Any time any publication or site puts out a new list of what they consider the best action movies of all time, it can’t help but generate a ton of controversy. Even the greatest and most talented illustrators have to start somewhere when creating a character, and it's no different for the craftspeople working for Walt Disney Animation Studios. In the cases of "Bambi" and "Dumbo," for example, if you check out the 1941 film "The Reluctant Dragon" (a movie that was itself bizarrely censored for one particular animated detail), you can see animators literally watching how deer and elephants move so they can accurately capture those minute details in designing the titular characters.

Steve Martin’s movie career is replete with comedy classics such as The Jerk, Roxanne and Father of the Bride, in which Martin and Martin Short appear in several scenes together and somehow resist the urge to relentlessly roast each other.

But he also made a number of not-so-memorable comedies. One movie that didn’t make much of a cultural dent was Sgt. Bilko, the 1996 remake of the ‘50s sitcom The Phil Silvers Show. The story of a scheming, amoral U.S. army sergeant flopped at the box office, and has since been largely forgotten. Even Martin himself wasn’t a fan.

In retrospect, perhaps the most interesting thing about Sgt. Bilko is that the filmmakers ended up feuding with the U.S. military while making it.

It’s not uncommon for Hollywood movies to negotiate deals with the Pentagon that allow them to use real-life military equipment and facilities in exchange for certain concessions.

Tom Cruise, undoubtedly, continues to be one of the biggest enigmas in Hollywood. Arguably the biggest action star and one of the leading lights in Hollywood, the actor has given us some truly wonderful projects.

Yet, he remains without an Academy Award. The same has been brought to light by Léa Seydoux, star of James Bond’s Spectre and No Time to Die. Seydoux, while appearing on Konbini, expressed her admiration for Cruise’s diverse talent and lamented his lack of recognition from the Oscars.

It's been a longer wait than usual for fans of Family Guy. The wild Fox animated series wrapped up Season 22 in April 2024, but released a pair of specials in late 2024 on Hulu. The delay appeared to be due to creator Seth McFarlane's busy schedule and Fox wanting to save a big premiere for midseason.

But now we know when Season 23 is coming! As reported by TVLine, Family Guy will return to the Sunday "Animation Domination" lineup on Feb. 16 at 8/7c. This marks the first time in almost 30 years that The Simpsons will not be airing at that time slot on Sundays.

By the time the divine voice of the Singing Goddess Lataji wafts through the soundtrack with the timeless anthem of patriotism ‘Ae mere watan ke logon’, I was sold completely.

In some sequences before that, Sara Ali Khan, playing the semi-widowed wife of an Mia soldier, lovingly watches her little daughter being fed by her husband. It’s a lovely moment of wistful regret.

I craved for more such emotionally plush moments in a film that squanders considerable footage in trying to be the Jalandhar version of Top Gun. Not needed! There is enough edifying heft in the jingoistic cocktail that more than compensates for the amateurish aerobatics.

The revamped lineup kicks off with “Family Guy” at 8 p.m. Et/Pt, marking the show’s 23rd season premiere. The opening episode offers a unique take on the movie “Top Gun,” featuring main character Peter Griffin stepping into Tom Cruise’s Maverick role. The story follows Peter’s adventures alongside wife Lois as Charlie and son Chris as Rooster, bringing a comedic twist to the classic film’s themes.

It all starts on Feb. 16. That day marks the official Season 23 premiere of “Family Guy,” which will celebrate the occasion with a “Top Gun” parody. The episode will chronicle Maverick’s (Peter) relationship with Charlie (Lois) as he copes with the death of Goose (Joe) and a new relationship with his son Rooster (Chris). That episode will premiere at 8 p.m. Et/Pt. Though two “Family Guy” episodes premiered at the end of 2024, they were both holiday specials.

That Feb. 16 premiere will be followed by the Season 2 premiere of “Grimsburg” at 8:30 p.m. Et/Pt, the Season 5 premiere of “The Great North” at 9 p.m.

The Simpsons are being couched for a limited time to make room for the Griffins.

Beginning Sunday, Feb. 16, Family Guy will return for Season 23 and inherit The Simpsons’ 8 pm time slot. It will be followed by the premieres of Grimsburg (Season 2) and The Great North (Season 5), and a new episode of Krapopolis.

Netflix is losing a Top Gun-esque movie starring Jamie Foxx and Jessica Biel. While the streaming service is known for original movies and TV shows including Stranger Things, Orange is the New Black, Wednesday, Carry-On, and Leave the World Behind, their library is also populated with titles that are licensed from other companies. As these licensing agreements expire or change quite often, every month there are usually quite a few titles either joining or leaving Netflix.

The Top Gun-inspired movie that is departing the platform soon is one of these licensed titles, and it is particularly star-studded. Jamie Foxx is a well known multihyphenate who is a stand-up comedian and musician along with being a decorated actor, having won an Oscar for his portrayal of Ray Charles in the 2004 musical biopic Ray. He was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor that same year for his work in Collateral.

Tom Cruise has done it all: dangling off planes, scaling skyscrapers, and riding motorcycles straight into danger. But leave it to Logan director James Mangold to nearly send him to the great action star afterlife during a stunt that looked way too chill to be deadly. No helicopters, no explosions, just one tiny misstep away from disaster.
