The "This Is How We Do It" singer completed the first two boot camp-like challenges based on actual military exercises, which included a backward dive out of a helicopter into water and crossing a 300-foot-wide canyon on a tight rope 200-feet off the ground. However, the third task caused Montell's injury. The recruits had to fight one of the DS agents who wore a red padded suit and then immediately calm themselves when told to in order to show that they had control of their emotions. During the fight, Montell sustained a suspected broken thumb and had to exit the competition.

On average, women score higher than males on the widely-used ‘Reading the Mind in the Eyes’ test, which measures ‘theory of mind’ (also known as ‘cognitive empathy’).

This finding was observed across all ages and most countries, as per a new study of over 300,000 people in 57 countries.

Importantly, there was no country where males on average scored significantly higher than females on the test, according to the study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (Pnas).

Prime Video has no shortage of shows or movies arriving in September. The biggest new show on the block for Amazon Studios is “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” which is a prequel based on the work of J.R.R. Tolkien that’s set thousands of years before the events of “The Hobbit” and “Lord of the Rings.” Several new 2022 films will be available on the streamer as well: including Channing Tatum’s “Dog,” Michael Bay’s “Ambulance,” Zac Efron’s “Firestarter,” Dylan O’Brien’s “The Outfit,” and more.

With its list of new releases for September 2022, Prime Video is finally unveiling the most anticipated (and expensive) series in the streamer’s history.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will arrive to Prime Video’s servers on Sept. 2, 2022. This Lord of the Rings prequel, set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Second Age, is in many ways the kind of TV property that Prime Video must have always wanted. It’s certainly the TV property most fitting with the company’s largesse and riches. The Rings of Power will cover the creation of the titular rings and many important events from Tolkien’s lore (condensed into a more TV-appropriate timeframe).

Jake Gyllenhaal will star in a remake of the 1989 Patrick Swayze film “Road House” from director Doug Liman that’s set at Amazon, the studio announced Tuesday.

The project was first announced last year at MGM and will now move to Prime Video, and Amazon has also now set the full cast for the film.

Billy Magnussen (“No Time to Die”), Daniela Melchior (“The Suicide Squad”), Gbemisola Ikumelo (“A League of Their Own”), Lukas Gage (“The White Lotus”), Hannah Love Lanier (“A Black Lady Sketch Show”), Travis Van Winkle (“You”), B.K. In an early example of Amazon exploiting its newly acquired MGM library, Doug Liman will direct Jake Gyllenhaal in a reimagining of the 1989 action film Road House for Prime Video.

The late Patrick Swayze starred as the bouncer Dalton in the original and Gyllenhaal will play a former UFC fighter who takes a job as a bouncer at a rough roadhouse in the Florida Keys and discovers not everything is as it seems.

If you’re looking for new movies and TV shows to watch on Amazon Prime Video in April, you’ve come to the right place. Mediawan Rights, the commercial arm of the European media powerhouse, is set to expand its scope with the launch of a sales division dedicated to light entertainment programming. Estelle Bodén, an industry veteran, has been appointed head of distribution of this newly-created unit.

Bodén will report to Valérie Vleeschhouwer, managing director of Mediawan Rights, and will be in charge of developing and structuring this new initiative.

Boasting 25 years of experience, the executive previously worked at Strix Television, the outfit behind hit reality TV formats such as “The Farm” and “The Bar.” In 2004, Bodén co-founded Friday TV whose portfolio included factual formats around the world, notably “Clash of the Choirs,” “Single Moms” and “Minute to Win It” which aired on NBC in the U.S. and traveled to more than 50 territories. She also co-created the Swedish company Elk Entertainment, which was acquired by ITV Studios in 2017.

Ventana Sur’s Blood Window Works in Progress sidebar, along with the event’s Screenings and project pitchings, have firmly cemented the annual event as one of the standout dates for genre cinema in Latin America and abroad. This year, six works in progress will screen as part a hybrid Ventana Sur market which will run Nov. 29 through Dec. 3.

The 2021 selection of works in progress can, in some ways, be seen as a return to form for the event. Over the past several years, the types of films screened in the section have diversified to include science fiction, fantasy and thriller propositions, in addition to the traditional horror flicks on which it was founded. For 2021, however, terror is the name of the game once again, with all six films self-defining as either horror, thriller or a combination of the two genres.

Also notable is the impressive spread of countries contributing to the section.

The Rtl Group-owned “Got Talent” producer will use their new assets — 12 companies in all across Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark — to form Fremantle Nordics.

The Scandinavian Nent Group had its unscripted assets on the sales block since early 2020. The companies included are Strong Productions (Denmark); Grillifilms, Moskito Television and Production House (Finland); Monster, Novemberfilm, One Big Happy Family, Playroom, Rakett and Strix TV (Norway); Baluba and Strix Television (Sweden).

The companies join Fremantle’s existing Nordic production outfits, which operate as Fremantle in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland, as well as the separate Miso Films, producers of “The Investigation,” “The Rain” and “Those Who Kill,” and Blu, which makes “X Factor.”

The deal, which was announced in July, has now been approved by the region’s regulators.

A September 2022 production start is being eyed in London and Atlanta.

Angel Manuel Soto (“Charm City Kings”) has signed on to direct “Blue Beetle” for Warner Bros.’ DC Films division, Variety has confirmed, bringing the studio’s first Latinx superhero movie closer to life.

Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, who wrote “Miss Bala” and an earlier draft of Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming remake of “Scarface,” is penning the screenplay. Zev Foreman is executive producing. The project aims to start production in the fall.

Blue Beetle is one of the oldest comic book superheroes, first appearing as a Fox Comics character in 1939 from creator Charles Wojtkowski. The character bounced to different owners as various comics publishers folded through the 20th century, before ultimately landing at DC in the 1980s.

“Charm City Kings” director Angel Manuel Soto is set to direct “Blue Beetle,” DC Films and Warner Bros.’ first superhero movie starring a Latino character, individuals with knowledge of the project exclusively tells TheWrap.

The screenplay is from Mexican-born writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, who wrote Universal’s “Scarface” remake and Sony’s “Miss Bala.”

In DC Comics, Blue Beetle is the superhero alter ego used by three different heroes, but the film will focus on Mexican-American teenager Jaime Reyes, the third character to assume the Blue Beetle mantle.

“It is an honor to direct Blue Beetle, the first Latino superhero film for DC,” said Soto in a statement to TheWrap. “I want to sincerely thank everyone at Warner Bros. and DC for trusting me to bring Jaime Reyes to life. I can’t wait to make history together.”

The film is eyeing a fall production start, with Zev Foreman executive-producing for Warner Bros.

Neko Case has announced two outdoor, socially distanced shows in New England for this fall.

The first concert will be held on Tuesday, October 13th, at South Farms in Morris, Connecticut, about two hours outside of New York City. The show is part of the venue’s Twilight Concerts on the Farm outdoor series, produced by Manic Presents, and follows Dinosaur Jr.’s performance there last month. The second show will be a drive-in concert at Midway Lawn at Champlain Valley Expo in Essex Junction, Vermont, held on Thursday, October 15th.

The more emotion-driven a TV series or movie, the more important the soundtrack. And boy is Normal People, the Hulu adaptation of Sally Rooney’s wildly popular novel of the same name, driven by the emotion of its characters and world.

Normal People follows Marianne and Connell’s complicated relationship as they move from being teenagers at a small town in western Ireland into young adulthood at Dublin’s Trinity College, and showrunner Ed Guiney, directors Lenny Abrahamson and Hettie Macdonald, music supervisors Juliet Martin and Maggie Phillips, and editor Nathan Nugent have done an impressive job crafting the music landscape for this world.

A few years back, Twitter exploded with the (almost certainly apocryphal) story of a high school performance of Rent which took some serious creative liberties. Here, instead of dealing with AIDS, the characters in Jonathan Larson’s 1990s boho rewrite of La Boheme were coping with diabetes…and the show now had Roger and Mimi forgoing Azt breaks to have their beepers reminding them to take insulin.

I bring this up not to make light of any disease – indeed, I wouldn’t even attempt gallows humor involving any ailment given our terrifying current situation – but mainly to illustrate how even the slightest change to a beloved source material can ultimately dishonor it.. This was a concern that popped into my mind when I heard that Riverdale would be making the decidedly adult-themed Hedwig and the Angry Inch...

Betty has been through a lot in Riverdale. Between her dad being the Black Hood, her mom joining The Farm, and her boyfriend faking his death, Betty's life has been somewhat bleak. However, the one constant throughout all of this turmoil has been her boyfriend, Jughead.

Cast your eyes over the (very long) list of in-development Star Wars titles and you’ll notice that, like Resistance, the vast majority are rooted in that sweet spot between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.

There are exceptions to the trend, of course; Lucasfilm projects like Episode IX and the hotly-anticipated Mandalorian series from Jon Favreau are the real outliers. But when it comes to Star Wars Resistance, fans are beginning to fall in love with Poe, Leia, and rookie X-wing pilot Kazuda Xiono, who became “The Recruit” during Sunday’s well-received pilot.

Star Wars Resistance is the latest animated series to come from the mind of The Clone Wars and Rebels showrunner Dave Filoni. As the title suggests, it’s set prior to the events of The Force Awakens and will follow the Resistance in their fight against the First Order. The first trailer, released last month, promised a bright, fast-paced show that focused on a new bunch of Resistance pilots, but that doesn’t mean some familiar faces won’t pop up, too.

With just a week and a half to go until it arrives on Disney Xd, an extended look at the series has now dropped online and features Oscar Isaac reprising his role as Poe Dameron. The Resistance leader will act as a mentor to protagonist Kazuda “Kaz” Xiono, who wants to be an “ace pilot” but who Poe sends on a dangerous mission to spy on their enemies.

It introduces us to a team of talented and daring pilots known as The Aces and in the process shows off a lot of cool new footage that offers us some insight into who these characters are and the role that they’ll play in the series. This team of pilots are hired to serve and protect the Colossus platform in the series. This is actually a group of fun and interesting characters. I’m pretty excited about this series and I like everything that I’ve seen from it so far!

A new piece of poster art and a featurette have been released for Lucasfilm's upcoming animated series Star Wars Resistance and they highlight the new characters that will fill the story and make up Team Fireball. I also like the little tagline that comes with it: "Some Heroes Stick To The Plan. Others Just Wing It."

The Fireball team consists of, Jarek Yeager, former Rebellion pilot who is trying to live a quiet life as a mechanic. That all changes when Poe and Leia ask for his help; Tam Ryvora, a fellow mechanic who used to be a racer herself before she lost her ship. “She’s tough, no-nonsense, she kind of has attitude"; Neeku, a green naive alien, who is an "unbelievably positive, happy character"; and Bucket, a droid who has a thing for wearing X-wing fighter pilot helmets.

Disney and Lucasfilm have peeled back the tarpaulin on a shiny new banner image for Star Wars Resistance, and this one is all about assembling the next generation of fighter pilots.

Front and center here is Kazuda “Kaz” Xiono (voiced by Days of Our Lives alum Christopher Sean), the Resistance’s latest recruit who hopes to spy on the First Order and impress his commanding officer, who just so happens to be Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac).

Remember, this newfangled animated series takes place before The Force Awakens, meaning Poe is yet to cross paths with Finn and Rey. It opens up a fascinating avenue for Resistance to explore, too, and we know from Rebels and The Clone Wars that Lucasfilm tends to strike lucky when dabbling with animated adventures set within the Star Wars universe.

Will Star Wars Resistance uphold that trend? Who knows, but below you’ll see Kaz and Co.

Last week Disney Xd released the first trailer for Lucasfilm's new animated series Star Wars Resistance and for the most part, fans seemed to like what they saw. Now we've got some cool additional news regarding the series to share with you.

It's been confirmed that Princess Leia will appear in the series and the character will be voiced by Rachel Butera. The actress announced the news herself in the following Twitter post:

There's no word on how big of a role Leia will have in the series, but it will still be great to see more of Leia's story told in the series.

The new TV cartoon follows Kazuda Xiono (“Kaz”), a young pilot recruited by the Resistance for a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order.

“Star Wars Resistance” is set to debut with a one-hour premiere on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 10/9c on Disney Channel, DisneyNOW and Disney Channel VOD, with subsequent airings on Disney Xd. Following its U.S. debut, “Star Wars Resistance” will rollout globally on Disney Channels Worldwide.

In the first episode, titled “The Recruit,” Poe Dameron and Bb-8 assign newly-appointed spy Kaz to the Colossus, a massive aircraft re-fueling platform on an outer rim water planet, home to colorful new aliens, droids and creatures.

Fans won’t have to wait until “Star Wars” Episode IX to see Poe Dameron and his trusty droid Bb-8 again. Thanks to creator Dave Filoni, they’ll appear on the small screen first in the animated prequel series “Star Wars Resistance,” which premieres this October on Disney Channel.

The duo will help usher in a rookie ace pilot named Kazuda Xiono, or “Kaz” for short, in the series, which is set sometime before the events of “The Force Awakens.” The wide-eyed new Resistance recruit will become a spy whose mission it is to infiltrate the First Order, which is a growing threat. Once the series premieres on Disney Channel, it will roll out on Disney Channels worldwide.

According to Disney’s official description of the one-hour premiere titled “The Recruit”:

While we’ve now got a pretty good look at the time between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope in the form of Solo and Rogue One and on TV in Star Wars Rebels, the time period between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens remains considerably murkier.

That’s all set to change when Star Wars Resistance airs this fall, though, which sounds as if it’s going to flesh out this very interesting interim time in the universe as well as some of the Sequel Trilogy’s major characters. From what we understand, the series will run for 22 episodes and follows a young pilot named Kazuda (Kaz) Xiono.

He’ll be joined by familiar faces like Poe Dameron, Captain Phasma and Bb-8, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see other mainstays like General Leia, Kylo Ren, General Hux and Supreme Leader Snoke making some...

Star Wars Resistance is the new animated series set in the galaxy far, far away. The show follows Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited by the Resistance and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order. Resistance features Bb-8 alongside ace pilots, colorful new characters, and appearances by Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma, voiced by actors Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie, respectively.

Dave Filoni, exec producer and director of both The Clone Wars and Rebels, created Resistance. In true Filoni fashion, the series has its own unique art style. Resistance is "anime-inspired."

“The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots,” Filoni said in a press release.
