Former WWE and reality TV star Matt Cappotelli after a year-long battle with cancer. He was 38 years old.
Cappotelli starred on the third season of WWE’s Tough Enough reality show, produced by the WWE with MTV, where participants trained for a shot at a WWE contract. Cappotelli and John Hennigan (known professionally as Johnny Nitro) were the winners. Cappotelli went on to wrestle in the development league for the WWE, winning the Ohio Valley Wrestling championship.
Cappotelli had his pro wrestling career cut short after he was first diagnosed with a brain tumor and underwent surgery. Ten years later, the tumor returned, and he had a second surgery in June 2017.
In December 2017, doctors determined that the remaining tumor was inoperable, as it was located close to his brain stem.
His wife, Lindsey Cappotelli. announced his passing in a Facebook group dedicated to him.

Matt Cappotelli, the winner of WWE’s reality show “Tough Enough,” died Friday after fighting two battles with brain cancer, WDRB reports. He was 38.
Cappotelli was first diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2005, beating it two years later. However, in 2017, doctors diagnosed him with a Grade 4 glioblastoma tumor and were subsequently unable to fully remove it, deeming it terminal, Wdrb reports.
Cappotelli, who is survived by his wife, became a trainer at Ohio Valley Wrestling after his retirement.
TheWrap has reached out to the WWE for comment on Cappotelli’s death.

The male winner of 2015’s WWE Tough Enough, Josh Bredl, made headlines this week when he made some disparaging comments on Twitter about The Social Outcasts during Monday’s edition of Raw. Bredl called them the “Social Jobbers,” and he received some serious blow-back from several WWE stars, including Stardust and Kevin Owens.
Bredl then dug an even deeper hole for himself when he responded to Kevin Owens’ tweet about blocking him with a “Lol.” Owens, a man known for always getting the best of people in Twitter disputes, responded appropriately:

Josh Bredl could debut in WWE at this Sunday’s Royal Rumble. F4wonline reports that all Nxt talent will be there at the event, and people in the company want to see him debut in the Rumble match.
The reason for that, is all the heat he has courted this past week. As we noted earlier, Bredl made a comment about the Social Outcasts being “Social Jobbers”, which caused Stardust and Kevin Owens to hit back at him on Twitter. “Probably going to be a long day for young Josh,” Bryan Alvarez stated in his update about Bredl being backstage at the Rumble.
The wrestlers will want to see him in the Rumble match so that they can chop the hell out of him. That’s what happened with Tough Enough winner Daniel Puder back in 2005, with Chris Benoit and Hardcore Holly legit beating the hell out of the arrogant rookie.

The most recent WWE Tough Enough winner has landed himself in some hot water with a since-deleted tweet that mocked the new quartet Social Outcasts.
Josh Bredl’s rash decision resulted in immediate criticism from WWE superstars, and not just the four group members.
The tweet in question read, “Yup.. I like it.. #SocialJobbers” and was later deleted, but Josh — who wrestles as Bronson Matthews — was verbally taken to the woodshed by WWE wrestlers such as Curtis Axel, Heath Slater, Adam Rose, Stardust and Kevin Owens.
While the three Social Outcast members mocked and made light of the situation, Stardust and Owens lashed out at the rookie, with Stardust tweeting, “Enjoy dressing in the hall d**k. Not blocked. Banned.” Owens blocked Matthews, tweeting “Look at the veteran here with the big fancy insider terms!”

2015 WWE Tough Enough winner Sara Lee has been increasing her size as she continues to train in the Performance Center. The Michigan-born developmental talent posted several pictures to her Instagram and Twitter showing off her increased muscle mass, accompanied by the caption ‘#gains’.
It’s obvious that Lee has been making full use of the Performance Center’s state-of-the-art fitness facilities. Despite having not yet made her Nxt debut, she looks to be getting herself into fighting shape – and a call-up could well be on the horizon.
Lee has been travelling with several Nxt workers, and recently posted a picture from a Citrus Springs meet-and-greet alongside former Nxt Tag Team Champions Aiden English and Simon Gotch – collectively known as The Vaudevillains.
The news is encouraging for the direction of women’s wrestling as a whole. With talent focusing on looking like fighters rather than supermodels, from the...

WWE developmental talent (and recent Tough Enough contestant) Patrick Clark has been slammed for no-showing an agreed date with Boston-based Millennium Wrestling Federation.
Co-founder Dan Mirade posted the above video to Mwf’s YouTube channel, criticising Clark for cutting of all contact regarding a pre-arranged appearance, and branding him a ‘total diva’ for his conduct throughout. He also disparages the youngster for ‘lucking into’ a reality show, rather than forging a more traditional path to WWE stardom.
According to Mirade, Clark agreed to appear at tonight’s ‘TV14 Fight Night’ as far back as August 31st, and even discussed transport with the promotion. He is then alleged to have ignored Mwf’s follow-up messages,
The promoter has also accused Patrick of lying to WWE officials, claiming that he never agreed to appear in the promotion, despite apparent video evidence to the contrary.

It’s been a rough couple of years for old school wrestling fans. Three of the most iconic stars in the history of the industry all passed away less than 18 months apart. Most recently we said goodbye to legends Dusty Rhodes and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, but 15 months prior to “The American Dream” leaving us the wrestling world was rocked by the loss of The Ultimate Warrior and the shocking timing of his death.
Throughout the entire ordeal, his wife Dana Warrior exhibited grace and strength while struggling with the loss of her husband and father to their two daughters. Outside of a few brief media appearances and some work with WWE, including introducing the Warrior Award at this year’s Hall of Fame she has remained mostly out of the public spotlight.

This past summer was an interesting one within WWE. In the ring Seth Rollins continued killing it as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Finn Bálor defeated Kevin Owens to win the Nxt Championship and both The Undertaker and Sting made their first appearances on WWE television since WrestleMania 31.
A lot also happened outside of the ring as well, with Josh Bredl and Sara Lee being offered $250,000 WWE contracts as the winners of the Tough Enough reboot and, on a much sourer note, WWE cut all ties to the man regarded as perhaps the biggest name in their history, Hulk Hogan.
However, one of the most interesting thing thats happened over the summer (which received a fair amount of attention) was that Reddit user Kingjobbah leaked eight pages of what are thought to be WWE guidelines written by Vince McMahon himself to advise the WWE announcers.

There was a scary incident that took place at WWE’s Performance Center in Orlando on Monday when a fan was shot outside of the facility.
Armando Alejandro Montalvo, 29, who is from the Orlando area, had allegedly being banned from the building by court order after previous incidents in recent weeks. When he refused to go away, while apparently holding a chain in his hands, a police officer shot him and he was sent to hospital.
More details have emerged today regarding the incident. It’s been reported that Montalvo had an obsession with WWE Hall of Famer Lita and also was a big Aj Lee fan. He had signs for Lita saying “Lita I Love you” and also had a chair and binoculars with him when he was arrested at the WWE Performance Center on August 4.

He drops a Beastie Boys reference and hypes up the show. ‘I’ve spent sixteen years talking about politics, it’s nice to be back in reality’. WWE? Reality? This is clearly a WWE-scripted intro, then. Huge boos for Cena’s name. This crowd is going to eat him alive. Mick Foley is brought out- cheap pops imminent…yup, there it is. They riff with each other for a while and it doesn’t really go anywhere. Still, nice to see Foley and Stewart looks up for this.
After the customary video package, it’s time for our first match…

Good choice for an opener. Orton went for an Rko early, but Sheamus bailed and cut a ringside promo and fans looking stupid.

The finale of WWE Tough Enough next Tuesday will see guest appearances from WWE superstars Cesaro and Alicia Fox. Cesaro will have matches with Josh and Zz while Fox will have matches with Amanda and Sara.
So far on the show, the competitors have just done basic stuff in terms of matches. They actually had matches in front of Nxt wrestlers a few weeks ago, but they were edited and only ran about two minutes long with basic moves like bodyslams used as finishers.

After ten weeks of training, the hope is that maybe they can put together a decent match that can impress the WWE Universe, who will have the final vote to determine the one male and one female winner of Tough Enough.

This week on WWE Network’s Tough Talk show that follows Tough Enough, Amanda was interviewed and while she was talking about her competitor Sara, she called her a ring rat.

There are three men and two women left on WWE Tough Enough, which is set to wrap up in two weeks. While the fan favourites appear to be Zz for the guys and Sara for the girls, Josh Bredl is the guy that WWE management seems to be impressed with the most.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Josh is a lock to be signed to a WWE developmental deal whether he wins the contract or not. It has been reported since the show started that Josh was the favourite of Vince McMahon after the first week.
The reason Josh is so well liked is because he’s a former football player that is 6’7″ and 275 pounds. He’s also only 24 years old, so he’s the prototypical big man that WWE loves that is also young enough that they can definitely try to turn into a WWE superstar.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Josh is a lock to be signed to a WWE developmental deal whether he wins the contract or not. It has been reported since the show started that Josh was the favourite of Vince McMahon after the first week.

Chyna and Triple H were both in attendance at Roddy Piper’s funeral, Dave Meltzer reports in the wrestling observer newsletter. They were in the same room for an hour and never spoke once.
This was the first time in years that former couple had been together in the same room. It would have been extra awkward, given that Chyna recently accused Triple H of hitting her during their tumultuous relationship. He strongly denied those accusations.
Piper’s funeral took place in Portland, Oregon on 8/11. Other attendees included Bret Hart, Brian Knobbs, Michael Hayes, and former Ufc star Chael Sonnen.
Vince McMahon didn’t attend. He tends to be in Orlando on Tuesdays for Tough Enough.
Another service was held for Piper on the day previous, outside the Portland Sports Arena. That was where Piper had worked for Portland Wrestling. Furthermore, a service in California will take place on...

This week was the eighth episode of Tough Enough and the person eliminated was Giorgia (aka Gigi).
The final three were nominated because Daniel Bryan felt that Gigi didn’t do a good job as a babyface, The Miz criticized Tanner for his lack of a personality and Paige likes to nominate Sara Lee because she doesn’t think she’s very good.
In the final three, Sara Lee had 43% of the fan vote, Tanner had 35% of the vote and Gigi managed only 22%. Why do people like Sara Lee so much when she really hasn’t done that much? It’s hard to say, but maybe she’s got that underdog look that people like.

WWE diva Paige is set to be the next guest on Steve Austin’s WWE Network podcast, to air immediately following the August 3rd Raw. This is Austin’s fourth WWE Network podcast, following his specials with Vince McMahon, Triple H and Paul Heyman.
The original choice for the guest was Hulk Hogan, who was named as a future guest earlier this year, but his recent firing stemming from the controversy of his bigoted tirade, opened up the spot for someone else. Since the podcast was intended, in part, to promote Tough Enough, it makes sense that WWE replaced Hogan with someone else from the show.
While there will no doubt be Tough Enough chatter, it would be nice if Austin didn’t stray too far from his formula and kept it loose. Giving Austin a script and telling him to give Tough Enough the hard sell won’t make for captivating viewing.

WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin is back on the WWE Network to host his outstanding Stone Cold Podcast with Paige announced as his next guest. She will sit down with Austin immediately following next week’s Raw on Monday August 3rd.
The podcast will likely run one hour long with the two time former Divas Champion and Tough Enough judge and indeed it’s the struggling reality tv show that she will be plugging and no doubt why she was chosen for the this episode’s slot.
What’s interesting is that WWE probably had the rare opportunity to use The Undertaker or Brock Lesnar for the podcast to promote the impending, four-hour long WWE SummerSlam which they are touting as “the biggest ever”, but instead Vince McMahon’s so invested in trying to save Tough Enough that they went with promoting that angle instead.

The WWE "terminated its contract" with Hulk Hogan this morning, the organization announced, in light of a National Enquirer and RadarOnline report of Hogan using hate speech in his infamous sex tape. (Hogan's rep told People that the wrestler resigned from the WWE.) That contract included his role as a judge on this season of WWE Tough Enough, which airs on USA. Hogan will no longer appear on the show, but sources close to production confirm to Vulture that Tough Enough will in fact keep airing — just with a replacement judge. This season of WWE Tough Enough is going into its sixth episode of a ten-episode season and has so far been pulling in around 1.1 million viewers per week — not bad, but not spectacular. Chrisley Knows Best, which also airs on Tuesdays, pulls in around 1.9 million. No word yet on who the replacement judge might be, but...

Hulk Hogan is gone from the WWE, amid rumours of a racist audio tape in which he uses the N word. His presence has been completely removed from the company, even from wwe.com’s Hall Of Fame page.
His removal from WWE also impacts the ongoing filming of Tough Enough. He was a judge and one of the big marketing aspects of the show. The fact that WWE felt the need to remove him from a current show and their Hall Of Fame, that gives you some indication of how serious this story could be.

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley has has vowed to stop watching Tough Enough after last night’s shocking elimination of Patrick Clark, who was considered a favourite to win a contract on the WWE reality show.
During the nomination part of the show this week, Paige nominated Patrick because he was being too cocky. Even though he’s the only one of the guys that is actually a trained wrestler and it was clear he was well ahead of the others when they did the training, he ended up in the bottom three. He’s also the only one that was a huge WWE fan that knows a lot of the company’s history, which is impressive especially because he’s only 19 years old.

Having been in existence since 2001, the idea of WWE Tough Enough is intriguing in theory. Basically, through using a reality TV-type format, the company wants to showcase the industry of pro wrestling as on one level simple enough for anyone to understand, but on another hand difficult for just anyone to master. It’s an intriguing premise, and one that with each consecutive season of the program has made it appear to initially be cool and fun, but at some point during the proceedings, just become tiresome, boring and largely ineffective.
Considering the fact that at present zero winners of the Tough Enough program are currently employed by WWE, why bring the program back to television? If the winners actually become dead weight that WWE just keeps around in order to satisfy corporate eyes that are curious about their product investment, it feels ultimately worthless. Is WWE a...

The television ratings for WWE Tough Enough are down this season from where they were at in 2011 and according to the Wrestling Observer, the belief from people at USA Network is that wrestling’s popularity is cycling downward.
Considering that the ratings for Monday night Raw are down this year as well, that seems to be a fair assessment by the network that airs Raw, Tough Enough and will also air Smackdown in January 2016.
This Tuesday’s edition of Tough Enough was at 1.22 million viewers, which is up 17% from the previous week. Those numbers pale in comparison to the 2011 season average of 2.4 million viewers when Steve Austin was the host and the format of the show was different.

I'm going to be honest here, wrestling just isn't what it used to be. I watched it all the time when I was younger, but over the last decade or so, haven't been able to get into it very much. For me, the highest point of the entertainment sport was the "Attitude" era, where The Rock and Stone Cold were prominent players along with other memorable wrestlers. So today's announcement that Stone Cold is on the cover of the new WWE 2K game, has me pretty giddy.

WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon was not at Raw last night, which meant that Triple H was left to run the show according to Wrestling Observer Radio. McMahon’s long time Executive Producer Kevin Dunn was also not at Raw because they were both in Orlando for the debut of Tough Enough tonight.
It was noted that even though McMahon missed Raw, he still wrote the show with his creative team.
WWE.com
What was noteworthy about Raw is that it ran long going 17 minutes past the 11pmET hour. Normally it goes about 5-7 minutes past 11pmET, so there may have been some timing issues without Vince around. It takes a whole team of people to put on an episode of Raw and they are used to answering to Vince. While Triple H is very capable of running the show, things are different with another voice anchoring it.

When Samoa Joe debuted on WWE Nxt on Wednesday, the announcers immediately treated it like a big deal and bigged up his star power in an excited way. Joe’s shirt also said “Samoa Joe” right on it.
What about the people at home watching that may not have known who he was? Surely there were some of them. Not all of them are reading about wrestling online or watching other companies. That led to Tna Wrestling play by play announcer Josh Mathews going on Twitter to question WWE for it.
How did the @Wwenxt announcers know who @SamoaJoe was if we are #obscurity in their world? Sick of hypocrisy.

The reason Mathews said that is because Joe worked for Tna for nearly ten years before parting ways earlier this year. Before that, Joe first made a name for himself in Ring of Honor.
