In the ongoing streaming wars and the endless discussions about the state of the entertainment industry that they've sparked, NBCUniversal's Peacock has become something of a contentious topic, if not an outright comedic punching bag -- with even Nikki Glaser's opening monologue at the 2025 Golden Globes joking that "The Day of the Jackal" is "about a top secret elite sniper that no one can find 'cause he's on Peacock." Nevertheless, the American streamer counts over 30 million subscribers, and jokes aside, those subscribers actually do have quite a plentiful offer of great television available at their fingertips.
Here, we've ranked the 15 best shows that Peacock subscribers can press "Play" on right now, including classics and gems from both sides of the pond and all eras of television. You'll find something for everybody, even if each show listed here is worth watching in its own right.

Nearly 10 years after Sons of Anarchy's conclusion, Charlie Hunnam is finally starting to get promising roles after his performance as Jax Teller in the FX series. Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, Charlie Hunnam fatefully dipped his feet in acting after he was discovered by a production manager when he was 17. Soon after, he landed his first major role in Queer as Folk when he was 18, paving the way for him to explore bigger opportunities in film and television.
After playing myriad roles in several relatively lower-budget films and TV shows, Hunnam got his big break when he got the opportunity to play Jax Teller in FX's Sons of Anarchy. The critically acclaimed series soon made him a household name, highlighting his potential as a leading man. Strangely, however, even though Hunnam has played diverse roles in several renowned movie franchises and shows since Sons of Anarchy, none have been as iconic as Jax Teller.

Universal Television casting head Beth Klein is set to retire and depart the studio at the end of the year.
Klein, who first joined Utv in 2011, has increased representation in front of the camera through her work, which included Jason Katims’ “As We See It,” which centered around three roommates on the autism spectrum, and David Schulner’s “New Amsterdam,” with characters often portrayed by actors living with the actual illnesses featured in the storylines.
She was also instrumental in the creation of “StandUp NBC,” where diverse stand-up comedians across the country would compete for the chance to win a talent-holding deal; and worked closely with NBCUniversal’s Launch Talent and Casting Assistant program that develops aspiring episodic casting directors during a ten-month paid pipeline initiative.

Netflix’s next Christmas movie offering of 2024 has arrived, and it might make you melt. Or it might heat you up. Or … both?
“Hot Frosty” is now streaming, following the love story of Kathy and Jack. Their meet cute? Kathy unintentionally brings Jack to life with a magic scarf — because he’s a snowman. Yes, seriously. They spend the movie navigating his secret, all while he attempts to not melt into a literal puddle. Again, seriously.
That said, it’s pretty delightful, and it definitely has a pretty stacked cast. Here are the major players you’ll recognize.
Netflix Kathy (Lacey Chabert)
Kathy is the woman who unwittingly brings Jack the snowman to life, via a magic scarf. She’s played by Lacey Chabert and, odds are, you know her from one of the many Christmas movies she’s done over the years. Then again, you might recognize her more...

Charlie Hunnam will star in “Monster” Season 3 at Netflix as notorious serial killer Ed Gein.
Series co-creator Ryan Murphy made the announcement onstage during a promotional event in Los Angeles for “Monster” Season 2, which focuses on the Menendez brothers and the murder of their parents. The first season of the anthology series focused on serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.
Gein, who also hailed from Wisconsin like Dahmer, became infamous in the 1950s when authorities discovered that he not only had killed multiple people, but had dug up graves from a cemetery near his home and fashioned all manner of household items and clothing from human remains. Gein’s case served as an inspiration for several major pop culture characters later on, including Norman Bates in “Psycho” and Buffalo Bill in “Silence of the Lambs.”

In more ways than one, Charlie Hunnam's upcoming crime drama seems like his perfect Sons of Anarchy replacement. Charlie Hunnam is now a household name with over 30 acting credits in his portfolio. However, long before he became a relatively more mainstream actor, he made his foray into acting with small television roles. His television breakthrough came with the series Queer as Folk, in which he portrayed Nathan Maloney. Since then, the actor's fame has only grown from strength to strength, paving the way for him to land more leading roles.
From portraying the titular role in Guy Ritchie's King Arthur: Legend of the Sword to playing the real-life geographer Percy Fawcett in The Lost of City Z, Charlie Hunnam has consistently demonstrated his versatility and range as an actor. However, despite having so many diverse roles under his belt, he is best known for portraying one character: Jax Teller in Sons of Anarchy.

Following weeks of rumors, the Friday, August 30 episode saw what is likely the end of the road for actor Adam J. Harrington on ABC’s “General Hospital” after his character, John “Jagger” Cates, was killed off.
During a face-off with Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), John confronts the mobster, telling him he should turn himself in by confessing to his crimes. Unfortunately for the FBI agent, Sonny had the upper hand, informing John that he made a mistake by going after his family, something the coffee importer/exporter had warned him about previously. In the end, Sonny shoots two bullets into John as the rain pours down over them.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) after his final episode aired, Harrington seemingly addressed his exit, captioning the post, “Good night all……” The post was accompanied by a photograph of a sunset. Separately, in a post on his Instagram story timeline,...

Exclusive: The BBC has dismissed viewer complaints about an episode of Doctor Who featuring a historic gay kiss between Ncuti Gatwa and Jonathan Groff.
Two disgruntled audience members took issue with the “inappropriate sexual innuendo” that developed between Gatwa’s Time Lord and Groff’s bounty hunter, Rogue, in a Bridgerton-inspired story.
The viewers said the Season 14 episode, titled ‘Rogue,’ featured content that was “unsuitable for children.” One person added that the speed of the Doctor and Rogue’s connection was “concerning.”
The BBC’s Executive Complaints Unit (Ecu) threw out the concerns. In a ruling on Thursday, the unit said the sexual innuendo was mild and suitable for Doctor Who’s young audience.
“The Ecu considered the sexual innuendo to be towards the mildest end of the spectrum and in any case likely to go over the heads of children,” the Ecu said.

Warning: contains spoilers for Doctor Who episode “The Legend of Ruby Sunday”
Ncuti Gatwa’s first run of Doctor Who episodes was designed as a fresh start for the show – hence the decision – by everybody not too stubborn and/or confused to break continuity with the post-2005 numbering system – to call it “season one”.
A line was drawn, in salt, after the 60th anniversary specials, which banished the Doctor’s grief and trauma to a slowly healing Fourteen. Fifteen was freed up for fun, fantasy-filled adventures with a box-fresh companion. Goodbye to baggage, and ta-ra to decades and decades of teetering, suffocating lore. Come one, come all to Doctor Who. No previous experience necessary!
And then, in apparent contradiction of the show’s season one-newness, two-part season finale “The Legend of Ruby Sunday/Empire of Death” reintroduced a villain from 1975 serial “Pyramids of Mars”. Wouldn’t any newcomers the show...

The year 2024 has been nerve-wracking for television fans. No shows are safe, and many reigning champs are seeing the end of their careers.
Did any of us really expect to see long-running success shows like Station 19 or Blue Bloods end?
But they are ending as networks try to tighten their production budgets. That means saying goodbye to some of our favorites to make room for the new and improved.
It can be tricky to get attached to a freshman season of any show. You can get attached to the characters, only to find out it was for naught when the season doesn't succeed.
Thankfully, that's not the case with Justin Hartley's new series, Tracker.

This piece first appeared in the February 2021 issue of Empire.
Russell T Davies is exhausted. The story he's had on his mind for decades is finally arriving on television, in the form of visceral, angry, funny, transgressive five-part drama It’s A Sin, and he's still coming to terms with it. When Empire meets Davies, 57, in a London hotel bar, he's still processing it. "I think I'm stunned that, having wanted to write this for about 30 years, we've actually made it." he explains. "And now I'm a little bit bereft."
Once he gets going though, digging deep into the show's long difficult glorious birth, he doesn't seem bereft at all. He's burning with excitement and pride, in fact, palpably thrilled that he's managed to tell the stories of his friends from the 1980s and the virus that cut a swathe through their lives. The series isn't so much broadly autobiographical...

Charlie Hunnam has been cast in the lead role of the series adaptation of “Criminal” at Amazon Prime Video, Variety has learned.
“Criminal” is based on the graphic novels of the same name by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. The official description states that the series is “an interlocking universe of crime stories.”
Hunnam will star as Leo. The character is described as “A brilliant master thief who sees all the angles, and specializes in plans with no guns and no violence. Like a chess player, Leo thinks three moves ahead. Other crooks think he’s a coward, especially compared to his father Tommy, who went to jail for murdering the most feared man in the city, Teeg Lawless.”
Hunnam joins previously announced cast members Adria Arjona, Richard Jenkins, and Kadeem Hardison in the series.
This is not the first time Hunnam has starred as a criminal in a TV series or film.

Amazon’s Freevee is dropping out of High School.
The ad-supported free streamer has opted to cancel the heartfelt series inspired by the memoir from Grammy-nominated twin sibling performers Tegan and Sara Quin after a single season.
The writing for the cancellation has been on the wall. Despite rave reviews, High School last aired in October 2022 with the formal decision to cancel the show coming nearly two years after the fact.
Sources say Amazon-owned Freevee wanted to renew High School for a second season, with executives in late 2022 expressing enough optimism for showrunner Clea DuVall to open a mini-room to craft a sophomore run. Ultimately, sources say the completion rate for High School left Freevee and Amazon execs little choice but to cancel the series despite the fact that scripts for an entire second season had already been completed.

Freevee (then called IMDb TV) ordered the coming-of-age dramedy to series...

When Ncuti Gatwa makes his first appearance as the 15th Doctor in the science-fiction series “Doctor Who,” he isn’t wearing any pants.
In a 60th-anniversary special released in December, the previous Doctor — played by series icon David Tennant — subverts the show’s long-standing practice of regeneration: Instead of simply transforming into the next Doctor, he literally splits in half, bringing Gatwa’s Doctor into the world alongside him. In the process, the two divide the clothes of Tennant’s Doctor between them, leaving Gatwa in nothing but a dress shirt and a pair of tighty-whities.
“Oh, my God, that first costume fitting!” Gatwa says, bursting into an infectious fit of laughter. It’s a frequent occurrence as he speaks with Variety on a chilly March day over lemon ginger tea at the Langham hotel in London. “I was like, ‘Are you joking?!’ They showed me a pair of [underwear] and...

Law & Order: Organized Crime season 5 is still on the bubble at NBC. The show's success on Peacock suggests that it has a possible streaming future if canceled. If it becomes a Peacock exclusive, the future of Organized Crime could look very different.
The future of Law & Order: Organized Crime has gotten an intriguing update. The show is the sixth spinoff of the franchise and one of just three that remain on the air, a roster which also includes the flagship show and Special Victims Unit. Although Oc follows serialized storylines as opposed to the episodic scenarios presented by the other shows in the universe, it frequently features crossovers with those shows and, in fact, lead character Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) originated on Svu, having been a lead character for the show's first 12 seasons.

Davies doesn't like continuing series for too long, but the fresh challenges of Doctor Who drew him back. He has a personal connection to Doctor Who and enjoys the creative freedom the show offers. Despite his tendency to leave after a few seasons, Davies' return to Doctor Who was driven by excitement and passion.
After 14 years, Russell T Davies returned as showrunner for Doctor Who, and there are clear reasons behind both his departure and return. Davies was initially approached to be the showrunner for the revival of Doctor Who, which brought the series back to television after a 16-year hiatus. Doctor Who officially returned on March 26th, 2005, with Christopher Eccleston starring as the Ninth Doctor. However, Eccleston only stayed with Doctor Who for one season, and David Tennant took over as the iconic character to continue the new era of the series.

Showtime Cable Channel Is Now Officially Paramount+ With Showtime, But What Does That Actually Mean?
There is some level of content reciprocity between the two versions of Paramount+ With Showtime, but the whole thing is just confusing.
Nearly one year ago, when Paramount Global announced that it would be rebranding its iconic premium cable network Showtime as “Paramount+ With Showtime,” it drew a lot of confusion from customers and people in and around the industry. The first step in this transformation came when the company renamed the premium, ad-free tier on its flagship streaming service Paramount+ with the Paramount+ With Showtime moniker back in June 2023. As of Monday, Jan. 8, Paramount has now officially made the move on the cable side as well, making things even more confusing than they already were.
As of Monday, both the ad-free streaming tier and premium cable channel are known as Paramount+ With Showtime. Streaming subscribers have access to the linear channels, but linear subscribers will not automatically have access to the streaming service.

Showtime, one of the most trusted premium cable channels this side of HBO, is rebranding. The channel, owned by Paramount Global, is officially set to relaunch with a new name in January 2024. Get ready for the Paramount+ with Showtime era. This is a title that the company had already been leaning into on the streaming side, but now the long-standing cable channel is taking on the new branding as well. For better or worse, it's a corporate synergy move.
On January 8, 2024, Showtime will officially rebrand as Paramount+ with Showtime, so anyone who subscribes to the channel will need to be aware of the title change. That means the cable channel will have the same name as the company's top-tier streaming offering. Paramount+ also has an "essential" plan with ads that does not feature Showtime's original series. On December 25 2023, the Fifteenth Doctor’s first big adventure will arrive, starring Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor, and Millie Gibson as new companion Ruby Sunday. TV presenter Davina McCall will play herself in the episode, solving the long-teased mystery of which 2005 guest star would be returning (McCall voiced the Davinadroid in series one’s “Bad Wolf”).

As initially reported in May 2022, the project is currently set up at Max with a script-to-series commitment. It is being developed as a one-hour drama series via Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
Reps for Max and Warner Bros. Television declined to comment.
Cody is best known for writing the critically-acclaimed comedy feature “Juno,” for which she won the Academy Award for best original screenplay in 2008. With the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and representatives of Hollywood studios and streamers reaching a tentative deal on a new contract late Sunday, international reactions started pouring in Monday.
Among the groups chiming in on the development was the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain (Wggb). “We send our congratulations to our sister union in the States on reaching a tentative agreement with the AMPTP,” Wggb chair Lisa Holdsworth said in a statement. “In the past 146 days we’ve seen an extraordinary show of solidarity from writers and their union siblings on both sides of the Atlantic, and indeed around the world. We’ve been overwhelmed by the response of our own membership in standing with their striking colleagues overseas — you have followed the WGA strike rules to the letter, turned out to the Wggb protest in London in the summer and sent a tsunami of support on social media.

In Red, White & Royal Blue, an unexpected fling goes from playful secret to intimate love story for Alex Claremont-Diaz (Taylor Zakhar Perez), the first son of the United States, and Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine), Britain’s spare.
Adapted for the screen by co-writers Ted Malawer and Matthew López (who pulled double duty as director) from Casey McQuiston’s new, wildly popular adult best-seller of the same name, the film arrives just a year after a slew of notable (and often comedic) queer romance releases — including Fire Island, Bros, My Policeman and fellow Prime Video title Anything’s Possible — and amid several anticipated 2023 titles like Bottoms, Joy Ride and Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe.

The Heels season 2 cast brings back most of the characters from the first season of the Starz professional wrestling series that tells the family story of family drama and betrayal in small-town America. Heels stars Stephen Amell (Arrow) and Alexander Ludwig (Vikings) as brothers show take on the role of running an indie wrestling company in a small Georgia town after their father dies by suicide. However, the two brothers can't agree on how the company should move forward, and this causes strife in their personal and professional lives.
The second season of Heels brings back most of the cast from the first season, with three other fresh additions to the lineup - both with actors playing wrestlers and some playing other members of the community affected by this wrestling promotion's struggles and success. The actors involved come from both the big and small screen, with a few real-life professional wrestlers thrown in as well.

As TV academy voters fill out their 2023 Emmy Awards nominations ballots, they will have to consider 163 shows for Best Drama Series. This is only down by eight compared to last year. After six years of not having to limit their choices in any categories, members can now not let their selections exceed the number of eventual nominations for a given award, which will be eight in this case.
2020 and 2022 champ “Succession” is in the hunt for its third win in this category and will potentially only have to fend off two of its seven rivals from last year. “Better Call Saul” and “Yellowjackets” returned in time to meet the eligibility window of June 1, 2022 to May 31, 2023, while “Euphoria,” “Severance,” “Squid Game,” and “Stranger Things” did not. The last remaining 2022 contender, “Ozark,” officially finished its four-season run last April. Also back in the running are former winners “The Handmaid’s Tale” (2017) and “The Crown” (2021).

The Writers Guild of America strike is putting the spotlight on key issues that are important to ensuring a future for writers, Succession creator Jesse Armstrong and colleagues told The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday in central London where they participated in a show of support for the WGA strike on a “Global Day of Solidarity” that used the moniker and hashtag Screenwriters Everywhere.
Armstrong discussed such core hot-button issues in the labor dispute as pay, writers rooms and AI.

Over the years the U.S. has produced many remakes to put their own spin on international content, but there are quite a few long-running or popular classic U.S. TV shows that audiences had no idea were remakes. As soon as a television series reaches international acclaim or becomes exceedingly successful in its home country, chances are another country will give the premise a try in the form of a remake. On occasion, remakes will end up becoming more beloved than the original series. One of the most famous cases of this is with the American version of The Office.
Usually, remakes will keep the original series' basic narrative and a similar cast of characters, but tweak the dialogue, situations, and general aesthetic to fit the adapted story into a different culture. ‘Doctor Death’, ‘Queer As Folk’ & ‘Becoming Elizabeth’ Head To Rebranded Channel 4 Streaming Service
Channel 4 has picked up a wealth of U.S. content for its rebranded streaming service including Dr. Death, Queer As Folk and Becoming Elizabeth.
The shows will become available over the coming months on the streaming service that was previously called All4 but is now simply titled Channel 4.
Leading the acquisitions slate is NBC’s Doctor Death Season 1, which was based on the hugely successful podcast of the same name. Peacock’s Queer as Folk U.S., meanwhile, is heading to its natural home 25 years after Russell T Davies’ Channel 4 breakout first aired. That show was cancelled by Peacock after one season.
The pair were acquired from NBCUniversal alongside The Girl from Plainville.
Elsewhere, Anya Reiss’ Becoming Elizabeth aired on Starz last year and tells the story of England’s most iconic queen, while Channel 4 has also bought Cruel Summer from eOne.

After first sparking rumors that she may be joining Darren Star on his latest series, “Emily in Paris“, when they appeared together at the season 3 premiere, Kim Cattrall responded to Et about possibly reuniting with the “Sex and the City” creator.
“We’ll see,” she told Et’s Rachel Smith while promoting her new film, “About My Father”, which opens in theaters on Friday, May 26. “We’ll see what happens.”
While it’s certainly possible that the 66-year-old star could appear in the upcoming fourth season of the hit Netflix series starring Lily Collins as an American ingénue who moves to Paris and joins a French marketing firm, she reminded Et that she has a new series of her own coming out on the streaming platform.
“I don’t really know [but] I have another show coming out called ‘Glamorous’,” Cattrall said. “[It’s] sort of like a ‘Devil Wears Prada.'”

Sex and the City was full of raunchy scenes that the show’s cast Kim Cattrall and her co-stars had to indulge in. But there was one sequence in the hit HBO television series Cattrall felt her character Samantha would never do.
Kim Cattrall once had a scene rewritten because she thought it was too inappropriate for ‘Sex and the City’ Kim Cattrall | Dia Dipasupil/Getty Images
Part of the appeal of Sex and the City was the show’s loose and groundbreaking sense of humor. The series would depict its main cast in many outrageous situations in their attempt to find love in New York. Cattrall was at the center of many of the show’s antics, even disrobing occasionally for her character’s love scenes. But there was one Sex and the City scene Cattrall felt was crossing a line.

Streamer Disney+ has revealed a power packed British cast who will join the previously announced David Tennant, Alex Hassell, Aidan Turner and Danny Dyer on the series adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s steamy novel “Rivals.”
Joining the eight-part saga are Annabel Scholey (“The Split”), Maggie Steed (“Ten Percent”), David Calder (“Motherland”), Antony Byrne (‘”The Witcher”), Denise Black (“Queer as Folk”), Bryony Hannah (“Call The Midwife”), Olivia Poulet (“Back”) and Brendan Patricks (“Downton Abbey”).
“Rivals” is part of Cooper’s bestselling “Rutshire Chronicles,” set in affluent 1980s England where two powerful men and neigbors – Olympian turned politician Rupert Campbell-Black and television exec Tony Baddingham – have a longstanding rivalry that finally comes to a head.
Scholey plays Beattie Johnson, a ruthless Fleet Street journalist who will do anything for a story. Steed plays Lady Gosling, the steely no-nonsense chair of Independent Broadcasters Association. Calder plays Lady Gosling’s dogmatic right-hand man, Fergus Penney,...

The return of showrunner Russell T Davies to “Doctor Who” is already living up to expectations, and it hasn’t even started airing yet. It was recently announced that the show would be adding stage and screen actor Jonathan Groff. BBC said in a statement, “He’s on his way to jump aboard the Tardis in a mysterious and exciting guest role.” Who do you think he’ll be playing when he joins the adventure?
Groff is known for his Tony-nominated roles in the Broadway musicals “Spring Awakening” and “Hamilton,” the latter of which also won him a Grammy for its cast recording and earned him an Emmy nom for its Disney+ recorded version. He also had a noteworthy recurring role in “Glee,” voiced Kristoff in the “Frozen” movies, and played the lead role in a couple of underappreciated shows that ran two seasons apiece: Andrew Haigh and Michael Lannan...
