for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The beloved franchise has delivered some of its strongest outings in recent memory over the course of the past year, with the box-office sensation Deadpool and Wolverine and the universally-adored Agatha All Along all helping it climb back up to the top of the mountain.
It hasn't been an easy ride for the film series. Ever since it started the Multiverse Saga, its audience has questioned it, with some fearing that it shouldn't have carried on after the loss of multiple main characters in Avengers: Endgame and others feeling its was spreading itself too thin as it reached across film and television. But it has endured, and now it looks ahead to finishing the Multiverse Saga on a strong note, with some major comebacks planned for the occasions.
Speaking of comebacks, Marvel has officially unveiled the first look at its upcoming villain.

‘Captain America: Brave New World’ is bound to introduce new characters to the MCU but also see the return of some old characters and among them is The Leader, played by Tim Blake Nelson.
Initially, The Leader was only rumored to appear in the film but the character was confirmed by the release of the first trailer as fans could see Doctor Samuel Sterns in one of the background shots.
Since then Nelson, who also portrayed the character in ‘The Incredible Hulk’ spoke openly about his character and revealed that they will rely on practical effects to make him look as accurately as possible.

We first met Samuel Sterns in 2008's The Incredible Hulk; the movie ended with him being exposed to Gamma-irradiated blood which dripped into a wound on his head, causing his head to mutate.
We haven't seen him since but the villain will make his long-awaited return in Captain America: Brave New World next month.
It's an unexpected movie to bring The Leader back into the fold (why not She-Hulk: Attorney at Law?), though with Red Hulk set to be unleashed and a World War Hulk project somewhere on the horizon, this is likely just the beginning for the character's MCU arc.
Today, we have some promo art showcasing The Leader's full MCU costume. It's not particularly flashy but he looks comic-accurate and there's always a chance Sterns will don a traditional "suit" down the line.

Legendary actress Julia Roberts, during her career, has had the opportunity to work with some of the biggest names in the industry. Through movies such as Erin Brockovich, the Ocean’s series, and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Roberts has proven her mettle both as an actress and a collaborator.
However, one particular big name, who worked with Roberts on 1994’s I Love Trouble, did not share the best experience with the actress. So much so that Roberts publicly called him “completely disgusting.” The actor was none other than Nick Nolte, who went on to work on franchises such as Marvel and Star Wars.

Spider-Man: The Animated Series featured a wealth of Marvel characters, but more were planned for the show’s unproduced sixth season. Spider-Man: The Animated Series (1994–1998) remains one of the most beloved superhero cartoons of all time. Its serialized storytelling, dynamic action, and faithful adaptations of Spider-Man’s comic book lore captivated audiences. The series also introduced viewers to a broader Marvel Universe, featuring guest appearances from iconic characters like the X-Men, Iron Man, and Captain America. However, for all the cameos and crossovers it delivered, many major Marvel characters never made it to the small screen despite plans to include them.
Spider-Man: The Animated Series was a trailblazer in creating a shared Marvel Universe on television. It incorporated a wide array of characters and storylines, but the interconnected nature of Marvel properties also created challenges. Licensing restrictions were a persistent issue, as different networks and studios held rights to various characters.

Whichever movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe you consider your favorite can actually speak volumes about your personality. Since the beginning of the MCU’s movie timeline, the franchise has risen to become the predominant force in modern cinema. Not only has it catapulted the superhero genre to the top of the box office, but it has further established the heroes and villains of Marvel Comics in the forefront of society’s collective pop culture consciousness.
The many movies of the MCU vary significantly in countless ways. Most MCU fans have one particular movie that stands out in the franchise as their favorite, and considering the qualities of the movies themselves, this can also say a lot about the person in question. It might be far from an exact science, but it’s certainly true that a person’s best-loved Marvel movie speaks volumes about them. With that in mind,...

The superhero movies of the MCU, the Dcu, and other franchises have occasionally proven to hurt the careers of the actors who star in them. Long before the movies of the MCU cemented the genre as the most dominant in modern cinema, it wasn’t uncommon for superhero movies to be considered some of Hollywood’s worst offerings. Even though the genre’s reputation has changed, there are still superhero movies that don’t have the desired impact on audiences, with the effects sometimes spilling over into the careers of the actors involved.
When an actor gives a poor performance in a superhero movie, or when other issues come to light during production, it can have a negative impact on their career, particularly when a terrible comic book movie is involved. For some, this is a matter of issues arising after a film’s release, while other times it’s...

As DC Studios kicks off its rebooted on-screen universe and Marvel focuses more on quality over quantity, there are probably less superhero films on the way than you’d expect. At least, specifically in 2025.
In total, there are only four new ones on the way for the year, three of which are coming from Marvel. That’s largely the result of schedule shakeups and a bigger focus on TV series.
A sequel to Matt Reeves’s “The Batman” was originally set for October 2025, but it got pushed to 2027 in December. Otherwise, both studios have several TV series on the way, with DC debuting “Creature Commandos” — the first project in Gunn’s universe — back on Dec. 5.
Here are all of the superhero films set to be released between Marvel and DC in 2025.
Captain America: Brave New World Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford in “Captain America: Brave New World” (Marvel Studios)
