The incredible and mostly true story of Belle Gibson, the glorious end of Cobra Kai, the return of arguably the world’s most talked about reality show, Kate Hudson flexing her comedy muscles and Robert De Niro leading a prestige TV show are some of the highlights among the new films and series hitting Netflix in February.
On Feb. 5, Amy Schumer’s comedy Kinda Pregnant debuts on Netflix. Director Tyler Spindel’s movie centers on Lainy (Schumer), who wears a fake baby bump while feeling jealous of her best friend’s pregnancy and ends up meeting her perfect guy. Rounding out the cast are Jillian Bell, Will Forte, Damon Wayans Jr., Brianne Howey, Alex Moffat, Joel David Moore, Lizze Broadway, Urzila Carlson and Francis Benhamou.

Netflix has revealed its lineup for February 2025.
Reality TV enthusiasts are in for a treat. Netflix is putting a strong focus on this genre with the return of Love Is Blind for its eighth season, along with the debut of Celebrity Bear Hunt, a fresh competition-based reality show. For those who prefer a gripping thriller, Netflix will drop Apple Cider Vinegar, a new series premiering on February 6 that’s worth keeping an eye on.
In other big news, the highly popular series Cobra Kai will release its final batch of five episodes this month, marking the end of the TV series. While it’s bittersweet for fans, this isn’t the last we’ll see of Daniel Larusso, as he’s set to appear in an upcoming Karate Kid movie hitting theaters later this year.
Beyond these highlights, Netflix is also adding plenty of films and shows to its catalog.

There are some types of screen narratives that probably shouldn’t be attempted on limited means, and “international espionage thriller” may well be one of them. That notion is illustrated by “Alarum,” which features Scott Eastwood and Willa Fitzgerald as a budget “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” ex-spies united in an under-radar domesticity interrupted by heavily armed reminders of their past. Michael Polish’s film gamely tries to compensate for unspectacular production values with a lot of action — but its staging is pedestrian at best. Alexander Vesha’s script never convinces, and the competent actors fail to spark, despite Sylvester Stallone’s presence as a reluctantly reunited former colleague.
A prologue in 2019 Prague finds Joe (Eastwood) shot through a window, then overcoming further mano-a-mano assailants who include Lara (Fitzgerald). But rather confusingly, this fracas appears to have been staged so that duo can exit their top-secret careers as globe-trotting clandestine agents, disappearing together into civilian life.

Re-watching the Rambo movies proves that Sylvester Stallone’s franchise lost touch with the thing that originally made the series work. Adapted from author David Morrell’s novel of the same name, First Blood was a 1982 vigilante action movie starring Sylvester Stallone as the Ptsd-afflicted Vietnam veteran John Rambo. Rambo’s first movie was followed by 1985’s bombastic sequel Rambo: First Blood Part II, 1988’s Rambo III, 2008’s franchise reboot Rambo, and 2019’s Rambo: Last Blood. Each of these movies grew gradually gorier, more over-the-top, and more cartoonishly absurd in their depiction of Stallone’s indestructible antihero.

Coralie Fargeat has always zigged where others zagged. But knowing what she did and did not want to do helped her to focus her goals. She grew up in Paris on a diet of American movies, which built her taste for genre films. As a teenager, she shot “Star Wars” remakes with her little camera in her backyard.
“The ones that were resonating with me that were going out of the real world, out of reality, were more English-speaking genre films,” she told IndieWire at the Toronto International Film Festival, where her second feature, Cannes body horror breakout “The Substance” (Mubi), starring Demi Moore as an actress fighting her age with radical chemistry, won the screenwriting prize at Cannes and the TIFF People’s Choice Midnight Madness Award.

Jason Statham reteams with director David Ayer and screenwriter Sylvester Stallone for action thriller A Working Man. Here’s the trailer.
Before he became one of the world’s biggest action stars, Sylvester Stallone started his career as a screenwriter. He wrote the script for Rocky – he became the third person in history to be Oscar nominated for both Best Screenplay and Best Actor, after Charlie Chaplin and Orson Welles – and since then has had an active role in the scripting of his films. Examples? The Rambo franchise, Cobra, arm wrestling drama Over The Top and the first Expendables to lesser known efforts like Rhinestone and Driven.
His script is the basis for action thriller A Working Man, formerly known as Levon’s Trade. We talked about the name change here.
The synopsis reads as follows:

Although few theatrical franchises receive animated TV spinoffs like Back to the Future, Beetlejuice, and Ghostbusters did, this '80s trend predicted major change in 2020s Hollywood. While the blockbuster may have been born in the ‘70s with hits like Jaws, Star Wars, and Alien, the ‘80s was where the movie franchise truly flourished. The aforementioned hits all received sequels that expanded their fictional worlds and earned staggering sums at the box office, but the decade was also home to a slew of huge franchises that continue to this day. These include the Ghostbusters movies, the Gremlins series, and the Back to the Future franchise.

Nathan Fillion debuts Guy Gardner, DC’s other, other Green Lantern in James Gunn’s Superman. The character has been widely regarded as one of the most annoying heroes, even if he made his debut as essentially a copy of Hal Jordan in his initial appearance.

Nathan Fillion sports the iconic bowl cut that the character is famous for, and shows a noticeably irritable attitude in the few short minutes that he gets in the teaser. However, there is a reason that the character is a part of the Dcu’s maiden feature-length offering, and it might be to elevate Superman as a character.

Sylvester Stallone’s career is the perfect example of how to transition in Hollywood. The actor started off his career in action films, being at the forefront of films like Rocky, and Rambo, and then transitioned to films like The Expendables. However, he has recently taken another jump in his career, going from decades of film to television.

Most stars who try to make such a transition after being so successful decades ago cannot seem to make it work and eventually burn out. However, if figures are to be believed, the actor has become one of the rare people in the television industry to be making the very big bucks.
So much so, that he is earning as much as Yellowstone icon Kevin Costner.

Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky was a surprise worldwide hit despite starring mostly unknown faces, especially Stallone himself. The story of the action legend being almost homeless and out of money before he wrote the screenplay for the sports drama in three days and sold it to a studio is nothing short of legendary.
With Stallone, the studio took a gamble and reportedly only assigned $1 million for the production mostly because the actor insisted on playing the lead man. While it ended up being highly profitable with a worldwide gross of $225 million, Stallone himself could not recreate the feat with another franchise he created decades later.

Christmas has long been a favorite setting for action movie directors, as there’s something about the juxtaposition of holiday cheer against the hardcore violence of an R-rated action movie that makes the whole thing too tempting an opportunity to pass up. Indeed, there have been some Christmas action movie classics (many of which are written by Shane Black), which we dug into here, but now the time has come for you folks to have your say. What’s the greatest Christmas action movie? Is it a heavyweight like Die Hard or Lethal Weapon, or something more off the beaten path?
In making these lists, I was surprised at just how many action flicks take place around the holiday season. Granted, some of them are more obvious than others. I never realized First Blood was set at Christmas until watching it in 4K, where you can see how the police...

Anson Funds Management — an alternative asset manager led by chief investment officer Moez Kassam with activism strategy run by Sagar Gupta — has nabbed a stake in the studio and is now one of the top shareholders of Lionsgate stock, a source confirms to The Hollywood Reporter.
When asked for comment, a Lionsgate rep replied, “We always welcome the ideas and input of our shareholders.” The company declined to comment on how Anson had approached Lionsgate brass or what proposals that leadership may have fielded from the activist investor. James Mangold has proven himself to be a very consistent filmmaker with a true talent for working within many genres. There aren’t many directors working today who can say that they’ve made westerns, romantic comedies, crime thrillers, music biopics, and blockbuster franchise sequels, but Mangold has managed to show diversity within his output. The consistency of quality is critical to Mangold’s longevity within the industry; even the weaker projects in his filmography have noteworthy performances and excellent production design.
Not every single project that Mangold has worked on has been successful. “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” was a major disappointment that did not do justice to the Steven Spielberg films that preceded it, and “Knight and Day” was an awkward action comedy that seemed to misuse Tom Cruise. That being said, the vast majority of Mangold’s work has been of very high quality, with...

Taylor Sheridan is basically the Midas of the small screen, cranking out hit after hit with shows like Yellowstone, 1883, 1923, Mayor of Kingstown, and Tulsa King. His storytelling? Chef’s kiss. His characters? Larger than life. And the actors he ropes in? Well, let’s just say they’re not exactly struggling to pay the bills. When it comes to TV gold, Sheridan’s name shines brighter among the top showrunners. His knack for blending the emotional, gritty, and addictive TV has turned his projects into major moneymakers, not only for him but for the stars headlining these epic dramas.

Now, let’s talk about the jaw-dropping paychecks because clearly, Taylor Sheridan doesn’t just write scripts, he writes checks. And trust me, they’re massive ones. Just when you’ll hear how much these actors are raking in, you might just hit rock bottom.

Actor Sylvester Stallone changed his fate when he wrote and starred in the sports drama Rocky. The Best Picture winner spawned a franchise that has included five more sequels and a spinoff trilogy on Adonis Creed. While the Rocky franchise may have put Stallone on the map, it was his role in the Rambo franchise that made him an action star.
He starred as the Vietnam War veteran John Rambo in Ted Kotcheff’s First Blood. Contrary to the high-adrenaline action extravaganza that was the sequels, the first film was a poignant exploration of Vietnam War veterans’ struggle to integrate back into society while also dealing with their trauma. This reportedly ended darkly for John Rambo in the film originally.

Remember when they used to make animated series out of any hit franchise going? Mark Harrison does…
Let’s dive straight in…
Rambo: The Force Of Freedom
In an alternate ending for 1982’s First Blood, traumatised Vietnam War veteran John Rambo commits suicide. However, in post-production, director Ted Kotcheff and writer/star Sylvester Stallone opted for the canon ending where Rambo surrenders.
Had they kept the original, we certainly wouldn’t have four more Rambo sequels, and it might have dented the film’s viability for animated spin-off series as well. As it is, Ruby-Spears Productions created Rambo: The Force Of Freedom, a G.I. Joe-alike action series that ran for 65 episodes in 1986.
Battling the evil organisation S.A.V.A.G.E., Rambo and his “toyetic” friends travel the globe, pausing only to play with animals and teach children how to be good. Stallone was reportedly not best pleased but continued pancaking enemy combatants...

Jim Abrahams, a film director and writer behind hit slapstick comedies like “Airplane!,” “Hot Shots!,” the “Naked Gun” series and more, died Tuesday, his son Joseph confirmed to Variety. He was 80.
With his childhood friends Jerry and David Zucker, Abrahams formed the filmmaking trio, called Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker, and popularized the spoof genre of the 1980s.
“Jim Abrahams redefined the boundaries of humor through groundbreaking works like ‘Airplane!’ and ‘The Naked Gun’ series. Together with Jerry and David Zucker, he transformed satire into an art form, inspiring generations of comedians and filmmakers and leaving an indelible mark on the world of comedy,” said the National Comedy Center executive director Journey Gunderson in a statement.

Together with Jerry and David Zucker, he transformed satire into an art form, inspiring generations of comedians and filmmakers and leaving an indelible mark on the world of comedy,” said the National Comedy Center executive director Journey Gunderson in a statement.
With the Zucker brothers, Abrahams founded the The Kentucky Fried Theater while they all attended college together at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1971. That led to them making their film debut with the indie sketch...

With some of the mega-blockbuster hits coming out in recent years, it's easy to overlook some of the classic action movies from decades past. The 1980s were a golden age for the action genre, focusing on unstoppable action stars, witty dialogue, and fast-paced action that left no time for reflection. With iconic franchises starting like Rambo with First Blood in 1982, some films got lost in the shuffle and, while maybe not impressing or gaining widespread acclaim at the time, more than deserve another watch to appreciate their true brilliance.
The 1980s produced some of the best action films of all time, such as Midnight Run and Heartbreak Ridge, that demonstrate the versatility of the genre, showing a combination of humor, emotion, and heart-pumping action. From paranormal martial arts quests like The Last Dragon to gritty police slashers like Maniac Cop, these films all have a unique hook that makes them...

When people mention boxing films, the first title that comes to mind is usually Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky. The franchise’s legacy continues to inspire many modern movies, especially in the sports genre, but more than that, it cemented Stallone’s name in the Hollywood industry.

While he did a great job portraying Rocky Balboa, and we salute him for writing the brilliant script, we cannot help but compare his boxing skills with Daniel Day-Lewis. The 1997 movie The Boxer was one of his most unforgettable projects, and it’s easy to see why it remains one of his most outstanding performances ever.
Daniel Day-Lewis Trained Like a Pro Boxer Unlike Sylvester Stallone
Everyone already knows the story why Sylvester Stallone wrote Rocky. He was inspired by the championship match between Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner in 1975 and wrote the draft in just three days.

In the late ’80s and early ’90s, it wasn’t unusual for violent movies like RoboCop and Rambo to be turned into Saturday morning cartoons for kids, but The Toxic Avenger still seemed like an unlikely candidate — until the 1984 low-budget gorefest was cleaned up for “Toxic Crusaders” in 1991.
An environmentally-conscious superhero cartoon in the vein of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Captain Planet,” the show ran for one season. All 13 episodes are coming to Blu-ray from Troma on December 10.
While originally animated on 16mm film, “Toxic Crusaders” was mastered on videotape for broadcast, including all digital effects and transitions. To present the series in the best possible quality, Troma has used advanced AI models to upscale the standard definition masters in high definition to capture the original broadcast’s intended experience.

Success in the movie business is all about relativity. Comic book movies have been all the rage for more than two decades because they can make a lot of money, but those movies and similar franchise blockbusters are also tremendously expensive to make, often costing $200 million or more in the modern era. Relatively few movies rise to the level of mass appeal to justify such an investment. For everything else, it comes down to making the right movie for the right price given its intended audience.
Every so often, a movie comes around that was made for practically nothing and entered theaters with minimal expectations, only to blow those expectations right out of the water. Sometimes that is apparent on opening weekend. Sometimes it takes years to realize a low-budget flick became a massive success. In any event, when it does happen, it can be pretty special. So, let's have...

New story details surrounding an upcoming action movie suggest that Milla Jovovich might be the perfect replacement for Liam Neeson's Taken character. When director Pierre Morel's Taken first hit the big screens in 2008, it received mixed reviews from critics. While some appreciated how it offered escapist fantasy to male audiences across the globe, others could not help but overlook how it seemed derivative of many similar films from the past.
Despite being divisive, however, Taken performed incredibly well at the box office by earning $226 million against a budget of $25 million. The film played a crucial role in turning Liam Neeson into an action star. Its success even spawned multiple sequels, allowing Neeson to have a full-fledged action franchise under his belt. A decade after Liam Neeson last played Bryan Mills in Taken 3, it is hard to imagine anyone else portraying the character. However, after all these years,...

After decades of being confined to physically dominating roles, which is reasonable for a guy of Stallone’s stature, Tulsa King finally highlighted Sylvester Stallone’s most overlooked skill, his witty dialogue delivery. While Tulsa King is far from Taylor Sheridan’s best works, since the series’ inception, the Stallone-led show has become the next big thing for Paramount on TV after Yellowstone.

Now that Sylvester Stallone has exited Cliffhanger 2, there's only one franchise left for him to return to. Before the 1980s, sequels and franchises were quite rare. Even when they did happen, they were generally lower-budget than the original, and studios considered themselves lucky to gross around 60% of what the first entry made. Sylvester Stallone was one of the first actors to see the value in building brands for himself, starting with Rocky II in 1979. The star hadn't intended to make a Rocky movie series, but it quickly became a reliable saga for him to return to.
Other Sylvester Stallone movie franchises include The Expendables and Escape Plan, and for a time, it appeared Cliffhanger would join that list. The star was attached to the upcoming Cliffhanger 2, reprising his role as Gabe Walker. Instead, Variety has confirmed the project is being overhauled, and will instead be a soft reboot fronted by Lily James and Pierce Brosnan.

The bungling of Trick ‘r Treat by Warner Bros. — shelving it after well-received festival screenings before unceremoniously dumping it straight to DVD in 2009 — is well-documented, but had it received a traditional theatrical release and underperformed, there’s a chance it may have never entered the cultural zeitgeist. Instead, its authentic cult roots allowed it to blossom into the contemporary classic we celebrate today.

Notable for penning some of the finest pieces of television with The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire, writer Terence Winter is once again excelling in the small screen with Sylvester Stallone’s Tulsa King. The Writers Guild of America West has an issue with the company behind The Expendables franchise and Has Fallen films. WGA West president Meredith Stiehm and other leaders Wednesday sent a “Do Not Work” order to members about writing for Rambo producer Avi Lerner’s Millennium Pictures.
“The Guild has had to bring a significant number of claims against Millennium over the years for the company’s failure to pay writers initial compensation and residuals, as well as failure to pay writers within the timeframe established in the Mba,” the memo states (read it in full below). “The Guild has determined that Millennium is not financially responsible and requires the posting of an adequate bond before it can become signatory. Millennium has, to date, refused to do so.”
Millennium Films did not immediately respond to Deadline’s request for comment; we will update this post if and when we hear back.

Sylvester Stallone's ongoing role as Dwight Manfredi in Tulsa King is his funniest character since his 2021 superhero movie. Though Tulsa King sees Dwight building and maintaining a criminal empire as a mob boss, it also has more than its fair share of comedic moments. The cast of Tulsa King is extremely capable of telling good jokes, but one actor stands out among the rest: Sylvester Stallone. His ability to garner laughs and steal a comedic scene is really impressive and surprising, but his talent for comedies isn't completely unprecedented.
Stallone has done his fair share of comedies in the past, from kids movies like Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over to more mature comedies like Oscar. Neither of those films were particularly well received, though, and he mostly shied away from comedy throughout his career in favor of actioners like Rambo, Rocky, and The Expendables. That seems to have changed in recent years,...

The action franchise that should have been Jason Statham's best only proved how much the movies wasted his talents. Jason Statham's action movies have been entertaining fans for over 20 years, and he had an unusual route to stardom. After years of odd jobs like working in market stalls or being a music video extra, Statham made his debut in Guy Ritchie's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Statham's action debut in John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars would then later set him on a different path entiriely.
He might be typecast in the genre, but Statham doesn't appear to mind that one bit. Netflix's hit action-thriller Rebel Ridge could easily become a franchise, but it needs to avoid running into the same problem as a movie it's often compared to, First Blood. Rebel Ridge has been a resounding success for Netflix, and talk of a sequel has already started just a month after its release date. There are plenty of potential stories for Terry Richmond (Aaron Pierre) to get into more trouble, and turning Rebel Ridge into an action franchise seems like a promising idea. If it does become the next big action franchise, though, Rebel Ridge will need to learn from the history of action movies.
The premise of Rebel Ridge instantly drew comparisons to First Blood, one of Sylvester Stallone's earliest action hits. Both movies follow military veterans who are harassed by a small town police force and decide to fight back against their corruption and biases. First Blood...

It is exceedingly rare in today's IP-dominated movie marketplace to see an original film spawn a long-running franchise. Granted, these motion pictures aren't always wholly original. But while they tend to be derivative of narrative formulas that have worked in the past, they are at least written from scratch with no significant assistance from a novel or a comic book or a video game or, nowadays, the origin story of a popular brand.
So, kudos to Gregory Widen and Paul Maslansky for possessing the creative chutzpah to launch two very successful franchises in, respectively, "Highlander" and "Police Academy." Stephen King often takes to Twitter to highlight or recommend movies and shows that are both topical and under-the-radar. Earlier this month, he described the Netflix chart-topping "Rebel Ridge" as "a thinking man's Rambo" and endorsed the brilliant, yet overlooked supernatural drama series "Evil," which is also streaming on Netflix at the moment. King, of course, is intimately acquainted with the horror-thriller genre, and one of his latest genre recommendations is a recent release helmed by Jt Mollner, revolving around a casual hookup gone horribly wrong. Yes, King took to Twitter to praise "Strange Darling" — starring Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner — while attaching the film's official trailer to underline how intriguing the premise is:
"I got an advance screener of Strange Darling, and it's really terrific. I'll try to attach the trailer here, because it's also a clever masterpiece. Can't say more; watch the film and you'll understand what the trailer is up to.

Despite their success at the box office, all three of Sylvester Stallones blockbuster franchises Rocky, Rambo, and The Expendables encountered the same problem a few sequels down the line. Not only did Rocky launch Stallones movie career; it made him an A-list star. Several Bollywood movies have faced controversies over their titles, leading filmmakers to make changes to avoid legal or political issues. Here are some prominent examples:
1. Padmaavat (2018)
Original Title: Padmavati
The film, based on the epic poem Padmavat, faced backlash from Rajput groups who believed it distorted historical facts about Queen Padmavati. To address the concerns, the title was changed to Padmaavat to clarify that the movie was inspired by the fictional poem, not historical events.

Original Title: Billu Barber
Barbers’ associations found the word “barber” offensive and protested against the title. To avoid further controversy, the makers dropped “Barber” from the title, and the film was simply released as Billu.

In his review for Netflix's Rebel Ridge, Stephen King compared the action movie with Sylvester Stallone's Rambo. While it is understandable where his opinions about both films come from, it is hard not to notice how his review underscores that Rambo has often been misunderstood. Directed by Jeremy Saulnier, Rebel Ridge was trapped in development hell for several years because of production delays. However, despite the setbacks, the film has finally hit the small screen and is being hailed by viewers and critics as one of the best offerings of the action genre in 2024.
Even before Rebel Ridge landed on Netflix, many could not help but notice its narrative similarities with the first Rambo movie, First Blood. Owing to this, when it finally premiered, viewers and critics further drew parallels and comparisons between the two. Since Stephen King usually stays up to date with movie and TV trends,...

Stephen King officially approves of Netflix's Rebel Ridge. The movie tells the story of a Marine who is forced to stand against the police after his cousin's bail money is stolen by the officers. Aaron Pierre's Terry Richmond is left to wage a bloody war against the corrupt police department and against the very concept of civil asset forfeiture. Rebel Ridge is inspired by true events, though it takes extreme liberty with its storytelling.
In a post on King's personal Twitter account, the author compared the movie favorably with Rambo. He still has respect for the Rambo author, David Morrell, but he believes that the Netflix movie is deeper and far more thoughtful. Check out his full quote below:
Rebel Ridge: If this is a Netflix original, it's one of the best. A thinking man's Rambo. No diss to David Morrell.

Sylvester Stallone has been a Hollywood staple for five full decades at this point. Dating back to his first turn as the underdog boxer Rocky Balboa in 1972's "Rocky," the actor has been a mainstay of the screen. Like any actor who has managed to stay in the game this long, Stallone has had his ups and downs, but he's still here and still relevant more than 50 years later. But what is the best movie that Stallone has ever been in? What is the defining moment of the actor's varied filmography?
Not that Rotten Tomatoes is the be-all, end-all for such a discussion, but the review aggregator is a measuring stick often used in the modern era. Well, according to Rotten Tomatoes, 2015's "Creed" stands tall above the rest of Stallone's films with a 95% approval rating. That is not all that surprising when we break it down (more on that...

The cast of Tulsa King season 2 includes several returning characters and a handful of new faces, as well as actors both famous and fledgling. While Tulsa King centers around Sylvester Stallone's Dwight Manfredi, it also has a very large ensemble cast both helping and opposing him. Tulsa King has a very talented and deep cast of actors, from Emmy winners to massive movie stars like Stallone. Tulsa King season 2 will add a few more award-winning actors into the mix, and it can be helpful to get refreshed on who plays everyone, along with a recap of Tulsa King season 1.
The trailer for Tulsa King season 2 shows that Dwight will be expanding his criminal empire in Tulsa even further than ever before, and that means there will be several new characters on the way. The ending of Tulsa King season 1 also means that there are several actors who won't be...

Although The Conners season 7 is almost certain to beat Roseannes ending in terms of popularity, this still might not be enough to satisfy viewers. The Conners has a large cast of characters, so it will be tough for the series to give everyone a happy ending as the sitcom spinoff wraps up. The Conners season 7 will be the shows final outing and, with three generations of the eponymous working-class clan to follow, it might be tricky for the show to find screen time for everyones character arcs.
