Head back to school with Hulu! This September, the streamer will help FX usher several new series premieres, including the new comedy “English Teacher,” created by and starring Brian Jordan Alvarez as a high school teacher stuck at the cross-section of the, personal, professional, and political. For the graduating class, Season 2 of the college-set Hulu Original series “Tell Me Lies” will premiere, as well, followed by weekly episodes throughout September and October.
On Friday the 13th, catch thrills with FX’s cat-and-mouse drama “The Old Man,” starring Emmy nominee Jeff Bridges and Jeff Lithgow, which will have its Season 2 streaming premiere. It’s been an eventful summer for Disney, and not under ideal circumstances. After his wife’s death because of food allergies at a Disney park, a man struggled to pursue legal action against the company due to his Disney+ subscription. Then, “X-Men: 97” showrunner Beau DeMayo shared a series of posts elaborating on his termination, and his attorneys told IndieWire that he’s preparing to sue.
The headlines have people considering whether to keep subscribing this month — but if you’re a parent, there’s no real replacement. The kids can tune in to “Lego Pixar: Bricktoons,” “Chibi Tiny Tales,” “Disney Jr.’s Ariel,” and more, as well as new episodes of the K-pop series “Are You Sure?” There’s also a big Marvel premiere, but more on that below. Hulu gets a ton of new movies including the “Die Hard” franchise, “Freaky Friday” (which has a sequel in the...

Albums revolving around the subject of nascent motherhood are tricky propositions. They can too easily slip into weepy tributes to pristine bundles of flesh or get bogged down in awe-filled self-aggrandizement. After all, is there anything more godlike than creating another human being?
Natasha Khan, a.k.a. Bat for Lashes, largely evades both of these pitfalls on her sixth studio album, Dream of Delphi. The British singer-songwriter gave birth to her first child—Delphi, named after the Greek oracle—at the height of the pandemic, and the self-produced album serves as a humble, meditative tribute to the innate bonds between a mother and her child.
Inspired by French film scores and Japanese ambient music like that of the late Sakamoto Ryuichi, the album’s 10 compositions are lyrically sparse, with a handful eschewing language altogether. The lyrical minimalism of the shoegazy lullaby “Delphi Dancing” conveys the inarticulable emotions of new...

Breaking Up is Hard To Do: Trueba Reinvents Couple Goals
Gloriously reminding us that we are doomed to repeat the same existential mundane experiences, in an

Reworking with the very likeable screen pairing thesps of Itsaso Arana and Vito San (also featured in Trueba’s previous number The August Virgin), The Other Way Around (which goes by the title Volveréis – which means “you will return” in Spanish) is a Kinder Surprise for how life imitates art, and how the couple-hood we see on screen might just be mordant live example of what is le passé composé.…...

Bat for Lashes is back with the announcement of a new album, The Dream of Delphi, out May 31st via her new label home Mercury Kx. As a preview, the dream pop artist born Natasha Khan has shared the title track and its accompanying video.
The Dream of Delphi was named after and inspired by Khan’s daughter, who was born in the summer of 2020. According to a press release, her sixth studio full-length is a concept album about motherhood featuring “devotional love songs about the spirituality, ancestry, and folklore, but also the mundane, selfless and tender aspects of child rearing that all mothers can attest to.” It’s partially told through a character called the Motherwitch.
Khan added that the title track is “the manifesto of the album. It’s like a spell being cast. It’s the conjuring, the manifestation, the drawing-down of Delphi from the ether. This...

Nothing gold can stay, and to make room for everything new at Hulu in November, we have to say goodbye to dozens of the series and movies on the platform. The streamer will make room for its upcoming Christmas library by losing some of its horror-themed titles throughout the month, including “Stephen King's It,” most of its “Saw” franchise, and “Shaun Of The Dead.” Other major titles leaving the platform include Emma Stone’s breakthrough comedy “Easy A,” the Nora Ephron classic “Sleeping in Seattle,” and more.

Salma Hayek Pinault Was Told She Was Too 'Sexy' For Comedy Until Adam Sandler's Grown Ups Came Along
As a producer, Adam Sandler has always managed to attract an impressive litany of talent. Although the films released through Sandler's studio, Happy Madison, regularly get terrible reviews, they tend to be very lucrative and high-profile actors keep coming back for more work. This may be because, as the rumor mill has it, Sandler is a relentlessly decent and kind human being that others love to work with. As such, Al Pacino can be seen in "Jack and Jill," Susan Sarandon appeared in "That's My Boy," and the likes of Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale, Jennifer Aniston, and Winona Ryder have all played Sandler's wife or love interest in his movies.
In Dennis Dugan's 2010 film "Grown Ups," Salma Hayek Pinault plays Roxanne, a successful fashion designer, and the wife of a talent agent named Lenny (Sandler). "Grown Ups" is about how Lenny is still very close with the circle of...

Los Angeles, Feb 7 (Ians) Salma Hayek revealed in a new interview with GQ UK that Hollywood blocked her from starring in a comedy for nearly 20 years because she was deemed too sexy for the genre, says ‘Variety’.
Although Hayek acted in romantic comedies such as 1997’s ‘Fools Rush In’ (opposite Matthew Perry) and ‘Breaking Up’ (opposite Russell Crowe), she said it wasn’t until 2010’s ‘Grown-Ups’ that she got the chance to star in a traditional comedy movie. Hayek credited Adam Sandler with finally giving her the chance to be funny.
“I was typecast for a long time,” Hayek told GQ UK, according to ‘Variety’. “My entire life I wanted to do comedy and people wouldn’t give me comedies. I couldn’t land a role until I met Adam Sandler, who put me in a comedy [2010’s ‘Grown Ups’], but I was in my forties! They said, ‘You’re sexy, so you...

Sean and Catherine Lowe arearguably the most successful couple in Bachelor history. They're the only example of a Bachelor proposing to a woman on the reality show and marrying her, and they're even still hitched! Et spoke with them on the phone as they geared up to celebrate their four-year wedding anniversary in January.
"First, you have to commit," Sean says of the secret to their marital success. "Especially coming off of a show like The Bachelor. You’re being pulled in 1,000 different directions and you have to ... make each other your No. 1 priority."
"It takes a lot of work," he continues. "Surround yourself with good people, good couples you can look up to and ask advice from. ... As a married man you alter your ways and do what you can to please your spouse. I think we both do a good job of that. It’s all about committing through good times or bad. ... New posters for a trio of movies today. Up first, the debut poster for Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe’s political thriller “Broken City”. I’m expecting at least a fistfight between Wahlberg and Crowe, or I’m going to be feeling mighty gyp if this turns out to be one of those “talk a lot thrillers”. Also starring Catherine Zeta-Jones, Barry Pepper, Kyle Chandler, Justin Chambers, Natalie Martinez, Alona Tal, James Ransone, and directed by Allen Hughes. Breaking up January 18, 2013. Next, a pair posters featuring Denzel Washington for his drama “Flight”, about a boozehound pilot who nevertheless manages to save the day, once again proving my theory that being a boozehound is grossly underrated. “Flight” co-stars James Badge Dale, John Goodman, Don Cheadle, Kelly Reilly, Bruce Greenwood, Melissa Leo, Nadine Velazquez, Rhoda Griffis, Tamara Tunie, Brian Geraghty, Garcelle Beauvais, and is directed by Robert Zemeckis. “Flight” touches down November 2, 2012. And finally,...

In 2006, before I started The Playlist film blog, out of boredom I began what I called the The Playlist Soundtrack Series. A sort of "If I Were _______ (insert filmmaker's name here)" type thing. The concept was naive and simple: choose a handful of music-savvy filmmakers whose work I admired and create imaginary soundtracks for movies they hadn't made, based on their taste and music they might conceivably use one day. It began as nothing more than a fun exercise for me, as I had time on my hands back then.
Eventually, I had amassed a half a dozen of these soundtracks in various states of completion, and to host them somewhere I started The Playlist blog in 2007. It then became a place to discuss music in film, soundtracks, etc., and when that topic was outgrown slightly (after a while you tend to hit all the classic film and soundtrack bases...

Ha'iole: Unbreakable, inflexible, stubborn.
The second season premiere of Hawaii Five-o reminded us why Steve McGarrett and his team are truly "Ha'iole."
If May's first season finale - with Steve being arrested, Kono on suspension, and Chin Ho back with Hpd - left you on the edge of your seat and made you think this episode was going to let you relax like I did... then we were both wrong!
So much happened in the first hour of this season. Let’s break down what we learned ...
Five-0 is Reinstated: Thanks to the Lt. Governor (Richard T. Jones), Steve, Danny, and Chin Ho are back on the job, but with some restrictions. They don’t have the total immunity they had before. Personally, given some of the outlandish stuff last season, I’m okay with it being brought down a notch or two it was getting into the realm of not believable.
