As a favor to Dennis Hopper, Dean Stockwell, who plays Stig the car salesman, shot his scenes for free.
The interior shots of the "navy offices and warehouse" were shot at the Square D Production Facility in Columbia, South Carolina. They also used employees of the plant as extras.
The plot mirrors The Last Detail (1973) which starred Dennis Hopper's Easy Rider (1969) co-star Jack Nicholson.
Dennis Hopper's wife, Victoria Duffy, played the Navy office worker who gets the flowers at the beginning.
