Martin Scorsese may be revered as one of our greatest living filmmakers, but he has often had to fight tooth and nail to bring his visions to the big screen. This is largely due to the box office. Yes, "Raging Bull," "The King of Comedy," and "Goodfellas" are considered masterpieces, but they were not hits in theatrical release. So when, after being continuously passed over for Academy Award recognition, he set his sights on making his mobbed-up magnum opus "Gangs of New York," just about every studio in town declined to bankroll his dream.
It wasn't like he'd sprung the project on the film industry. Alberto Grimaldi, the renowned Italian producer of classics by Federico Fellini, Sergio Leone, and Bernardo Bertolucci, had taken out an ad announcing the production of the film way back in 1977. But when the New Hollywood revolution died with the bank-breaking failure of Michael Cimino's...

Umberto Lenzi’s Nightmare Beach is a prime slice of late-’80s Italian horror filmmaking. Though it may not be as visually stylish as Dario Argento’s Opera or Michele Soavi’s The Church, the film nevertheless delivers the goods sought after by genre aficionados: set pieces of gory violence and unabashed nudity, a raucous heavy metal-infused soundtrack, and a complete disregard for conventional narrative logic. What’s more, in typically Italian fashion, Lenzi’s film gleefully smashes together various genre tropes in engagingly unpredictable fashion.

Despite being hailed by Martin Scorsese as one of the best Italian films of the 1990s, Cemetery Man is criminally underseen. Also known as Dellamorte Dellamore, the 1994 cult classic has been hard to come by in the US since Anchor Bay’s 2006 DVD went out of print, but Severin Films has revived it with a 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray edition.
Dario Argento protégé Michele Soavi directs from a script by Gianni Romoli, based on the 1991 novel Dellamorte Dellamore by Tiziano Sclavi — itself a precursor to Sclavi’s influential Italian horror comic Dylan Dog. Rupert Everett (My Best Friend’s Wedding), on whom the Dylan Dog character was visually based, takes on the lead role as Francesco Dellamorte.
As he explains in the noir-esque opening narration, Dellamorte is the watchman for a small town cemetery wherein “some people, on the seventh night after their death, come back to life.” He and his slow-witted but genial assistant,...

The Hangman opens with a nod to Fulci’s The Beyond, as a title card informs us that there are seven known gateways to Hell. The one we’re concerned with here isn’t under a hotel in New Orleans, though, it’s somewhere in a nameless part of the mountains of West Virginia.
That’s followed by some cultists pulling something out of that portal, a creature we then see transform a couple of junkies from strung out to strung up. Meet The Hangman.
Oblivious to all of this, Leon and his son Jesse are going on a father and son weekend in the mountains. Unfortunately, the first night goes badly, ending in recriminations over the death...

After making his inordinately stylish and often hilarious slasher film Stagefright, Dario Argento protégé Michele Soavi teamed up with the maestro for 1987’s The Church, a hallucinatory gothic concoction that was originally intended as the third entry in the Demons series before Lamberto Bava passed the directorial torch to Soavi. Although vastly different in tone and atmosphere than the Bava films, The Church still bears distinct traces of their core idea: Ravening demons are inadvertently let loose to run gruesomely amok within a confined space, in this instance a gothic cathedral located somewhere in Germany.
Where the Demons films take visual media as their primary mode of representation, Soavi and co-writers Argento and Franco Ferrini imbue The Church with a literary bent, which is apt for a story that centers around the interpretation of medieval texts. What’s more, the film overtly references works as disparate as M.R. James’s...

Davies hints at shocking answers to Ruby Sunday's parentage mystery in Doctor Who season 14. Ruby's parentage is likely to play a key role and was inspired by the Timeless Child arc, hinting at a rich mythology. The reveal is sure to be a prominent storyline in both Doctor Who season 14 and 15.
Doctor Who writer and showrunner Russell T Davies has teased that the show's Ruby Sunday parentage reveal could prove to be a shock. Davies, who helmed the revival of the show back in 2005-2010, before returning to the franchise in 2023, has overseen production of the first four series of the show, alongside five specials, before returning to oversee the Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials, and the franchise's move to Disney+. Doctor Who season 14 will star Fifteenth Doctor Ncuti Gatwa, with Millie Gibson to co-star as companion Ruby Sunday, a girl who is abandoned as a baby.

For his second feature film—and first full collaboration with co-writer/producer/mentor Dario Argento—writer-director Michele Soavi unleashes a “mind-blowing” (Bloody Disgusting), “breathtaking” (Slant), “masterwork” (DVD Drive-In), now in Uhd for the first time ever: In a Gothic cathedral built on the mass grave of a Teutonic purge, an ancient discovery by the new librarian will release an unholy maelstrom of madness, violence, and demonic vengeance. Tomas Arana (The Sect), Feodor Chaliapin (Inferno), Hugh Quarshie (Nightbreed), Barbara Cupisti (Cemetery Man), and Asia Argento co-star in this Italian horror milestone co-written by Franco Ferrini (Phenomena), with a Soavi-approved 4K scan from the original negative and over three hours of special features—including new interviews with Soavi and Argento.

Although people expected happy box office news following the release of two fresh titles – Dev Patel’s Monkey Man and Disney’s The First Omen, it unfortunately wasn’t the case. Making a surprisingly weak entry, which brought the weekend total to a lower-than-expected scenario, the two movies failed to snatch Sydney Sweeney’s position as box office Queen.
Sydney Sweeney in Immaculate
Celebrating big news as Immaculate, achieved a remarkable milestone, despite low expectations, Sydney Sweeney appears to continue her trend of delivering silent hits, like her previous film, Anyone But You. Saving the box office single-handedly, Sweeney appears to be on her way to topple Dev Patel’s film, as it failed to revive the box-office despite optimistic predictions.

When Italian horror comes to mind, it’s the unholy trifecta of Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci, and Mario and Lamberto Bava that dominate the discussion. However, Michele Soavi is another essential – albeit underrated – Italian horror savant from the ‘80s and ‘90s who cut his teeth as Argento and Fulci’s apprentice, before ascending to become their peer through formative films like StageFright and Dellamorte Dellamore (aka Cemetery Man). Soavi has a flair and appreciation for immersive and complex camera visuals, intimidating antagonists, and gruesome gore, all of which are on display in the director’s most polarizing film, The Church, which now celebrates its 35th anniversary.
This cinematic achievement began as Demons 3, the third film in Argento and Lamberto Bava’s popular supernatural horror series. However, the horror sequel soon pivoted into an original project early on in its production after Bava walked and Soavi took over and completely rewrote the script.

New horror movies are headed to Shudder next month, including horror anthology Satanic Hispanics and tense Australian horror movie You’ll Never Find Me. And that doesn’t even touch on the repertory additions, including rare ’90s gem Ghostwatch.

The horror movie assembles five tales of terror from Mike Mendez (Big Ass Spider), Alejandro Brugués (Juan of the Dead), Gigi Saul Guerrero (Culture Shock), Eduardo Sanchez (The Blair Witch Project), and Demian Rugna (When Evil Lurks, Terrified) unite in the first all-Latino horror anthology.
An isolated man living at the back of a desolate caravan park is visited by a desperate young woman seeking shelter from a violent storm in You’ll Never Find Me. As the savage storm worsens, these solitary souls begin to feel threatened – but who should really be afraid? Find out on March 22.

Dario Argento Panico takes its title from an old interview where he said he didn’t want to create a sense of fear in viewers, he wanted to go beyond it and leave them in a state of panic. Its form is also taken from its subject’s past, following him as he isolates himself in a hotel to finish his latest script, something he frequently did early in his career.

This article contains spoilers for the Doctor Who Christmas Special, "The Church on Ruby Road"
Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor is a powerful and attention-commanding character, comparable to David Tennant's Doctor. The Fifteenth Doctor goes clubbing, showcasing a joyful and raver personality that is different from previous incarnations. Gatwa's Doctor is the most musical Doctor yet, as seen in a musical number used to distract the Goblin King, potentially hinting at a future musical episode in Doctor Who season 14.
Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor has already done two things no other Doctor would do in the history of Doctor Who. Ncuti Gatwa was introduced as the Fifteenth Doctor in the final 60th anniversary special, "The Giggle," in which he unexpectedly teamed up with Fourteenth Doctor David Tennant against the Toymaker. Comedian Joey Diaz and co-host Lee Syatt are back in podcast land with a brand new podcast that premiered today. Diaz and Syatt had a podcast a couple years ago called “The Church of What’s Happening Now” And now they are back with “The Check In” which will have weekly episodes every Tuesday.
I first saw Joey Diaz on Joe Rogan’s podcast a couple years before Covid. I was super happy to find out that Joey had a podcast, which fans call “The Church”. Diaz’s comedy, and his ability to tell a story have always captivated me, because I can picture what he is talking about. Diaz recently released a book titled ” Tremendous” that was co-authored by Erica Florentine. You can get that book at this link. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=joey+diaz+tremendous&hvadid=616188471970&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9007477&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=10459903252042347011&hvtargid=kwd-1721758815978&hydadcr...

Jules Dassin’s powerful picture was a hit in Europe but remained mostly obscure here, despite featuring the great Melina Mercouri and a score of Continental stars. Adapted by two blacklistees in exile it doesn’t try to hide its revolutionary aims — Nikos Kazantzakis’s uncompromised storyline places The Church as a main obstruction to social progress, justice, and life & liberty. It’s no wonder it wasn’t ‘movie of the week’ in 1957. It’s been beautifully remastered at its original CinemaScope width, uncut.

Since Covid began last year, there has been one voice that I constantly looked forward to hearing week after week. And that voice belonged to comedian Joey Diaz. Diaz has been a stand-up comic with thirty years of experiences and stories. Along with his stories and jokes, Diaz also goes out of his way to answer questions and advise about life and comedy. I have been a fan of Joey Diaz since first seeing him on the Joe Rogan Podcast two or three years ago. I was super excited to find out that at the time, Diaz had a podcast at the time called, The Church of what’s Happening Now, which he co-hosted with Lee Syatt. Since Covid occurred, The Church wrapped up last year, and Lee Syatt is still doing podcasts. Be sure to look him up on YouTube and other platforms. Last year Joey Diaz moved back...

This article contains spoilers for The Boys Season 2 finale.
Ok, who saw that coming? The Boys waited until the very last moments of its Season 2 finale, ‘What I Know’, to finally reveal the identity of its mysterious head-popper after quickly dismissing the leading prime suspect, Vought International CEO Stan Edgar, and now we know whodunnit – Victoria Neuman, the show’s whip smart Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez-esque Congresswoman and Butcher gang ally.
In a cracking, extremely satisfying finale that brought us a huge helping of delightful moments – Billy’s parting advice to Ryan! Starlight and Hughie’s sweet embrace! Mm reuniting with his family! Kimiko and Frenchie communicating for real! Homelander’s highly anticipated and utterly ludicrous alfresco crywank! – Neuman’s unique supe emerged as the cherry on top. But the reveal left us with a few lingering questions about Neuman’s motivations and endgame.

Based on the highly successful manga of the same name by Ryo Ikehata and Hagane Tsuguri, “Calamity of a Zombie Girl” was turned into an anime in 2018 by production companies Gonzo and Stingray. Whereas the light novel consists of several volumes, the anime has a duration of 74 minutes but offers the same blend of horror and teenage drama. For those unfamiliar with the source material, you will find a lot of references to all kinds of horror movies, from the slasher sub-genre to more European horror, indicated by the anime’s overall design as well as the fair amount of gore.
However, at its core the anime tells the story of a group of college students who decide to break into one of the buildings on their campus during summer break. Being all members of the Occult Research Club, their leader Sayaka has convinced them there will...

The producers of Jeopardy! said today that a “human error” in post-production was responsible for a contestant’s answer being ruled incorrect in Friday’s episode.
Read their statement below, followed by a video of the question and answer that they say should have aired instead.
The show created an uproar on social media after a $200 “answer” in “Where’s That Church?” category that read, “Built in the 300s A.D., the Church of the Nativity.” Contestant Katie Needle buzzed in first and replied, “What is Palestine?” Host Alex Trebek said that was incorrect. Another contestant then rang in and answered “What is Israel?,” and that was affirmed.
The Church of the Nativity, a World Heritage Site, is located in Bethlehem in the Israeli-controlled West Bank. Many countries including the U.S. and most of the European Union do not recognize Palestine as a state.

The James Wan-led “Conjuring Universe” is filled with creepy houses, family turmoil, possessed children (The Conjuring 2), and children’s toys & games gone wrong (both Annabelle films). Besides the fact that The Nun takes place in 1952 which is well before the other four films in this universe, the film brings a stark change of environment by setting the scares in a monastery compared to the usual family households. Of course, with this eerie setting, a whole new style of scares and creepy imagery await audiences anticipating this scary new entry in the series.
The Nun follows the evil entity first introduced in The Conjuring 2. But before seeing the film when it opens this Friday, September 7th, let’s dive into a world of religious horror filled with nasty nuns, satanic spirits, and malevolent monasteries. Holy hell, let’s pray we make it out alive!

You’ve done every film related job from producer and actor to cinematographer and editor. Was directing always the goal?
Poverty dictates…I would just take any position I could and figure it out from there, especially when I made The Queen Of Hollywood Blvd. where I just didn’t have the budget and had to take on as many positions as I could. Directing was always the ultimate goal though. Funny enough, the genesis of Hell came from a job I had done years before when I was camera operating on a feature film The Ganzfeld Experiment. It was a crazy production, and my dad was the director. The line producer of Ganzfeld was Julio Hallivis. We became friends and stayed in touch. Cut to five years later, I show Julio my first film The Queen of Hollywood Blvd. and he says “Hey man, I got a script I think you will dig.

If your dad was Mario Bava, master of light and originator of the giallo film as we know it, you’d have a hard time following in his footsteps too; yet that is precisely what Lamberto Bava chose to do. He made some good ones right out of the gate: Macabre (1980) and A Blade in the Dark (’83) have their fans, but it was the fantastic Demons (’85) that brought him international attention. One lackluster sequel later and he was more or less relegated to the sidelines, where he found solace in Italian TV; he signed a four picture deal for a series of films under the umbrella High Tension, and the first one out of the gate was The Prince of Terror (’88), which was deemed too gruesome and shelved until 1999. I can understand why, because it does contain several gory set pieces, implied rape, and strong language. Oh, and it’s also insane and entertainingly weird.
