Netflix announced on Thursday morning that Eddie, a new documentary on actor and comedian Eddie Murphy, is set to premiere on the service in 2025. The announcement was one of many made today as part of the service’s promotional event, Next on Netflix. They also unveiled a first-look photo from the doc, which you can view above.

The Oscars has added many different award categories across its history, with one being added after the success of a 1980s drama, The Elephant Man. The Academy Awards are easily the most prestigious awards in the movie industry, with the first ceremony taking place in 1929. Across the history of the Academy Awards, there have been many award categories that have been added and retired across the years; most recently the award for Best Sound Editing, which was retired in 2019.

In 2024, the Oscars announced the creation of a new awards category that will recognize a movie's casting decision. The first Academy Award for Best Achievement In Casting will be awarded at the 98th ceremony in 2025; this is the first new award category since the creation of the Best Feature Film category in 2001. Further new categories may be created in the future as seen in the movie industry's campaign for a Best Stunt Award.

If you grew up on such films as "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," "The Nutty Professor," and "Liar Liar," you likely know the name Tom Shadyac. The writer/director made a name for himself with these now beloved family comedies. You might remember his first detour from such fare with the critically-panned but commercially successful "Patch Adams," but chances are you've never heard of his follow-up.

Shadyac's 2002 supernatural thriller "Dragonfly" was every bit as maudlin as "Patch Adams" but it also had the distinction of being a bona fide box office dud, making $52 million on a $60 million budget. It's certainly an unusual sequence of events, and they're made even stranger by the length of time in which it all unfolded.

Of course, remakes aren't anything new. In fact, the act of revisiting certain productions has resulted in some movie remakes that are better than the originals. Similarly, sequels can also take decades to happen. What makes Lewis' situation so bizarre is the fact that his movie had already been remade by the time the sequel to the original was released. “I recited every line to him almost every day I shot with him,” Paige said. “I had a lot of questions, like, ‘How do you play six to eight people believably?’”

For Eddie Murphy, returning to his iconic Beverly Hills Cop role four decades after the original 1984 movie wasn’t as easy physically.

The actor, 63, opened up about reprising his character, Detroit detective Axel Foley, in the upcoming Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, during an appearance on the Today show Tuesday.

“It felt like old man,” Murphy quipped to Al Roker. “I did Beverly Hills Cop when I was 21, and I’m 63 now.”

The actor’s Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F co-star Taylour Paige revealed her favorite part about working with Murphy on the long-overdue followup to his action comedy trilogy that all began in 1984.

“I grew up watching The Nutty Professor and Dr. Dolittle. It was like I knew him — it was surreal,” she told Empire of working with the Saturday Night Live alum.

“The objective was to try and get the man who made the world laugh to laugh,” added Paige. “I found it quite fun to crack him.”

She explained that her goal was to keep things light on the set of the comedy. “The world often feels like it’s in a chronic coma,” Paige said. “And without being too grandiose, I want to be a part of something which helps people to snap out of it.

When you’re making the fourth film in a long-running franchise, it can be hard to keep things funny and fresh.
