In the second big prize announcement by a Directors’ Fortnight partner, “The Mountain” (“La Montagne”), from emerging French auteur Thomas Salvador, has won the Sacd Prize, awarded by France’s Writers’ Guild for the best French-language movie in the section.
The second feature of the French actor-director after 2017’s promising “Vincent,” selected for San Sebastian’s prestige New Directors section, ”The Mountain” is sold internationally by Le Pacte which will also handle distribution in France.
From a screenplay written by Salvador and Naila Guiguet, which was selected for Critics’ Weeks’ Next Steps 2020, “The Mountain” turns on Pierre, 40, played by Salvador, who makes a sales pitch for his company’s robotic arm in Chamonix, the capital of the French Alps.
When his colleagues return to Paris, he stays on, pitching a tent just below the Aiguille du Midi cable car station, a spectacular pinnacle at 12,600 feet, in the lap of Mont Blanc.

Tommy Dewey says technology has changed romance — and not always for the better. “I think you can sustain a relationship at a certain volume, so to speak, for a long time just by texting,” the costar of Hulu’s romantic comedy “Casual” told reporters Saturday at the Television Critics Association (TCA) Winter Press Tour in Pasadena. “You can be like, ‘Hey, love to see you soon,’ for like two years,” Dewey, formerly of “The Mindy Project” and CW’s “The Mountain,” added. “And it’s still quasi-romantic. Whereas prior to texting, you had to pick up the phone and have a real human.

Amber Heard, to put it simply, is one of the sexiest women alive. Born in Austin, Texas in 1986, the beautiful actress and model embarked on her career in 2004, with roles in television shows Jack & Bobby and The Mountain, as well as movie Friday Night Lights.
Now 28, she has recently been in the news after marrying Johnny Depp. The couple – between whom there is a 23 year age gap – met on the set of The Rum Diary in 2010, but didn’t start dating until 2012 (both of them were in different relationships when they first met) and tied the knot on 4th February of this year. Heard is actually bisexual and had a long term relationship with a woman (photographer Tasya van Ree) prior to her relationship with Depp.

Spring has arrived -- flowers and music in full bloom. Some of it only hints at what might be as summer approaches. Until then, here are few things I'm carting around in my wheelbarrow. Dig it.
"Spiderlegs" Danny Malone: Balloons (Dm)
Happy accident as I had no prior knowledge of Mr. Malone prior to listening to his new album, but no worries. Here's a wonderful folk-rock tune from this Austin-based singer/songwriter's second long-player. He recorded this set of confessional musings in a haunted 15th century castle in Denmark, each song in a different room. He calls his music "sexy, dirty, sad songs about the human condition." This remains my favorite track; and the video below is pretty bloody "sexy" too.
Alicia Keys at Prudential Center April 8, 2013, Newark, NJ

Mindy Kaling's got a new boyfriend -- well, on her Fox show "The Mindy Project" anyway. TV Line reports that "Step Up Revolution" actor Tommy Dewey is joining Kaling's series as a love interest for her character.
Dewey plays Josh Daniels, a successful lawyer who goes after what he wants -- in this case, Mindy. Wonder how he'll fit into the mold of Mindy's rom-com fantasies.
Dewey's past TV credits include guest roles on "Melissa & Joey," "CSI: Miami" and "Better with You" and stints on the short-lived "Roommates" and "The Mountain."
"The Mindy Project" premieres Sept. 25 at 9:30 p.m. on Fox.

Remember that short-lived WB series The Mountain? Remember Easy A and even the (please end now) series Gossip Girl that maybe a small amount of you are still watching? Well, say goodbye to what was Penn Badgley. His hair is officially taking over his face. Where's the clean cut Penn gone? Has he left with what was the Blake Lively days?
No one can deny that Penn is seemingly unrecognizable at this point. It's one thing to grow in some facial hair but would it be that difficult to own a razor? Maybe the girlfriend Zoe Kravitz enjoys the look but the rest of us just want our Dan Humphries back. (Yes, we will reference back to Gossip Girl if that means he will make a return.)
From Coachella to walking the streets of New York City, there's been too many photographs of Penn's new look taken already. But turn...

AMC’s been on roll with its original series for the past few years, and they intend to keep it going with railroad drama Hell on Wheels. The first teaser trailer for the new series was posted this week.
Hell on Wheels takes its name from the traveling work camps that helped expand railroads westward after the Civil War. Anti-hero and former Confederate Cullen Bohannon (Anson Mount) travels to such a camp under the guise of looking for work; in actuality, he’s searching for his wife’s killers.
Mount has been around the block a few times without landing a breakout role. He played Ada Steele on the short-lived Law & Order spinoff Conviction, as well as leads on the equally curtailed The Mountain and Line of Fire. One-off characters on Smallville, Lost and Click to continue reading AMC’s Western ‘Hell On Wheels’ Sneak Peek Trailer...

Think you had first day of school jitters?
Imagine for a moment you went to school with the likes of Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Chace Crawford and Ed Westwtick. Now imagine you had been reading about their lives everyday, on the cover of every magazine, for the better part of four years. With Gossip Girl on hiatus until April 18, speculation is already running rampant on which recently-absent characters will return to stir things up the Upper East Side.
Here's what TV Line's Michael Ausiello has to say about ...
Jenny: Surprise surprise, we'll have to wait and see. Executive producer Joshua Safran didn't go into more detail than that. Taylor Momsen is currently touring to support her new album, though she's scheduled to make a pit stop in NYC this week ...
Georgina: As we told you yesterday, via Michelle Trachtenberg, “Georgina is coming back later this season,” Safran reports. “We love Michelle. We love Georgina."
"We love coming up with new [schemes] for Georgina. If you’re a fan of [her previous stints], then this one will be very satisfying.” Look for a one-episode visit.

Yesterday we wrote that Wonder Woman was ready to go to pilot, the series put together by David E. Kelley, now might have a director for the pilot episode and that guy is McG. The director from the Charlie’s Angels films and Terminator Salvation is not new to TV pilots, having directed the Chuck and Fastlane pilots. He has also produced series like The O.C., The Mountain, Supernatural, Sorority Fever, Human Target and Nikita.
The news comes from TV Line whose sources say that “McG has emerged as the odds-on favorite to direct the pilot for NBC’s much-hyped Wonder Woman remake.”
I think he is a great choice, as he directs pilots very well, but also due to his history with action, female centered superhero stories. I think he is a great choice for the studio. It also helps that McG’s production company is based at Warner Bros.

Mandy Patinkin has been cast on Showtime's hour-long drama pilot "Homeland" as Saul, "a veteran CIA Division Chief," who is the boss and mentor of Claire Danes' character Carrie. This is Patinkin's first television appearance since starring on "Criminal Minds." He won an Emmy for his performance on "Chicago Hope." "Homeland" centers on an "American soldier taken prisoner during the invasion or Iraq in 2003. Left for dead, the soldier miraculously returns to the U.S. after years in captivity."
AMC announced they have green-lighted "Hell On Wheels," a series that focuses on a Confederate soldier on a quest to avenge his wife's death after the Civil War. His journey takes him west where he works on building the first transcontinental railroad. Anson Mount stars as the confederate soldier Cullen Bohannan. The network's senior vice president of original programming Joel Stillerman says, "We are thrilled to bring "Hell on Wheels" to series.

Amber Heard has spent the last few years solidifying her career in Hollywood and these days her name is often at the top of every casting director's list. The actress is wanted for her eye-catching looks, professionalism, and her keen acting abilities that have drawn much attention as of late. Although Ari Folman's "Waltz With Bashir" did not make the shortlist of 15 films under consideration for the best documentary Oscar, it is among the nominees for the DGA's doc award, announced Friday.
"Waltz" will compete with Gonzalo Arijon's "Stranded: I've Come From a Plane that Crashed on the Mountains," in which survivors of a 1972 Andes plane crash tell their story; Elizabeth Farnsworth and Patricio Lanfranco's "The Judge and the General," a look back at the investigation into the regime of Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet; Peter Gilbert & Stevie James' "At the Death House Door," an examination of the wrongful conviction of a Texas man executed for murder; and James Marsh's "Man on Wire," a study of tight-rope walker Philippe Petit.

Rookies 'Lost,' 'CSI: NY' sparkle
A visit from Dr. Phil and the highly anticipated premiere of CSI: NY sent CBS to the top of the Nielsen charts Wednesday, while ABC notched its best drama series premiere in nine years with the 8 p.m. bow of J.J. Abrams' Lost. NBC's Law & Order held up well against the CSI: NY launch, but the same could not be said of NBC's Hawaii, which was beaten in the adults 18-49 demo in the 8 p.m. hour not only by the heavily promoted Lost but also by the WB Network's fourth-season opener of Smallville. ABC's fortunes fell sharply at 9 p.m., however, with a weak turnout for the two-hour premiere of The Bachelor. The WB also saw its numbers take a dive at 9 p.m. with the debut of drama The Mountain. With all the high-powered premieres, UPN saw a lackluster turnout for the return of America's Next Top Model and 9 p.m. premiere of Veronica Mars.
