When it comes to champions of forgotten sex symbols, you can’t do much better than Quentin Tarantino.
Snubs from the annual Oscars in memoriam segment are always uncomfortable, but 2023 was an especially awkward year for the Academy. Leslie Jordan, Anne Heche, Tom Sizemore, Paul Sorvino, and more celebrities who had recently passed were excluded from the ceremony. For the late Stella Stevens — a blonde bombshell known for decades of TV and film, and who at 83 had died just one month earlier from advanced Alzheimer’s disease — facing disrespect from the industry was always routine.
“I wrote letters to the Motion Picture Academy,” said filmmaker Andrew Stevens, Stella’s only son. With hundreds of credits to his name, the director, producer, and actor makes himself as busy as his late mother but is best known for appearing in 1978’s “The Boys in Company C.” Speaking with IndieWire earlier this January,...

From Mickey 17 to The Alto Knights, 2025 has an unusually high number of upcoming movies starring lead actors playing multiple different roles. 2025 is shaping up to be a very interesting year for movies. Paul Thomas Anderson has a new film starring Leonardo DiCaprio that’s rumored to be a modernized adaptation of Vineland, James Gunn’s rebooted DC Universe will begin proper with the release of Superman, and Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible hero Ethan Hunt is coming back to the big screen one last time for The Final Reckoning.
The movies of 2025 will continue a few ongoing trends in the film industry. The new versions of Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon will continue the trend of live-action remakes of animated classics. Screamboat and Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare will continue the trend of horror movies based on iconic characters in the public domain. It looks like 2025 will start a new trend,...

Sonic the Hedgehog 3introduces a myriad of new threats to the franchise's universe, including both fresh foes and unlikely alliances. In a way, Jim Carrey'sDr. Ivo Robotnik is a heroin the latest film, joining up with Team Sonic to take down Shadow, a dangerous, escaped military experiment. Many cast members have returned alongside Carrey, like James Marsden as Sonic's adopted father, Idris Elba as Knuckles, and Ben Schwartz as the speedy titular hedgehog, and Keanu Reeves has come on board to play the aforementioned new villain.
Though Ivo and Team Sonic have put aside their differences, the same can't be said for the entire Robotnik family. In this installment, Ivo is reunited with his grandfather Gerald, and the pair don't always see eye to eye. With this addition, Carrey often acts in scenes with himself in Sonic 3, in some ways pushing his acting to new limits. Team Sonic and...

Jim Carrey has detailed the challenges of playing both Ivo and Gerald Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, alongside what makes their characters so different. The actor has returned to portray the central villain on the cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, where he'll be teaming up with Gerald and Shadow the Hedgehog (Keanu Reeves) in a world-conquering quest. The introduction of the elder Robotnik sees Carrey playing both roles, though it's unclear just how different the grandson and grandfather are going to be.
Speaking with ScreenRant, Carrey explained how "Gerald's a little bit of a tougher generation than Ivo," a core difference between both characters in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Comparing his dual roles to Eddie Murphy's The Nutty Professor, he explained how actor Brendan Murphy was a stand-in for him throughout production, the pair switching between their roles as they played out different scenes. You know a comedian had a dark side when he made an entire movie about a clown who witnesses and participates in the Holocaust and that’s still not the most disturbing decision he ever made.
Like too many of his contemporaries, the so-called “King of Comedy” wasn’t exactly chivalrous when it came to his treatment of women or his subjects. In fact, when Jerry Lewis was asked which female comedians he admired at the Aspen U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in 1998, he infamously responded, “I don’t like any female comedians. A woman doing comedy doesn’t offend me but sets me back a bit. I, as a viewer, have trouble with it. I think of her as a producing machine that brings babies in the world.” And, to absolutely no one’s surprise, Lewis’ less than stellar treatment of women (and people in general) extended past his...

Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith are among the most popular Hollywood couples known for their controversial situations. Although they have gained public attention for all the wrong reasons in recent times, with their elaborate careers, they have minted a huge fortune. After the Oscar slap fiasco, Mr. Smith’s career might have gone into tatters, but still, he has earned more than he could spend in his lifetime.

Andrew Stevens pays loving but not hagiographic tribute to his late mother, famed actress Stella Stevens, in his documentary recently showcased at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival. The film convincingly makes the case that its subject, best known for her performances in such pictures as The Poseidon Adventure and The Nutty Professor, is severely underrated, both as an actress and social activist. Stella Stevens: The Last Starlet aims to rectify that perception and, thanks to numerous clips of her work and effusive commentary by the likes of Quentin Tarantino and Vivica A. Fox, it succeeds beautifully.
The filmmaker (who appears frequently) admits that his relationship with his mother was rocky, to say the least, in the early years. Born in Yazoo City, Mississippi, Stevens got married at age 16 and had Andrew, her first and only child, six months later. The marriage soon dissolved, and when she moved to Hollywood to pursue an acting career,...

In 1949, Alec Guinness dazzled critics and paying audiences alike by playing eight members, male and female, of the D'Ascoyne family in the deliciously dark comedy "Kind Hearts and Coronets." There weren't many actors alive cocky enough to attempt such a thing, let alone pull it off, so you'd think the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences would go gaga for the actor's brazen feat and hand him the Best Actor Oscar before the ceremony began. Amazingly, he didn't even receive a nomination (though John Wayne snared his first for basically playing John Wayne in "Sands of Iwo Jima").
How did Guinness not even earn the honor of an Oscar nod? He made one critical mistake: he gave his bravura performance in a comedy.
Of the 96 films that have won the Academy Award for Best Picture, only 15 could be called comedies (and I'm being super charitable with movies like "Green Book...

Ryan Reynolds is quite sure he would make a great host for the Oscars. Imagine Reynolds holding the mic for most of the night and sharing his signature jokes and anecdotes? Maybe he’ll finally get his comedy crown back after Martha Stewart unexpectedly ripped it from his head with her latest observation.
Ryan Reynolds Says He’d Love to Host the Oscars But Is Too Busy At the Moment
To be able to even be allowed to host the Oscars, you have to be funny enough. And Ryan Reynolds is standing by his capabilities as a guy gifted with a prominent funny bone.
Straight off from the success of ‘Deadpool and Wolverine,’ Reynolds refuses to slow down, even though he’s become more concentrated on making time for his wife and four children. Already, he’s working on a marvelous script that will see him reunite with Hugh Jackman.

He’s played multiple characters in several of his films, most notably the two “Coming to America” films and the two The Nutty Professor movies. The first Nutty Professor film contains one of Murphy’s signature scenes, when the Klump family sits down to dinner, and Murphy plays five of the six characters on the screen. It wound up being a tour de force performance for Murphy, but he once told us they had their doubts about how it would turn out. Ryan Reynolds’ brand of humor has made him a beloved star in Hollywood both on and off the screen, and it still doesn’t feel real to him — even when his movie “Deadpool & Wolverine” grosses more than $1.5 billion.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” became a box office behemoth, pulling in an astounding $636 million domestically and securing its place as the 12th highest-grossing film in history. It now sits just behind Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” and ahead of Warner Bros.’ summer sensation “Barbie.” It’s also surpassed the 2019 thriller “Joker” to become the highest-grossing R-rated film ever. And among Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe juggernauts, “Deadpool 3” claims the seventh spot, having recently overtaken “Iron Man 3” globally.

The Oscars has added many different award categories across its history, with one being added after the success of a 1980s drama, The Elephant Man. The Academy Awards are easily the most prestigious awards in the movie industry, with the first ceremony taking place in 1929. Across the history of the Academy Awards, there have been many award categories that have been added and retired across the years; most recently the award for Best Sound Editing, which was retired in 2019.
In 2024, the Oscars announced the creation of a new awards category that will recognize a movie's casting decision. The first Academy Award for Best Achievement In Casting will be awarded at the 98th ceremony in 2025; this is the first new award category since the creation of the Best Feature Film category in 2001. Further new categories may be created in the future as seen in the movie industry's campaign for a Best Stunt Award.

If you grew up on such films as "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," "The Nutty Professor," and "Liar Liar," you likely know the name Tom Shadyac. The writer/director made a name for himself with these now beloved family comedies. You might remember his first detour from such fare with the critically-panned but commercially successful "Patch Adams," but chances are you've never heard of his follow-up.
Shadyac's 2002 supernatural thriller "Dragonfly" was every bit as maudlin as "Patch Adams" but it also had the distinction of being a bona fide box office dud, making $52 million on a $60 million budget. Trying something different is often to be commended, but the guy who directed "Ace Ventura" helming a film about a widowed doctor whose dead wife contacts him through patients doesn't seem like the most well-advised career move. Still, if you've got Kevin Costner fronting your bizarre drama, you might be in with a chance of making something half-decent.

Jada Smith has always been very candid about her personal life. Using her chat show as a medium to tell her story, the actress has been very vocal about her life experiences, regardless of how uncomfortable it may make her. While most fans know her for talking about her marriage with Will Smith, the actress once revealed one very dark part of her early years in Hollywood.

In the opening credits of Wes Craven's 1984 horror classic "A Nightmare on Elm Street," the evil child murderer Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) is seen hiding out in a remote boiler room, carefully constructing his preferred mode of violence: a glove outfitted with long blades on the fingertips. Freddy uses his glove to slash through the innocent flesh of his victims, giving him an animalian, predatory nature. When he wears the glove, he is ready to kill -- and he never removes it.
Freddy's glove, charred face, striped sweater, and rumpled hobo hat became the monster's signature look, and millions of horror fans have recreated Freddy's costume every Halloween since. Naturally, one can buy replica plastic Freddy gloves at costume shops, even to this day.

Jerry Lewis starred in a movie in 1963 that didn't receive a sequel until 45 years later, and even when the follow-up happened, it came in a very unexpected form. What makes the eventual sequel even more interesting is that the original movie was remade during the 45-year gap, and that remake also received a sequel before the original did. It's certainly an unusual sequence of events, and they're made even stranger by the length of time in which it all unfolded.
Of course, remakes aren't anything new. In fact, the act of revisiting certain productions has resulted in some movie remakes that are better than the originals. Similarly, sequels can also take decades to happen. What makes Lewis' situation so bizarre is the fact that his movie had already been remade by the time the sequel to the original was released. While the 2008 effort didn't exactly make waves or come anywhere...

Sci-fi comedies of the 90s spoof genre eccentricities with timeless classics like Mars Attacks and Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie. Eddie Murphy shines in The Nutty Professor, showcasing his comedic instincts with fast-talking banter and brilliant slapstick. Men in Black stands out with Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones' dynamic as top-secret agents facing inventive creature designs and great physical humor.
The 1990s produced plenty of classic sci-fi comedies, including some beloved returning franchises and some fresh new ideas. Many of the best sci-fi comedies of all time happen to be from the 1990s, including Galaxy Quest, Men in Black and Space Jam. Some of the best comedy actors and directors of the era turned their attention toward sci-fi in the 1990s, creating some timeless classics.
Sci-fi comedy often spoofs the genre's eccentricities, just like Mars Attacks and Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie. However, not all sci-fi comedy is inherently satirical in nature.

Six years later, Murphy and Butcher began a romantic partnership that’s gone on to produce two children: a daughter, Izzy, and a son, Max. The couple has never publicly tied the knot. But several recent clues indicate that the Coming to America star and his longtime love are married.

Every year on July 4, IMDb sees a huge surge of interest in Roland Emmerich’s sci-fi classic, ‘Independence Day,’ as indicated by page views. The film became the biggest box office hit of 1996, raking in $306 million domestically on a budget of $75 million. The competition wasn’t soft, either. Blockbusters like ‘Twister,’ ‘Mission: Impossible,’ ‘The Rock,’ and ‘The Nutty Professor’ were released the same year. In celebration of the film’s enduring popularity, IMDb has pulled together some of its favorite trivia to bring another layer of entertainment while watching (or rewatching) ‘Independence Day’ this year.
Here are some noteworthy fun facts, submitted by IMDb users:
‘Independence Day’ Holds the Record for Most Miniatures and Models in a Film
“Holds the record for most miniature model work to appear in one film. Model shop supervisor Michael Joyce estimated that more miniatures were used for this film than in any other two films combined. Due to the advances in digital technology since this film's release, most experts believe this record may stand forever.”
“The production's model-making department built more than twice as many miniatures for the production than had ever been built for any film before, by creating miniatures for buildings, city streets, aircraft, landmarks, and monuments. The crew also built miniatures for several of the spaceships featured in the film, including a thirty foot destroyer model, and a version of the mother ship spanning twelve feet.”
The Title ‘ID4’ Was Created to Avoid Legal Trouble
“The abbreviation "ID4" was invented due to legal problems with the title "Independence Day". Before 20th Century Fox reached a deal with Warner Bros. for the rights to the title, they suggested the film be called "Invasion", "Sky on Fire", "Doomsday", and "The End of The World", among others."
Area 51 Was a Touchy Subject with the U.S. Military
“According to producer/co-writer Dean Devlin, the U.S. military had agreed to support the film by allowing the crew to film at military bases, consulting the actors who have military roles, etc. However, after learning of the Area 51 references in the script, they withdrew their support.
Only One Real Airplane Was Flown on Screen
Except for the bi-plane during the crop-dusting scene, any airplane seen in the air in this film is either a model or computer-generated effect.
The Script Was Written in Four Weeks
Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich penned the script in four weeks. It was sent out on a Thursday, and they started fielding offers the next day. By Monday, they were in pre-production.

Eddie Murphy was a household name in the United States of America way before he forayed into films due to his standup comedy. But, if my memory isn’t failing me, he garnered international fame after his work in The Nutty Professor, Mulan, and Dr. Dolittle. And after he became the voice of Donkey in Shrek, every kid in the whole wide world became familiar with Murphy’s body of work. However, as the cinematic landscape, especially the comedy genre, started to change, and the pile of bad reviews turned into a mountain, Murphy decided to take a break. His return to the big screen wasn’t all that good. So, he took yet another break and returned with one of the best movies of all time, Dolemite Is My Name. Now, he seems to be in the mood to reprise some of his older roles. Comedy 2 America wasn’t good.

Axel Foley makes his glorious return to Beverly Hills this week with Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F gracing our home screens. And while Axel is one of Eddie Murphy’s most famous characters, there is no shortage of iconic roles from the comedian. Audiences have gravitated towards the likes of Axel, Reggie Hammond from 48 Hrs., Akeem from Coming to America, or even Chandler Gerald from The Golden Child. However, Murphy himself feels his best performance (or rather performances) comes from the 1996 remake of The Nutty Professor, in which he famously played the Klump family, minus the child, as well as a take on Richard Simmons.
In a new interview with The New York Times, Eddie reflects on his past performances. The interviewer brought up the film Bowfinger and praised Murphy’s performance (where he also played multiple roles as twins). However, Murphy still holds Nutty Professor at the top. The Beverly Hills Cop star stated,...

Eddie Murphy considers The Nutty Professor his best performance due to transformative makeups by Rick Baker. He believes few other actors could play the role of Sherman Klump like he did. Murphy has other iconic roles, including Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop and Donkey in the Shrek series.
Eddie Murphy explains why he thinks The Nutty Professor is his best performance of all time. A remake of the 1963 film of the same name, 1996's The Nutty Professor, sees Murphy playing Sherman Klump, an obese and lovable professor that discovers a unique chemical that magically induces his weight loss. In addition to Murphy, the film featured a leading cast including Jada Pinkett Smith, James Coburn, Larry Miller, Dave Chapelle, and John Ales. The Nutty Professor was well-liked during the time of its release, and inspired the sequel Nutty Professor II: The Klumps.

In the latest installment in the “Beverly Hills Cop” franchise, “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F,” premiering on Netflix next week, “Zola” star Taylour Paige plays daughter to Eddie Murphy’s classic character Axel Foley, but it seems she’d rather be taking on his older roles. A huge fan of Murphy’s reinterpretation of the Jerry Lewis comedy “The Nutty Professor,” she said in a recent piece for The New York Times that she couldn’t help but quote it back to him on repeat.
“I recited every line to him almost every day I shot with him,” Paige said. “I had a lot of questions, like, ‘How do you play six to eight people believably?’”
Paige has spoken previously of her admiration for Murphy. In a profile for Empire, she said, “I grew up watching ‘The Nutty Professor’ and ‘Dr. Dolittle.’ It was like I knew him — it was surreal.

Jerry Lewis wasn’t exactly the easiest person to please, as evidenced by *gestures to the countless stories of him being a raging infantile d-bag for no reason*. So remaking one of Lewis’ classic movies while he was still alive must have been a little like kicking a nest full of petty, misogynistic hornets.
The Nutty Professor was one of Lewis’ most famous comedies, telling the story of an incel scientist who concocts a serum that turns him into a handsome psychopath. Judging from the original trailer, this basic premise was considered a big twist back in 1963. Lewis even urged audiences to “not reveal the middle of this picture.”
The 1996 Eddie Murphy-starring version of The Nutty Professor originated with producer Brian Grazer. As Grazer recently told a classroom full of children during the “Story Corner” segment of John Mulaney’s Everybody’s in L.A., in order to land the rights to the film,...

Eddie Murphy definitely wasn’t going to pull a Keanu Reeves in “John Wick” for action-comedy film “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.”
Murphy said on the “Today” show that he “felt like (an) old man” when filming the fourth franchise installment. Murphy first played the titular Detroit detective who goes undercover in Los Angeles back in 1984.
“I did ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ when I was 21, and I’m 63 now,” Murphy said.
“Now, I would rather not do any stunts,” he said. “We were shooting something and the director [Mark Molloy] said, ‘I want you to come out of this place and run down those steps.’ And After we shot and he’s like, ‘Can you come down with more urgency and faster?’ And I was like, ‘No!’ I was like, ‘I’m not doing anything action. For Eddie Murphy, returning to his iconic Beverly Hills Cop role four decades after the original 1984 movie wasn’t as easy physically.
The actor, 63, opened up about reprising his character, Detroit detective Axel Foley, in the upcoming Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, during an appearance on the Today show Tuesday.

David Newman's score for the Firefly follow-up movie Serenity is now available for pre-order on vinyl. Screen Rant interviewed Newman about his work on the movie. Newman reflects on the challenges of creating the score for the film, showcasing his innovative approach to musical storytelling.
The 2005 sci-fi film Serenity had to strike an impossible balance, both catering to the exceptionally dedicated cult following of a one-season TV show while still welcoming moviegoers who had no idea what Firefly was. Creatively, it succeeded, but underwhelming box office numbers quieted talks of a sequel. Nearly 20 years later, and the cast of that moviepeople like Nathan Fillion (The Rookie), Morena Baccarin (Deadpool), Summer Glau (Arrow), and Gina Torres (Suits)are still regularly asked if, when, and how they will reprise their roles.
It's somewhat on brand, then, that composer David Newmans score for the movie is finally making it to vinyl courtesy of Varse Sarabande.

Eddie Murphy apparently had his work cut out for him with his new onscreen daughter.
The actor’s Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F co-star Taylour Paige revealed her favorite part about working with Murphy on the long-overdue followup to his action comedy trilogy that all began in 1984.
“I grew up watching The Nutty Professor and Dr. Dolittle. It was like I knew him — it was surreal,” she told Empire of working with the Saturday Night Live alum.
“The objective was to try and get the man who made the world laugh to laugh,” added Paige. “I found it quite fun to crack him.”
She explained that her goal was to keep things light on the set of the comedy. “The world often feels like it’s in a chronic coma,” Paige said. “And without being too grandiose, I want to be a part of something which helps people to snap out of it.

When you’re making the fourth film in a long-running franchise, it can be hard to keep things funny and fresh. For Taylour Paige, though, her objective in taking on the role of estranged daughter to Eddie Murphy’s Axel Foley in the latest installment of the “Beverly Hills Cop” series was to keep things light and produce entertainment that does the same for others. Speaking to Empire for a recent profile, Paige said desire comes from how she sees the world right now.
“The world often feels like it’s in a chronic coma,” Paige said. “And without being too grandiose, I want to be a part of something which helps people to snap out of it.”
Part of why she thinks “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” will do that is because of the effect her co-star Eddie Murphy had on her. She said, “I grew up watching ‘The Nutty Professor’ and ‘Dr.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F's new blood breaks down her Hollywood past and future.
“The world often feels like it’s in a chronic coma,” Taylour Paige tells Empire. “And without being too grandiose, I want to be a part of something which helps people to snap out of it.” As far as acting-career mission statements go, this is surely as novel as it is ambitious. But in the months to come, Paige may well live up to it, whether she’s going toe-to-toe with a comedy legend or playing a highly unconventional corruption-avenging hero.
First we’ll be seeing Paige as Eddie Murphy’s estranged daughter in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. After a stellar 1989, the Hollywood box office of 1990 was expected to be even better – but the film industry got taught some tough lessons.
Browsing the worldwide box office charts for 1989, and many a major studio executive would have been stroking their chin with some degree of comfort. The same old was working. The new things were working. Everything was getting better. The Christmas party was clearly going to be on the impressive side.
What 1989 had proven, after all, was the growing feeling that big stuff worked too. Tim Burton’s Batman had firmly introduced the idea of the huge opening weekend at the box office, and that a movie could become a cultural phenomenon. That patrons would leave the cinema and promptly seek out the soundtrack, the computer game, the book, the T-shirt, the novelty undercrackers.

As summer approaches (for the Northern Hemisphere at least), Netflix is set to premiere a fresh season of one of its biggest hits.
Brigerton season 3 is set to arrive on May 16 and will debut a “new crop of debutantes” into the regency drama fray. Other original series of note this month include Indian drama Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (May 1), the Jeff Daniels-starring A Man in Full (May 2), and intriguing Korean title The 8 Show (May 17). Of course, Netflix is also rolling out a suite of true crime docs and docuseries as well. Chief among those options is Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal on May 15.
It’s the movie side of things where Netflix is feeling particularly lively though. May 3 sees the arrival of Jerry Seinfeld Pop Tart comedy Unfrosted. That will be followed by rom-com Mother of the Bride (May 9) and the Jennifer Lopez-starring Atlas (May 24).

When one sees Eddie Murphy, they won’t be amiss to recall the name Axel Foley. The American comedian has made a name for himself starring in the Beverly Hills Cop movies, a franchise that went on to entertain fans for decades.
Even Gen Z knows the legends of Beverly Hills Cop. But for Murphy himself, the name rings both good and bad memories. And well, the idea that he could have worked with Quentin Tarantino on the fabled project.

It’s been almost 4 decades since the Og Beverly Hills Cop hit the theatres. But Eddie Murphy still can’t do away with the desire to essay the role of the cop. It shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone, considering that back in the 80s he owned the role of Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop.

The Hollywood stars have been in the limelight all their lives, either for their careers or for their marriage. The Bleed All Over Me singer has never shied from revealing certain aspects of their relationship that would make readers blush. Jerry Lewis was the comedic legend who starred in dozens of films, remaining active until his death at 91 in 2017. But how many of those titles, many of which he also wrote and directed, remain classics? Let’s take a look back at 15 of his greatest movies, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1926, Lewis initially gained attention as one half of the team Martin and Lewis, opposite future Rat Packer Dean Martin. The combination of Martin as the lady-killing straight man and Lewis as the spastic goofball started as a night club act and a radio program. They appeared in 17 films together before their breakup in 1956.
He went on to star in, direct, and write a series of slapstick comedies laced with hints of sentimentality. In titles such as “The Bellboy” (1960), “The Ladies Man” (1961), “The Nutty Professor” (1963), and “The Patsy” (1964), Lewis played a lovable, rubber-faced dork who won our hearts while grating on our nerves.

This lineup is the category’s second in a row to include a 54% first-timer majority, thus constituting a new trend after 70% remained the norm for the preceding half decade. The present rookie subset consists of “Golda” trio Suzi Battersby, Karen Hartley Thomas, and Ashra Kelly-Blue as well as one artist from each other film: Luisa Abel (“Oppenheimer”), Ana López-Puigcerver (“Society of the Snow”), Lori McCoy-Bell (“Maestro”), and Josh Weston (“Poor Things”).
McCoy-Bell and Weston share their respective nominations with Kazu Hiro and Mark Coulier, each of whom succeeded on two of his previous four outings. While Coulier won for “The Iron Lady” (2012) and “The Grand Budapest Hotel...

Jada Pinkett Smith's death scene in Scream 2 is one of the most memorable and violent in the franchise. Scream 2 comments on the nature of horror franchises and their inevitable sequels of varying quality. Pinkett Smith wanted her character to have the most horrific death in a horror film, and her request was fulfilled in a brutal and shocking scene.
Jada Pinkett Smith appears in Scream 2 (1997) in a supporting role, but her death scene is one of the more memorable in the franchise. The Scream horror franchise encompasses six movies that are parodies, homages, and quintessential examples of slasher films and horror franchises in general. Scream movies have always delighted in sending up horror tropes while still being frightening and intense stories themselves, and Scream 2 ups the meta aspects even more than the first movie. After the events of the first film, the survivors are now...

Eddie Murphy’s 28-Year-Old Sci-Fi Comedy Callback Makes Jane's Shocking Mr & Mrs Smith Story Weirder
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Mr. and Mrs. Smith episode 1!
The TV show Mr. and Mrs. Smith adds a creepy layer to a character by referencing a 90s sci-fi comedy classic starring Eddie Murphy. Unlike the 2005 film, the main characters in the TV show are spies pretending to be married. They know nothing about each other's personal lives. The man in Jane's backstory refers to himself as "Buddy Love," a reference to Eddie Murphy's character in The Nutty Professor, implying that he knew he was being creepy.
A hidden reference to a '90s sci-fi comedy classic starring Eddie Murphy during Mr. and Mrs. Smith's first episode adds a creepier layer to one character. Donald Glover's new show based on the homonymous 2005 film premiered February 2nd on Prime Video and has been well received by critics. Besides having co-created the show with Francesca Sloane, Glover stars in the series alongside Maya Erskine.

As Hollywood neared the midpoint of the 1980s, the industry had abandoned the risk-taking ethos of the 1970s and unabashedly embraced formula filmmaking. Stars still mattered, but the pitch was king. Studio executives keen on becoming their generation's Jack Warner, Daryl Zanuck and Louis B. Mayer were through humoring unpredictable auteurs like Martin Scorsese and Hal Ashby. They wanted can't-miss high-concept projects powered by high-wattage stars that could play for months on end in theaters because, despite the skyrocketing value of home video and pay cable channels, theatrical was still king.
"Beverly Hills Cop" traversed a rocky path from inception to production, but producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer doggedly developed and re-developed the project until they paired a 23-year-old comedy superstar with a once-hot director who'd two years prior gotten himself fired off "WarGames." The particulars of the fish-out-of-water plot shifted many times over the years (it was nearly...
