For whatever reason, Hollywood doesn't produce movies like "Legally Blonde" anymore. Brightly colored, fun, and undeniably optimistic, this Reese Witherspoon comedy succinctly captures the zeitgeist of the early 2000s, and it now serves as a time capsule to a more innocent time when it felt possible for a fashion merchandising student to usurp the Harvard snobs and become a full-fledged lawyer. Truly, director Robert Luketic's upbeat tone, to say nothing of Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith's snappy script, is a key reason for the film's enduring success -- it's the perfect underdog tale, featuring a likable character worth rooting for and an uplifting message about staying true to yourself and persevering in the face of adversity.
"Legally Blonde" earned solid reviews from critics, earned a pair of Golden Globe nominations, including one for Witherspoon, made a killing at the box office, led to two sequels (and counting), and even spawned a musical.

Pop icon Robbie Williams, known for his flamboyant stage presence and chart-topping hits, recently opened up about a humbling experience during the making of his biopic, “Better Man.”
In an exclusive interview with Collider, Williams revealed a clash of creative visions with director Michael Gracey over the film’s soundtrack. Initially, Williams, eager to showcase his musical prowess, championed a selection of high-energy, “banger” tracks.
Flamboyant Pop Star Robbie Williams Learning Humility Through Biopic Better Man
“I was sending these songs over, like, ‘That’s a banger. That’s a banger. You are wrong,'” Williams recounted, recalling his initial conviction. He even drew inspiration from Eminem’s experience with the “8 Mile” soundtrack, where the rapper reportedly insisted on using “Lose Yourself” despite initial reservations from the director.
However, as Williams later discovered, his initial instincts were misguided. “Then I saw the finished version, and I was like, ‘I...

This week saw the 15th anniversary of the death of Brittany Murphy, and one of her co-stars took the occasion to remember her fondly.
Murphy died on December 20, 2009, and Katie O’Grady, who worked alongside her on her final film Something Wicked, described Murphy as being like “a little bird you wanted to be around and you wanted to help.”
O’Grady told People magazine that Murphy’s cast and crew were all concerned and mindful of Murphy’s physical and mental condition, and tried to be “soft” with her while on set. O’Grady recalled the late actress looking “frail” and noticeably “going through a hard time” while filming the movie.
And O’Grady told the magazine of Murphy: “She made moments and she created moments with everybody that she met to the best of her ability that she could with the energy that she had.”

Some heavy hitters are leaving Netflix at the end of the month. Jaws, 8 Mile, The Deer Hunter, and Psycho all sign off on December 31. That’s a combined nine Oscars and 18 nominations. If you haven’t seen any of them, I’d suggest you get them on your list Asap.
Jaws is simply one of the greatest American action films ever made. Many critics don’t even bother with the “one of the best” when referring to Psycho. It is often considered the very best American horror. 8 Mile is a standout musical biopic, unsurpassed in the world of hip-hop. And The Deer Hunter, though difficult, controversial, and ever so slightly dated by now, was still a vital Vietnam War movie that took Best Picture for 1978.
But there are also some minor gems saying goodbye. So, if you’ve already seen the above-mentioned titles, or if the prospect of...

The '90s was a complicated time to be a TV teen. While the kids of "Beverly Hills, 90210" and "Melrose Place" were entrenched in constant scandalous teen drama, a gentler, more family-friendly version of teen life was drawing in audiences on ABC. "Boy Meets World" ran for an impressive 158 episodes, from 1993 to 2000, and remains a pop cultural touchstone — albeit not quite as potent of one as its cattier primetime counterparts — to this day.
Like every memorable sitcom, "Boy Meets World" knew how to pick a guest star, and several of the actors who showed up across its seven-season run went on to be pretty dang famous. In a few cases, people who were already big-name actors at the time also dropped in on the kids of John Adams High. If you watched the show at a young age, though, you'd be forgiven for not recognizing the industry veterans and...

U.S. actor Omar Benson Miller who is known for roles in “8 Mile,” HBO’s Ballers, and Apple’s “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey,” stars in Italian immigration-themed drama “Naples to York” by Oscar-winning director Gabriele Salvatores that is having its festival premiere at Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Film Festival.
Interestingly, Federico Fellini co-wrote this tale of two Neapolitan kids who embark on a ship to New York to escape Italy’s early postwar poverty with his frequent collaborator Tullio Pinelli, a writer on the Italian maestro’s “La Dolce Vita” and “8 1/2,” as well as other titles.
In the film Benson Miller plays the ship’s cook who, during their travels, takes the kids under his wing.

The impact Eminem’s “8 Mile” had seem to still sent ripples in the movie industry, with this time, a similar story being transferred in Japan through the titular school teacher. In the end, however, and despite some similarities, “Yukiko A.K.A” is actually quite different.
Yukiko A.K.A is screening at Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival
Yukiko, a 29-year-old elementary school teacher in Tokyo, lives a rather normal life, dealing with her students and retaining a relationship with a fellow teacher. However, she is also disgruntled with her life, particularly when she realizes that she is not one among the favorite teachers in the school, while her relationship is not as fulfilling as she expects. As such, she channels her frustration in hip-hop, rapping at nights in a park along with some similar-minded friends. When she loses miserably in a rap fight, however, she realizes that she needs to make a change.

Eminem, one of the most iconic names in the music industry, has had a life filled with both extraordinary success and deeply personal challenges. Sad news out of the music world today, as Eminem’s mother, Debbie Nelson, has passed away at the age of 69.
The rapper’s strained relationship with Debbie inspired several of his songs and some of the more harrowing scenes in his 2002 biographical film 8 Mile.
But the relationship between mother and son improved in recent years, and Debbie publicly congratulated Em on his induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.

"The Simpsons" surely has one the most impressive lists of guest stars in all of TV history. Everyone from Michael Jackson to Elizabeth Taylor have appeared on the long-running series, which quickly became a cultural institution capable of attracting seemingly any public figure from any sphere of life.
Celebrities agreed to appear on "The Simpsons" with little hesitation, but the show has also hosted musicians, authors, politicians, and even prominent scientists such as Stephen Hawking. Often, as was the case with Hawking, these guest appearances make for some of the show's best moments, with the late physicist managing to get into a physical altercation with Principal Skinner before revealing his chair comes with a propeller that allows him to airlift himself out of danger.
But with "The Simpsons" now having run for 36 seasons, you're bound to have some duds among the plentiful cameos. With that in mind, here are the...

Did You Know Eminem Was The First Choice To Play Brian O’Connor’s Role In Fast and the Furious? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
When it comes to best action franchises, few made a significant impact as The Fast and the Furious. What began as a film about car street racing quickly evolved into a saga of high-stakes espionage and extraordinary feats. As the franchise garnered immense popularity, the late actor Paul Walker became synonymous with protagonist Brian O’Connor. However, reports later revealed that rap legend Eminem was initially considered for the role.

For the past few weeks, I have been watching stuff that is intentionally and confidently convoluted in an attempt to make it seem like the story is complex, even though it’s clearly not. It’s not like I am voluntarily picking out these projects. They’re all chosen randomly so that they can be covered during the week of their release. And despite the unmethodical nature of the choices, if a pattern shows up, then I think it’s a trend. Joker: Folie à Deux seemed like an ending explainer for the previous movie, but it alternated between what’s real and what’s not in the dumbest fashion imaginable. Teacup was like a wannabe From, which itself was a confounding trip. The Last Night at Tremore Beach was infuriating and baffling. The Man Who Loved UFOs, despite being a biography, was a whole lot of nothing. Then there was Caddo Lake,...

Speculation has run rampant following the appearance of a supposed 8 Mile sequel movie poster online.
8 Mile was originally released in theaters in 2002, telling the true-to-life story of rapper Marshall "Eminem" Mathers (named Jimmy Smith Jr./B-Rabbit in the film) as he navigates his dreams of being a professional musician while dealing with a life of poverty in inner-city Detroit.
While the film ends just before Mathers' character gets his big break, that first bit of exposure shown in the musical drama was just the beginning for the real-life rapper. Eminem has gone on to sell millions of records, even supplying music for hit movies like the Venom franchise.

The Belfast rappers’ riotous semi-biopic adds an Irish-language twist to a sub-genre that ranges from 8 Mile and Straight Outta Compton to Patti Cake$
The list of hip-hop acts who have starred in their own biopic is a short one, and it has perhaps its unlikeliest entry in Kneecap. The spiky Belfast trio’s pro-republican protest rap – much of it pointedly in the Irish language – has made them cult figures on home turf, and comedian turned film-maker Rich Peppiatt’s ebullient film, simply titled Kneecap, aims to do the same internationally. Avoiding a lot of self-important biographical tropes as it depicts their scrappy rise to fame and lays out their blunt political principles, it could easily be mistaken for fiction, with its knockabout tone and heightened comedy, though that just helps it as a mythmaking exercise. As in much of rap culture, being a little larger than life is the point.

‘The Serena Variations’ Review: Ambition, Drugs, & Music Clash In Warren Fischer’s Trippy Short Film
When it comes to music and what it takes to become a successful musician, the mind always goes to biopics. Don’t get me wrong; there are some good musical biopics out there, e.g., Rocketman, Elvis, 8 Mile, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and Chamkila. But since those stories are so focused on their subject matter, they seemingly forget to talk about the art of making music or how relatable the journey of a musician can be for a person who has never hit a right note in their life. And that’s why I find myself gravitating towards fictional stories to learn about the nuances of creating music and how it shapes the character of an artist. For starters, Whiplash and Sound of Metal go beyond talking about how to play drums. Inside Llewyn Davis shows how talent doesn’t always translate into success, and it has some...

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s 49th birthday was three days ago, but he’s still in a celebratory mood.
If there was any question as “Fiddy” nears 50 whether he’s still at the top of his game, the answer arrives with him at the photo shoot for this story: The rapper turned mogul brings $3.5 million in cold hard cash, most of it stuffed into two heavy black suitcases. Some is assembled into a square stool that he sits on while smoking a cigar. Every now and then, as he poses for photos, he digs into the stash and adds a few more stacks to the table beside him — as those on set watch in awe, including the four security guards Jackson arrived with. The doors are locked shut, and the window shades are closed for maximum privacy.
Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson was photographed July 9 at Pier 59 Studios in New York.

Stuber left Netflix this spring, and under his new production company about to launch, he’ll already have a first-look, multiyear film deal with Amazon MGM Studios and will be involved in anything released by the new United Artists.

Even eight years after his passing, Prince remains a singular presence in pop culture. There are truly only a handful of people who, worldwide, can be recognized by one name (with Oprah and Cher also landing on that coveted list). Prince will always be remembered best as one of the most popular recording artists of all time, with chart-topping hits such as "I Wanna Be Your Love" and "Batdance" from the soundtrack to Tim Burton's "Batman," just to name a couple. For all of his many accomplishments, Prince's defining moment came 40 years ago, in 1984, when his hit film "Purple Rain" topped the box office, rocketing him to new heights of stardom.
For as much as the film was a hit, it was downright dwarfed by its accompanying soundtrack. With two number one songs in "When Doves Cry" and "Let's Go Crazy," the music permeated the greater cultural landscape well beyond the big screen.

Slim Shady has defeated the Swifties.
Eminem’s The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) debuts atop The Billboard 200 today, giving the Detroit rapper his 11th No. 1 album. It ends the 12-week reign of Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department, leaving her a week short of tying a nearly 50-year-old record. Only Stevie Wonder’s Grammy-winning classic Songs in the Key of Life spent more weeks on top (13) after debuting at No. 1. It later added a 14th nonconsecutive week.
Eminem was the first artist to score 10 straight No. 1-debuting albums. The Death of Slim Shady is the 15-time Grammy winner’s first album since Music to Be Murdered By, which streeted just before the Covid lockdown. The new set’s lead single, “Houdini,” reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The rapper, who won a Best Song Oscar in 2003 for “Lose Yourself” from the movie 8 Mile, was inducted...

Anthony Mackie is currently a leading star in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and his character, Sam Wilson, is set to play a major role in the franchise’s future. However, the movie that truly changed his career trajectory was Kathryn Bigelow’s Oscar-winning war film, The Hurt Locker. Mackie had a supporting role in the film, playing Sergeant Sanborn. However, he almost lost the role due to another “awful” director’s unreleased film.

While Mackie was held up in the other film, Bigelow approached another big star for Sanborn, only to be turned down by him. She eventually came back to Mackie and his role in the film received critical praise, bringing him to the forefront of Hollywood.
