Rilo Kiley are reuniting for Just Like Heaven 2025, as leaked by a billboard on Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park, Los Angeles.
Like many other announcements, the lineup reveal for the nostalgia festival was put on hold due to the LA wildfires, but it appears there was some miscommunication and the billboard still went up. Besides Rilo Kiley, Vampire Weekend, Empire of the Sun, Bloc Party, and the recently reunited TV on the Radio are also set to top the bill.
Back in 2021, singer Jenny Lewis and lead guitarist Blake Sennett reunited for Linda Perry’s Rock-n-Relief livestream benefit. At the time, they hadn’t played together since Sennett joined Lewis onstage at Coachella 2015.
Rilo Kiley’s most recent project, their compilation LP RKives, was released in 2013. One year later, Lewis confirmed their breakup in an interview with the National Post.

Coheed and Cambria frontman Claudio Sanchez has shared a cover of The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven” as part of his monthly YouTube “Claudio Covers” series.
With the recent release of The Cure’s highly anticipated comeback album, Songs of a Lost World, the Coheed frontman celebrated the occasion by covering one of the band’s classic songs.
As Claudio tells it, he was actually introduced to the track via the brilliant cover version by Dinosaur Jr.
“This song was introduced to me by some friends as a cover done by Dinosaur Jr,” Sanchez said (via the YouTube description). “They were skaters, so the reference to ‘tricks’ at the top of the song conjured up ideas of a smitten lover’s curiosity for executing kick-flips and rail slides.”
He continued, “At the time, I didn’t know much of The Cure’s discography outside of ‘Boy’s Don’t Cry,...

Edward Norton still has the honor of starring in the only solo Hulk movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he is also one of the few actors to have their role replaced in the series that spans over 30 movies and 10 canonical shows. Ruffalo began his MCU journey a dozen years ago in the first Avengers blockbuster; where he “incredibly” captured the duality of Banner/Hulk better than any prior performer. Ruffalo managed to pull off the feat in a team-up event, whereas Norton, and a pre-mcu Eric Bana, had an entire feature dedicated to the hero.
Ruffalo immediately connected with audiences more than any of his predecessors, which raised the bar for how compelling this hero could be in live-action, while also rounding out the Avengers ensemble wonderfully. He gave the Marvel Cinematic Universe a big green hand to help lift the franchise to stratospheric heights. Without individual projects to focus on,...

There was at least some hubris in Weezer’s 30th anniversary Blue Album tour announcement. Openers the Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr. are more than potential show-stealers, they’re established headliners in their own right. How do you follow that? You drop a giant curtain to reveal a Weezer-branded spacecraft. It seemed instantly clear at the tour opener in Saint Paul, Minn., on Sept. 4 that Weezer have reached new heights as an arena band.

With a 54% Rotten Tomatoes score, Reese Witherspoons 2005 rom-com Just Like Heaven stands as a spiritual remake of one of Cary Grants early screwball films. Grant and Constance Bennett star in 1937s Topper as the ghostly Kerby couple who spend their afterlife trying to cheer up their strung-up boss Cosmo Topper. The films quick dialogue and sharp jokes are signature aspects of the screwball genre, and Just Like Heaven employs these techniques with a modern twist. Although not entirely identical from a plot standpoint, these two films share similar themes, characters, and ghost-centric comedy.
These films also fall quite low on Witherspoons and Grants respective career totem poles. Just Like Heaven was eventually revived to cult classic status, especially as a relic of early 2000s rom-coms. Likewise, Topper remains relatively unknown when compared to Grants more popular screwball work like Bringing Up Baby, His Girl Friday, and The Philadelphia Story. Connecting...

Mark Ruffalo's film debut came in 1994, when he appeared as a seductive and possibly supernatural super-hunk named Christian who periodically appears to Tracy Wells in the horror sequel "Mirror Mirror II: Raven Dance." The producers, likely pleased with his performance also hired Ruffalo to play a brand-new role in "Mirror Mirror III: The Voyeur." In that film, he played a sexy moving truck worker named Joey. Ruffalo did not appear in "Mirror Mirror 4: Reflections."
Despite starring in the "Mirror Mirror" movies, as well as the gore flick "The Dentist," Ruffalo had a pretty varied early career. He appeared in the '60s-set coming-of-age drama "There Goes My Baby" in 1994, the indie comedy "Safe Men" in 1998, and the Oscar Bait biopic "54" that same year. He worked with Ang Lee in 1999's "Ride with the Devil," but exploded into the pop consciousness with his memorable performance in Kenneth Lonergan...

‘Mother of the Bride’ Review: Brooke Shields Says I Do to Netflix’s Aggressively Inoffensive Rom-Com
After “Ticket to Paradise” and “Shotgun Wedding” showed us the different ways in which calamity ensues when planning weddings abroad, Netflix releases “Mother of the Bride,” which combines the essential elements of both those recent romantic comedies into one passable package. The far-off setting emphasizes the lavish and luxe, though the narrative is cheaply woven and fairly threadbare. While “Mean Girls” director Mark Waters’ latest fails to add anything unique to the conversation, it does scrounge up a modest amount of heart when it comes to its saccharine sweet message of never giving up on happily ever after.
Mere seconds after her extravagant proposal, Emma (Miranda Cosgrove) begins fretting to her fiancé Rj (Sean Teale) about how to frame their engagement to her judgmental widowed mom Dr. Lana Winslow (Brooke Shields), who doesn’t even know her only child has a steady beau. Cue zany, plucky score. Mom’s been busy saving the world,...

Dave Matthews — yes, the one with the band — joined Dinosaur Jr. onstage during their show in Seattle Wednesday night (January 12th), where they all did a cover of Neil Young’s “Cortez the Killer” together.
Dino Jr. like to bring their friends onstage. While they were in London last November, they brought out My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields to shred on a cover The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven.” In just the past week alone, they’ve recruited Pavement’s Stephen Malkmus, Modest Mouse’s Isaac Brock, Red Fang’s Bryan Giles, and The Dandy Warhols’ Peter Holmström at various shows.
And Matthews wasn’t the only guest Wednesday, either: Mudhoney’s Mark Arm also assisted J Mascis and company for covers of The Stooges’ “T.V. Eye” and “Real Cool Time,” while Pearl Jam/Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron sat in during “Yeah We Know.” See some fan-captured clips...

Hollywood has a long tradition of brutal honesty, as Mark Ruffalo found when in negotiations for David Fincher’s Zodiac. More below…
As the Incredible Hulk himself, Mark Ruffalo is surely one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood in 2023. Combining his Marvel clout with some brilliantly restrained performances in films like Spotlight and Dark Waters, he’s a rare actor that seems able to do it all. And with a particularly, shall we say, memorable turn in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things arriving in the UK early next year, it looks like his range is only getting wider.
But that wasn’t the case back in the mid-noughties, it turns out. In a new interview with High Snobiety, Ruffalo is pretty candid with the position his career was in before David Fincher cast him in his serial killer drama, Zodiac.
“Studios, they weren’t coming to me in that way,...

Mark Ruffalo revealed that his casting in the 2007 serial killer drama Zodiac didn’t go quite as some may think.
In a recent interview with High Snobiety, the actor said a studio rep made it clear that they didn’t particularly want him in the Paramount Pictures film.
“I’ll never forget when they were negotiating my deal [for Zodiac], the studio negotiator literally said to my manager, ‘Look, we don’t give a shit about Mark Ruffalo, we don’t even want Mark Ruffalo in this movie, so you’re going to take what we’re offering you or forget it,'” Ruffalo recalled.
In Zodiac, directed by David Fincher, two reporters, Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey Jr., become obsessed with tracking down the Zodiac Killer, an unidentified murderer who went on a killing spree in San Francisco in the 1970s. Ruffalo portrayed Detective David Toschi in the movie.

Mark Ruffalo’s name holds serious clout in Hollywood these days (no doubt helped by his ongoing role as Bruce Banner/Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe), but it wasn’t always like that for the 55-year-old actor. In a new interview with High Snobiety, Ruffalo recalled the casting process for David Fincher’s acclaimed 2007 crime thriller “Zodiac” and being told by studio representatives that nobody cared about him.
“Studios, they weren’t coming to me in that way,” Ruffalo said of his career in the mid-2000s. “I’ll never forget when they were negotiating my deal [for ‘Zodiac’], the studio negotiator literally said to my manager, ‘Look, we don’t give a shit about Mark Ruffalo. In a perfect coalescence of late-’80s indie rock delight, Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine joined Dinosaur Jr. onstage in London Tuesday night (November 14th) to perform a rendition of The Cure‘s “Just Like Heaven.”
Mbv and Dino Jr. toured together back in the day, and it looks like they still regularly keep in touch. The latter band brought Shields onstage at a Dinosaur 30th anniversary show in New York in 2015; Shields stopped by Dinosaur Jr.’s Camp Fuzz rock camp in 2019; and J Mascis appeared in a promo clip for Shields’ new Fender pedal last September. And although Dinosaur Jr. have a studio version of their “Just Like Heaven” cover, our records indicate this is the first time Shields has performed it with them live. As you might expect, it was very loud and kicked ass.
Shields also assisted Dinosaur Jr. with “Tarpit” from their 1987 album You’re Living All Over Me,...

All the Light We Cannot See is a drama series created by Steven Knight, directed by Shawn Levy, and based on the novel by Anthony Doerr.
Prepare your hearts to beat to the rhythm of one of the most sentimental series you can watch on television. “All the Light We Cannot See” is a spectacular production set in the final days of World War II during the German occupation of Paris, in which a blind girl broadcasts a radio program and helps the French resistance win the war. Meanwhile, the Germans search for her, some driven by sentiment and others for different reasons.
The series showcases stunning imagery, such as the breathtaking aerial shots, and boasts solid execution and writing.
However, be warned if you’re not a fan of sentimental stories, because this series delves deeply into the realm of emotions.

The Season 2 finale of Netflix’s Heartstopper is aptly titled: “Perfect.” Although in some ways, the episode drops the Truham-Higgs gang into a best of times/worst of times scenario, creator Alice Oseman, on whose graphic novels the series is based, not only sticks the landing but beautifully sets the stage for takeoff on Season 3. (You’ll recall that, after seeing how rapturously received Season 1 was, Netflix gave it a two-season pickup.) So what actually happens? Read on…

Paris has been the backdrop to many a great romance, and in Heartstopper, that’s no different. A school trip to the French capital in season two is the site of an instant connection between boy…. and bookshop. When Isaac Henderson sees Shakespeare and Co. on the banks of the River Seine, it’s love at first sight. He’s punch-drunk in its aisles, wandering around with wide eyes, balancing an ever-growing stack of titles in his arms and basking in the literary sunshine.
It’s not as though Isaac didn’t come to Paris pre-stocked with books (it’s a good job the schools travelled by coach and not air – you could hardly ask this teen to load up a Kindle). The boy’s never seen without a paperback. Reading is part-obsession, part comfort-blanket to him. Books, as they are for a lot of us, are his shield against the world.

Season 2 of young adult romance “Heartstopper” has arrived on Netflix, accompanied by a soundtrack filled with pop and rock. Adapted from Alice Oseman’s graphic novels, the new season continues the cute, queer, colorful and cartoon-embellished story.
Now that they are boyfriends, Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) and Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) face the nuanced challenges of Nick’s decision to come out to his family and friends. Elle Argent (Yasmin Finney) and Tao Xu (William Gao) fight their own butterflies. Tara Jones (Corinna Brown) and Darcy Olsson (Kizzy Edgell) are back with their relationship road bumps — and let’s not forget our favorite bookworm, Isaac Henderson (Tobie Donovan).
The first episode kicks off on a solid note with Maggie Rogers’ “Shatter” and Fitz and the Tantrums’ “Out of My League.” The 1975’s “The Sound” uplifts episode three after a stressful round of testing for the Year 11 students. Taylor Swift’s...

The Cure honored their most diehard fans last night at the New Orleans kickoff of their North American tour with the first performances of Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me’s “A Thousand Hours” and The Head on the Door’s “Six Different Ways” since 1987.
Frontman Robert Smith sang the vocal to “A Thousand Hours” with his arms outstretched, asking the audience, “For how much longer can I cry like this? … For how much longer can I howl into this wind?” as his bandmates played the song’s dreamy synth-and-guitar swirls around him.

The Cure kicked off their first North American tour in seven years with a show at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on Wednesday.
The Robert Smith-led band delivered a 29-song setlist that included several new songs presumably taken from their long-teased new album, Songs of a Lost World, including “Alone,” “And Nothing Is Forever,” “A Fragile Thing,” and “I Can Never Say Goodbye.” During the encore The Cure dusted off “A Thousand Hours,” from Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss, and “Six Different Ways” from The Head on the Door (neither song had been played since 1987).
See the evening’s full 29-song setlist and fan-captured performance footage below.
The North American leg of the “Songs of a Lost World Tour” runs through early July. The tour’s ticket on-sale has been quite the ordeal, but there are limited quantities still available via Ticketmaster.

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for The Last of Us, Season 1 Episode 8, “When We Are In Need.”]
HBO’s new series The Last of Us premiered to the approval of fans of the video game and viewers who are new to the franchise. Though the thrilling story has just begun, the first episode established the importance of the soundtrack in setting the mood for the post-apocalyptic world.
Created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann (the latter also wrote and directed the video game), The Last of Us stars Pedro Pascal as grizzled survivor Joel and Bella Ramsey as a teenage girl named Ellie. Taking place after a fungal plague has ravaged the globe, it centers around Joel fulfilling his task of smuggling Ellie beyond a quarantine zone in Boston.
Depeche Mode’s 1987 hit “Never Let Me Down Again” played a significant role during the series premiere. After Joel and his partner Tess (Anna Torv) set out for their journey with Ellie,...

This post contains spoilers for HBO's "The Last of Us" and the video game series of the same name.
While we weren't looking, pop music has become one of the main recurring motifs of "The Last of Us" over the last few years. Though the retro needle drop has become a large staple of modern pop culture, showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann are not just following trends. In the Fall chapter of the story, Joel (Pedro Pascal) admits to Ellie (Bella Ramsey) that he used to want to be a singer when he was a little boy. This would lead to the opening scene of the game's sequel, "The Last of Us Part II," in which Joel serenades Ellie with "Future Days" by Pearl Jam, a song that soon becomes the entire emotional throughline of the narrative, bookending Ellie's entire character journey.

Warning! This article contains spoilers for The Last of Us episode 7 and the original game. The Last of Us episode 7 has a very varied soundtrack, with each song being vital to the overall context of the franchise. The Last of Us episode 7 splits the focus between Ellie attempting to save Joel's life after the climactic cliffhanger of episode 6 and Ellie's backstory with Riley. Riley has been hinted at throughout the season thus far, with the story - and the songs present throughout - holding a lot of context in regard to Ellie's overall arc.
The Last of Us on HBO up to this point has relied heavily on music. The Last of Us episodes 3 and 4 were titled after songs from Linda Ronstadt and Hank Williams respectively and the ending radio song of The Last of Us episode 1 set the course of the show, which came back in a big way...

This Last of Us review contains spoilers.
The Last of Us Episode 7
“Left Behind” is an episode of The Last of Us that fans have been eagerly anticipating since the show was announced. Although the video game flashback to Ellie and Riley was released as bonus content in 2014, it’s considered to be essential to the game’s overall narrative, as it gives stirring insight into Ellie’s past that lends depth to her relationship with Joel.
The show includes Ellie’s backstory as a part of the main story and stays true to the game where it counts, though some moments are omitted and some new ones are added. We see one of the new scenes early on in the flashback, with Ellie getting into trouble as a Fedra trainee and getting pressured by Officer Kwong to clean up her act so that she can one day become an...
