Animal Crossing: New Horizons, despite being the best-selling Animal Crossing game of all time, still lacks major characters and features from previous games in the series. Among those missing features is Katie, an adorable special cat villager who always needs help reuniting with her Mother Kaitlin. Katie has been such a staple of the series that she has even appeared in numerous Super Smash Bros. titles, most recently as a spirit alongside her mother in Ultimate.
Katie is one of the cutest special villagers in the series, with her adorable brown bangs, rosy cheeks, and blue denim dress. While she initially began as a crying child, Katie grew up in between games to become an independent traveler who enjoys visiting new towns. Despite New Horizons almost completely ignoring her existence, the next Animal Crossing game should add Katie back, especially as a full-time villager.

The Animal Crossing franchise has always held an important place in my heart, with Wild World on the Nintendo DS being my introduction to it. The idea of life sims has always appealed to me, largely because it's fun to escape from my own life, and Animal Crossing, up until Stardew Valley dropped, was the poster child for the genre. It absolutely embodies that cozy feeling players have been chasing, that warm welcome that no other game really gives, that peaceful complacency that makes everything feel like if only for a moment, it'll be okay.
As I've gotten older, my relationship with video games has changed. Importantly, I used to love settling down and whiling away the hours in The Roost in Wild World, but now it has begun to feel like cozy games have lost their effect on me. This became more true when I first played Animal Crossing: New Horizons,...

Animal Crossing: New Horizons players who haven't managed to have a coffee with their favorite villagers should check out this cheat sheet which helps optimize one's visits to The Roost. One of the most popular aspects of the beloved franchise, Brewster's coffee shop is a place for everyone to leave their worries at the door and have a refreshing warm beverage while talking with the locals. It's not especially deep in a mechanical sense but it's beloved by the community for allowing NPCs a chance to share more about their private lives.
Posted to Reddit, user diannethegeek shared an excellent cheat sheet that explains when players can expect special NPCs to arrive at The Roost.

Martin Scorsese is a longtime fan of indie filmmaker Ti West.
Scorsese penned a letter to the New York Times to applaud West’s “X” trilogy which recently concluded with “MaXXXine.” Mia Goth starred in all three films as both characters Maxine and Pearl, with each feature taking place in a different decade. West deployed the popular aesthetics for each respective era for the trio of films, as Scorsese explains.
According to the Oscar-winning filmmaker, West’s “X” films all embody a “different type of horror, related to different eras in American moviemaking.”
The first feature “X” is “the ’70s, the slasher era,” as Scorsese wrote. Meanwhile, prequel “Pearl” showcases the “’50s melodrama in vivid saturated color,” while “MaXXXine” captured the “’80s Hollywood, rancid, desperate” onscreen.
The films are “three linked stories set within three different moments in movie culture, reflecting back on the greater culture,” as Scorsese penned.

In the article series Sound and Vision we take a look at music videos from notable directors. This week: Justin Timberlake's No Angels, directed by Ti West. Ti West is obsessed with several themes, among them hedonism and the hive-mind of cults. In films as diverse as House of the Devil, The Roost and especially The Sacrament he has explored the nature of cultish behavior. From devil-worshippers (in a Satanic Panic send-up) in House of the Devil, to a Jonestown situation in The Sacrament. According to those who have seen it, MaXXXine, the final chapter in his X-trilogy, also returns to this well. Likewise, in films like the X-trilogy, House of the Devil ,but also an earlier (disowned) film like Cabin Fever 2 , he...

Writer/director Ti West has been one of horror’s most compelling, original voices since his 2005 debut “The Roost,” but with his last three movies, his filmmaking skills have risen to a whole new level. He had taken a six-year break from features when he released “X” in 2022, but the movie was well worth the wait; the 1970s-set story of an adult film cast and crew who find themselves under siege by a murderous couple, “X” was daring, scary, and funny — it was also immaculately crafted, with a precision and purposefulness in the framing and lensing that elevated it above most of the exploitation films from which it took inspiration. West shot “X” back-to-back with its prequel “Pearl,” an even more meticulously designed — and completely different in tone and style — period piece, this one an origin story for one of the first film’s killers set in 1918.

Fans want the return of misunderstood Animal Crossing character Phyllis, finding her relatable now. Many players miss removed villagers like Phyllis, calling for more realistic Island flow in the game. Restarting an Animal Crossing island can be tough but necessary for players looking for a new challenge.
After many years, fans of the Animal Crossing series are finally figuring out why one of the most hated characters is relatable now. Villagers in Animal Crossing have a tendency to be a polarizing topic, with some garnering an interesting reputation because of their looks and others being immediate favorites. Though it's not often that everyone agrees about whom the worst villager or Npc is, there are some that are universally disliked. However, more fans are realizing that some removed Animal Crossing villagers were just misunderstood at the time.

MrBeast is reportedly ending his exclusive relationship with management company Night.
Two people familiar with the matter told Semafor that “in recent days,” MrBeast–aka Jimmy Donaldson–told Night it will no longer be his primary manager. He will apparently still remain with Night in some capacity, but will shift some aspects of his business to other management companies in the creator industry.
We reached out to Night for comment on the veracity of the report, but haven’t heard back. Night told Semafor it expects to have an ongoing relationship with Donaldson, if not an exclusive one.
Donaldson began working with Night founder/CEO Reed Duchscher in February 2018, and announced his official signing with Night in January 2019. According to Semafor‘s sources, the split is caused by friction stemming from Duchscher’s refusal to move Night operations from its headquarters in Austin to Donaldson’s hometown of Greenville, North Carolina,...

Larry Fessenden is back with new werewolf horror movie Blackout, which is Now Available on Digital/VOD at home courtesy of Dark Sky Films.
Blackout is the third film in Fessenden’s monster trilogy, following Habit (vampires) and Depraved (Frankenstein). Watch a clip below for a sneak peek at his latest monster!
The film follows small town artist Charley (Alex Hurt), a tortured man whose drinking binges blur with his sneaking suspicion that he might likely be a werewolf. He distances himself from those he loves and sinks deeper into solitude, his flashes of memory of his nighttime grisly acts manifested through his artwork.
Fessenden tells us, “I am interested in finding new truths in the classic monster tropes of my youth. The essence of each creature dictates the milieu of the film, and of course, the werewolf is both out of control and regretful so that duality shaped my story.

Ti West has been churning out grisly indie horror films for almost two decades, starting with “The Roost” before his breakout satanic panic thriller “The House of the Devil” in 2009. But his recent collaboration with A24 on porn-set slasher “X,” campy gothic follow-up “Pearl,” and trilogy-ender “MaXXXine” has spawned an entirely singular Ti West Cinematic Universe: a cause for celebration in a Hollywood, where such franchises too often seem to cannibalize each other with spinning-out-of-control mythologies and winking and self-referential fan-baiting.
So it’s interesting that, for the director of movies like “Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever” and the Jonestown-inspired mockumentary “The Sacrament,” the great films of horror history annals largely don’t strike him as the best the medium has to offer. At least, that’s according to his ballot for BFI’s 2022 Sight & Sound filmmakers poll of the greatest movies of all time. There’s no “Texas Chain Saw Massacre” or “Halloween” here,...

Yellow Veil Pictures announced today they have boarded world sales on Blackout, Larry Fessenden’s werewolf horror film that’s currently in post-production, and have released the first teaser poster. The film wrapped principal photography in the fall in New York’s Hudson Valley and will hit the festival circuit later this year.
Blackout marks the second pairing of Glass Eye Pix, the New York production shingle headed by Fessenden, and Yellow Veil Pictures, having previously collaborated successfully on world sales for Fessenden’s 2019 Depraved, which was released by IFC Midnight in the US to great acclaim.
The film follows a fine-arts painter convinced he is a werewolf wreaking havoc on a small American town every full moon. It is the latest addition to Fessenden’s own Monsterverse, along with his breakout feature, the vampire-themed Independent Spirit Award-Winning feature Habit (1995) and 2019’s Frankenstein riff, Depraved.

As part of the deal, The Roost will have the exclusive ad sales and merchandise rights to the podcast. Mandel and Schultz first launched the show in 2020 during the pandemic and have featured interviews with guests like Terry Crews, Tony Hawk, John Stamos and Sarah Silverman.

Back in 2005, Ti West first appeared on the scene with an odd little horror film called "The Roost" featuring killer bats, the reanimated dead, and Tom Noonan as a horror host. His follow up, the thrilling "Trigger Man," flew by viewers and went mostly underseen, but when West released "The House of the Devil" in 2009, he established himself as one of horror's most exciting new voices. In the years that followed, West put out a slew of horror films, like "Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever," "The Innkeepers," "The Sacrament," as well as contributing segments to "V/H/S" and "The ABCs of Death." Diehard horror movie fans of the past 15-odd years may have started wondering what happened to Ti West. The meticulous genre filmmaker blended exacting formalism with shock and terror across a range of unnerving experiences: Everything from “The Roost” to “Trigger Man,” or “The House of the Devil” to “The Innkeepers,” had their fans, but no two movies were alike. Then, after the strange curveball of his zany Western “In the Valley of the Violence,” West stopped directing movies six years ago.
The intermission comes to a jolting finale with “X,” West’s A24-produced midnight movie that makes up for missed time. The ‘70s-set story follows a ragtag group of pornographic filmmakers and their cast as they head to a remote farmhouse to shoot their latest project, only to find themselves at the mercy of a psychotic older couple. It’s been almost a decade since Ti West last helmed a feature-length horror movie, which makes his return to the SXSW Film Festival in 2022 special. It was at the same fest that he premiered his first film in the genre, The Roost, in 2005, launching what would be a string of seven chillers that included more than a few cult classics: The House of the Devil (2009), The Innkeepers (2011), V/H/S (2012). But nine years is a long time to be out of a game. And in that interim, horror has changed and changed again, earning more critical acclaim with the rise of so-called “elevated horror” (a term West eschews) and more mainstream haunted house thrills.
Yet when we sit down with West, as well as actors Brittany Snow and Martin Henderson, to discuss their new film, X, West has a small bone to pick with the shape of modern horror movies.

Rooster Teeth’s The Roost podcast network has added its latest series, The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of, which will center around the impressive Hollywood prop collections of its two hosts.
The Stuff is headlined by Hollywood luminaries David Mandel -- the former showrunner for Veep and a writer, producer, and director on Seinfeld -- and Ryan Condal, who will serve as a showrunner on HBO’s forthcoming Game Of Thrones prequel series House Of The Dragon. The Roost’s newly-tapped head exec A.J. Feliciano will lead development on the podcast, and the studio will oversee ad sales and distribution across Apple, Spotify, RoosterTeeth.com, and more.
Bowing Oct. 22, The Stuff will see Mandel and Condal discussing their own experiences on set while also sharing the anecdotes behind the props, costumes, art, and other on-set treasures that they’ve accumulated throughout their collective 35 years in show business. Over a total of 12 episodes,...

The Last Podcast on the Left currently boasts more than one million weekly downloads, and has been delving into the dark side since 2011, covering a wide range of topics including (but very much not limited to) serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, the mass suicide at Jonestown, ghost cats of the South, Satanism, and spectrophilia. [Since In A Valley of Violence is in theaters and on VOD this weekend, we're re-running our interview with writer-director Ti West from its SXSW premiere.] Ti West is seen as a horror guy. That's just what happens when you make movies like The Roost, The Innkeepers and The House of the Devil. Even his 2013 movie The Sacrament, about a team of journalists probing a cult, often gets called a horror movie even though that's not strictly the case. So you might think that his new movie, In a Valley of Violence, is a horror movie. It's not. In a Valley of Violence, starring Ethan Hawke as a drifter who crosses some unsavory figures in a small town run by a reluctant marshal (John Travolta), is a western through and through. That said, one of the things that makes it...

Marking his first stab at the Western after years in the horror trenches, director Ti West’s “In A Valley of Violence” uses every second to display its reverence for the genre. Like the Coens’ “True Grit” before it, the film is a classic revenge tale with a smirk — the type of Western where haggard men trade quips during gunfights, and Ethan Hawke is called upon to deliver his best vengeful gunslinger of few words. West and his cast, which also includes James Ransone, Taissa Farmiga, Karen Gillan and John Travolta, occasionally hit upon a bum note in its theatrical tone, but overall this Jason Blum-produced throwback makes for West’s most crowdpleasing effort yet. The genre swing couldn’t come at a better time for West: since his debut “The Roost” and breakout hit “The House of the Devil,” the director has curated a slow-burn approach to horror...

As far as personal histories with a film go, Ti West’s The House of the Devil is one of the more transformative and memorable of mine. I first watched the film one night after hearing some chatter about it on the internet, and to be honest I didn’t really like it too much the first viewing. I found it to be quite boring save for the last 15 minutes that descended into truly nightmarish horror. Months went by, but I still couldn’t stop thinking about that film, so I rewatched it with a friend, and so begin my road to understanding how brilliant it is. A few years later it’s one of my favorite horror films (I even presented a paper on it at a conference), I rewatch it every Halloween.

Ti West is a divisive filmmaker. It is hard to gauge the general consensus with his films, because like Eli Roth and Rob Zombie, there are groups of people that go out of their way to nitpick, and bash everything he is attached to. I know different people like different things, and if somebody can give me a valid reason why The House of the Devil or The Innkeepers is legitimately their least-favorite film, I will accept it and agree to disagree. What I can’t abide, however, is people scrutinizing certain filmmakers by the way of impossible standards, that they hold almost no other filmmakers to. If you argue to me, that you can’t stand slow-burning films, where the payoff may or may not fit your description of “worth the wait” then we can have a conversation. But if you’re complaining about aspects of a film/filmmaker...

The "Ti West Style" is one of indie horror's greatest myths. The lethargic pacing, the articulate compositions, the fury of rupturing tension in the final act — these are certainly traits of a Ti West film, but they're details of his style, not its essence. West is a clever, self-aware filmmaker who makes movies laced with subtle but confident in-jokes for discerning viewers. He wears his influences like merit badges on a sash: Tom Noonan's ham-chomping turn as a gothic, Peter Vincent-like television host sets the tone nicely for West's debut "The Roost," which is replete with old-school horror radio dramas that pour from static-addled car radios, and smart-ass kids who look at creepy barns and say, "No way, man." In "The Innkeepers," West sits us down in front of a laptop as we watch an empty rocking chair, waiting for something to happen — and waiting, and waiting, when...

Writer and director Ti West talks to us about his new film The Sacrament, his forthcoming western, documentary-style horror, and more...
Interview
Nb: The following contains mild spoilers for The Sacrament.
Writer and director Ti West has long taken an individual approach to horror, with such films as The House Of The Devil (2009) and The Innkeepers (2011) emphasising tension, character and atmosphere over constant shocks.
West's latest film, The Sacrament, is similarly measured, and its air of slowly building dread makes its pay-off all the more powerful. In it, Vice Magazine journalist, Sam (Aj Bowen), his cameraman Jake (Joe Swanberg) and photographer Patrick (Kentucker Audley) decide to cover the story of a remote and secretive commune located in South Africa. Presided over by a charismatic leader (Gene Jones), all seems peaceful and idyllic in this tiny community - until Sam and his friends begin to realise that something far murkier is going on beneath the surface.

Will piracy every go away? Probably not. But the industry is still fighting it every way they can. The way to win the battle, however, is to appeal to the audience's demands and to answer their questions - about why it's so hard to see a film, why they should not just pirate it and wait, and why/how a $10 movie ticket goes a long way in supporting the industry. Horror filmmaker Ti West (The Roost, The House of the Devil, The Innkeepers) has taken a stand, writing updated notes this week surrounding the release of his latest, the cult thriller The Sacrament, which just hit VOD ahead of a theatrical release. He writes very smart replies to tough questions with good explanations behind why there's not much they can do about all these problems. The full note is a must read and can be found on Ti West's site at glasseyepix.

He wears his influences like merit badges on a sash: Tom Noonan's ham-chomping turn as a gothic, Peter Vincent-like television host sets the tone nicely for West's debut "The Roost," which is replete with old-school horror radio dramas that pour from static-addled car radios, and smart-ass kids who look at creepy barns and say, "No way, man." In "The Innkeepers," West sits us down...

"Pollywogs," the semi-autobiographical improvisational comedy that premiered at last year's Los Angeles Film Festival, is being released by Godigital beginning today on various VOD platforms, including Amazon Instant Video, Google Play, iTunes, PlayStation and Xbox. But there's one scene from the film that you can only see here -- because it was cut from the final version of the film. "Pollywogs" marks actor ("The Roost," "Young American Bodies") and producer ("Happy New Year") Karl Jacob's directorial debut (he co-directed with T. Arthur Cottam). Jacob also wrote the film and plays the lead character, Dylan, who, on the heels of a bitter breakup, returns home to Minnesota for a family reunion where he runs into his childhood sweetheart, Sarah (Kate Lyn Sheil, soon to be seen in season two of "House of Cards"). The deleted scene features "Girls" actor Alex Karpovsky as Dylan's friend who recently embraced his Judaism. Jacob...

Nobody does nostalgia-brushed spookiness and minimalist horror like independent director Ti West, King of the slow-burn shocker. FrightFest has been there from the very start – our video label released his 2005 debut feature The Roost – and we’ve watched with pride as the Delaware-born quirky talent has grown in global genre stature through The House Of The Devil, The Innkeepers, V/H/S and now his game-changing Eli Roth produced The Sacrament.

You think you know what to expect from Ti West by now. Like many horror movie nutcases, you saw The Innkeepers and/or House of the Devil, and maybe you went back and dug up The Roost and Trigger Man. Hell, you could have even given Cabin Fever 2 a fair shot. (Big mistake.) But if you think you know all of Ti West's tricks, well, prepare to be pleasantly surprised -- because the man's latest indie chiller may just be his darkest, deepest, and freakiest feature so far. It's called The Sacrament, it's one of those new-fangled "found footage" presentations, and it's another shining example of how you can cook up a truly haunting piece of horror with only a handful of cameras, a few good actors, a realistically creepy premise, and some subtle but obvious craftsmanship behind the camera.

Director Adam Wingard has received rave reviews for his R-rated, home invasion horror-comedy You’re Next, which screened at several film festivals over the past couple of years and will be released August 23. But his often gore-drenched creative sensibility — and twisted sense of humor — is not everyone’s cup of Darjeeling. In the spring of 2007, for instance, the then just the 24-year-old Wingard appeared on the premiere episode of Fox TV’s On The Lot, a much-hyped but now little-remembered, Steven Spielberg-produced filmmakers’ competition with the first prize of a million-dollar development deal at Dreamworks. As Wingard recalls, he...

Each year horror fans are treated to some memorable and some horrifically bad films that either quench our appetites for shocks and scares or make us run for the exits of the theater. It’s no surprise that 2012 was any different. Although we had to suffer through such painful features as Silent Hill: Revelation, Paranormal Activity 4, and Chernobyl Diaries, at least we were given such terrifying treasures as Sinister, Silent House, and everyone’s favorite horror film of the year Cabin in the Woods. Unfortunately, there are so many independent horror films that get missed each year due to their lack of a wide release or only getting a DVD/Blu-ray release. We have all seen our fair share of direct-to-video crap, but there are always a few each year that stand apart from the rest. Just because it doesn’t have any major actors in it or...

Simon Barrett offered V/H/S fans a glimpse at an alternate ending of the film recently in the form of a still, and we have it for you right here. Check it out along with an explanation of why it didn't fit and was cut. Dig it!
Barrett, who penned both the wrap, “Tape 56,” and Joe Swanberg’s “The Strange Thing That Happened to Emily When She Was Younger,” shared this: “For your confusion/indifference, here is a still image from a deleted scene we shot for V/H/S. It will Not be on the DVD, etc. The photo looks cool, but the scene ultimately didn’t fit the film.”
