German theatrical version was cut by ca. 20 minutes to shorten running time. Only in 2013 the uncut version was released on DVD.

The above version was the only version of the film that was available on VHS for a number of years the original uncut 145 minute version never got a official home video release until the 2012/13 DVD the only VHS copies of the 145 minute version were mostly private home recordings of the TV broadcasts ITV in the UK showed the original 145 minute version in 1982 five years after the 125 minute version was released in UK cinemas Sky Movies also showed the 145 minute version a few times in the 1990s mostly in daytime slots which are examples why VHS copies of the 145 minute version exist
