There's only one way for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise to move forward if Johnny Depp isn't returning for the sixth movie. The first Pirates of the Caribbean film was surprising when it was announced, as it was based off a theme park ride. However, 2003's Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was a massive success upon its release. Part of the reason The Curse of the Black Pearl was so successful was because it featured the debut of Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow, a reckless but extremely charismatic pirate.
Depp has returned for every Pirates of the Caribbean movie since, and has made Jack Sparrow one of the most iconic movie characters of all time. However, the franchise's future has been uncertain since 2017's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean 6 has been confirmed to be in development,...

Warning! This post contains Spoilers for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 7Skeleton Crew episode 7 features several exciting Star Wars Easter eggs and references. As the kids of The Onyx Cinder finally return home to At Attin, the race is on between them and the band of pirates seeking to claim the planet's fabled treasure. To that end, several nods and connections to the greater Star Wars universe are made, including a dark parallel to Darth Vader himself in Revenge of the Sith.
As was seen in Skeleton Crew episode 6, Jude Law's Jod was apprehended by his old pirate crew on Skull Ridge Mountain after betraying the kids. However, he did manage to convince the crew not to kill him until he could prove that he had found the location of Tak Rennod's legendary treasure. Meanwhile, the kids themselves successfully recovered The Onyx Cinder and are finally on their way back home to At Attin.

Skeleton Crew brought a fun pirate-themed aesthetic to the galaxy far, far away. The Star Wars series never shies away from dropping easter egg references to pop culture pirates and there is no franchise with more reverence in that space than Pirates of the Caribbean, led by Johnny Depp who starred in all five movies.

Pintel and Ragetti were much-loved characters in Pirates of the Caribbean but dropped out of the story. The Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise launched in 2003 with Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and rapidly gained a loyal fan base. Pintel and Ragetti, played by Lee Arenberg and Mackenzie Crook respectively, appeared in the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies to excellent effect. The comedic duo was widely loved and respected as a highlight of the series. Unfortunately, they did not return for the fourth and fifth outings.
After The Curse of the Black Pearl, Arenberg and Crook starred as Pintel and Ragetti in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Some of Pirates of the Caribbean's best sword fights, banter, and character development occurred in these movies, giving Pintel and Ragetti many opportunities to shine.

Keira Knightley’s spy thriller Black Doves is already a hit on Netflix, providing the leading, action-packed, comical, and heartfelt role that’s been missing since her last starring Pirates of the Caribbean movie. After making notable appearances in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), Bend it Like Beckham (2002), and Love Actually (2003), Knightley skyrocketed to fame at 18 years old upon starring in the main female role in the swashbuckler hit Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003). As Elizabeth Swann, Knightley proved she was highly skilled at playing quick-witted, action-adept romantic lead characters.
Knightley would appear as Elizabeth Swann in four Pirates of the Caribbean movies; her last starring role in 2007’s At World’s End, followed by a cameo in 2017’s Dead Men Tell No Tales. During this time, Knightley also expanded her filmography through a notable string of period romances and wartime dramas,...

Pirates of the Caribbean 6 updates have kept the continuation of the Disney franchise alive despite a considerable hiatus since the last entry. How the Pirates of the Caribbean story will continue, and whether Johnny Depp will return remains a mystery though. When Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was released, its enormous success was unexpected. Before 2003, pirate movies were seen as guaranteed box office flops, but the franchise has remained popular ever since, constantly proving its international mass appeal and earning Depp an Oscar nomination for his role as Jack Sparrow.
2017's Dead Men Tell No Tales, the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, earned close to $800 million worldwide, and Disney announced plans for another pirate adventure in 2018. In 2024, a film’s TV debut is hardly ever an event to remember. Not so this Christmas, when the cinema event of the year might just premiere on the small screen…
Remember network premieres? Christmastime, and Christmas Day in particular, used to be full of them. With much of the Northern hemisphere forced to take some time off and the sun setting before we’ve finished lunch, channels knew they had something of a captive audience – one that couldn’t always be satisfied by the same six episodes of Dad’s Army.
Instead, the festive period often turned into a lifeline for the cash-strapped cinephile. With some of recent years’ biggest blockbusters making their way to the likes of the BBC, ITV and Channel 4, there was always the slightest tingle of excitement that came with the knowledge we’d finally – finally – be able to watch Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End...

Sometimes, a story is too epic or complex to fit into even a three-hour movie. From the emotional exploration of nuanced characters who deserve to gradually be developed to the rich world-building of fantasy or sci-fi tales, directors and writers occasionally need more screen time to tell a story right. Furthermore, filmmakers often face the challenge of doing justice to their sources, especially when these are beloved and acclaimed books.
When properly executed, a "part one" movie is not a mere setup but a complete and satisfying journey that, even if it might work as a stand-alone piece, offers depth as part of a larger and more significant narrative. The best first-part films lay the groundwork for an even more thrilling conclusion. They welcome the viewer into their world and introduce them to the characters there, encouraging them to empathize and build a connection throughout the viewing experience.

Movies are a source of entertainment, yet when you add in the concepts of ‘budget’ and ‘money,’ they are rather a gamble to make. In the last few decades, the cost of making films has ballooned, reaching unimaginable levels, especially in franchises and superhero cinema. Given how movies like Godzilla Minus One, made against a meager budget, can still succeed and go on to win an Oscar, these skyrocketing costs really make one wonder if these films are worth the risk.

Will Turner goes on a mini murder spree when hes leaving a trail for Beckett in Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End, and the movie strangely glosses over it. At Worlds End was one of a trio of highly anticipated threequels that arrived in theaters in the summer of 2007, along with Spider-Man 3 and Shrek the Third. And since Shrek the Third was a massive step down from its predecessor and Spider-Man 3 has gone down as one of the worst comic book movies ever made, Pirates of the Caribbean arguably had the best sequel of the year.
Set a few months after Dead Mans Chest, the third Pirates of the Caribbean film follows efforts to find and rescue Captain Jack Sparrow after hes trapped in Davy Jones Locker. Johnny Depp returning for Pirates of the Caribbean 6 wouldn't be a solve-allthe Disney franchise's box-office trends prove that it must return to the basics. Another Pirates of the Caribbean sequel has been confirmed, but just about everything is still in the air with this project. The big question on everyone's mind has been whether Depp would return to the project or not, with a common sentiment being that the film can't succeed without the star. However, another factor of the earlier Pirates of the Caribbean movies must be brought back into play if a sixth film is to redeem the franchise.
Of course, Depp's return to play Jack Sparrow is a key first step. It's becoming increasingly clear that fan outcry would be intense if the actor weren't restored to his iconic role, especially considering Disney's public dismissal of Depp leading up to his defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard.

Pirates of the Caribbean 6 has been confirmed to be in development since 2018, and Disney's upcoming action/adventure movie faces an uphill battle to overcome the franchise's issues. Ever since the release of 2017's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, there has not been much confidence about the future of the franchise. Dead Men Tell No Tales holds a 30% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and was not praised by many critics either. In fact, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has been on a downward spiral ever since the original movie came out in 2003, something Potc 6 needs to change.
Since the release of Dead Men Tell No Tales, there have been different plans proposed for the sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film. At one point, a reboot starring Margot Robbie seemed to be gaining momentum, but that was eventually canceled. In March 2024, producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed that...

Filling Johnny Depp's shoes in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will be no easy task, but after a concerning four-movie trend, this won't even be the greatest obstacle for Disney's next installment. Depp's Jack Sparrow is an iconic feature of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, but it's currently unclear whether this character will make a return. While the best-case scenario would see, at the very least, a cameo, there's plenty of indication that Johnny Depp alone won't be enough to guarantee Pirates of the Caribbean 6's success.
The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has been at a standstill for the better part of a decade, with the fifth installment, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, being released in 2017. Since then, Disney has faced significant controversy. Depp was dismissed from his role due to the ongoing legal conflict with his ex-wife, Amber Heard, and even once things had settled down,...

Will Johnny Depp don the tricorn hat and eyeliner once again as Captain Jack Sparrow in the much-anticipated Pirates of the Caribbean 6? Well, producer Jerry Bruckheimer is keen to see Depp return to his iconic role. However, the actor’s potential return to the acclaimed franchise is like a ship lost at sea—adrift and uncertain.

Meanwhile, Naomie Harris, who once morphed into a million crabs as Tia Dalma, has recently expressed fervent enthusiasm for a return, despite her character’s rather crustacean finale. In true pirate fashion, she recognized that the franchise has a knack for resurrecting the seemingly unsinkable, so she’s not ruling out a comeback in the next installment, Pirates of the Caribbean 6.
Bruckheimer himself is drafting multiple scripts for the sixth flick, tempting fans with the promise of yet another adventurous voyage.

Millie Bobby Brown's new movie, The Electric State, has a budget surpassing all of Stranger Things season 4. The Electric State's $320 million budget is comparable to top films like Star Wars, showing a big investment. Despite risks, Netflix is banking on Brown's success and the Russo brothers to make The Electric State a hit.
Millie Bobby Browns new sci-fi movie makes the record-breaking season 4 of Stranger Things look ridiculous. Brown has starred in Netflixs Stranger Things since 2016 as one of the main protagonists, a girl with supernatural powers called Eleven. Brown has also starred in other hit Netflix productions recently, including Enola Holmes and Damsel, however, there is one upcoming Netflix movie for Millie Bobby Brown that is expected to be her biggest production yet.

Spinoff series for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise characters could offer fresh adventures beyond Jack Sparrow. Characters like Captain Barbossa, Anamaria, Will Turner, and Carina Smyth have untapped potential for standalone stories. Incorporating other characters like Bootstrap Bill, Redd, Angelica Teach, and Mr. Gibbs could expand the franchise's universe.
Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean franchise includes a variety of interesting characters who could potentially carry their own spinoff series. Pirates of the Caribbean has always focused on the adventures of Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow, who serves the franchise well as a reliable inciting incident and mascot. Disney has yet to try its hand at a Pirates of the Caribbean-inspired TV show, but it would not be surprising if this happened in the future.

One of the central villains in Frank Herbert's 1965 novel "Dune" is the amoral hedonist Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, ruler of House Harkonnen and overseer of spice production on the planet Arrakis. In the novel, he is described as being so immensely fat that he required a suit of anti-gravity devices -- called suspensors -- to hoist his massive girth. The Baron is cruel, power-mad, and regularly has sex slaves sent to his quarters so that he may engage in sick acts of murderous coitus. Some have criticized the Baron as an example of fatphobia and, rather unfortunately, "queer villainy" in popular media.

For that reason, it feels like a good time to look back at the highest-grossing Memorial Day weekend box office openings of all time, dating back to 1996. Now it’s important to note these are Memorial Day weekend openings not Memorial Day weekend box office champions – “The Day After Tomorrow” pulled in over $85 million when it opened in 2004, but the top film at the box office for the holiday weekend was holdover “Shrek 2.”

The Oscar winner who starred as the wily Captain Hector Barbossa in the 5 films, fed off Depp’s Jack Sparrow perfectly to create a brilliant chemistry.

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise can easily be called one of the most beloved and successful series of all time. The entire cast is full of massively talented actors, and every single aspect of the series is well thought-out, especially when it comes to the first three films.
Pirates of the Caribbean [Credit: Walt Disney Studios]Having been known as one of the best trilogies out there, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End are certainly regarded as the better parts of the series. This is especially true for the third film, as many fans adore the final sequence of the movie.
With this, many audiences would be surprised to know that when the 2007 film went into production, its script wasn’t even finished.

Disney is apparently invested in keeping up with one of their most successful franchises, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ with or without Johnny Depp at the helm.
When Disney decided to part ways with Depp at the height of the Amber Heard controversies, Reports soon emerged that they were looking forward to having an all-female led reboot starring ‘Barbie’s’ own Margot Robbie, but the idea didn’t take.
Now there are plans to bring Dune’s ‘Austin Butler’ onboard and fans can’t wait to see it. The downside? We might have to live with having Austin Butler have a pirate accent for the next five years or so.

Black Sails offers a more realistic and historically accurate depiction of the Golden Age of Piracy, unlike Pirates of the Caribbean. Black Sails has stronger source material from a novel, while Pirates of the Caribbean is based on a theme park ride. Black Sails has more nuanced characters compared to the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean.
While the Pirates of the Caribbean series has meandered through several unnecessary sequels, the pirate TV show Black Sails is better than Disney's franchise in many ways. Stellan Skarsgard revealed that he was hesitant to star in Mamma Mia!, but once he realized he just had to “look cute and be silly,” he was all in.
The veteran actor recently admitted to Vanity Fair that he was initially taken aback when asked to be in the 2008 movie musical with Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried because he can’t sing or dance.
“It was absurd to ask me to be in a musical,” Skarsgard said. “I can’t sing, I can’t dance. And then I saw it was also Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth, and they can’t sing and dance either, so I felt a little safer there.”
In Mamma Mia!, Sophie (Seyfried) sets out to find her real father before her wedding day as her mother Donna (Streep) had been intimate with three men (Skarsgard, Brosnan and Firth), right before she got pregnant with Sophie.

Gladiator 2's budget is reportedly $310 million, increasing concerns about the film's profitability despite high expectations and a star-studded cast. Ridley Scott faces mounting pressure as Gladiator 2 needs to surpass his highest-grossing film, The Martian, to break even with the expensive budget. Unexpected production woes and costly delays inflated Gladiator 2's budget, making it a potential make-or-break moment in Scott's filmmaking career.
The highly-anticipated Ridley Scott sequel Gladiator 2 had become one of the most expensive movies ever made, raising concerns after the acclaimed director's recent box office flop. While 2023's Napoleon starring Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby was an impressive and throughout action epic, the film had a massive $200 million budget and struggled to become profitable at the worldwide box office. Napoleon only earned roughly $61.5 million at the domestic box office and only earned a total of $218 million worldwide, making the latest Ridley Scott biopic blockbuster a substantial flop.

Barbie becomes the third "original" movie this century to hit record-breaking box office success, earning over $1.4 billion worldwide. They may be rascals, and scoundrels, and villains, and knaves, but it’s impossible to say that pirates aren’t fun to watch — at least on screen. And of course, there is perhaps no pirate more famous in pop culture at this point than Jack Sparrow, the bumbling, drunken heart of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.
Known for never having a plan but somehow always ending up with one that works out, the unreasonably charming pirate was brought to life by Johnny Depp for five movies across nearly 15 years. In his journeys, he encountered the Kraken, Davy Jones, the Fountain of Youth, and even Poseidon’s trident.

Showrunner David Jenkins reveals that Zheng Yi Sao, the Pirate Queen, is one of history's most successful pirates, surpassing Blackbeard in her accomplishments. Zheng Yi Sao's organized approach and focus on success make her a more formidable foe than Stede has encountered before. The appearance of Zheng Yi Sao in Our Flag Means Death season 2 expands the show's exploration of piracy and brings wider recognition to a historically underrated pirate figure.
Our Flag Means Death season 2's famed historical Pirate Queen reveal is explained by showrunner David Jenkins. The Max romantic comedy follows the trials and tribulations of Rhys Darby's Stede Bonnet, an aspirational but inexperienced wannabe pirate who caught the attention of feared pirate Blackbeard (Taika Waititi). Season 2 catches up with Stede and what's left of Revenge's marooned original crew, as he attempts to reunite with the heartbroken Blackbeard following their complicated breakup in Our Flag Means Death season 1 ending.
