Way back in March of 1927, famed writer Hp Lovecraft wrote the science-fiction/horror short story The Colour Out of Space. In the story, a meteorite crashes in the fictional town of Arkham, Massachusetts. Fifty years later, the people who lived there suffered greatly. Their crops grow bountiful but rotten on the inside, their animals become mutated, and eventually, they themselves are driven to insanity and death. Not only was this Lovecraft’s favorite personal short story but would become one of his most well-regarded works. Sixty years later, in 1987, a film based on Lovecraft’s short story went into production under the title The Farm. What would follow was the financial failure of a movie with stories behind the scenes more grotesque than its monsters. Yet, it still somehow spawned three even more unheard-of and totally unconnected sequels. This is the story of What the F*ck Happened to The Curse?...

It is hard to believe (for people of a certain age), but the year 1994 was 30 years ago! For this week’s poll, we wanted to step back into the time machine and reminisce about what could possibly be considered one of the best years in cinema history. If, like me, you are in your thirties, 1994 holds a nostalgic place due to movies such as Blank Check, D2: The Mighty Ducks, Major League 2, Clifford, The Flintstones, Getting Even With Dad, Little Big League, Angels in the Outfield, The Little Rascals, Camp Nowhere, Richie Rich and Little Giants. The year also represented the huge breakout of comedy legend Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber were all released during that single calendar year.
But it wasn’t just movies aimed at a child’s heart that were released in 1994. The year also saw some genuine...

Actor Charlie Sheen played a few memorable roles in his career, one being the character Rick “Wild Thing” Vaughn in the movie Major League. More than three decades after the film’s release Sheen is still being asked about that role and he’s more than happy to talk about it. However, he’s not keen on Major League II and described parts of the sequel as “unwatchable.”
Here’s more on that, plus Sheen’s thoughts on a Major League remake.

Sanaa Lathan's breakout performance came when she starred opposite Omar Epps in the 2000 romantic sports drama "Love & Basketball." Her character, Monica Wright, desires to become the first woman to play in the NBA, but her love for basketball is challenged by her relationship with Quincy McCall (Epps), who is the bigger hoops phenom of the two and at one point expects Monica to prioritize him and their relationship over her commitment to the game.

This June on HBO and HBO Max will play host to a new season of “Westworld,” a new adaptation of “Father of the Bride” and much more.
The big new Warner Bros. release on HBO and HBO Max this month is “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” which actually debuted on the HBO Max streaming service on May 30. With its list of new releases for June 2022, HBO Max is joining in what should be a TV summer to remember.
Not content to let Netflix’s Stranger Things or Prime Video’s The Boys to dominate the summer TV landscape, HBO is coming through with a new season of one of its big hits. Westworld season 4 is set to premiere June 26 on both HBO and HBO Max. What will this season of the increasingly confusing sci-fi drama be about? Per HBO’s synopsis it will be “A dark odyssey about the fate of sentient life on earth.” So you know, only that.
Irma Vep is the only other Max Original of note this month. Based on a 1996 cult classic of the same name, this limited series stars Alicia Vikander as a disillusioned movie star looking to remake the early 20th century French silent film serial Les Vampires.

There are few surefire successes in television. It just so happens that with its new releases for May 2020, Hulu almost certainly found itself one. May 8 sees the debut of all eight episodes of Solar Opposites, the latest sci-fi animated effort from Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland. This is a brand new story featuring a family of aliens crashing to Earth and learning to live amongst the rest of us weirdos. But the animation style and sci-fi themes hew so closely to Rick and Morty that there’s no way this won’t be a hit.
On the off chance Solar Opposites doesn’t set the world ablaze, Hulu has some other intriguing content lottery tickets for May. The Great premieres on May 15 and is a comedic period piece about Catherine the Great starring Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult. You can’t accuse Hulu of not taking big swings this month!

Spooky season is upon us, and Hulu is getting into the spirit with a number of horror or Halloween-themed offerings on its October line-up.
Along with Hulu originals like the horror anthology “Into the Dark” and the second season of Stephen King’s “Castle Rock,” the streamer is also offering films from the “Saw,” “Blade” and “Hellraiser” franchises beginning next month. Baseball is back! And somewhat early this year too. With Opening Day arriving March 29, it’s time to get into the spirit of the season with some of the biggest baseball movies that all hit a commercial home run. These are the highest grossing baseball movies of all time, ranked from lowest to highest. 20. “Mr. 3000” – $21.8 million Bernie Mac plays a former baseball great who returns to the league at age 47 after learning he was just a few hits shy of 3000. 19. “Major League II” – $30.6 million Charlie Sheen, Corbin Bernsen and Tom Berenger all came back...

These days, we're all jaded and amused when it comes to scandals in baseball, but 25 years ago this week (on September 2, 1988) came a movie that reminded us of a time when we were actually shocked over events that tarnished the reputation of the national pastime. With a cast led by rising stars John Cusack, Charlie Sheen, and D.B. Sweeney, "Eight Men Out" recounted the story of the 1919 Black Sox scandal, in which gamblers paid several players on the Chicago White Sox to throw the World Series against the Cincinnati Reds.
Writer/director John Sayles, adapting Eliot Asinof's book of the same title, portrayed the Black Sox players as exploited workers out to punish their skinflint owner and claim bonuses that had been denied them. And while they did so in a way that was illegal and unsportsmanlike, they were meted out an awfully harsh punishment (being banned from the...

So, Charlie Sheen’s Gathering of the Juggalos performance in Detroit Saturday night went about as well as you’d expect: booing, trash-throwing, wild cheering, repeat. Based on the fact he didn’t leave looking like past performers Tila Tequila and Method Man, we’d consider Charlie’s set the the Insane Clown Posse’s music fest a success, as well as a deeply rational career move and, quite possibly, his true calling.
Hopefully, the image of the Major League II star snatching garbage out of the nighttime sky like a crazy ninja will be great fodder for Charlie Sheen’s roast, airing September 16. “It’s not like you can take any of it personally. I’m actually looking forward to how creative they can get.”" Sheen told E! Online. “I’ve got my work brain back in my head. Welcome back work brain, I missed you.” Ohhh, maybe the...

Sports Illustrated looked back on 22 years of Major League by interviewing nearly everyone involved in the making of the sports classic with one notable exception: the incarcerated Wesley Snipes. Not that he would have wanted to contribute anyway. "A couple years after Major League I saw Wesley," recalled co-star Corbin Bernsen. "I said, "Hey, man, they're gonna make Major League II!" And he was like, 'You're gonna do that?' And I thought, 'Wow, how quickly they forget.' He'd become Wesley Snipes. That rubbed me the wrong way." [Sports Illustrated]...

Having been busy with his Torpedo Tour, Charlie Sheen spared some time to stop by Boston radio station the Sports Hub 98.5 Wbz-fm on Tuesday night, April 12 to talk about "Two and a Half Men". The 45-year-old, who has been fired from the CBS series in March, revealed that he has had discussions with his former bosses about returning to the show.
"There's been discussions," Sheen admitted, but he could not share further because he "was asked not to divulge anything." While in the past he reportedly boasted that his personal issue could not get him fired, he now shows a more humble attitude. "Had they told me at the end of Season 8 that that behavior wasn't going to be cool, I would have adjusted it," he said as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter.
During the interview, Sheen also claimed that he was not paid his portion of the syndication profits...

During the midst of a personal shame spiral that has included drunken, naked hotel rampages, asking porn stars to babysit, checking into rehab, and ultimately admitting that sobriety "bores" him, Charlie Sheen is going back to work on his TV show Two and Half Men and wants to get back on the big screen as well. Sheen told TMZ, otherwise known as the "Charlie Sheen News Network", that he is doing "everything in his power" to get a greenlight for another Major League sequel.

Charlie Sheen is set to star in a third 'Major League' movie. The troubled actor - who is currently receiving treatment at home for a drug addiction problem which led to a hiatus of his TV show 'Two and a Half Men' - has been asked to bring back 'Wild Thing' Rick Vaughn for a third movie in the sport comedy series. Director David S. Ward has confirmed a story is in place for the comedy movie, which would be a follow-up to 1994's 'Major League II'. He said: "It's 20 years later and Charlie's character has been out of baseball since he gave up the walk-off homerun in the seventh game of the World Series. "But the team wants him back to mentor this young fireballing relief pitcher." David confirms the 45-year-old star is "interested" in the role and production could get underway soon. He added to The...

Before the media started only focus on his Everest-sized mountains of coke and his habit of collecting porn stars in hotel rooms, Charlie Sheen was known as an actor. More importantly, before being stuck on the humorless black hole known as Two and a Half Men, Sheen was a movie actor, making great films like Platoon, Wall Street and Eight Men Out. His most popular character, however, was Ricky "Wild Thing" Vaughn, the out-of-control pitcher from Major League. But while the first film is a sports movie classic, Major League II and Major League: Back To The Minors aren't worth the film that they are printed on (Sheen wasn't in the third film, but it needs to be said). Still everyone loves "Wild Thing" and perhaps it could be the project that brings Sheen back to respectability. The actor recently spoke on TMZ Live where he revealed that he is...

American character actor known for his tough-guy roles in westerns and on television
With a voice that sounded as if it were strained through gravel chipped from his craggy face, James Gammon, who has died of cancer aged 70, had a memorable presence as a character actor in crime films, rural dramas and especially westerns, from A Man Called Horse (1970) to Urban Cowboy (1980), Silverado (1985), Wyatt Earp (1994), Wild Bill (1995) and Appaloosa (2008). Ed Harris, who directed and starred in Appaloosa, said of Gammon: "If he'd been born 20 years earlier he'd have been in every other western ever made."
Gammon had a perpetual squint that could be interpreted as crazy or wise – or both. His best-known role was as the unflappable baseball manager Lou Brown in the comedy Major League (1989). On television, he played Don Johnson's father in the series Nash Bridges from 1996 to 2001. Gammon's ability to reveal an essential weakness, and the...

Annie Barrett asked me to take over her Lunchtime Pollster duties while she’s on vacation in Canada or wherever. (Actually, she just left a post-it note on my computer screen: “Do My Job For Me, Nerd!”) Like most people, I spent the weekend waiting in line to see Batman Minus Batman Inception. No spoilers here, but I do have one question: Is Christopher Nolan running a Career Renewal Center? As far as me and my friend IMDb can figure, Inception is the first time that Tom Berenger has starred in a major Hollywood release since Major League II, in...

Ok, there's a new "Highway Chase" clip from 'Knight and Day' out, But, check out the part when Tom Cruise lands on the car and shifts from the middle of the hood to the left. Is Cameron shocked at his stunning move or is she wondering how the hell he time-shifted from one part of the car to the other? Reminds me of a scene in "Major League II" where Willie Mays Hayes (Omar Epps) and Jesse Ventura team in the B-movie flick-styled "Black Thunder, White Lightning." Come on, you know the part. Still, the James Mangold ("Walk the Line," "3:10 to Yuma" revamp) film does look entertaining enough to warrant a view in cinemas. Also in the cast are Maggie Grace, Peter Sarsgaard, Marc Blucas, Paul Dano, Viola Davis, Jordi Mollà and Dale Dye. Catrch it in theaters on June 23rd.

Today Universal released Get Him to the Greek, a sort-of sequel to 2008's Forgetting Sarah Marshall as it uses Aldous Snow who had a small role in the original. Beyond that, there is only a brief reference to Sarah Marshall, which has me thinking it's not really a sequel as much as it is a spin-off. The same could be said for a movie like Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001)... Same characters, but not really a sequel to Clerks, which ended up having its own sequel in 2006.
In a debate with a group of fellow Seattle critics trying to decide if Get Him to the Greek was a sequel to Forgetting Sarah Marshall or not, the topic turned to comedy sequels in general and I was asked to name a great comedy sequel. Should be easy... right?

Usually when an actor or filmmaker reveals who inspired them in their creation of a character, it's the type of politically correct answer sure to offend no one. Johnny Depp had no problem explaining how he channeled Keith Richards for his role as Jack Sparrow in "Pirates of the Caribbean"; Dustin Hoffman sent up his pal, producer Robert Evans, in "Wag the Dog." But in a business where backbiting is common and screenwriters are urged to "write what you know," it's been a longstanding tradition to say the cruelest things about others under the guise of art. In a summer that will have Tom Cruise applying his considerable cackle to a Sumner Redstone surrogate in "Tropic Thunder" and a manscaping-derelict Bruce Willis doing his meanest Alec Baldwin impression in the adaptation of producer Art Linson's Hollywood tell-all, "What Just Happened?", we thought it was high time...

When adventurous treasure hunters Rick and Evelyn O'Connell return for their third film, this summer's "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," one of them will look a bit different than they had previously. That's because Evelyn was once played by Rachel Weisz, who passed on this sequel and was replaced by Maria Bello. Likewise, the relationship between Bruce Wayne and Rachel Dawes from "Batman Begins" continues in this summer's "The Dark Knight," without Katie Holmes; Maggie Gyllenhaal fills in there.
It's a busy year for actors replacing other actors in sequels . we've already had a new Hulk (Edward Norton) and this fall, we'll have a new Punisher to match (Ray Stevenson) . so it's a good time to look back at some of the most notable substitutes. Sometimes new actors in old roles can make a huge impact; Antonio Banderas broke through with American audiences with "Desperado,...
