French director Jeannot Szwarc has died, it’s been announced. He was 85 years old.
Understandably, the film world is mourning the loss overnight of one of its true greats, David Lynch. Lost a little though is that a fine genre director also passed away.
French director Jeannot Szwarc died on Wednesday 15th January, it was announced, at the age of 85.
Born in Paris, Swarc moved to America and cut his teeth on popular television shows such as Kojak and The Rockford Files. But for the movie-going generation of the 1970s and 1980s, it was his feature films that drew the most attention.
His big break was arguably 1978’s Jaws 2 (pictured), getting the nod when Steven Spielberg declined the opportunity to return to the sequel (and after original director John Hancock was fired). Perhaps his most acclaimed American film followed, 1980’s Somewhere In Time, starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour.

Carry-On, a film about traveling through the airport at Christmas, is on course to break into Netflix’s top ten films of all time.
The thriller, which stars Taron Egerton, Jason Bateman, and Sofia Carson, bested its performance last week by adding another 55M views on top of last week’s 42M number. It remains number one on Netflix’s weekly film charts, having already become Netflix’s biggest launch of a film this year.
Given that it has scored 97M views in its first ten days, Carry-On, which was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and produced by Amblin Partners, it could well enter Netflix’s top ten films of all time. For reference, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery wrapped up 136.3M views in its first month to take the ten spot, Jennifer Lopez’s The Mother is number nine with 136.4M views, We Can Be Heroes got 137.3M for...

If you’re looking to get Laid this weekend, Peacock’s newest series has you covered.
Adapted from an Australian series by Nahnatchka Khan and Sally Bradford McKenna, who previously collaborated on the far too short-lived Don’t Trust the B— in Apartment 23, the acerbic romantic comedy stars Oscar nominee Stephanie Hsu as Ruby, a narcissistic event planner in her early 30s desperately seeking a real connection when she learns that her former lovers have all begun dying in unusual ways. This strange but shocking revelation quickly leads Ruby and her true crime-loving best friend Aj (a scene-stealing Zosia Mamet) down a twisty path as they attempt to figure out what’s going on, one that may or may not also lead Ruby on a journey of self-discovery. A quick and highly bingeable eight episodes, Laid is the awards contender to watch this weekend.

Dee and Joe Indiviglio like to go out on their front porch at night, and look up. That’s where they were on Dec. 4, when they saw something they hadn’t seen before above their Middletown, New Jersey, home: a group of lights, moving quickly, strangely all over the sky, for maybe a half-hour or longer.
A few days after that, Dee did something else unusual for her. She uploaded a video of those odd lights to a new-ish app called Enigma. “I usually don’t share anything, ever. Even if I did something crazy.

As this year’s NFL season gets underway, one of the most highly anticipated stories set to unfold over the next few months is that of New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers. After tearing his left Achilles last year just four offensive snaps into the 2023 season, he’s spent the last year preparing to get back on the field. But game-day plays and press conferences can only reveal a small part of the four-time Mvp’s story. Aaron Rodgers: Enigma, a three-episode documentary series produced by Religion of Sports (Simone Biles: Rising), Skydance Sports, and NFL Films, will reveal a side of Rodgers that few get to see on December 17.
The new docuseries is just one of many upcoming Netflix titles that will bring the sweat and intensity of elite athletics directly into fans’ living rooms. New and returning sports titles include:

As depicted in the Netflix docuseries Aaron Rodgers: Enigma, the Super Bowl-winning quarterback left the Green Bay Packers after playing there for nearly two decades. Aaron Rodgers: Enigma chronicles Rodgers' experience after being sidelined with an Achilles injury for the entire 2023-24 NFL season in the highly-anticipated season-opening game against division rivals, the Buffalo Bills. The docuseries was released exclusively on Netflix on December 17, 2024.
Aaron: Rodgers Enigma depicts the Qb's transition from the Green Bay Packers, who he played 17 seasons for and led to a Super Bowl victory in 2010, to the New York Jets. Rodgers returned for the current 2024 NFL season but has found little success with his new organization, which fired their head coach Robert Saleh after a 2-3 start to the season (they are 4-10 at the time of writing and have no path to the playoffs). Aaron Rodgers: Enigma, a new Netflix docuseries about the great and apparently greatly misunderstood NFL quarterback, begins with a tattoo. After the Green Bay Packers trade him in early 2023 to the New York Jets, Rodgers decides to change his jersey number from 12 to 8, which in turn inspires him to get the tat: a dragon eating its own tail while curled into the shape of an infinity symbol.

Aaron Rodgers: Enigma focuses on several aspects of the documentary's titular NFL quarterback, including his season-ending Achilles injury in 2023 and the recovery process that followed. Injuries are an unfortunate part of competitive sports, especially contact sports like football. NFL players are continually putting their bodies on the line to bring home victories for their fans and teammates. Although some positions are traditionally more physical than others and therefore tend to carry more risk, every player who steps foot on the field is risking getting hurt in the process - and that includes Aaron Rodgers.
Rodgers was drafted in the first round by the Green Bay Packers in 2005. He sat behind NFL veteran and Packers legend Brett Favre for three years before finally being awarded the starting job when Favre left for the New York Jets. History repeated itself 18 years later when Rodgers also went on to become a Jet in 2023. Unfortunately,...

Netflix is taking a deep look into the life of legendary boxer Mike Tyson with a new three-part hourlong docuseries.
The announcement Tuesday comes on the heels of the record-breaking Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight on Netflix, which became the most-streamed global sporting event ever, according to the streamer.
Known as the youngest heavyweight champion in history, at the age of 20 in 1986, the as-yet untitled docuseries “will explore the man behind the gloves,” according to Netflix, “from his meteoric rise as the “Baddest Man on the Planet” to his personal struggles – including a period of incarceration and widely publicized struggles – and eventual redemption.”
Directed and executive produced by Floyd Russ, the project hails from EverWonder Studio, Dlp Media Group and Five All In The Fifth.

Just weeks after the bout with Jake Paul shattered streaming viewership records, Netflix says that Mike Tyson will be the subject of an upcoming documentary series.
The series will be made with Tyson’s full cooperation, and will feature mot only his in-ring success, but also his personal struggles, which established him “as one of the most compelling and polarizing figures of our time.”
In a statement of his own, Tyson suggested that despite his cooperation, he intends to take an objective look at his complicated life.
“Having an opportunity to share my story through the reflective lens of my growth and maturity in a multi-part documentary on Netflix will be a challenging journey, yet a very welcoming one,” said Tyson in a statement. “Most people are too scared to look at their lives objectively, wanting to paint themselves as the hero of their own story. Watching the new Netflix sports docuseries Aaron Rodgers: Enigma, I reflected on how the media has changed this century. It’s a funny thing. Journalists and reporters demand genuine, honest conversation, yet we live and die by search engine optimization. However, we live in an age where we reduce soundbites to the point where we no longer care about their accuracy.
Today, we cut up what transpires in a one-on-one conversation or press conference into something that never reflects the actual intent. The days of Edward R. Murrow are gone, replaced by bloggers and social media darlings. While watching Aaron Rodgers: Enigma, you can genuinely feel for the man, but he often puts his foot in his mouth without showing true humility.

The new Netflix docuseries Aaron Rodgers: Enigma drops on Tuesday, December 17, and the timing could be better. Sure, the quarterback's New York Jets finally won another game in Week 15 of the NFL season, and Rodgers has played well for two straight games, but overall, his team has been an extreme disappointment in 2024 and so has the Qb.
In fact, that Netflix is still releasing a docuseries about Rodgers only emphasizes his gravitational pull. He is ancient now for a professional quarterback at 41 years old, and it has been several years since he was anywhere near the best among his position group. Still, he has made enough waves away from the field that he maintains his newsworthiness.
This is, smartly, where Aaron Rodgers: Enigma focuses. Instead of focusing on his recent poor play, the series watches as the quarterback espouses (and misleads in one specific area) some views that are different from many.

Shōnen Jump has long since made a name for itself as the biggest manga magazine in the world. Not only has it consistently had the highest circulation of any manga magazine in Japan, but it’s birthed some of the most iconic manga of all time like Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach, so there’s no denying how big it is to the world of anime and manga.
Some of history’s most iconic manga came out of Shōnen Jump, but that can’t be said for every one of their works. In addition to Shōnen Jump manga that were canceled too soon, some manga, even when they do get a chance to tell their stories properly, never leave much of an impact on people, so whatever the case, plenty of great Shōnen Jump manga were unceremoniously forgotten due to how little impact they left during or after their runs.

When Fall Is Coming by François Ozon seems like a leaf falling through fresh, amber air, its first moments shrouded in the misleading warmth of pastoral innocence. At first glance, the film appears to settle into the rhythms of a calm, autumnal reverie—a “sweetly melancholic meditation,” if you will, on aging, family, and the quiet reckonings of life’s latter seasons. However, beneath its golden hues and knitted textures lies a darker, more uncertain core, where genres combine, and assumptions are quietly shattered.
The film’s tone, its delicate interplay of the serene and menacing, feels like a light trick—a sunbeam glinting off the surface of a shadowy pond. Ozon draws his audience into a comfortable, even quaint world, only to disclose its fractures: the grim comedy of poisoned mushrooms, the thriller’s lack of concealed blame, and the melodrama of unresolved guilt.

Exclusive: Alysia Russo, who was Head of Docuseries at Amazon MGM Studios, is moving to Netflix.
It marks a rare senior executive moving directly between two rival studios.
Russo is understood to be working on feature docs at Netflix. While there are two executives from this team on maternity leave, Russo’s role is unrelated and is a temporary contract, thought to be 18 months.
Russo was behind Amazon docuseries such as LulaRich and its upcoming Glitter and Greed: The Lisa Frank Story, which comes from the producers of ID’s Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.
Her move comes less than four months after a restructure within Amazon MGM Studios.
In May, Russo’s boss Lauren Anderson, who was Head of AVOD Programming and Studios Unscripted across U.S. Prime Video and Amazon Freevee, was named Head, Brand and Content Innovation, but continuing to oversee the AVOD originals team.

Aaron Rodgers will be back on the field for an NFL for the first time in a year after tearing his Achilles four snaps into his first game for the New York Jets.
The outspoken quarterback will do it with a Netflix greenlight in his pocket.
The streamer has ordered docuseries Aaron Rodgers: Enigma, which will follow Rodgers’ comeback, which kicks off at Levi’s Stadium as the Jets take on the San Francisco 49ers.

One of the NFL’s biggest names is getting the Netflix sports treatment.
Aaron Rodgers, a four-time league Mvp and quarterback of the New York Jets, will be the subject of a three-hour docuseries on the streamer. Aaron Rodgers: Enigma is set to premiere Dec. 17 — eight days before Netflix takes its biggest leap into live sports with two NFL games on Christmas Day (though neither one involves the Jets).
The Rodgers series is one of several sports projects Netflix announced Monday: It has also picked up a third season of Full Swing, which follows golfers on the PGA Tour, and ordered a new slate of documentaries under the Untold banner. Among the subjects for the latter in 2025 will be the notorious locker-room gun incident involving Washington Wizards players Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton; the beef and cheating accusations between chess grandmasters Hans Niemann and Magnus Carlsen; and a steroid scandal...

The Marvel Universe power structure is always changing, with powerful beings like Odin and the Beyonder currently out of commission. Characters like Franklin Richards, Uranos, and Juggernaut have risen to god-like status, showcasing immense power and abilities. Unique villains like the Mother of Horrors, Enigma, and the Lost One are challenging the supreme One Above All, making for complex cosmic conflicts.
Most Marvel Comics fans have a rough idea of the universe's power structure, with the One Above All at the top, Howard the Duck at the bottom, and various Avengers and X-Men scattered between them. However, the Marvel Universe is always in flux, and many beings who are technically the wielders of A-list power are currently dead, depowered, or missing in action. Figures like Odin (dead and enjoying his rest in Valhalla) and the Beyonder aren't around to safeguard their reputations, with others moving up into their place.

There is a new expansion in Destiny 2 called The Final Shape, and in the Echoes activity players can now play the Enigma Protocol. It is an echo back to the Season of the Splicer event a couple years ago, and the Enigma Protocol is specifically for three players to complete and enjoy. It is also on a timer, so you have to complete it before that timer runs out. This can make it fairly challenging and it is helpful to know the ins and outs ahead of time to make a successful run.
With The Final Shape in Destiny 2 being released, there are a lot of fun new items, missions, and activities for players to enjoy. The Enigma Protocol is the first Echo in Act 1 that you will be able to run until the act is over. But there are a few steps you will have to take to start the Enigma Protocol activity.

The Chromatica Ball, Lady Gaga‘s most recent stadium tour, fought against numerous obstacles before it was able to fully bloom in 2022. The run was postponed twice — first when the world shut down during the pandemic in 2020, then again when only certain stops on the international run were prepared for the return of live music in 2021. When the Ball finally commenced, Gaga leaned into her biggest and weirdest musical modes.

X-Men comics highlight the top 4 types of being in Marvel’s multiverse - Dominions are godlike AI which fear only three other types of being. Galactus and the Phoenix Force are the "primal threats" that Dominions fear, and which may attack due to their attempts to wipe out biological life. Last August, Thunder Road Pictures optioned “Enigma,” Wood’s original contemporary supernatural spy thriller. The supernatural series is set in an all-girls school that is suddenly plagued with strange incidents. One particular girl has her interest piqued by these incidents, and she slowly realizes she’s much more involved in them than she had expected. Enigma is quite fast-paced, and in the short 45 minutes, a lot goes down, although some parts are funny rather than frightening. Let’s dive right into episode 1 of Enigma.
Spoilers Ahead
What Happens In The Episode?
A young girl is being interviewed in what looks like a black-and-white documentary for a school project. She holds a piece of art in her hand that has what looks like a person that is living with many versions of themselves in a cage of cracked glass, and a lot of eyes surround the cage.

Your performance in 2001 war thriller Enigma – adapted from the Robert Harris thriller with Kate Winslet and Tom Hollander – is one of my favourites. But would you make a better backroom boy or globetrotting spy? catwhowalksbyitself
I like to think a better globetrotting spy because I have a sense of adventure, curiosity, don’t mind risk-taking and I love travel. I did have to prepare for quite a few months beforehand to get my head around all the mathematics. So I went to visit this professor at Cambridge, and spent time at the National Museum of Computing in Milton Keynes, being taught about the concept of codebreaking. I love doing research, so it was bliss.
The other thing that people forget is that Enigma was produced by Mick Jagger,...
