Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda is one of the most beloved franchises in gaming history. And when we heard that there’s a live-action movie being made, alarm bells started ringing. Video game adaptations have seen an upgrade in quality in the last few years, and the success of The Super Mario Bros. movie has inspired new projects like these.

With Wes Ball directing and Shigeru Miyamoto involved as a producer, expectations are high. However, history has shown that video game movies can easily go wrong. We still remember Far Cry and Tekken as painful reminders of how badly an adaptation can fail. To avoid the same fate, the Zelda movie needs to avoid these mistakes.

Far Cry 4 has been one of the standouts of Ubisoft’s game library over the last decade and is one of the most beloved titles of the franchise. But ten years later, it’s becoming clear that one of the game’s greatest strengths is something Ubisoft has struggled to replicate. We need to have morally ambiguous stories again.
The story had a lot of twists and turns. | Image Credit: Ubisoft
The power struggle between Amita and Sabal that we face is one of the most unsettling choices in gaming history. It’s really one of those situations where neither outcome feels like a victory. But what I’ve realised after all these years is that while Sabal’s rule is harsh, Amita’s vision for Kyrat is far more sinister. Her leadership doesn’t just bring progress, it brings oppression masked as revolution.

Many modern video game developers use their video games to highlight the problems in today’s society. 2018’s Far Cry 5 is one such game, which focuses on a radical religious cult that takes over a fictional Montana county. In the real world, people often claim that religious cults mostly consist of white people. However, the cult showcased in Far Cry 5 is multi-ethnic.

The director of the game once explained the studios’ approach to the fictional religious cult in the game. He explained that while growing up, he witnessed more cult groups that were all about “inclusion,” and that’s what Ubisoft was trying to achieve in the game.

Ubisoft seems to have shifted its focus from a Far Cry-based extraction shooter, codenamed Maverick, to the upcoming sequel Far Cry 7. Maverick was under development since 2023.

Maverick was earlier intended to be a part of Far Cry 7’s multiplayer mode, but since things were going so well with it during production, the developer decided to turn it into a stand-alone game; however, it is now being rebooted again.

In Helldivers 2, players are tasked with the glorious mission of defending Super Earth against a wide array of enemies. Each enemy faction requires different tactics, and while Automatons and Bugs are deadly in their own ways, the introduction of the Illuminate has radically shifted the battlefield.
Players have been really enjoying the game. | Image Credit: Arrowhead Game Studios
Not only is this enemy faction known for being intelligent, but they also use swarming tactics with expendable fodder and powerful ranged units to overwhelm players. What makes them annoying is their energy shields and massive health pools, making them formidable foes.
To defeat them, players need to carefully tailor their loadouts. Fortunately, Super Earth has a diverse arsenal of weapons, armor, and stratagems that allow players to stand their ground and spread democracy across the stars without any worry.

Helldivers 2 isn’t just a game, it’s a call to arms for all freedom-loving citizens of Super Earth. This cooperative, squad-based shooter throws you into a never-ending war against three major factions that want nothing more than to see democracy burn.
First, there are the Automatons, relentless robotic killing machines with an unhealthy obsession with making life miserable. Then, we have the Terminids, a swarm of hyper-aggressive alien bugs that believe the best defense is overwhelming offense. Finally, there’s the Illuminate, an advanced alien race with psionic abilities, teleportation tech, and mind-control tricks.

Each faction brings its own unique brand of chaos, forcing players to adapt, strategize, and, more often than not, die horribly. But while the Automatons have continued to evolve into even greater threats, the Illuminate have remained stagnant, making them the least fearsome of the bunch. And that’s a problem.

Helldivers 2 has been one of the best multiplayer games that has been released in 2024. The fast-paced combat, in addition to barraging missiles from the orbit, has made the game an invigorating experience. Fighting hordes of bug enemies while running for your life with your mates was the peak dopamine boost everyone needed last year.

The Like a Dragon series is one of the longest running Jrpg franchises and is known for its mix of serious crime drama and absurd, over-the-top minigames. With Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, that formula is very much present with minigames from managing a pirate crew to cooking, go-kart racing, and even tending a garden. But could it also be too much?
Not everyone can handle all the minigames. | Image Credit: Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio
Well, for longtime franchise fans, this is expected, even welcomed. But what if you’re a new player and this is your first Like a Dragon game? There’s a very real scenario where all the side content is too overwhelming. Minigames make the world feel rich and interactive, but it has to be balanced.

With about twelve different installments, five in the main series, and more spin-offs to enjoy, the Sniper Elite series has made a meal out of the timeless classic of Nazi hunting, and it’s done a killing doing it. The mechanics have gradually improved from the first game to the most recent, and there is something enjoyable in each of these entries.

Ghost of Tsushima is an open-world game that offers almost everything a player wants from a single-player title: stunning visuals, gripping combat, and a world that feels alive in a way few games can replicate. Director Uwe Boll has a reputation as one of the worst film directors of all time. In the mid-2000s, he helmed a string of well-publicized but critically savaged video game adaptations that immediately sunk to the bottom of cineastes' estimations. In 2003, he made "House of the Dead," and followed that in 2005 with both "Alone in the Dark" and "BloodRayne." He chased those with "In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale," "BloodRayne 2: Deliverance," and "Postal" all in 2007, and capped off his run in 2008 with "Far Cry." Fans of the games on which those films are based were incensed that Boll should so clumsily handle the source material, and fans of the cinematic medium were incensed that
Despite his critical reputation, Boll has remained prolific, sometimes helming multiple pictures a year. He directed "First Shift" and "Bandidos" in 2024, and is set to release "Run" in 2025.

The gaming industry has always been about pushing boundaries and innovating, but sometimes developers can lose sight of what makes their games special in the first place. Recent rumors about Far Cry 7 suggest that Ubisoft might be heading down this potentially problematic path.
Innovation is good, but at what cost to players? | Image Credit: Ubisoft
While the Far Cry series has faced criticism for becoming formulaic over the years, with each new entry following a predictable pattern of outpost liberation and charismatic villains, the latest reported changes might be swinging the pendulum too far in the opposite direction.
According to industry insider Tom Henderson, whose track record for accurate leaks is notably strong, Ubisoft is planning to implement a feature that has longtime fans of the series more than a little concerned: a timer that will fundamentally change how players experience the game.

In the genre of first-person shooters, the Far Cry franchise has established itself as a mainstay. This long-running series has regularly released games, DLCs, and spinoffs since 2004; Far Cry 6 was released in 2021. Far Cry 7, the franchise’s deserving successor, is also reportedly in works.

Far Cry has been one of the most iconic and enduring franchises of Ubisoft. However, despite its popularity, the series has never been hailed as a true masterpiece in the community’s eyes, even though it’s often critically lauded. Arguably one of the best titles in the series is its fourth installment (only behind its predecessor).

Ubisoft has not yet confirmed Far Cry 7. Prior reports indicate that the next game is being developed alongside a Far Cry multiplayer game, currently under development under the codename Maverick, which is an extraction-based shooter. Along with it, there is another title in the franchise that is reported to be in development, codenamed Blackbird, which is going to be the next mainline title.

However, no one knows when we will be getting some hints about these two titles, but all we know right now is that their release dates have been pushed back from 2025 to 2026, according to credible reports. This comes after the saddening shutdown of XDefiant, which failed to build a substantial player base. Not only it is pushing the release date, but the upcoming titles might also be pushing away the old Far Cry formulas as well.

Tom Hardy's name alone is often enough to drum up excitement for a project. He's starred in major blockbusters and small, scrappy indies, frequently playing characters that require some level of transformation from him. Though Bane in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises (2012) remains one of his iconic characters, he's also frequently played more heroic figures.
Hardy memorably took over from Mel Gibson as Max Rockatansky in Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), and he's now also widely known for his role as Eddie Brock/ Venom, recently saying farewell to that role with the release of Venom: The Last Dance (2024). Roy Haynes, the prolific and proficient jazz drummer who recorded alongside Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Ray Charles, and Sonny Rollins, has died at the age of 99.
Haynes’ daughter Leslie Haynes-Gilmore confirmed her father’s death Tuesday to the Guardian, adding he died following a short illness.
A cutting-edge pioneer in the genre — equally adept at swing and bebop, avant-garde, and fusion — Haynes appeared on countless jazz classics over a career that began in the early 1940s and didn’t wind down until the drummer was in his mid-nineties.

The Far Cry franchise has become synonymous with intense storytelling, captivating settings, and, most notably, memorable villains. Far Cry 3’s Vaas Montenegro set a high standard and is celebrated for his crude, unpredictable nature. Fans remember him as an unpredictable yet unforgettable antagonist.

When Far Cry 4 launched, fans were ready for another great villain. But instead of recreating Vaas’s raw intensity, the game’s director Alex Hutchinson, and his team took a different path. This led to the creation of Pagan Min, a villain designed not to mirror Vaas but to unsettle players through charisma, unpredictability, and subtle complexity.
Far Cry 4‘s Developers Wanted To Do Something New
Far Cry 3‘s success was partly due to Vaas’s chaotic energy, but Ubisoft Montreal wanted to create a sequel that honored its predecessor while standing on its own.

Ubisoft’s Far Cry 3 was a strong entry in the Far Cry franchise. The game was an overall success but the game’s story has been widely criticized for racism and colonialism. The writer, Jeffrey Yohalem, has always opposed the criticism, stating that players are missing some key points.
Far Cry 3 was released in 2012 (Image via Ubisoft)
In a past interview, Yohalem has talked about the game’s ending. At the end of Far Cry 3, players can either save Jason Brody’s friends or join Citra to become the tribe’s leader. The choice to join the tribe as a White man was a controversial topic back in the day, but Yohalem believes that it was “a satire of popularity” as players realize at the end of the game that the tribe was actually manipulating them all this time.

The Far Cry series is renowned for its stunning visuals and engaging gameplay, with Far Cry 3 often stated as the highlight of the franchise. The game is set on a lush, tropical island filled with danger, intrigue, and moral doubts. Players step into the shoes of Jason Brody, a young man stranded on the island, who needs to navigate the island full of mercenaries, pirates, and tribes in an attempt to rescue his friends.

Despite its acclaim success and widespread praise from the fans, some initially felt the game relied on racial stereotyping and depicted too much violence. However, Jeffrey Yohalem, the creative mind behind the game, directly addressed these controversies. In an interview, he argued that players often misinterpret the narrative’s intentions, failing to truly understand and engage with its deeper themes.

Bandai Namco is on the upswing, as its video games are simply loved globally. We got Gundam Breaker 4 and Sand Land this year. More of them are on the way, from Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero to Little Nightmares 3.
Then there’s Ubisoft, on the downswing, of course. Skull and Bones, Star Wars Outlaws, and more failed to make an impression on its fans. And its long-running franchises aren’t really working as well now either. Bandai Namco is clearly outshining here.

In a move that has sent shockwaves in the gaming industry, Ubisoft has reportedly shifted its focus from single-player games to specifically cater to two new major areas: Open-World Adventures and Games as a Service (GaaS). This decision shows that the company is taking a significant departure from the narratives and immersive experiences that once defined its success.

This decision is coming after the gaming giant faces mounting pressure, including various speculations about the company potentially going private in collaboration with Tencent, which is a major stakeholder with a keen interest in stabilizing the company, after the recent drops in its market value. However, the decision to ditch the single-player experiences for an Open World and GaaS games may prove to be another major miscalculation by the company.

Far Cry 7, rumored to release in 2025, has got a lot of fans talking over its alleged 72-hour in-game time limit. Traditionally, players have enjoyed the freedom to explore lush environments at their own pace, but the rumored 72-hour in-game timer could force players to prioritize missions.

While some fans worry this could disrupt the series’ core identity, there’s a chance that it might turn out to be a positive, if done well. Luckily for Ubisoft, Resident Evil (Re) is an excellent blueprint for making the time limit feature work in a game by introducing more strategic resource management into the gameplay.

France-based video game publisher Ubisoft acknowledged recent “press speculation” that its founders were in talks to sell the company.
Bloomberg News reported last week that the Guillemot family, which founded Ubisoft in 1986, was in talks with Tencent about a potential buyout. The parties reached a deal in 2022 that saw the Chinese tech giant gain a significant holding in the game maker.
“Ubisoft has noted recent press speculation regarding potential interests around the Company,” Ubisoft said in a statement. “It regularly reviews all its strategic options in the interest of its stakeholders and will inform the market if and when appropriate. The Company reiterates that management is currently focused on executing its strategy, centered on two core verticals – Open World Adventures and GaaS-native experiences.”
Asked by several media outlets to clarify whether it had participated in discussions, Ubisoft declined to comment.
While the video game sector overall continues to thrive, Ubisoft has hit a rough patch.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is around the corner. The highly anticipated title from Treyarch is going to be released on October 25, 2024. After the completion of the Modern Warfare trilogy, now it’s time for Cod to pick from where it left off in Call of Duty: Cold War.

Whenever a new Cod title surfaces in the market, nostalgia hits pretty hard. This franchise is one of those very few that made our childhood brighter. However, there is one unique feature that might kill the classic Call of Duty vibe. And that is why the developers might nerf it as soon as the game launches.

There are many differences and similarities between Star Wars Outlaws and the Star Wars Jedi series, but for the most part, the two games sit comfortably in their own niches, offering vastly different experiences but still remaining within the same vast interconnected universe. Much like the shows and films, they offer different experiences in terms of tone and characters. However, there is one Star Wars Jedi story detail that Outlaws would really benefit from, but unfortunately, it probably won't be able to replicate because of a fundamental issue.
Star Wars Outlaws reviewed well enough on its own that it doesn't really need to replicate the Jedi series or attempt to borrow any of its ideas. However, there's one thing that Star Wars Jedi can and is doing that Outlaws never can, which is a great shame not just for Ubisoft but for fans too. But, since this season picks up where the other left off, it seems Kody got a jump on damage control. Instead of using more condemning words, he’s playing nice in his latest interview.
Sister Wives: Kody Brown Follows Brutal with ‘Cute’
When Christine Brown decided to leave Kody Brown, he gave her a boatload of backlash. He suggested any man she would happen to find would be after the family’s money.
He also suggested that once she started dating, any prospective boyfriend would research her and probably watch a few episodes of Sister Wives. Then, Kody Brown suggested the guy would see how awful Christine treats Kody and back away.

Star Wars Outlaws may have surprised some players upon its launch when the open-world scoundrel fantasy turned out to be a lot more stealth-focused than they may have expected. Considering Kay Vess' past as a thief and the fact that the whole game seems to be building up to a major heist, the idea that she might have to spend a fair amount of time sneaking around places isn't exactly out of place, but some compulsory stealth sections have been the source of some controversy from some players.
The game's creative director, Julian Gerighty, recently spoke with Gamesradar+ about this, noting that these instant-fail stealth sections can be "incredibly punishing," citing one on Mirogana in the earlier section of the game, in particular. After looking at some of the recent player data, Gerighty noted that the difficulty may have been "a mistake" and stated that Massive Entertainment is looking to improve this.

Video games have had their fair share of infamous villains, from Far Cry's absolutely terrifying Vaas Montenegro to the constantly outwitted Dr Robotnik from Sonic the Hedgehog. It's important that every video game with a villain gets it right, as an adventure is only as compelling as its primary antagonist. Fortunately, while there have been a few duds here and there, for the most part, there are some truly iconic and memorable baddies throughout video game history.
Naturally, the list is incredibly long and not every villain will earn a spot. So, while iconic villains like General Shepherd, Ridley, Pyramid Head, and the ever irresistible Lady Dimitrescu from Resident Evil 8 might not make the cut, they're absolutely worth mentioning. Fortunately, those that are considered the very best villains in all gaming absolutely deserve their spot.

Star Wars Outlaws has made a brand out of being the first open-world Star Wars game, but despite that claim, it's an experience that's familiar in many ways. Even setting aside the saturation of Star Wars content since Disney's acquisition of IP, every big new game from publisher Ubisoft carries over some formulaic elements, whether in the consistent monotony of the Far Cry series or simply in fundamentals of structure. It's not exclusive to Ubisoft a lot of companies have taken on similar formulas but it's hard to deny how obvious the through line is.
I'm not fundamentally opposed to the average Ubisoft game, and I have a significant fondness for some, like a number of Assassin's Creed entries. Over the past decade or so, however, I've had one big point of frustration with the Ubisoft approach that recurs game after game. Troy Baker is one of the most renowned voice actors in the industry. Starting with BloodRayne 2, the man has given voice to some of the most iconic characters in gaming. Among his massive portfolio, though, his more antagonistic roles are a real standout.

For instance, his work on Pagan Min in Far Cry 4 is up there as one of the best in that series, especially considering how the character feels tailor-made for Baker to voice. Surprisingly enough, the circumstances surrounding him getting the role are about as insane as one might expect from anything Far Cry-related.

When it comes to games developed by Ubisoft, they’ve gotten into a pattern of featuring remarkably similar open-world maps that are just unique enough to be successful. Still, though, the publisher has given us iconic franchises like Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Splinter Cell.
Unfortunately, there appears to be growing pain in the studio’s formula as gamers have grown tired of it. This has taken a direct hit on Ubisoft’s stock price and is a major concern for the publisher going forward.
Ubisoft Stocks Continue to Dip, and Gamers Have Lost Hope
It’s fair to say that the last couple of years haven’t been really kind to Ubisoft. Even though the publisher tried to bring major entries in its Assassin’s Creed franchise and even new games such as Skull and Bones, they’ve all clearly failed, and gamers have lost their hope for the company.

It would be an understatement to say that fans already have mixed feelings towards Black Ops 6. While it seems to be doing many things right, some updates regarding the game have become a point of concern for fans.

Featuring elements of several popular Ubisoft titles such as Far Cry and Watch Dogs, XDefiant is a brand-new free-to-play arena shooter that pits teams of six against each other in a variety of game modes.
